I need to get the information on this. I definitely am now trained for a 5K. Is it a morning run or evening. I am more an early morning runner, when my energy levels are so much better.

Happy Holidays to everyone! I used to live in northern Chatham County until I recently moved to Cary.because my daughter and son-in-law decided to move from the small horse farm where I lived over their garage. Quite a change! And there's still a bunch of stuff that needs moving...

I would welcome someone's starting one of these other types of threads if we think there is interest there. It would be nice to have more daily communication. I think I'll start a "check in" thread and maybe we can get to know each other a bit better.

Hi, All. I live just south of Chapel Hill in Chatham County. Some activities on other teams I belong to are "Question of the Day/Week", word/letter change games, weight/sleep/activity check-ins, "What are you reading", etc.

Peace and Happy Holidays to all of you!

I may be interested in that run. I've never done anything like that before. Also, I think it be great to get something going here in Raleigh.

Good Morning! Wishing everyone a Dry Week End! I woke up to the sound of rain... I guess it is this cold front coming in!! Just waking up and making my coffee. A great day to sleep in.

Big Question!! I am so interested in Running the 1st Rock N Roll Marathon / Half Marathon that Raleigh will be hosting in April 2014. Is there anyone else out there that might be interested in signing up for the Half Marathon?? Since I had been sick for quite sometime I have had a hard time getting back to my running routine and thought this might be a great motivator. I was sick when the temps were hot and now that I am well, the weather has been freezing.

I finally got my Spark Tracker and have been using it. So far I like it. I just had to add in my high impact aerobics- but it asked me what I did for 35 minutes. Other circuit training does not seem to show up- much higher calorie burn than walking steps and weight training. Any advise. Should I not have it on and just manually add it to fitness tracker?

Have a great day! Ready for my coffee..

Sorry, to hear about your dad, Dukefan. I'd like to get something going--at least a meeting to see if anyone is interested in actual activities, but I guess everyone is too frantic right now, with the holidays and all. Just got back from a family cruise myself. My weight has gone crazy (before the cruise, mostly) and I think it's due to the meds I'm now on to control Graves' disease, since I was doing fine before I started them. I'm now extremely hungry most of the time, and nothing seems to satisfy me. And the weight gain still seems disproportionate to what I'm eating. I need to get a handle on this.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I live near Brier Creek, but just over the Durham County line, and get my mail from Morrisville. I work FT in Durham and attend graduate school part-time at North Carolina Central. I'd be interested in some activities once life slows down a bit. (My dad is in rehab after a Halloween night stroke.)

Hope you reach your goal, Sharon! I'm going in the wrong direction right now, with all the thyroid madness. Even though I'm hyper, the meds to calm me down seem to be making me hold onto every ounce! I hope we have a little better weather today. It got nasty last night! I have to get some more of my stuff to my new place, even though I'm staying here on the farm for about another week. Now I don;t know what's here and what's there! Wishing everyone a great day!

It's late and I just got inside from covering my plants. My, am I freezing. Sitting in front of a heater trying to warm up.
I am in N. Raleigh...Been back now for three years. Moved from Tampa Bay area and I miss it. My son is still living down there.
Recouping from Sinus Cold over 1.5 months. I kept up with my Food Tracker and Fitness Minutes. Although my running stopped. I am hoping to get back in gear since I signed up for a race in Sunny Florida Feb 2014. I am also interested in signing up for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon and am hoping some of my Runner Spark Friends from across the country will attend..
I participate with many challenges. It keeps me focused on me. My Life has gone through many changes coming back to Raleigh and now being a caregiver to my elder mother.
Looking forward to the Holiday's. I am hoping to loose 5 lbs. by Thanksgiving. So close to my goal..

Well, I have been very bad about taking care of this team! Things have been so overwhelming, I barely had time to think about it! My thyroid went crazy, I ended up in the hospital (end of August), and at the same time found I would have to move. I live over my daughter's garage north of Apex, and they decided to move to the Preston area of Cary to be near the country club. Yup--country club people! How did that happen??? Not sure which came first, but I believe the stress engendered by this triggered the thyroid thing. I'm on medication to calm things down and am on a much more even emotional keel now. And having a much harder time keeping weight off, of course!

