I'm really late today since DH and I did a lot of running around. We were gone all morning until 1:30, then I moved quickly to get fresh fruit salad made for son's family (and another for us) as I was sending dinner to them. Bought rotisserie chicken at Sam's and planned meal around that. DIL added baked potatoes to my baked corn and coleslaw. Fruit salad was beautiful with fresh pineapple (I cut two large ones this PM), strawberries, green grapes, blackberries and red raspberries. OOPS! I forgot the blueberries! I do spend a lot of time in the kitchen but I try to help as much as possible.
Son returned dishes after dinner and on tray was a new GPS. I told him ours still works fine, but he thought we should have a new one with lifetime maps. How much longer does he think we will be driving?
Maybe we will start flying, but not to the exotic places where Mary Ellen goes. My nephew, wife, 2 yr. old and her Chinese nanny are in Thailand for 9 days. They have a penthouse with that swimming pool that looks like you are going out into the ocean. I've only seen photos of the such.
And we leave for FL on the 11th. Not as exciting as others travels, but makes us happy!
Good Night, All

Hi MaryEllen, I hope that foot starts cooperating. I am so sorry to hear. Sending you Healing thoughts and Karma your Way. I am not sure what is wrong with your foot but hope you get answers. I use to have to wrap my feet and also get some real good cushion shoes.
Would soaking your feet in Epson Salt help?

Maybe more time on your bike and I love Coach Nichole's Work Outs. My mother and I have been quite busy but we will be trying out those sit down chair exercise again.

Less than 1 month for your wonderful travels. I certainly am looking forward in hearing all about it and seeing pictures.

I have not been to the new art museum. Enjoy your time. Maybe when my son arrives, we can have a chance to go.

Take care and have a great evening! See you in the morning on the October thread!

Good Evening Team Raleigh!

Looks like I may be the final poster to the Sept. Chat Thread. It's hard to believe that we are heading into October already! This afternoon sure turned out nice. It was a bit too dreary for me this morning.

I went for a bone scar this morning. I used to be 5'8 1/2" tall. I am down to 5'7" as of today. It had been 5 years since my last scan. The Tech commented that most folks who come in are shorter and heavier than they were last visit. I was the same weight though shorter. She thought I would be happy that I had maintained the weight for 5 years. Well, since I had dropped 20 pounds in the meantime and was now back to the original weight was not a pleasant revelation. My dream of walking the neighborhood every day was derailed when my foot started acting up. The old adage that the road to hell is paved with good intentions certainly applies here. I really need to get serious about reigning in my eating. I track and everything (well, almost everything!) but I apparently need to lower my calorie range. And with all the stretching I do for the foot, I really don't get in any really effective cardio. I need to get that bike going more now that the weather has calmed down.

I stopped at BJ's today for my former neighbor. She has decided to try (again) to quit smoking. She asked me to get her the patches. I hope she is successful this time. She can ill afford the cigs. Even though the patches are pretty expensive, they are way less than the cartons of smokes she ends up buying.

Less than a month till I leave for my big trip to Easter Island and the Chilean Fjords. The PT on the foot was supposed to help get rid of the pain so I could do the hiking that is planned. Today my foot was the worst it's been in a long time. I think the next time I see the Dr. he will give me another shot. And then I need to just cool it and not, like I did last time, think it felt so good that I could start my daily walks again. That walk around the neighborhood completely negated the shot and I limped all the way home. I will be having a friend here from New Mexico, the week before I leave. We planned on going to the Fair that Tuesday, but I know I will walk a ton while there so we have shelved that plan. I'm thinking it's going to be a movie week, where I can just sit and let the shot take effect. I am good at sitting!!!

Tomorrow is my usual busy Wednesday. Thursday I am going with 3 neighbors to Iris at the NC Art Museum, for lunch. I've not met one of the ladies and I hear she is a wonderful person. They lost a daughter and she wrote a book about it. One of the other ladies was a social worker who used to recommend the book to hurting parents and now she is living down the street from the author! It should be an interesting afternoon.

Sleep well teammates. Tomorrow is another day.

Good Morning Team! Happy Super Tuesday!

I overslept this morning so I am just enjoying my coffee with the doors open.

I have planned a short Run of 4 miles. Hopefully the top of my left foot will feel better. Sunday my shoe bruised it and it is very sensitive. I may end up wrapping my foot to keep the pressure off it. Right now have an ice wrap on it.

Yes Sarah, I hope it will be a better day. My thoughts and prayers to the HS Kids who were involved in that car accident and the families.

We are at a close of the month of September and already I am planning my goals for October.

Carol, when do you head down to FL? I will miss you. I hope you will continue to check in on us and let us know about all the fun you are having down there. I really miss living in the Sunshine State and most of all my Friends.

Wishing you all a Wonderful Day! Keep on Sparking!!

So sorry about this! Our DGD goes to school in WF. I did hear there was an accident involving school kids from WF but didn't know of fatality. Hear fatality was Heritage student.
Yesterday I heard that auto accidents cause the greatest number of deaths in teens. That makes three in just over a week in this area, at least I know of three.
I definitely will pray for all involved.
Today's news is full of deaths of young people.

How awful! I was at PT and haven't heard the news. Prayers going out to all involved, especially for the family of the lost teen. That is always so sad. A young life snuffed out. So much potential lost.

Morning everyone! I don't know if you are a praying person, but if you are a friend of mine could sure use yours. This morning there was a three car accident on Capital Blvd near Wake Forest. In one of the cars were 4 high school students. One of them was killed. My friend has suffered a broken pelvis. I am not sure what the status of the other students in the car or the passengers in the other cars is. Please pray for them.

Thank you.

Good Morning Team! The beginning of a new week and the last of the month of September. Reflecting on goals accomplished and thinking of new goals for October.

I plan of working out with a Cardio DVD and then Chest Back, Hips Thighs Buns and Abs. I am playing a little catch up from a missed routine. It is raining outside and still very dark.

I will be taking my mother for her gym class at Aquatic Physical Therapy later in the afternoon.

We had a wonderful time this past weekend, celebrating Emma Grace's 1st Birthday on Sat. and I ran 9.5 miles yesterday and walked 4 miles around lake with SIS.

Wishing al a Great Day and Week!

Well, I rode around the neighborhood for a bit today. Only my second time out on the bike. The first time I didn't even attempt to change gears! I was just concentrating on keeping upright! Anyway, today I figured out that I didn't like the position of the brakes in relation to the grips and that the basket I purchased that holds my ID and phone (to call 911 when I crash!!) was not attached properly. Fortunately my ex was very handy and I observed a lot of his repair projects, so I whipped out my collection of Allen Wrenches and proceeded to move things around. I needed to punch more holes in the straps holding the basket. I didn't have any leather working tools, but then I remembered my awl. That worked just fine and after another tweak to the brakes I think I am in business. And the weather was perfect for a short ride. I was really amazed at how my body responded to that little bit of exertion. I am really out of shape after my long hiatus of non walking. I really NEED to get out there on a regular basis. I have to ask the original owner who gave me the bike about a few questions about the gears. I was surprised at the steepness of the inclines here in the village. They are a lot steeper than they look from a car! That combined with my out of shape body made for a pretty strenuous afternoon. Glad I got out there though.

