it's taken me most of the day to find words that make much sense. It's more of a brain freeze than it's the meds. I think I am tired, the daily oral chemo is working, though it makes me feel weaker than I know I am, I am going to pay attention to my body and take tonight and tomorrow and rest... so Monday will come and I will be ready.

I don't care how awful you feel a shower can make the world a much better place! I always feel better after a long hot shower. Takes you from wretched to human in about 20 minutes! Great, too, you have access to a pool for laps at least. I'm sure it will make you feel so much better. Your timeline for treatment sounds very manageable. Hang in there.

I finally got a blog posted last night...
and today was treatment number 2 ... they added a new drug that is a long acting anti anxiety drug so I am feeling good and not really feeling any effects from the treatment today other than TIRED! and a little bit more than sore.. but not intolerable.
I was able to get a good shower in today and have permission to get back in the pool tomorrow to swim laps but no aerobics (jumping around, even in the water). I can do the aerobics class as long as I am treading water, but not bouncing off the bottom of the pool. This will help me improve my lower back strength as well as prevent me from jarring the lower back. So I will be up tomorrow morning and in the pool hopefully able to swim at least a half a mile (18 laps). I will wait until Saturday to try the aerobics class.
I am also allowed to bend over again....where they placed the markers is healing quickly, more quickly than they expected, yah to good food!
Thank you all for your support... and care and concern! It matters a great deal.

LOL! I'd be happy to host a get together, however be forewarned I live in a very small house. It's only 1300 sq feet on a .12 acre lot, and I use every inch of it! If you want to haul it down to Holly Springs, come on down!

Okay, I am sorry, I have tried to write a blog three times in the last two days and each time they would delete before I could post them...
so here is the update.
I will be getting chemo on Mondays and Thursday mornings by way of injections around the tumor, and I am also on an oral chemo that is already sort of kicking my but. Tomorrow will be my second treatment. I should be home by mid morning and will be laying flat for a few hours afterwards and then should be alright. I am just hoping they are going to let me take a shower after tomorrow as I have had a pressure bandage on my back since Tuesday morning.

I agree with your suggestion about Maryellen's house... her New Years Meal sounded so yummy!
And I do at least one pot of chili every week, in the slow cooker, that way I really can't burn it too badly.

LYNNWILK2, are you planning on updates in your blog? If not, I am sure that the Raleigh team would appreciate regular updates, I know you have been on my mind a lot lately!

And yeah... So I propose that the next Raleigh team meet up will be at Maryellen's house for dinner... wow. And I think I am doing well when I manage to make a pot of chili! :)

Oh Maryellen, reading the menu of your dinner has made my mouth water, and I know I am not hungry so it must be the incredible description of the lovely meal.
I am glad you were able to share it with friends, and then spend time on the phone with a old dear friend.

Yes, My treatment and care is all very well managed. I know what to expect, for the most part, and have treatment no 1 down and onto treatment no 2 tomorrow, Mondays and Thursday, this should be the most difficult of all weeks as they have been poking around quite a lot along the boundaries of the tumor which is along the spine in my lower back. The one thing that I am most looking forward in the very near future is working with the physical therapist on modifying my exercise routine to keep myself going and at least maintaining what I have currently accomplished.
That should happen next week at the lastest... I get a series of injections around the tumor and also take oral chemo (which really doesn't seem like it bother me that much other than the side effect of sleep disturbances).

Thank you for the well wishes ... and I will keep you all up to date.

Finally getting around to the computer, and it's time to get my points for what I look at as tomorrow! I had a great day with friends. Last night I was up for the drop, but didn't even do my customary pot banging as I have new neighbors with a young daughter and I didn't want to disturb them. But today was great. I had friends over to play cards and have New Years dinner. I made a SP recipe with broccoli and mushrooms, SP braised leeks, Cheese grits (really good, so I gave it all away before they all left!) and Julia Child's recipe for rack of lamb. Granted the rack of lamb isn't on anyone's diet plan, but it sure was delicious! I made crepes with a low cal cream cheese, Brown Sugar Splenda and sour cream filling, warmed in the oven and topped with sugar free cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple with pecans sprinkled on top for dessert. It was a great dinner!