Today, I closed on a 2br/2ba townhouse in Cary from which I can actually walk to Trader Joe's, assuming my arms don't fall off carrying groceries home! I'll look into getting some sort of cart or something. So now that I can breathe, please let me know if you want to get together and have some sort of meeting regarding the direction you want your team to take. I'm open for coffee places, lunch (sorry, I'm an unrepentant foodie!) or a walk in a convenient location. Or several in different places that work for different people. There don't necessarily have to be a lot of people to accomplish something, and I'm well aware that nothing will please everyone. So let me know if meeting is something you actually want, or what direction you'd like to see the team take. I'm thinking of starting a "check in " thread where we can just let everyone know how and what we're doing. All comments are welcome!

Hey. My name is Zul and I just moved to Raleigh from Rocky Mount to go to NC State. I live really close to NC State so, you could say that I'm close to Downtown Raleigh. I used to have another SP account which I have recently closed because I guess I needed the change of scenery. I have currently lost about 60 pounds since July of 2011, all done with counting calories and exercise. I had gotten to 90lbs lost by last October but, I have gained about 30 of them back in the past year and I am currently working on losing those 30 pounds on my own but still using some Sparkpeople resources. Sparkpeople has been great for me and I am so thankful for it. I have lost 2 pounds this past week!

I have recently found that counting calories is too stressful because I count every single thing. Yes, that tsp of butter, I count it. That's too much for me. So, having used Sparkpeople for the past two years, you sort of learn calories like the back of your hand. So, I'm really good at estimating (in a non-biased way) what's in the food that I'm eating. So, for this week, I'm trying something. Food journal and estimating calories in what I eat and writing it on my food journal. As long as I keep to a 1700-1800 goal, I'm ok. For now, that is.

As far as exercise, I am the founder and one of the owners of #10daysoffitness. You can find the website with a simple Google search, if you want. Basically, the idea is 20 mins of exercise for 10 days, then 1 to 3 rest days and start back up again with the next 10 days. I'm telling you, I live by this principle and it keeps me grounded and sane. It just feels great to check off the days off my to do list, honestly. I love it. And 20 minutes is the minimum. I can always do more if I'd like.

That's my story. Probably a lot of information but, it's what I got.

As far as what I expect from this team. I think it would be great to be able to meet up with people around here to do fitness activities. And it would also be really great to find some fitness buddies (I go to Planet Fitness Raleigh if anyone wants to meet up one day) and/or email buddies. I have found in my time with Sparkpeople that having email buddies really helps with the weight loss journey. So, feel free to SP mail me, if you'd like to either have me as a workout buddy, exercise buddy or even if you have any questions regarding #10days.

I hope everyone has a great day. emoticon

Thanks for weighing in. I really like the trail on the museum grounds. Does another trail near you lead to it? I would love to do something like that when the weather cools off. Unfortunately, I sweat way more than anyone I know and don't quite know why...But if there's a place we can meet, like a little cafe or something, to make some plans, I'm all for that anytime!

We live fairly near Crabtree Mall, and the Greenway runs through our property. How wonderful is that? I'm game to try to meet up with other sparklers-Shelley Lake or somewhere on the Greenway biking would work for me. I love the new trail that goes to the Art Museum! DH and I also take the ride to Lassiter Mill and on to North Hills on occasion.

Isn't it amazing that there are over 10,000 of us in Raleigh?

Thanks, Sharon! Yeah, things are a little crazy here. Add to that a strange "illness" that is making me extremely fatigued for no apparent reason, except that it pretty much coincided with starting at the new gym. I really don't think I've been overdoing things, but I am reminded that some of us have constitutions that don't take well to much vigorous exercise, plus I just have to LOOK at exercise to start sweating a truly ridiculous amount. I should be over with the "hot flash" stage by now, but this is more steady than flashy. OK, I've gone a bit off-topic here...

Started a thread under challenges to get on this new back on track bandwagon and I hope lots of us will stop by daily if possible and chronicle our efforts, successes and setbacks.

Just some ideas here that some other teams have been doing.

*Question of the day, a new healthy question each day presented by the team leader.
*Posting Spark Points Daily.
*Favorite Supplement and Why.
*Tips from people on their weight loss journey.
*Sharing a daily journal or a Chit Chat thread.
A thread of just stopping bye to say Hi.. emoticon

WOW! Linda. Sounds like you have a lot going on.

Apologies for not being around here much. Things are a little crazy, what with my having found out I may have to move in the near future. I like it here in the country but convenient to pretty much everywhere, but my DD and SIL are very probably selling the little farm and moving to the--are you ready for this?--country club! So my little home over the garage will be no more. This will not be good for me financially, but I am considering different options. So if anyone in the Raleigh/Cary/Durham area has any ideas, please shoot them my way.

