Good Morning Team! Happy Sunday!

I can't believe we are already on the last day of November! Where has this year gone?

I did not make it to the Lake Yesterday so hopefully will get out today and tomorrow while my son is here.. He flies back to FL Wednesday.. I wish I could go back with him, I am so homesick...

I stayed away from the Malls and even Grocery Stores. My weight crept up a bit, 2 lbs. Hopefully getting outside and run a bit will shake it off. Keeping up daily with my challenge and cardio. I just have been having problems getting outside in the cold weather.

I have lots of leaves to bag so hopefully I can do some of that today before going to the Lake.
My son and husband want to fish while I push mom in wheel chair for a walk/ run.

Wishing all a Happy Sunday!

So sorry about your cold weather and doubly sorry that ME has no heat. I just hate to be cold! Maybe ME should pack her bag and go visiting. She'll be getting sick living in that cold.
Our son in OH is having about the same temps as you.
I won't make it worse by telling you about our weather.
We're home, unpacked, have slooow internet, going to bed early, and completing the month of November tomorrow! Going to church, getting back to exercise routine, and starting Christmas decorations. Hope you all warm up real soon!!!

Yes, the space heaters are saving the day. Took a long hot shower but then had to face the cold bathroom. I had closed the door but one of my cats loves to watch the water on the shower doors and got the door open! Crafty little thing! Of course he did not close it behind him when he tired of the dripping drops! I will survive. While on my trip, I learned of a tribe in the Tierra del Fuego area called the Yamanas. They were of course living in extreme conditions very near Antarctica. They wore NO CLOTHES! and they lived on dugout canoes, building fires in them for warmth! They used whale and seal blubber mixed with clay to protect their bodies! Makes me sound like a real wimp, doesn't it?!! I just need to count the blessings I do have and put the inconveniences on the back burner. (it's probably warmer back there anyway!!)

MaryEllen, so sorry to hear about no heat.. Yikes! I hope you get someone out asap to get it repaired. My mothers house is very drafty. I have temp set at 72 and am still freezing. I bought small space heaters. Her house is older and found out there is no insulation under the floors and between crawl space. Another project for getting this place updated.

Take care and sending some warm karma your way!

BURRRRR!

And would you believe I have no heat, not even my fireplace?! I had the builder here the other day doing the items on my one year punch list. Nothing big or involved, just a few minor items. I asked if there was a filter up on the furnace that needed to be changed, as both filters that I knew about were up in the ceiling requiring me to climb a ladder every 3 months to change them out. Not a good thing for a 66 year old to be doing! His helper and I went up to the attic to look at the furnace. We removed the two panels to look around and found no filter, so we went to put the panels back. We had a devil of a time getting them back in place but seemed to finally succeed. Well, it turns out that since then I've not had any heat. I noticed it on Thanksgiving but with the ovens going and the extra people it was fine. Yesterday, it would not get above 67, so I sent the builder an email and his helper came right out. The furnace is cranking away up in the attic but no heat is coming into the house. I had to call the furnace people. So I commented that I probably had to get the fireplace going. Well, I went over to the fireplace and the darn pilot comes on right away but the logs do not light! What the heck?!?! The furnace people can't come till Monday afternoon without me paying for an emergency visit of an extra $150.00 (not gonna happen!!) and the fireplace guy has not yet called back! Fortunately I have begun baking and I have 2 oil filled little radiators going and so far no icicles dripping from my nose! I'll continue to bake today, more out of necessity than anything else, so that will help. But the temp in the house is now down to 66. Really not too bad considering the temps outside are below freezing. I've turned the unit off because the fan just kept blowing cold air. I keep trying to light the fireplace with no success. I had heard that after months of non-use, the gas in the lines can go flat, so maybe I can clear them eventually. Meanwhile, I'll dress like I did in Patagonia, lots of layers just like an onion! Those little old ladies with their shawls and scarves really knew what they were doing as they really do keep you warm. And there's now extra incentive to get aboard that treadmill and work up a sweat! Never a dull moment!

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

emoticon Good Morning!

It has been so cold here, low's in the 20's! Today temps are gradually warming up to maybe mid to upper 50's. We are planning on going to the Lake in the afternoon. My husband and son wants to go fishing and I thought it would be fun to go walk around the lake with my mother..