Just got back from Mass and our weekly visit to Toot N Tell. Next week will be different as the Bishop will be at our usual 10am service and it is sure to be packed to the rafters. The Church is usually standing room only anyway at the 10 am service, so I think I will go either Saturday evening or to the 8am Mass next week. The Village pot luck is Saturday so I'm thinking it will be an early Mass next week. Not looking forward to setting the alarm for a few hours earlier, but I guess that's my only choice.

I've got nothing planned for today but the Bible Study lesson for Wednesday. I hope that doesn't give me too much time to "wander" in the kitchen. Maybe I'll get in a bike ride! That's a good idea!

I am getting new neighbors across the street, so last night I made 2/3 ingredient brownies. You take 4 eggs and beat them for about 8 minutes, then add 1 cup of warmed up Nutella and mix in a cup of optional chopped nuts. Bake in a parchment lined 8" sq. pan for 25 minutes at 350F. I wanted to try it, and thought I'd make it for the new folks. Well, they are OK, but certainly not as good as my regular brownie recipe. I'm sure they will enjoy them, but unless those are the only ingredients I have on hand, I won't be making them again. I'll drop them off today and I"m sure they will enjoy them. Off loading and unpacking boxes is a thankless job and I'm sure a little sugar will help the situation! I just looked to see if Nutella is GF, as if it is, it would be a nice recipe for those with issues with Gluten. The jar doesn't say it is GF, but I don't see anything in the ingredients that waves a Gluten flag at me. It just might work for you folks.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Happy Sunday to all!
Another gorgeous day and we had better enjoy it as tomorrow may be back to gloom.
Will take another walk and look forward to family returning from Clemson. They surely had great weather for a trip and an exciting football game.

I hope to get out for a run around 8 am. It is so dark now, these early morning runs are now an hour later for me.
Later, after Church Shows, I hope to meet SIS for a Walk around the Lake.

A perfect day in my opinion! Got Collin to take a walk with me since he spends too much time on electronic toys. Now I'm going to ride bike and watch the Clemson/UNC game.
Mary Ellen, everyday on your calendar must be filled! Ours will be like that when we get to FL and there is always food involved. And I love to hear the NC Symphony, too. Our grandson played Bass with the Jr Symphony and members of the senior group played a big role in that. I really wanted to hear Josh Groban when he was with the symphony last month, but it was at night and DH doesn't like to drive, especially to strange places after dark.
Have a great Sunday, everyone!!!

HI Team!

I agree, it is one glorious day today! Fonville Morrisey, the realtors here in the Village had a client appreciation day today at the park. They had BBQ, Hot Dogs, Ham and Sausage Biscuits and tons of other food. Everyone in attendance got to take home a Mum or a pumpkin. Of course in addition to all the folks from the Village there were tons of folks who had dealt with FM for their real estate sales. They had music, face painting and bounce houses for the kids. It was quite enjoyable. I'm glad I went.

Last night a neighbor and I went to the NC Symphony for their West Side Story presentation. I had forgotten what a great movie that was. They digitalized it and electronically took out the music so Grant Llewellyn and the orchestra provided the music. What an excellent performance! If you can still get tickets for tonight I recommend it. We paid $30.00 for Seniors and were in the lower balcony. They might even be cheaper the night of the performance. Check it out for a great evening.

Hi Sarah! Sometimes it is hard to get motivated. I have found that if I push myself out the door to go for a short walk around the block, I end up doing more and feeling good. Here's a big push for you!!
But remember, Gardening is also a great workout!

Enjoy Your Day!

Good Morning Team! Happy Saturday!

It is Beautiful Outside! I have the doors open and listening to Nature.

I hope to get a Cardio Workout in and then some Hips Thighs Buns and Abs. I wish I could get out and run but I will be driving to Wilson early afternoon for my nieces little girls 1st Birthday Party. Sounds like all the relatives are invited since it will be held at a church. This is my mothers great granddaughter. Something special for mom.

Wishing all a Wonderful Day!

Interesting blogs from our Raleigh Team! OMG! The sun is shining and the temp is up to 73!
Family left and hour ago for Clemson and I baked all morning to send good things to grandson. In 45 minutes I go for Collin as he gets off school bus. He and I and the 3 dogs will man the fort!
Mary Ellen, I almost always swish a streak of vanilla yogurt over fruit salad, even for breakfast. Our son who does some catering goes one step further and takes potato peeler to shave some chocolate over yogurt. People love that.
I bought blackberries at Aldi's earlier in week and paid $1.79 or maybe $1.99, but kids love them. I'll get more if on sale. Thanks.
Better get busy as I want to take leaves out of table and make it round. Talk later.

Good Morning Team! TGIF!

I am really moving slow this morning. I did not want to get out of bed.
I am enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee and have the doors open.
Seems to be very quiet outside, don't even hear the birds singing this morning.

So far I have kept the few pounds off that I lost while training for my Half Marathon.
I am not changing my ticker until the 1st of the month and will take measurements then too.
This has been a long road for me, almost two years that I jumped back on the wagon with The Spark People. I was at 111 lbs. after surgery and following the Spark the first time. A little below goal and then when my husband came up from FL to join me, I was working 10 hours with a stressful job I gained up to 161 within 6-9 months. My husband was cooking the meals then and he loves pasta.. I can't eat pasta because of a wheat/ gluten sensitivity. I blew up like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Last year in Nov. I got down to 129 lbs. and then gave in to the holidays and gained about 10 lbs. I learned my lesson and will not do that again this year. Took almost a year to get rid of those extra pounds.

Getting close to goal and then the real challenge begins, of maintenance.

Sorry to ramble on.. Just my morning thoughts over coffee!! I really need to start blogging again.

My mother and I are having our hair done at noon! Long over due. Saturday my nieces little girl, Emma Grace will have her 1st Birthday Party. So no running until Sunday!!

Wishing all a great day and weekend!

MaryEllen, Your Fruit Salad and Quiche sound so good. Such a great idea to store ginger in the freezer too.

I just finished dinner not too long ago. I found Mahi Mahi on sale at Harris Teeter. This is one of my favorite types of fish. I bought enough for two meals but may go back for some more. I would love to have while my son is here visiting from FL in a couple of weeks.

Have a Great Evening!

Hi Carol,

The syrup called for fresh ginger. I usually have some in the freezer and I didn't check before I went to the store, just assuming I had some there, but I couldn't find it. It's easy to lose so I always keep it in the same place on the door. Alas, I had none so I used a bit of ground. But the freezing part is wonderful. I usually peel it first and then I grate whatever I need when it is still frozen and put the rest back in the freezer. The syrup called for equal amounts of sugar and water. Boil it for about 3 minutes and let cool. It called for the mint to be chopped and cooked with the syrup. I had read somewhere not to cook the mint as it gets a vegetable like flavor, so I just did the ginger as it cooked and added the mint leaves and let it stand for about 10 minutes before I strained it. I used 3 gravy ladles added to the fruit salad. The fruits I used were Cantaloupe, Blackberries (special at Aldi's), red grapes, a can of Mandarin oranges, sliced bananas (I put them in the juice from the oranges after I cut them) and about a handful of coconut. I thought I'd add some of my frozen blueberries, which I will probably add tomorrow. The syrup just added a nice subtle flavor. The recipe I used called for using it on Watermelon. I don't have any, but I understand the syrup keeps for at least a month in the fridge so I may get one and try it on that. I bet it would be good if I added some vanilla yogurt to the fruit salad, too! That might make it over the top!

