May 30th and still plugging along.....
Just getting ready to go out for our jaunt... Itís cloudy here today and I may run into some rain but thatís ok. ďJust liquid sunshineĒ.....
Nothing new happening here. I guess itís pretty much like everywhere, just holding our breath and hoping this crisis soon winds down. I am working on making a mask for myself because I feel that I will soon have to start the inevitable shopping for myself again as we slowly get back to things opening up again. My daughter is reopening her daycare on Monday with mixed feelings on doing so. My SNL is going to shift work so that leaves me to venture for myself....I am a wee bit nervous about it but I will be extra cautious.
Well peeps I am heading out now.. Take care and stay safe...
Hugs

Good morning sparkies.

So I still haven't purged the last closet yet. I did however get some things brought down to the lake. The past weekend hubby was off so we had to get the lawn mowed. Our buddy came in and cut up the last of the tree that we dropped last year and packed it in his truck and brought it down to the lake for the firepit. I'm glad to have that gone finally. Make the yard in the back look so much cleaner.
I never realized how much leaves gathered under the other 2 trees that we had cut. (Did I mention we cut all the trees on our property. ...all 16.) I was out there for about 3 hours yesterday trying to clean up from the hostas back to the shed and I'm only about half done. We had 4 wild rose climbers that sprouted up and boy are they hard to get rid of. 5 years ago dad and I spent a full week digging down and tearing up roots. I hate those little suckers. I thought we had them all but this year they came out of nowhere and I guess we had a perfect amount of rain to get them growing. The sun shines there 24/7 so they took off. It took me a long time to get them so hopefully I got them all. Now to get back at the leaves. I bought 1 package of bags but I'm thinking I may need more. I did realize how deep the slope was because the 3 tress were so big I never went over in that area at all. I think we could use some backfill there to fix it... I guess that will happen once we decide what to do with the driveway. There's always something.

On another note, with the nicer weather here I had to dig out my summer clothes and pack away when winter tops. Yesterday was pretty nice out so I started trying to put together an outfit. I knew I had on about 10 lbs since last summer and that equals at least 1 side because all of my clothes are too small. Every last pair of capris, shorts, skorts... Sigh!!! Thankfully I had kept a few pairs that were a bit bigger so I can manage those but sweet love of gawd.... I need more than 2 bottoms to wear to work. I have a few dresses and skirts to wear everyday but not appropriate for work. What a reality check. Not working as much is really is playing a huge roll and getting my diet in check has got to happen right now!! I'm so disappointed in myself.

Well hopefully I will just get my butt in gear and get ahead start on the biggest loser challenge that I joined.

Take care and emoticon

Good morning Sparkers!

This has been one helluva month.

I'm still working from home, and it sounds like management is going to give us the option to work from home permanently, and still provide us with an office space, but it will be a shared one. I really like working from home, it has saved us SOOOOO much money on gas.

Wifey started her work term yesterday. She loves working at an animal hospital, and this one is set up differently than the last one.

I'm up about 8 lbs due to the pandemic. I'm still getting out daily, but my meals are not where they should be. Although chocolate for breakfast is great, it leaves me with a sugar high about a half hour later. I'm working to set myself up for success, though. I boiled 15 eggs yesterday, which are great for snacking or a quick meal. I had bought a huge bag of stir fry veggies, and I separated the bag into smaller ones. I also need to get an apple in me before I make my breakfast shake. The almond milk I'm using for shakes was frozen, and I think it's finally thawed enough that I might get one this morning.

We've also been working on the yard this spring, before the blackflies chewed us up. After the last heavy snow a couple weeks ago, several smaller trees and a couple of big ones bent or broke. The front and back yards were a mess. I raked for nearly 2 weeks, taking breaks to cut off the smaller branches off the trees that Wifey sawed down. Yesterday, I finished the last of the raking, and the last of the twig-collecting out the back. There are 2 logs left that need to be moved, but I can't do them on my own. To move all the leaves to the burning pit, Wifey found that a really large plastic sheet or a tarp trails really well behind the John Deere. Sunday, we moved all the front raking to the burning pit. Now, if it can only rain for about 6 hrs, then stop, we can burn the last of the leaves and twigs. Not sure what we're doing with the logs yet, but I may use them as barter, since there's a really big tree that we cannot cut down -- we really need help on that one.