While we were playing cards I got a call from a dear old friend (we worked together in California back in 1970) who is 87 years old. When I got the house back in order after everyone left I called her back and we talked for a little over an hour! She was like a surrogate mother to me when I was transferred to California from Illinois back in 1970. Her kids were about my age. It was so great to talk to her. A great way to start the New Year...old friends, newer friends, great food and good times. Hopefully signs of things to come in the new year.

I start back to Curves tomorrow after a medical hiatus. I tripped over a suitcase in my kitchen early in December and broke 2 ribs, so I was sidelined from Curves for the past month. I'll be glad to get back on track finally.

Lynnwilk2. Hope your treatment goes without a hitch. Sounds like everybody has a handle on things. Keep us posted on your progress. And Larry, thanks for taking on the team, Hopefully response will improve. Happy New Year to all.

LYNNWILK2 - Will be thinking about you - give a holler if we can do anything to help!! I know that the chemo & everything can be tough but it sounds like you have it under control. :)

Carol - Old? You? Ha! I have tried to keep up with you before! LOL!!

In all seriousness, we didn't stay up very late, either, late just isn't my thing. I am usually in bed by 10 at the latest! Going to bed after I finish tracking my food for the day, in fact.

Larry - So glad you were able to come up with a better way to handle the blues than bingeing. Slow and steady wins the race, after all. Stay strong!!

We "old folks" just went to bed and let the rest of the world celebrate!!!
The New Year comes in whether we stay up to meet it or not. Then we felt up to getting a LOT of work done today. DH undecorated the outside and I did inside, followed by lots of thorough cleaning.

Larry, I am glad that the Yoga worked to pull you through.
The chemo/ the cancer I have done before and because I get checked regularly now, they found one small tumor and have attacked quite aggressively. So it won't be a long stretch of chemo and radiation before they can just remove the remains of the tumor.
I have a good mind-set about it...
I am sorry you had a rough night. Perhaps we singles can plan something for these "trigger" days in the future, here in Raleigh.

LYNNWILK2,
I am sorry to hear you have to deal with the chemo stuff. You have such a great attitude about it. You are an inspiration.
ALL,
I had a bummer New Year. My family is far away and most of my friends were couple friends with my ex-fiancÚ so I, unfortunately, wallowed in mindless self-pity. I didn't binge like I would have before SP. I ate about 100 calories above my goal but I can live with that. This morning I slept in and still felt bummed. I decided to do something about it and tried my first yoga video on SP. It actually helped a lot. I definitely have nothing going on in my life that I should complain about. Things are going well. It is crazy how even when things are good we find something to feel bummed about. Happy New Year SparkRaleigh! I can feel it in my bones. This is our year. 2013 is going to be incredible. emoticon emoticon

Thank Sharon,
I am sure it will.
I have a great team of doctors and this was found very early and by accident so we are already sort of ahead of the game. And attacking aggressively.

Thank you for the well wishes and prayer!

Started the New Year with 2 great friends on a three way call, as we live in different states.
Very attentive to the needs of my body after starting chemo yesterday. It was a bit of a rocky road, but with the conversation with friends it was a great distraction and a nice and easy and relaxing way to bring in the new year.
I actually started the year with a new 3 pound loss. SO YAH!
Today I am making an traditional, modified, new years dinner.
And as for resolutions, my primary focus for the foreseeable future is to eat according to the "chemo diet" and get as much movement in as possible.
When this little hiccup is finished I will reset all my goals and move full steam ahead with my journey!

For me, I spent time with family, most of whom live out of town so it has been really nice to hang out. We haven't done anything really exciting, yesterday we took the kids to Pullen Park, and we all rode the train and the carousel, then yesterday evening we shot off some small fireworks. Oh, and hubby and I took the boys to Toys R Us & then Target to spend some of their Christmas money. That was fun.

For my resolutions, my stated one is no emergency room visits this year. That is quite a goal with two active boys. LOL!!

I also have health goals that start today, not so much because they are New Years resolutions, but more because it is time for me to start on them. You can check out my blog for the details, but the short version is that I am starting out by focusing on tracking my food and starting exercising again.

I usually watch my weight loss 5 pounds at a time, but I am planning on meeting my big goal by first of October. Glad to be started again!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe New Years! What did you do to celebrate? Did you mind your health or throw it out the window for "just one day"? And do you have any resolutions for 2013?