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

Your blogs are always good, Mary Ellen.
I think your quiche will be fine. I make the same using Bisquick. DH is not a fan of pie crust and I even make his pumpkin pie using Bisquick because it forms such a thin crust. Like the sound of your simple syrup. Do you use fresh ginger? Heard the other day that you could stick it in the freezer since you don't use it often. I will try that.
I agree with you on not wanting to travel to many parts of the world. Just scary.
Have a good visit with friend!

Mary Ellen is still here, just not posting lately. Shame on me! I've been pretty busy, but that is no excuse not to at least check in. I did do that turn around trip to VA for my friend's 80th B-day party. She is a travel buddy and two days after her party she was leaving for a 3 week trip to Africa. It's a trip I did a few years ago and it is wonderful! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Fortunately it is in the southern area of Africa, Nowhere near the Ebola outbreaks. Between the crazy Muslims and the rampant illness, it's hard to fine anyplace that you aren't taking a big risk to travel to. My next two trips are to South America, and I think they are still pretty non eventful, but after those are done, I think I will be staying put till the world settles itself down!

A friend from American Airlines bowls with the Aunt of my next door neighbor. We'd lost touch with each other but she is coming to breakfast tomorrow! Turns out now that I am in Garner, she is only about 3 miles from me! She may even try to get on my Galapagos trip in March! That would be fun. There was only space for 1 single person when I called them the other day. I hope when she finally makes up her mind it will be there for her.

I am doing a Mushroom spinach quiche form the SP recipe file for the breakfast tomorrow. It calls for a pie crust but I don't want to use those calories. SP had another spinach quiche recipe that is crust-less and very good. It calls for adding 1/2 cup of flour and a tsp. of baking powder and it makes a kind of crust all by itself. I'm planning on doing that to this one and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it turns out as well as the other one. I also made a fruit salad. I made a simple syrup with ginger and mint and used a few Tbs. of that for the fruit. Tastes pretty darn good!

Hopefully the weather will warm up for the weekend. It was like God looked at the calendar and realized that Tuesday was the first day of Autumn, and he flipped the switch and turned off the heat! I HATE the cold! That is about the only thing I miss about Southern California, but weather makes up for only so much! I'm very glad to be here in NC. I arrived 15 years ago on the 18th. I went from an earthquake early in the morning I was to leave and arrived to the middle of Hurricane Floyd. Made me wonder if God was trying to tell me something!

Sounds like many of us (certainly not me!) will be running a few races this fall. With my knee replacement and now the problem heel, that is just not in my radar. I will sit on the sidelines and cheer ya all on! On my way home from VA Sunday I took 95 and drove through Nash County. I had no idea that NC had a Nashville as well! Sorry I didn't wave to Bobbie on my way through! Are we still working on a Shelly Lake meet up? I am about a half hour from there. I've been there before and it's a nice walking trail. I hope we can all come together one of these days.

Well, it was gloomy part of the day, but actually lightened a bit and got warmer. Slacks and sweatshirt became too warm by late afternoon. Hope the week-end is good as 4 from our family are going to Clemson-North Carolina game played at Clemson. Our grandson is freshman cheerleader for Clemson and Mom and Dad, Sister and Grandpa are anxious to see him in action.
Younger brother and Grandma are staying home. Need to figure out what we can do for activity.
Collin is on year-round school and finishes up tomorrow for 3 weeks break.
You gals are really into running and I think that is great. Our daughter and her son joined friends for Color Run a month or so ago, some ran and some walked, but all had fun.
Where is Mary Ellen? Miss her posts lately. Bet she is off on a trip again!
Hope everyone had a good Thursday!

Good Morning Team! I was hoping I was wrong, but woke to the sound of rain. emoticon
It is very dark and still raining. Oh well, must go to plan B. Today was to be a run day emoticon , 5-6 miles, so instead I am going to try out that running You-Tube. But I always start with Cardio Blast for my warm up. I love working out with Bodies in Motion, Gilad and always have since my son was born almost 25 years ago, before going out for my run.

I saw the Color Run. It looks like that is at the RTP and in the evening. I will check it out again. I love my mornings for running and racing- more energy and easier for me as a caregiver. Mom is usually still in bed when I am finishing up. I saw another at Walnut Creek, I am still newish here and have no idea where that is. I also saw 8k Octoberfest, that looked fun but is also DT. I would like to do another emoticon and then some emoticon and emoticon to keep me going and motivated me when cooler temps arrive, I don't go into hibernation. You know what would be fun is to find a Turkey Trot and Jingle Bell Run, to maybe get together at...

Carol, I am with you. This is yucky weather. I hope it moves on out of here. I heard in my area of Tampa Bay they went through the same thing but now are enjoying slightly cooler temps.

Thinking of Mary Ellen. I miss you. Sounds like she has so many exiting adventures coming up!!

Wishing all a Wonderful Day!

Good Morning!

A color run sounds like so much fun. I actually found a color your Color your Feather Turkey Trot right down the road from me in November. I am really excited about that.

Sharon, I am only about 45 minutes from Raleigh, as well as, Greenville, Smithfield and Goldsboro. It's not far at all and for 5Ks and 10Ks, I try to keep it within a hour drive.I am in Nashville, about 10 minutes west of Rocky Mount. I am running a 10K in Greenville in November. Actually, I downloaded the Eventbrite app on my phone and I was searching through it last night and I found two addition 5Ks within 5-10 minutes from my house. I am really getting excited. I used to do races all the time, but I only did one in 2013 and I have only done 2 so far this year. But it is going to change, I actually have 4 coming up. One in October and 3 in November.

I used to suffer from SAD, but when I started running (I started running outdoors back in MI in January) being outside for that 30-60 minutes a day really helped. I have heard wonderful things about the lights though, never bought one myself.

This morning my hammies still feel great but my calves are another story. The Jogging video made them really tight and the cool down doesn't have enough stretching and I didn't stretch on my own afterwards. Once I get moving around I am sure they will loosen up some, but just to be sure I am going to do some yoga before I head out for my run to get them lengthened back out.

I have a 5 mile run this morning but I haven't decided what route I want to run.Not sure if I want to tackle three big hills or lots of little ones yet.

I hope everyone enjoys their day.
Bobbie

Hi! Bobbie and Carol!

Yes, It really has been a dreary day. Raining here all day too. I always told my friends that I suffer from S.A.D.
I need my Sunshine!! I even bought a happy light because my mothers house is so dark.

In FL my house was very open and the whole back had lots of windows open to the Lanai and pool.
I still have not tried out that You-tube running. Tomorrow is a planned run day, weather permitting, but if it is bad in the morning I am going to do it.

Bobbie, what run area you thinking of doing? I am searching for another Half and saw City of Oaks, November 5th. I am not sure how far you are from DT Raleigh, but sounds like a great one.

Got to go! You all have a wonderful evening.

It hasn't stopped raining all day and it doesn't help my hormone induced crying sessions. Not that I am sad or anything today, just the emotional outburst that come with the territory. I was watching TV with my BF when he got home from work and I just started to cry, he asked me why I was crying and I told him I didn't know. Try to make me feel better he asked if it was because he ate the last cookie? At that point I just started laughing, he things I'm a little unhinged today emoticon

I did my jogging at home video again and made it through the whole 40 minutes, it kicked my butt again. It is harder than running outside. When I run outside I find that happy pace where my heart rate is elevated but breathing has picked up but I can still sing a line or two if need be. But this video left me exhausted. Also it killed the my calves, they are still sore.