The mini home is almost done. It's been hard to get to it, but after her nephew "SaucerHead" came up to help, the painting is almost done. SaucerHead has been staying with us off and on for the last 2 weeks, and that has helped a lot. He's very respectful, other than being a lighter-stealer. ;-)

I can't wait for places like thrift stores open again, so I can drop off all the stuff we've been sorting and don't need. The back room is starting to smell like old boxes. YUCK!

Workouts.... I still haven't figured out when/how to do them at home. I have to start, though, or I won't fit into my clothes before the end of summer. It's going to be hot today, so I might just try a video inside.

Miss you all!

JoJo, the Sparking Chick

Good morning ladies. It's another beautiful day here in Halifax. A little cooler than yesterday. I could not believe it was a whooping 29 degrees here yesterday. Today I believe it's going to 18. I'll take it all. I'm ready for rainy season to be gone. As beautiful as spring is its my least favourite season. Too many down days.
So I have one room left to purge and that will get done today. Good will opened back up so I dropped off my last pile Thursday. Glad to have that out of the middle of the living room. Next will be all the linens in the spare room. Our dear friend moved back from Ontario last year and bought a house on the lake. He has 2 spare rooms so he offered a room to hubby and I and our daughter. Last summer we spent every weekend there so we opted to get our own bed for down there. We would just bring our sleeping bags back and forth so this time I will kill 2 birds with one stone as they say. I will purge my linens and brings down what we need to fit out the 2 bedrooms, keep 1 set for each bed here and the rest goes to good will. So excited to get that done. My daughter caught the minimizing bug as well. She is finally at the age where she realizes the more she has the more time it takes to clean. She did a major purge and filled the van with our last run.
So work is changing a bit. The girl that I was covering for is now back to work. So I'm losing 3 stores. I did however find out that I have 2 more of my own for sure and still covering 4 stores for other people. I love " my" stores. I have developed relationships with people who there so I'm very happy. Now this means I can go in and organize the way I want because they are mine ....I'm so excited for that.
So I joined the biggest loser challenge for the summer. I needed something to keep me more accountable so that begins in a few weeks. My Inlaws have their pool opened now as it won't be long before its warmed up enough to go for a dip. Last year her and I did water exercises a lot so I'm hoping to get back at that as well. I haven't been on the scale in 2 weeks. I'm trying to focus less on weightloss and more on changing habits. I will weight on Sunday to see where I am.
Well, hope all is well with everyone. Take care, stay safe and emoticon

Wow, I didnít realize it had been so long since I checked in!! The days all run together. Iíve been doing a lot of overtime for work. Iím hoping that calms down in a couple of weeks, but I think in reality the work stress will just shift to something else and itís going to be crazy for several months.

I find that I have been cooking and baking a lot more because I find it soothing. Iíve stopped losing weight, but Iíve been maintaining and under the circumstances, Iím thrilled with that. Iíve discovered that my sourdough starter makes a fabulous Stromboli. I probably need to stop discovering things like that.

Iíve also discovered that I want to shift my goal weight. I set it when I was at my highest weight / starting point last fall and now that Iím getting near, I think I need to adjust it. So, instead of being 4 pounds away, I think Iím 9 pounds away + 5 pound Ďbufferí. I think that final 14 will take a very long time. I always have a hard time in the summer, so Iíd like to maintain over the next few months and hopefully start losing again in the fall.

My husband has been getting our front veranda and pool ready for summer and discovered that mice had a field day in our shed over the winter and chewed/destroyed all of patio furniture cushions. Itís unbelievable how much havoc they caused. Replacement cushions for patio furniture are the same price as buying the furniture all over again!!

This week we have started getting really warm temperatures in the afternoon, so I have shifted my workouts to morning before work. It definitely is tough to get outside for a run before breakfast, but itís nice to know itís done and over with before it gets too hot. Our subdivision is really hilly and I miss driving into town to park and get on the nice, flat, shaded trails. Iím worried the trails are too busy. Even with relaxed Ďrulesí, Iím doing the physical distancing thing and plan to continue working from home for a long time.

All right, enough sitting around this morning. Time to get this week's bread mixed and rising!

Hope everyone is well...itís nice to read everyoneís check-in!!