I don't like the scale this morning! emoticon Yikes, 1.6 lbs. over goal. I am not changing on ticker until the end of the month so hopefully that will disappear.

I have been staying away from the malls even grocery stores. I hope to get out on Monday when hopefully everyone is back to work..

Wishing all a Great Weekend!

Sounds as though everyone enjoyed the holiday and survived just fine!
We did too, but I have gotten very little exercise here as I am either tired out or it is too cold and windy.
Today one nephew insisted on taking us all out to dinner even though we would have been happy eating leftovers. Ate at a Black Angus Steak House and food was very good. It is a shame to see how much food is wasted by the two little girls. They eat two bites out of the center of each section of sandwich, a few bites of this or that, and the rest is thrown out. And they do this at every meal.
Can you believe this one? Before Thanksgiving Dinner, their parents went out to buy fish sticks and French fries for the 6 year old as she eats very few foods. By the time dinner was ready, she changed her mind and wanted a hot dog which her mother prepared, she ate about 1/3 of it and was done. She did try a sliver of pumpkin pie and surprisingly, she liked
it!!! The 4 year old eats almost everything but they put too much on her plate and it is wasted. Wasting food (or other things) don't settle well with me. Waste not, want not.
Glad I didn't try the turkey bags like a friend suggested. I like my turkey with nice brown skin and the juices in bottom of pan brown for the gravy. Cooking it the day before, cutting off the carcass, then reheating in broth makes it delicious. Don't think there is a dry piece of turkey in all 17 lbs. We, also, will be eating for weeks to come, but I love to make different dishes with turkey.
Enough of my ramblings. Talk later, Carol

Good Morning All!

Sounds like everyone survived yesterday. So much baking and enjoying time with family and friends.

I am grateful I ran yesterday's gobblers run. It was fun and just what I needed before the big meal. I Even had Pumpkin Pie with whip cream and lost that 1 lb. gain.

Today I did a 45 minute low impact workout and then Power Grace which is Day 26 of my challenge. I love this challenge and it will take me all the way to the New Year..

I am planning on signing up for Jingle Bell Run which I believe is next weekend at 10:30 am. It is off Hillsbourgh Street St Mary's Campus. The charity on this is arthritis. I love running charity runs especially this time of year.

Wishing you all a great day and weekend! Be safe if you are out and about.

Well, folks, I am STUFFED!! emoticon

We had a wonderful dinner. All the side dishes and desserts that folks brought were wonderful. I cooked the turkey in a bag for the first time. I guess the white meat was juicy. Don't know 'cause I only do dark meat. But the skin stuck to the bag and it seemed to be more steamed than roasted. I know folks swear by the bags, but I wasn't impressed. And i still have an entire half left over. Most of that will get frozen for salads and casseroles. We had, as is usually the case, way too much food. I didn't even make the spinach fritters. Oven room was at a premium, and for the first time in 15 years I once again have double ovens. Still not enough room for everything. to cook at once. Everyone went home with leftovers. It was a nice mix of guests as well. I worked with Donna at American Airlines. We were in the same graduating class. I've known her kids since they were 7 and 2 and not even a glint in their Dad's eye! My former across the street neighbor came as well as a couple that we play cards with every Wednesday. Donna's husband (a Durham cop) had to work at 6pm, so he left after having dessert and then the rest of us kind of cleaned things up a bit and played Scatergories. It's hard to believe that the once 2 year old is now driving and the once 7 year old is a father now himself!

Glad the race went well for you Sharon. And Carol, the blueberry muffins sound wonderful I do love blueberries. Reminds me I have some blueberry sauce in the freezer and a bit of cottage cheese in there. Makes for a nice breakfast, though I may not eat again till next week!

Well, I need to finish the last few dishes and empty the dishwasher. I really should get on the treadmill. We'll see if that happens or not!

Glad your race went well, Sharon. If I were home I would have seen you in race since I live out that way.
ME, I'm chuckling at your buying so many turkey thighs and have enough for whole year. My family also loves thighs, especially chicken thighs.
Our 17 lb. turkey provided an awful lot of meat, but it will get eaten. Still have lots of food and only 2 days left for our stay. I don't need to shop for a long time. (that's what I always say)
I really don't think I will do any extra baking for Christmas. I have always baked and given neighbors treats, but just think I will opt out of that this year. I love my nut breads and will make them and blueberry muffins - all healthy. OOPS!!! Just changed my mind! I was given a case of beautiful, big blueberries and will make blueberry muffins to share. Well, settled that!
Gotta' leave as the movie "FROZEN" is being started in kids' condo and I want to see it.