I found a 10K that I was interested in running in November and I sweet talked my BF to agree to drive me. I hate driving in cities I am unfamiliar with. I even told him he didn't have to stay and wait for me if he didn't want to I would call him when I was done. I don't expect him to wait around for me for a hour, he doesn't do well in crowds either.

I checked the weather for tomorrow, it looks like it will be dry, but cool and breezy. Which is fine by me, I have a 5 mile run for tomorrow. Once I get back, I see hot cocoa, fuzzy socks and my book in my future, and if I am really luck, a nap. Who am I kidding, I have to be down with the flu before my body will let me slow down enough for a nap.

I guess I have killed enough time, it's 7pm, time for my guilty pleasure, The Big Bang Theory.

Enjoy the rest of your evening emoticon

I like Fall, but not this cold and rainy weather! Had to wear heavy winter robe this morning and now wearing slacks and sweatshirt and still freezing. Did turn on electric fireplace in Great Room but am not out there all the time. But the humidity in FL has been 93% and I wouldn't like that either. OH and PA had 70 and sunny today. Guess I'll head north!
Thought I would ride recumbent bike and watch TV but it was raining so hard the satellite wouldn't bring in the TV. Oh, well, I did get some important paperwork done.
Talk later!

Good Morning Team! Happy Sparking Wednesday!

We got some good rain last night and early this morning. Nice sleeping weather. emoticon
I just woke up and it is so dark and dreary outside. Enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee and reading my Spark Friends Posts and Blogs!

It is a free Wednesday for my mother and I. If it clears up later, my SIS and I plan to meet at Shelley Lake after 2:30. I try to keep Wed. and Fri. open since my SIS is off those days.

I am getting back on my workout routine, running three days a week and Cardio/ Weight training three days a week. emoticon Today I will do Express Cardio to elevate my heart rate and work on some weight training.

Fall is in the air. I do love this time of year! emoticon

Wishing you all a Happy Sparking Day!

Did you all know Betsy (BKNOCK) has been in the hospital 4 days following very serious surgery? I'm sure she would appreciate hearing from all of us.

Good Morning Team! Oh What a Beautiful Morning it is!!
It is going to be a Super Day! Tuesdays are my Super Tuesday Run Day!

I woke at 6 am, starting to get back to normal again after Race Day!. It sure is dark outside.
A Spark Friend/ FB of mine had a biking accident over a month ago and ended up with a concussion, Jerome. My FB Friends and I are going out to do a 1 mile run in his name this morning. I hope to go at least 4 miles but am moving a little slow and it is so dark outside. Realistically, I think I better make it at 8 am.

Sarah was going to work on trying to get us all together. That would really be fun especially before Carol goes to FL. Weekends 2pm would be great for me. I am 15 minute driving time from Shelley Lake. The week days I leave Wed and Friday's open but it seems we have many doctor appointments through the end of the year.

Got to go get this Body in Motion now so I can get out the door!

Wishing all a Great Day!

Such interesting posts from everyone!
Isn't it wonderful to have such lovely Fall weather? I did a little more cleaning on outside of sliding doors on deck and hope to finish that job tomorrow.
It is also great sleeping weather and I don't like the fact I am sleeping at least 9 hours. I never in my life did that!
Bobbie, so nice you had wonderful dinner cooked for you! My DH does not cook but is very good at doing dishes and cleaning up kitchen. Son next door is good about both cooking and cleaning up. Glad you got to "see" your daughter and do hope she is home in December.
Sarah, your nerves have to be on edge with getting so little sleep. Sure hope that situation improves.
Sharon, thanks for keeping our team social. Have we ever determined where we could meet?
Enjoy this weather, teammates!!!

Good Morning, I am finally back to sleeping, the bad thing is I can't seem to get up when my alarm goes off. I'm thinking I will let my body decide my new schedule on its own.

I'm still side lined one more day from my running. Hamstrings are still very tight and bending over is a bit uncomfortable yet. I should have taken four days to rest after it happened instead of running the following day and a fitness class on Saturday that left me on the floor crying.

I did find a Walk at Home 3 mile video that I did yesterday, I was just sure not to exaggerate any of the movements just kept with the pace and managed to get a good sweat going. This morning I am going to do the 5 mile one I found.

WILLITWORK my BF brought me home some grapes he told me I just had to try, I am not sure if they were muscadines, but they were the most delicious things I have ever eaten, they tasted like wine. They had a tougher skin and very seedy but oh my they were delicious.

Sharon, it is very cool you get to see your son in a couple of weeks.

I can't believe I forgot about this, it was a good thing that I got hurt so I couldn't run on Saturday. My youngest daughter sent me a message Friday morning on FB wanting to Skype but I missed it, it would have been our only time to Skype, it had been over 6 weeks. But she was able to pick up a shore leave duty, which allowed her time to sit in a Cinnabon and use their Wi-Fi. If I wouldn't pulled my hamstring that bad in class I would have been running and missed her again, everything happens for a reason. She has been deployed for 6 months now, she should be coming home in December as long as it doesn't get extended again.

I have a lot to get done today, my kitchen is destroyed, my BF decided to make me dinner last night, I don't know what he does in there but it looks like an atomic bomb went off. Dinner was awesome, poached salmon and parmesan roasted squash, I can't really complain, he tried to help.

I should get motivated, things won't clean themselves.

Have a great day emoticon

Good morning Team! Happy 1st Day of Fall! emoticon

I am just waking up and it sure felt good to sleep late. Sarah, sending some emoticon Sleep Karma your way! I hope working out helps your mood, I know it does for me.
I opened the doors to let some nice cool air come in.. WOW, did it pour last night.
I think after my coffee I may work on a Cardio Classic DVD workout. After lunch, my mother has a RA Doctor appointment.
My son will be visiting from FL in a couple of weeks so I need to start cleaning and getting ready for him.

I am so ready for Fall like Temps. emoticon
Wishing you all a Great Day and Week ahead!

Morning everyone. Man am I grumpy today. I've been snapping at my oldest son all morning. I have got to snap out of this. After he leaves for school I intend on going to the gym and exercising to elevate my mood a bit.

Sorry for that. It's what is happening here right now.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Carol, my mother ended up not going. My husband came but missed me crossing the finish line. I came in much sooner than I expected. I did see your post and thanks so much.
WILLITWORK, they have grapes growing? I did not know that.
Carol, MaryEllen, Sarah Linda and Bobbie thank you all so much for your support and cheers. I really appreciated it.

Liked your post, WILLITWORK. I visualized you riding bike and gathering grapes. Not a native here, so guess I don't appreciate the muscadines. You enjoy them in the coming months!

Morning, Raleigh,

I miss you! Seems like I'm gone a bunch caring for aging ladies (mom and aunt) and I wouldn't have it any other way. They have poured life into me and it is a privilege to serve however I can.

I haven't even been on Spark much. I did bring my Spark tracker dongle down here with me but haven't plugged it in yet.

So, did anyone else harvest all the yummy muscadines on the greenway. If you saw that crazy lady on her bike doing the trails between Oak Park and Shelley Lake, picking up the grapes, then yep, that was me. I think I got 9 gallons before I had to fly away-all washed and frozen and waiting to turn into smoothies!