I like the idea of a thread where we take some sort of accountability. Personally, I am not a calories in /calories out person, but we can do that if it works for people. Also keeping track of activities/fitness, perhaps in a way we don't get to track it "officially" might be helpful. I can start a thread like that if anyone thinks it will be helpful. Hopefully, it will be able to pretty much run itself once it gets going. I welcome your thoughts, and if anyone wants to start a challenge, please feel free...Let's do what the team wants to do.

Some ideas? Some of the groups I am on are doing a daily check in with Calories in, Calories out. I like it for accountability. Another one on the 50+ is doing lets loose 13 in 2013 which is a realistic goal. There is a lot of activity on this group, virtual accountability and lots of sharing.
My weight lose is slow since I have not been running. I couldn't keep weight on when running long distance and now it is a struggle to get it off. I still have 17- 20 pounds to loose to get to my desired weight.
Personally I share my workouts on my timeline with Fitness Minutes. I am trying not to look at my weight as a number and just get back to physical activity. Life is different here in the Carolina's compared to the Sunshine State...I use to walk out the door and go running on some beautiful trails along Tampa Bay. Here, the lighting is bad for early morning running and you have to get in the car to get to the greenway's.

Somehow I missed your postings. My son is here visiting from FL for two weeks. If you do plan a gathering soon, please e-mail me. I am not sure why I did not see your posting. Although my mail box has been getting pretty full these days. I certainly would love to meet up.
Right now I am taking my mother to Aquatic Physical Therapy usually Monday and Thursday's.

I am sooo with you on the AC, ME! (Enough initials there?) emoticon I have the unfortunate problem of sweating like crazy for no apparent reason. Is fall coming soon??? If any of you others are up for a coffee shop or something, let me know and we'll see if we can find something that works for everyone, especially Sharon's restrictions. Meanwhile, I'll research SP for challenge stuff if we need something formal. We could just do something to keep us accountable by posting our activities. I'm excited to see if we can make good things happen!

From the sounds of it, Sharon has the most restrictive schedule with her Mom and her needs. Maybe we need to work around her availability and at least get together at a coffee shop or something (I'm thinking of the heat and humidity right now. A/C sounds wonderful!) Carol, are you in town any time soon? I've got repair people and inspections scheduled the next few weeks, and the house hits the MLS on Friday, so things will be a bit crazy here but at least I'll be in town and can probably work around stuff.

Sorry I've been MIA the last few days. I've been doing a lot of birthday celebrating. Hi, ME, wishing you luck in your move. It's very exciting! I know you met with Larry when he took over, I'd welcome any ideas you have. There hasn't been much response here, so I'm wondering if it's even feasible to try to organize anything, however small, in person. Would it be a good idea to start a challenge of some kind? It would be very helpful to know what the team wants.

Hi Sharon, good to hear from you. Maybe we can get a little something going on out your way sometime. I like the idea of walks on trails in different locations if the membership is interested in that.

Wishing everyone a great week!

Hey, Linda!

Thanks for stepping up. Larry had great intentions but with little positive feedback and work commitments, I guess he fell by the wayside. You know I will participate whenever possible, but I'm also in the middle of a move to Garner from Holly Springs, with several trips planed for the next year, so time is not always available.

Hi Linda, I am in N. Raleigh. I guess now they call it Mid-town, very close to N Hills.
I moved back to NC from Tampa Bay, Florida to care for my elder mother so my time out is very restrictive. I would love to see the Raleigh team become more active, whether in person or on-line.
I am unable to get out to the local spas/clubs etc so most of my fitness is at home or at Shelley Lake.

Thanks for being our team leader.

Hi Carol! Nice to "meet" you! Hopefully we can meet in person sometime.

I'm a member of this team but not in town much of the time. I live north of Raleigh but when we used to have outings in parks around the city I was willing to go. It was so nice to get to know some Spark Friends in person. Will support whenever possible.

Well, in a moment of (probable) insanity, I volunteered to give leading this team a try. I live north of Apex near Jordan Lake, so am not all that Raleigh-centric. I was wondering for how many people this might be the case, and whether we should broaden the focus a bit. I'd love to hear where everyone's from and what they expect of an active team. Do you want meetings every few weeks? Do they need to involve physical activity? Do we need a planning meeting for those interested in taking an active role?

Personally, I tend toward some alternative views and have Paleo/lower-carb leanings because that's what tends to work best for me. We are all different, and I will in no way impose my views on others, although I may at times make them known. We are here to support each other, and I hope we can do a good job of that. Let the games begin!
