I think a meeting with a walk sounds good. Maybe even a meeting WHILE walking! Looking forward to meeting some of the locals.

I have been so busy at work I haven't been able to go. I am also coaching 5-6 grade Lacrosse this year so I wont be able to make it until the season is over. I would like to start a Saturday meet up with an optional walk afterward. I will post it on the activities ides thread and see if anyone wants to join in.

I am sorry about the meeting today. I had an emergency at work and couldn't make it. We will try again next week.

Mornings don't work good for me since I am a caregiver. Usually after 2 pm is much better. What ever is decided, I will try to do the best I can. I really would love to meet everyone.

Linda,
Yeah, a lot of people are asking for other times. We started with this time and day based on input on the message boards. We just wanted to get it started and build from there. I was thinking of a weekend meeting. Maybe Saturday mornings around 9am. Does that work better for you? Let me know. How does that time work for others? This would be a second meeting at the same location.
Thanks
Larry

Thanks for sending SparkMail to inform me of this, Larry. It sounds like a nice idea. I wonder if you'd consider possibly moving it around to different times/locations to make it easier for some people. Maybe after a few weeks? It does seem rather an awkward time for some. I can make that time and place, but going home in rush hour doesn't thrill me. I would like to meet some of the local Sparkers. Thanks for all the action you're taking.

It is too soon to tell for me. My mother has been experiencing a lot of pain. Legs and now arms. She can't move and requires 24/ 7. Unfortunately, that is me. I may be taking her to the hospital today to make sure everything is OK with her arm. She pulled it yesterday and she is Osteo. This is very trying on me, it has not been easy caring for her. What makes it worse is when she is crying due to the pain. I will let you know more toward the weekend.
Of coarse, I woke up at 4 am hearing her cries emoticon

Thanks!

I hate to say, but I won't be able to come to the first meeting. It maybe a little too soon for me. I think for me another month would work better. I am still not use to these freezing temps and hate to get out in it with my mother. I also still have so much to do and am still unpacking from move. It has been taking forever since I am also my mother's caregiver.
Please keep me informed.

Thanks,

I am sorry to say, but I will not be able to make this weeks meeting. It is too risky for me to be in a public place with my blood counts being so low.
I will be thinking about you all and missing the event more than you can imagine.
Thank you Larry for taking the time to set all this up and I promise to push for the next meeting.
I hope you all have a great time meeting each other and that a lot gets accomplished.

All right! Tuesday at 4pm it is. We can start next Tuesday Jan. 22. This is the agenda I was thinking about. Please let me know what you think. I am open to input.

5-10 min: Opening/welcome new people
10-15 min: Introductions
20-30 min: Open discussion/lead discussion/guest speaker
10-15 min: Activities discussions

I will bring a calender so we can have people sign up to lead a discussion. The meetings topic will be determined by this person whether it is a discussion time or sharing your experience with Spark People. If no one is signed up to lead we will revert to open discussion. I think it's best to keep it informal. I would also like to invite people in the community to come by and speak to us. I will start this later on when we have a steady attendance. I thought about a weigh in but I would rather not weigh myself in a public place. If everyone would like to have a weigh in we can start it when we have a more private location. I will call Starbucks tomorrow to set aside the room. If it is already taken we will move the meeting to the next week.

Tuesday or Saturday works for me. Wednesday option would not work at all till after my Bible Study Group ends in late March. I'd love it to start soon, as I will be out of town essentially from Jan 24 to Feb 26 with only a few days back here between trips. I'll keep my eyes on this thread to see where we finally settle.

Its looking like we need to just get things started and we can adjust. Here are a couple suggestions:

Wednesdays at 6pm (traffic might be really bad though)
Saturday at 1pm
Tuesday at 4pm (I like this one best)

Let me know what works best. I am working on a meeting agenda as well. I will post an outline for review tomorrow on this thread. I would like to start next week if we can. Even if it's just me for the first meeting. I can catch up on my reading, lol. I can also work from Starbucks.
So post your opinions if you got'em.

I hate to say this right after LYNNWILK2's post, but Mondays and Thursdays are best for me, although I could probably do most Tuesdays as well. Wednesdays and Fridays are right out. I could probably meet any time after 5:00.

As far as how frequently, I don't think that we have ever tried weekly, but we could certainly give it a go... If we are meeting, I will be there as much as I can, regardless.

On what to cover... If we are meeting monthly, social only would be perfect. If we are meeting more often, we might want to consider having maybe a 15 minute talk from a member on something. And really anything that might motivate or inform would be great: snack ideas or other nutritional stuff, exercise ideas for a rainy day, different exercise ideas to try, ways to stay motivated, an affirmation game, there are a ton of things that could be done with only a small amount of preparation. Regardless of frequency, I do think that we should start by going around the group and a short introduction from each member. That would be my opinion, anyway.

at least for a little while longer (hopefully weeks, not a month) Mondays and Thursdays are out of the question for me due to my treatment schedule. I usually work out, when permitted, in the mornings but I live very close to that Starbucks so I could, I suppose make it most any time for a short a time anyway. Perhaps if we scheduled a meeting
some early afternoon or on a weekend and let everyone work their way around it, given the time to plan and organize. (just a suggestion).
Mary Ellen, the travel locations sound fascinating.

Usually the best time for me is anytime 2:30 or after. I am a caregiver for my mother of almost 83 years young and mornings turn into afternoons before I know it.
Any day unless there is a Dr. appointment.

1) If we make it once a week, then those who can't do it weekly can maybe do it occasionally.

2) Since we probably won't all be right on time, probably an hour window would work.

3) Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays are usually OK for me. Just about any time after a Curves workout. Wed. I play cards from about noon to 4pm (lucky me, I'm retired!) Thursday mornings are usually busy. I also travel quite a bit. I have an insane travel schedule for Jan/Feb. with only 5 days between a trip to FL and a 19 day trip to Argentina and Antarctica. The insanity begins on Jan. 24th and ends on Feb. 26th I'm not a coffee drinker but certainly they have something I can have.

4) initially just get to know folks. Maybe find someone in your area to set up an exercise/walking buddy. Go over ideas for fun stuff to do together.

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

Certainly I have a 6-pack. You just can't see it through my soft sided cooler!

OSDOWNS has found us a good central location we can have our meetings. For now we will start meeting at the Starbucks off of Lake Boone Trail. Its free and can hold around 12 people. Plus coffee. :)

I would like some input on a couple things getting this started.

1) How often do we want to meet?
2) How long? 30 mins or 1 hour?
3) What day is best for you? This is a tough one cause everyone has different schedules but I wanted to get an idea on the majority.
3) What would you like to happen in the meeting?

I would like to start meeting in the next couple weeks if we can. Even if everyone cant make it getting started will be important.