Sharon, thanks so much for keeping us alive. Raleigh is such an amazing place!

Sharon, I did congratulate you, even with emoticons, typed a whole paragraph for you, then got kicked off internet and it wouldn't go through. After kids went to bed I did get back on.
Did your mother get to the end of the race? Even if she didn't, I know she is very proud!

I rode recumbent bike while listening to Joel this morning and as usual he had excellent message. Even though it is Sunday I am doing Fall house cleaning. That dirty red cardinal I blogged about one day is still pestering us and I am wearing rubber gloves and using strong disinfectant to clean windows and frames on sliding glass doors. Some windows are so high there is no way I can reach them. Dirty Bird!!!

Good Morning Team! Another Beautiful Day here in Raleigh, NC.

I am feeling great, the day after my Race 13.1. Massage Envy was at the post race and they gave free massages. Day after no soreness. It is a rest day for me but may get out for a walk later pushing Mom in wheel chair.

Thanks again for all your support! It really means a lot to me!

Wishing all a Wonderful Day! Embrace Your Joy! As one of my Spark Friends would say!

Congrats, Sharon!!! Since I changed my email, I no longer receive notifications when someone posts. I checked it out, and can't figure out why not. Made sure SP stuff goes to my main inbox on Gmail...have to investigate further. But happy Sunday, everyone!

Thank you all for your Best Wishes and Encouragement on my 1st Half Marathon in 4+ years!

I completed it in 2:26:44 and placed 1st in my age group. Will be moving up to the 60-65 group next month. It was a perfect day and most of the Run went through the Greenways in Raleigh and around my favorite park/lake Shelley Lake. This is the first one in NC- Hills and all since moving here from FL.. My last Half was 1/2010 Clearwater, FL.

I am not a runner, but I think this weather is PERFECT for Sharon's run this morning! I know we are all sending her good thoughts for a great run.

My neighbors and I are heading over to Apex later this afternoon for their Oktoberfest-like Festival. Not sure what they are calling it but it involves beer and bands. Sounds like Oktoberfest to me! My good friend Donna and her family live in Apex and I sent her a text to see if they will be there and they are planning on it, so I will get to see them there. Sounds like a great day to me!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Good Morning Team!

I am up and getting ready to go! Actually I woke up at 1:50 am and could not get back to sleep. I think I was worried that I never got a chip for this race? Well, I was getting everything ready and noticed a chip attached to my race number. Now that is cool. Don't have to worry about putting it on the shoes laces and loosing it.

Thanks again for the well wishes. I hope to check back and see how you all are doing.

Have a Wonderful Day!

Thank you all for the Good Wishes for my morning Race.
I think today I am feeling better about it. Yesterday I was getting
pre-race anxiety.
Mary Ellen- I take the NOW Brand which can be found at health food stores.
I only take it at night. It also has some other ingredients, B-3, B-6, Glysine, Taurine and Inositol. I started out with 50 mg while weaning off the sleep aid and gradually added up.
200 mg works great for me after being off all other medications. The only place I have found that with the mg is online,
Carol, I was thinking about you and thinking it was about that time for FL. I wish I could go and live back in Safety Harbor for 6 months and here. That is the life I really would love. The best of both worlds.

Got to go! Wishing all a great evening!

You gals are taking me back 55 years ago when I had my first baby. Always a good sleeper I couldn't figure out why I slept 4 hrs. when in hospital, then wide awake. After several nights of this, I asked my doctor why this was happening. I didn't know that one of my night time pills was a sleeping pill. When it was discontinued, I slept the night through. (they kept us for one full week in hospital back then)
I am not familiar with the 5-HTP but it sounds like something that works.
Can you believe it is Sept. 19 already? Three weeks tomorrow we plan to leave for FL and I am packing little by little.
Will be different this year as we are going in car. Used to pack that pick-up from front to back and that will change. Car is not small, but we do take too much so will cut back.
Gorgeous day once again and Fall will arrive next week.
Good Luck Sharon, with the race.

Good Afternoon everyone!

Well, tomorrow is Sharon's big race! We'll be rooting for 1369 in spirit if not in person! I hope you do well and those pesky back problems are behind you so you can make a good showing.

Yesterday was crazy for me! I got my haircut, went to Verizon with my screen protector to have them install it. Turns out they sent one for the S4, not the S5 and it is too small (took care of that problem this morning. Packer "M" is going to get a smack on the hand for sending me the wrong item!) Then I went to Burger King for a Whopper Jr. and the coupon I used came with fries. I didn't eat all of them but made a good dent in them. Then I went to Aldi's and got some stuff there. After that I went to my old next door neighbor's house for a few hours to kill time so I didn't have to drive back up to Garner only to return later in the evening. I met a friend and we went to an hour's worth of a free concert in Downtown Fuquay and then finished up with dinner at Beef O'Brady's with a group from my old Church. Another coupon for burger and fries! I didn't get home till almost 10pm!

Up early this morning for my 9am PT appointment. Came home and called about the screen protector and then went to the Ladies luncheon for the Village Ladies at the Cleveland Draft House. BBQ Brisket sandwich with fries! Way too many french fries in 2 days! Tomorrow is a down day and then on Sunday, I drive up to Prince George VA for a friend's 80th B-day party. Sure hope French Fries are not on the menu!!

I have been looking at the 5-HTP that Sharon and Bobbie take. What brand do you take? and what is the dosage you use? Some of the info on line is a bit vague. A few caveats about contaminants. I"m not great at taking meds mid day. I do much better morning and night. Though I never miss eating lunch, for whatever reason, I never remember to take a noon time pill. I'm wondering if it would help me if I only did a two times a day thing. It would hopefully control my appetite a little. My friend in NM who doesn't sleep well cannot find it locally there. I'm wondering about brand names ordering on line.

Since I didn't get in any of my stretching this morning before PT, I guess I'd better get going on that now.

I too can vouch for 5-HTP, I took it for a few years, I really need to start taking it again. That was the supplement I started taking when I quit taking all my prescription meds and it helped with so many aspects of my life. I slept better, I was happier and it helped control my compulsive (eating) behaviors.

Good Morning Team! TGIF!

I got a great night sleep last night and am so thankful I did. I am feeling Pre-Race Anxiety. I picked up my Race Packet last night after my mothers Acupuncture Treatment. My race number is 1369. Gosh, those are easy to remember.

I took the day off yesterday and was so bored. Thursday is usually a short run day for me. I am so use to doing at least 30 minutes Cardio too but I am glad I did rest. I think I will do some express Cardio Workouts today and maybe a walk later.

I have four new pairs of running shoes. Lesson learned in Running or Training for a Race:
Have at least two pairs of running shoes. Mine went over the recommended mileage and caused knee, ankle and lower back problems three weeks prior to my race. Yes, it was the shoes cushioning. My Asics Gel Noosa still look new and I will now use them for walking and indoor workouts. I got two more Asics Gel Noosa Tri's and two Brooks Pure Flow. I love the new Brooks because they are so lite and meant for forefront foot running strike, great for racing.

I am already thinking of goals for after racing. One is to start blogging again. I got away from that but I think it is a great way to journal your goals and progress. Also maybe frustrations.