Good Thursday morn from BC. The sun is shining here and I think it will be a beautiful day.
Yesterday we were informed here that some of our restrictions will be lifted, one of them being hair salons will be allowed to open. Lord knows I need a good trim and colour but I am not sure how I feel about being that close to someone right now. I think itís too soon. Mixed feelings I guess.
Lori darliní I know what you mean about the addiction thing. If I take one bite of a potato chip I am soooooo done for. The whole bag evaporates. Seriously.... And then I feel two things, disappointment that the bag is empty first of all and then my extreme guilt.... The cola thing, well I lived off of that for years... It is a wonder I have any innards left..... lol....... Youíll find your way girl. I have faith in you....
I have taken adult colouring back up and variety puzzle books. Just trying to stay away from the screens a bit more. The colouring is good for hand control and not to mention, it makes me feel like a kid again....lol.... second childhood? Maybe?
Well peeps I gotta run (walk actually). I canít run anymore. Gotta love those golden years....
Take care, play safe and keep Sparking.....
Hugs......

Good morning my fellow sparkies.

Faith I am so jealous of your will.... Everyday since September 18!?! That's amazing. I can't seem to get motivated to complete a full week. Keep up the great work.

So it's that time of year where I struggle with headaches/migraines. The barometric pressure kills me. I've had more headaches in the past month...drives me crazy!! Such a waste of time cause it puts me out of commission.

So I got on the scale on Sunday and I'm still gaining. And I told hubby he has to stop feeding the inner beast. He keeps bringing home chocolate covered almond bar with sea salt.... And coke. I had put a good dent in my caffeine addiction where I thought I had it, then I gave myself a little treat..... I guess I have to look at it differently ... I'm a caffineaholic... I can't have any!!
I'm hoping to join back up on the biggest loser group and join the summer challenge. Having to work on weightloss in a team setting may work better for me. I'm used to letting myself down. But I'll not let my team down. They rely on me to help win the challenge, plus there are mini challenges within the group so hopefully I can get back on my old team.
I have been doing some 5 km walks and some 15 minute workouts here and there but nothing consistent but looking to change that.
Work is going good. I have all my same stores and 1 additional store so I touched based with them all so even on the days that I work I'm back home by noon so I'm loving that. I've realized that as much as I love this new job the work load is light so I'm not lifting as much as I used to so I notice I'm losing strength and because I only work 10-20 hours my body is not only getting bigger but also getting much weaker. I really got to get a move on and get some strength training in there also. Or pretty soon I'll be in a much worse place, not only physically but mentally.

Well ladies time to get to work. Have a great day and stay safe. emoticon

It's nice to read everyone's recent updates on the other thread! I'm not very good at finding time to come in and reply... but it's good to hear how everyone else is managing!

Happy (very) belated anniversary, Jo! Thanks for the reminder of Scoop and Save. I always forget about them! I don't need yeast, but there have been a few other items that I've had trouble replacing and I bet there's a chance they might have them. We pick up our Superstore online order tonight and I'll be wondering all day what is out of stock and what meals in my plan will have to be changed.

Lori, I hope all is going well and you feel safe being back at work. Hoping that you're not in the stores when many people are around.

My work is very stressful at the moment with deadlines. Deadlines that are much harder to meet when every single person on the team is working in a different location and you can't just talk to people sitting around you when an issue arises. Trying not to stress about it since we can only do what we can do... but that's not easy.

In the "fun topic" category, I started an herb garden this week! I had one years ago and loved having fresh herbs all the time. We'll see how this one goes! My sourdough starter has been thriving, although the bread doesn't have that familiar sour flavour yet, I'm hoping that comes soon. I've also been trying other new bread recipes on weekends. I've always been a big bread baker, but I find I'm branching out these days with more complicated recipes because being home all the time means you can wait for multiple 4-12 hour rises. I will run into a problem soon if I can't get more unbleached flour. I have a huge bag of "normal" flour, but I prefer unbleached for bread.

In Spark news, I've been staying on track with my fitness and food, although some days are much harder than others. I have given myself permission on a few occasions lately to replace my running workouts with a longer walk. I've felt that I mentally needed to do something easier. If I feel like I'm dreading something on a particular day, I'd rather sub an activity that I won't dread so that I'll actually get it done. I have done a walk, run or swim every single day since September 18... I can't break that streak now!

Stay safe everyone!

Hi everyone,

I'm full of puns this week, so that's why I called this thread "May We All Reach Our Goals". LOL

Have a great weekend!