Sarah, I use to take prescription sleep aids, and I would sleep solid for 4 hours and awaken and never got back to sleep. I weaned myself off of them- basically off all prescription meds including Anti-Depression and Anxiety. I feel so much better.. I changed my dietary intake and with added physical activity, found the best Natural Way to improve sleep.
I do take 5- HTP by NOW products. My Holistic Homeopathic Doctor recommended it.

I really do hope you get the needed sleep your body needs.

Got to go! Wishing all a Wonderful Day! Have a Great Weekend!

Hi everyone. I know it has been a while since I posted. Still not sleeping. I was up every day this week at 1:30-2 am. Grr. What is so frustrating is that I take a prescription sleep aid. It helps me get to sleep but not stay asleep.

On another note, it is nice to read everyone's updates. I hope today will be as beautiful as it was yesterday. It is nice to turn off the air conditioning and open the windows.

I hope everyone has a good day. emoticon

Sharon, I will be rooting for you even though I won't be able to get there. DH and son have booked cutting more wood on Saturday and I don't think I want to make the drive by myself. DGD would be glad to go to the mall with me, but she has competition cheerleading most of the day.
What a gorgeous day again today! We were at 58 when I got up today. DH thinks I should go to pool but I just know the water is too cold when the nights are getting rather cold. I'll stick to recumbent bike and do the stairs a few more times.
Where's Sarah? Is she sleeping? LOL
And MARYELLEN we look forward to hearing about your day's events! I know this week was busy for you!

Just wanted to stop by and say hi. Feeling more energetic today but after my run a bit sore. Speed work and hills just don't cut it, it seems like every speed interval had 2-3 hills. And when I started out I had a tight hamstring but by the time I got back home I had pulled both hamstrings. I tried stretching but could barely bend over, so I took 3 Motrin, grabbed my book and soaked in the tub until the water got too cold (8 chapters read). Good news I can bend over and touch my toes with discomfort now instead of pain.

Good Morning Team! What a Beautiful Morning it is! I just opened the doors to let some nice cool air in. I see temps are right at 60 degrees..
This is perfect Running Weather- Looking so forward in my Race on Saturday.
I woke a little later this morning so just enjoying my coffee and listening to Nature.

Today I may do some Abs and Weight Training or even a walk. No more running until the Race unless it is very short like around the block. I was e-mailed my race number- 1369 and package pickup will be today after I take my mother to her Acupuncture Treatment.

Carol, it sounds like you and your family had a wonderful meal last night. And nothing like FL Strawberries.. Yummy! I am still signed up for the BDR Race in Safety Harbor, FL 2/15. I hope there is a way my family can plan on being down there. My former neighbor invited us to stay anytime.

Thinking of you all and Wishing all a Wonderful Day! Keep on Sparking!

Temp today was nearly perfect, but humidity did pick up later in the day.
Son made wonderful meat loaves for dinner tonight so we ate over there. I contributed the Posh Squash as veggie and he had delicious corn on cob along with baked potatoes. I ate 1/2 of each of the latter.
First time I made Velvet Crumb Cake with the GF Bisquick so kids could have it with strawberries I brought from FL, just for them. One pkg. had been overlooked in freezer so I thawed them.
Rode recumbent bike today, went up and down steps numerous times and did some walking.
Also cleaning out the files I take to FL and am gradually getting a few things ready for the winter.
Sharon, your mom is a good sport trying the chair exercises. Three cheers for her! And neat that hubby is taking your mom to race on Saturday.
Hope everyone had a great Wednesday!!!

emoticon Good Morning All! Happy Hump Day!

I actually slept through the night. emoticon If I heard my mother, I was able to get back to sleep. I woke up to the smell of Fresh Brewed Coffee and am enjoying my Cinnamon Spice. emoticon
Today will be a quick Cardio Warm up with my favorite DVD's Bodies in Motion- Gilad Express Cardio and then out the door for no more than a 4 mile run. emoticon I am in tapering mode getting ready and staying rested for the big event on Saturday. I am so excited that my husband will take my mother there at the end to see me cross the Finish Line. emoticon All these years and my husband never went to an event, but with this being so close to home, he thought it would be fun for my mother.. Yeah!
Bobbie, how exciting that you will be able to talk with your daughter using Skyp in the next couple of days. Technology sure has made wonderful advancements and so much better than snail mail. I have not tried that yet with my son in FL. I am so behind and really need to take some classes to learn all about these wonderful techy tools.
Maryellen and Carol, I tried the cord yesterday to hook up my computer to the TV Screen and my mother and I tried one of Coach Nichol's Sit down Cardio Workouts. When we have more time, we will try again. I will need to hit pause a lot to slow it down for her but I think once we get going this will be so good for her.
What happened to the cooler temps? It sure was hot yesterday. I must of missed something on our weather report.
My weight has been bouncing back and forth but it looked like this morning it was at 128.4. My long time goal has been 125 lbs. I just might make it. I have not really been dieting- just removed the white stuff and lots of processed foods.. This is not a diet for me, it is a Lifestyle change. I have been slowly converting to mostly all Organic Veggies, Fruit and Meats. I do follow Gluten Free since I have a sensitivity to most grains, even oatmeal?

Sarah, I also hope you have been getting your sleep.

Wishing all a Great Day!

Good evening ladies,

It was definitely a day for sleeping in, I woke up and 8:50 and I usually try to head out the door by 9 for my run, it wasn't going to happen. I needed coffee and breakfast and with the cooler temps the past couple of days, I really wasn't in that big of a hurry. I should have been though. I really love the heat and humidity down here, when I don't have to run in it.

Didn't really get much accomplished like I wanted to, trying to get my routine back on track has been more of a challenge than I had expected. I did manage to fall asleep around 11 but only slept a hour before I woke back up, then laid there trying to fall back to sleep, I think I did around 5 because I remember hearing the shower but nothing after that. So between my run and not getting a good night's sleep, I was pretty tired most of the day. I am forcing myself to stay awake until 10.

The highlight of my day was getting an email from my daughter Noelle, who is in the Navy and currently deployed in the Arabian Gulf, telling me that she will be in port in a couple of days so I can look forward to a Skype date with her. It has been over a month since the last time she was in port. I really love the new advances in technology. I remember when my brother was deployed we had to wait for letters and often waiting weeks to hear anything. My daughter and I try to email each other several times a weeks as long as communication isn't being restricted, but it is always nice to see her beautiful face, but we can only Skype when she is in port, I think it has to do with WiFi access.

Aren't we happy for the beautiful sunshine today? (you can take that 2 ways, Sharon)
Went for mammogram this morning, then to Lowe's for some mulch and potting soil for DH. Next stop was Dollar Tree where I got most everything I wanted and at $1.00 each and into Lowe's Foods where I spotted big, beautiful peaches for $1.48 lb. Blueberries were too high. (I mix the two for GF Crisp and the kids love it.) As I drove past Wendy's I decided to get several sandwiches (.99 ea.) to bring home for lunch. That way DH could stay outdoors.
Just cooked GF corn pasta and added my meat sauce for kids dinner. Their mom flew to NY today for business for the whole week so I will help out.
Better get moving! Talk later!

Good afternoon!

Must have been a great morning for sleeping in. I didn't wake up till 9:15 today! I am so glad my cats have a big feeder and they don't wake me up in the wee small hours to be fed! All three of us were very content to sleep in today!

I went to the Singles luncheon here in the Village today. I walked up to the clubhouse but hitched a ride back. I don't want to do too much walking till I know my foot is officially healed. It's a fine line between too much and not enough walking. My SPAT usually comes in at between 3000 and 5000 steps a day. It was a pizza luncheon today. emoticon I had 2 pieces plus desserts. Should have passed on the desserts but didn't. emoticon Thursday a group from my old Parish in Fuquay is meeting at Beef O'Bradys in Fuquay for dinner. Friday is the Ladies Luncheon in the Village and Sunday I drive up to Virginia to attend an 80th B-day party for a good friend. Food, food, food. Surrounded with food! Where is the will power to go along with that?!!

Sharon, your blood will never thicken back up once you have lived in warmer temps. I was 30 years in Southern California after 22 years in Chicago, and I get cold when it gets below 65 outside! I will be here 15 years next week and I still HATE the cold!

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

Happy Super Tuesday!

I slept late this morning after waking at 1 am to attend to my mother. Seems like this is getting to be a routine and I have such a hard time getting back to sleep. emoticon

Thank Goodness today is an off day. I am enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee and planning out my day. I was hoping to get an appointment with my hairstylist but she has nothing available before my race day.

Maryellen so happy you have been getting out on your bike. It also sounds like Physical Therapy is going real good for you. I need to schedule some time to learn how to use my phone. Sounds like so many great features..
Carol, thanks for inviting Bobbie to our daily chats. I hope I will eventually get use to the cold temps. I felt like I was in hibernation last year. I got so use to FL Sunshine and Living. Temps below 53 degrees were very chilly to us.. Hard to believe I grew up in Upstate NY my first 17 years but I have been in the South over 42 years now. I hope when you go back down that you will continue to drop bye and let us know how you are doing.. I miss FL so much..
Sarah! I hope you are getting your much needed sleep. Let us know how you are doing!
Bobbie, again welcome! Please come by and share with us how you are doing, training and all, etc.

MaryEllen, I haven't signed up for any races near Raleigh yet. I do have one in Red Oak, close enough that I am going to walk to be able to walk to it :)

I remember a couple of snow storms when I first moved down here, my BF had a snow day his first week of work. The employees at the extended stay were telling us that we brought it with us.

Good Evening, All,

A late post today. I went to the Dr for the foot and then to PT. Doc. renewed the RX for another 4 weeks of PT. I think it is working but it could be wishful thinking. I didn't ask for more anti inflammatory. We'll see how it goes without them.

I downloaded the SP recipe app on the new phone. Boy has it come a long way since I first downloaded it and then never used it because it was pretty worthless.I haven't found a single one of my favorites to not be available within the app. You can mark your favorites and then call them up on the phone so if you are shopping you have all the ingredients at your finger tips. I have a Key Ingredient account/app/recipe reader where I have many of my recipes at hand, but not all of my SP recipes have made it over to that app. I just spent about 1.5 hours setting it up. Combine tech stuff and cooking/recipes and I can amuse myself for hours on end!

Sharon, I hope you are in top shape for your run on Saturday. Bobbie, have you signed up for that one? And welcome BTW! Nice to have another voice added to the group. Sarah, how are you sleeping nowadays? Hopefully this weather encourages a better pattern for you. Carol, are you back down here for the rest of the summer? Do you get up to the lake during the winter or is it just a summer-time place?

Did I tell you all that I did ride the bike?! No calamities or 911 calls! I'm not sure my crotch will ever be the same though!! I didn't ride long as I put on long pants (bicycle version of leathers!) but they had a boot cut leg and got caught in the chain, so I carefully rode back home. But I do still remember how to ride it, though I never did change gears. I forgot I had them! I was too busy trying to stay upright to think about gears!

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

Hi, Bobbie, so glad you took me up on the invitation to join us with Raleigh chats. You and Sharon will have a whole lot in common with your running.
Sorry you will miss the snow this winter. I am glad to head to FL and see NO snow after living in W PA most of my life and seeing plenty of snow. Raleigh had plenty last winter, too, so you had better get out the shoes with cleats!
Sharon, stay healthy this week. I would like to see you off in the race on Sat., but don't relish the traffic and it is a fairly long drive for me.
MaryEllen, I got a chuckle out of your post! Hope you learned a lot about your new phone! How can so many people afford the latest phone coming out?
Sarah, are you getting some sleep? Cooler weather, open windows, light blanket, all should help you sleep!

I have only done two races since moving down here, both in Rocky Mount. I have seen that there seems to be at least one race each weekend in Raleigh, and I am hoping that once I am feeling more comfortable driving down here I will venture that way alone.

I am actually going to miss my winter runs. If it was above zero, I was still out running. There were days when I would run in so snow deep I literally had to high knee it to get through snow drifts. I used to log my most miles from November to March. I would run in blizzards and ice storms, even had a pair of trail shoes with sheet metal screws in the soles for traction.

I think I am going to miss the snow more than anything this winter. There is nothing like a sunny winter morning after a fresh snowfall and the the sun hits it making it sparkle like diamonds. Or after a ice storm and everything looks coated in glass...absolutely breathtaking.

emoticon Welcome Bobbie! So Happy to see you.

I love this weather too and yes, so perfect for Running. Just don't like the cold freezing winters here. I lost my motivation last year after October..
My Sunshine Running Buds in Tampa Bay are still feeling the heat. We use to go out around 5 am and it still felt like a Sauna. It will probably be another month or so before they start up training again.

Are you doing any races here around town? So happy you stopped by and please continue. The more the merrier!

Wishing all a Great Day!

Good morning everyone, took advantage of the cooler temps and lower humidity the last couple of days with a 8 mile run yesterday and a short 2 mile run to shake out my tired legs this morning.

First summer for me down here and it has been a challenge, loved the heat but didn't realize how quickly my body can dehydrate down here with the high humidity levels. But I have to say, it really made my runs feel a lot easier these past two days. I can run faster and harder without my body getting as fatigued on cooler days.

I hope everyone has a great day!!!

Good Morning! Oh What a Beautiful Morning.

I woke early this morning for my last longer run until Race Day on Saturday.
I finally have a new pair of running shoes that feel so good. I never wore Brooks before and I just love the way they feel. So springy and cushy. The plan this morning is to run 7- 8 miles and the rest of the week no more than 4 miles. I had many challenges within the past month so hopefully I am now fully recovered.

I hope everyone had a Wonderful Week End! There was so much going on in the area. And lots of Football too!

I am really enjoying this weather. Cooler mornings and warming up in the afternoons.

Wishing all a Great Day and Week ahead!

Good Morning! Happy Sunday Morning! What a Beautiful Morning!

I slept late and it is after 8 am with temps in the 60's. I am enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee with the doors open listening to Joel Osteen on TV.
I did my Cardio Blast Workout yesterday and started feeling tinges again in my lower back. That went away but now my right Quad is in a lot of pain. This should be interesting with my Half Marathon coming up on Saturday.
Lesson learned about Half Marathon Training. Buy two pairs of Running shoes. Use one pair for training runs and one pair for races. And keep track of mileage on each shoe. My Asics were used way above the recommended mileage and my body paid for it. I never had shoes give out like that before, but then, I always had two pairs. My shoes still look great so I will use them for walking and indoor workouts.
My unexpected challenges, interesting Joel....
I hope to get outside for a walk soon and maybe do some light workouts and Abs.
Monday I hope to do a 7-8 mile Run/ Walk and then during the week start tapering.

Well, that 1 lb. I lost came back this morning. That is why I don't change the ticker for a few weeks. Oh well. I hope it will be gone by the end of the month.

Wishing you all a Happy Day!

Good Sunday Morning, Gang!

Got half of my PT stretches done as well as my regular stretches for my back. I still need to do another set of stuff for PT. I'll do that as soon as I'm done posting this.

Off to the Ukrainian Luncheon in Apex after Mass, then if the weather cooperates I want to begin riding my bike. Great temps for that. After what I hope will be a short ride (got to get my butt used to the seat!) I do my "homework" for my Bible Study class that meets on Wednesday. That should make for a pretty nice Sunday.

Yesterday I went to the Verizon Store in Cary for the free class. I learned quite a bit, but left my sheet of questions on the kitchen table! DUH! I also learned that it's not too bright to go to a phone store the weekend AFTER Apple makes a big announcement about their new IPhone! What a zoo! They have actually cancelled classes for the next two weeks in anticipation of the hoards of people doing pre orders. I got to people watch while I waited for my class to start (I was the only one signed up so it was one on one!) It was almost as good as people watching at the airport! What a cast of characters! Well, off to do my wall stretches and then get ready for Church. Have a great day!

You all have so much on your plates!!! I don't even text because one son pays for our Verizon Plan with his and I don't do any of the extras. My older (82) sister doesn't even answer her phone anymore. You have to text her. Needless to say, I haven't heard from her in 2 or 3 years. Kind of sad in my opinion.
I sent the link for free cookbook to DIL who has kindle, used by 16 yr old daughter who is very avid reader.
We go to Greek Festival in FL and it is a lot of fun. Have friends active in that church.
Friends in W. PA had to turn on heat this morning as temps are in 50's. Wish we could get rid of humidity so we could open doors.
Congrats on weight, Sharon, and good luck mastering all the new electronics!
MaryEllen, my sister attended Verizon classes several years ago when SmartPhones first came out. My comment, "i don't want a phone that is smarter than I". (what about computer?)
Off to great room to ride recumbent bike. Pool water is on the cool side.
Have a great and busy day!!!

Good Gloomy Morning to everyone!

Thanks to the overcast skies, I slept till after 8 this morning. Still need to do my stretching. I have an appointment at the Verizon store in Cary to take a free class on my new phone. I "divorced" AT&T and went on my sister's "Family Plan" with Verizon. I liked my HTC phone but with the new plan (with her employee discount! WooHoo!) a new phone was in order. I ended up with a Samsung and they offer free classes for that. I might as well take advantage of them. There are a few things I can't figure out and several things I never did know how to do on my HTC.

Sharon it sounds like you are in for a big learning curve with all those new electronics! One at a time is all I can manage! I've had my Windows 8 machine for over a year and I am still fumbling through it. Such a big change. I chickened out and installed the old Windows opening screen with the familiar icons instead of the tiles or charms! I am just now beginning to feel comfortable enough with them to even touch them to explore what it can do!

I hope some of you can get that Gluten Free cookbook. I have several cookbooks that I got free and I loaded them to "the cloud" where I can call them down on my computer when I want to browse them. Then they are not cluttering my tablet or my phone. I haven't actually used the Kindle itself in several years.

And yes, it is a busy weekend for sure. There is also a Ukrainian Luncheon on Sunday in Apex and we are "giving up" our regular Toot N Tell meal to support them. The Greek Festival is a blast! Lots of music and great food to be sure! Very loud and be prepared to say "OOPA!" a lot! A fun place and the people work all year to make it happen. Have a great weekend no matter what you do!

Good Morning Team!

I am so happy to say I finally got a solid good night sleep. Woke up after 8 am this morning and am enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee. Looks pretty gloomy outside.. I heard it will be a rainy weekend bringing in some cooler temps sometime next week. I just hope next Saturday will be a perfect Running Day for my Half Marathon..

MaryEllen, thanks for sharing this link. I had gotten my mother one of these electronic books, need to figure it out. I thought for her visual impairment, I could get big print for her. I am not so techy and am on overload right now. I ended up getting new computer, smart phone, kindle and camera. I am still figuring out my new computer going from XP to Windows 8. My phone is still in the box with my mother's electronic book. Camera I am finally beginning to learn. Looks like some great books on Gluten Free.

So much seems to be going on in Raleigh this weekend... Greek Festival and Farm Aid..
I have never been to any of these since I moved back to the Raleigh area. One of my long ago best friends is Greek and I think she participates with these events with her church. I would love to see her again. I have not seen her in over 20 years.. Since moving to Florida and now back to Raleigh.

Nothing planned this weekend so I may get my mother trying out some of Coach Nichole's Sitting Down Chair exercises later this morning after I do some of my Cardio.
I couldn't believe the number on the scale this morning...129.4 lbs.!! Finally below 130 lbs. This has taken me almost a year to lose 10 lbs. But I did gain a lot of muscle and I know muscle weighs more than fat.. I don't like to update my ticker until I have been there for a few weeks, don't want to jinx it.

Wishing Everyone a Great Weekend!

Glad you feel like running, Sharon, but don't know how you feel like doing it with so little sleep. I just feel terrible when I don't get enough.
Baked 18 GF Blueberry Muffins for the kids. They have fallen in love with the mix from King Arthur and I add a lot of fresh or frozen blueberries. Anything King Arthur makes is of the best quality.
Also made a batch of brownies, boiled a dozen eggs and have 6 very large stuffed peppers ready to bake in a couple of hours. Making deviled eggs for kids and to take to friend's for dinner. Also taking the peppers, brownies and cheesecake I made and froze in slices a few weeks ago. (Never did that before)
I take enough that they will have leftovers as Barry has to do the cooking and that has never been his forte.
That's what is going on at our house!

Good Morning All! TGIF!

I had another sleepless night. I think I woke at 2 or 3 am and just could not get back to sleep.
Finally went down stairs around 5 am and made my coffee. I checked in on my mother and she was all turned around in her bed and half off. She was also awake??

Carol, I really do enjoy our daily chats too! I really look forward to it every day. It is like getting together for coffee..
I have always wondered about doctors prescribing all these meds. I always felt uncomfortable too when visiting a doctors office and you see sales reps from pharmaceutical companies waiting to talk to the doctors. I am so sorry to hear your doctor tried to switch your meds to the higher cost. Did they tell you why? Glad you were able to get back on the original one that worked for you.

This has been a busy week and one more doctor appointment today for my mother. I really am looking forward to the weekend.. I hope to do some Quick Cardio Workouts to Warm up with and then out the door for a short speed run. I am planning on running 7-8 miles either Sun or Mon as I then will gradually taper down for Race Day on Sat. 9/20.

Wishing all a Great Day and Happy Weekend!

I do enjoy these chats.
Glad your back is a little better, Sharon.
Sometimes we just have to stand up for what we want to do in the way of meds. My doctor changed one of mine in June to a very expensive one, and last week I told the clinical nurse I simply did not want to take it. The old one was working fine, I didn't appreciate the high cost, and I was only getting 30 pills when I always like to get 90. By the end of the day I had a call saying I was to go back on the old one and a 90 day prescription had been phoned in.. Thank God I can still handle those things.
Too many people are over-medicated.
Enough of my rambling. Hope everyone had a good day!