Good afternoon!

emoticon emoticon I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving Day! emoticon

I enjoyed my run this morning and came in 2nd in my age group. ME, I did get some warmer clothes and thank goodness I remembered my gloves. It was cold and started to rain lightly at the starting line. It was very light rain and did finally stop. I added a couple of pictures and one is of my friend from college. Her daughter is the director of the Boys and Girls club and put this race together. They had a professional photographer there so can't wait to see those pictures. I keep a book of all the races I have done ever since my first one back in 1993- Gasparilla 15 K Long Distance in Tampa Bay.

We will be enjoying our meal this evening. I prepared some time consuming cooking yesterday so today should be easy for me.

Sounds like everyone has done some wonderful cooking and baking. Have a Wonderful Evening!

Trying to get things ready for tomorrow. 8 of us will enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner. I still need to get the floors done and then prep as many of the veggies as I can so tomorrow will be free to enjoy the company. Oh, and make the pie tonight as well. A pumpkin is coming tomorrow but I am making a Coconut Custard. It's one of my guest's favorite and she's not tasted mine yet. When I served it to my B-I-L one year, he helped himself to a second piece and his last words to me that evening as they were leaving were "DON'T lose that recipe!!" It is really a good one! And I have been so excited that I found Turkey Thighs at Lowe's this past week! That is my favorite part of the turkey and you used to be able to buy them all the time. I think they are now using them for ground turkey as you NEVER see them anymore. Lowe's obviously cut up some whole turkeys and I have been buying 4 of them every time I go there this week. With proper pacing I have enough for the entire year! Good thing I have a chest freezer in the garage.

I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow. Good luck in your race tomorrow Sharon. Did you get the cold weather wear you wrote about ordering? It will be cold at 6:30am tomorrow for sure. Take precautions. You don't want to be sick with all the coming Holiday events I am sure you have scheduled. And you certainly don't want to be passing anything off to your Mom. I assume your son is still visiting? I know you will have a great day with him there.

emoticon Good Morning! emoticon

I slept too good last night. emoticon Waking up after 8:30 am. I just hope I can wake up 4:30 am on Thanksgiving Day. I have to pick friend up at 6:30 and head to Wake Forest for the Gobblers Run. It has been raining a lot here in NC and by tomorrow morning temps will be dropping to the low 40's once again. Knock on Wood, so far no cold. It took over 6 weeks to get rid of sinus infection so I hope to stay healthy through the New Year..

I made a Martha Stuart Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread yesterday and modified a bit. It needed to cook a little longer- I added Almond Milk rather than butter milk and a whole can of Pumpkin rather than 7/8 of a can. I did not have enough gluten free all purpose flour so I used coconut flour for the rest. It tasted real good but broke in half when I tried to get it out of loaf pan. I had to put back in oven to cook a little longer.

Got to go. I have a double work out scheduled today!

Good Afternoon All!

I overslept this morning by two whole hours!! emoticon But felt great to sleep..Yikes!!

I got my Cardio done and then 60 minutes Cuts & Curves using 3 and 5 lb. weights. My lower right side of my back is hurting? I may take a muscle relaxant this evening. I am running the Gobblers 5K run in Wake Forest Thanksgiving Morning! My college friends daughter is race director for this and Charity is the Boys and Girls club. Should be fun..

I got some things and will try a Gluten Free Pumpkin Bread this afternoon- Martha Stuart Recipe. I also want to try to make my own pumpkin pie but did buy sugar free one just in case. I love Pumpkin and it is so good for you.

We are having rain here too and it has been very dreary outside. I think I need to invest in more sunshine happy lights to fight off SAD..

Got to Go! I hope you all have a Great Day!

Rainy day in Orlando, sometimes serious storms. One family of 3 went to Disney but returned soaked after an hour. They live in FL and got season passes so will go at other times. First time for their 5 yr old who was born in Scotland and has lived abroad most of his life, so he knew nothing about Disney World.
The 3 little cousins are having a good time playing together. Kids always improvise!
Chuck and I will head for home after an early dinner and I will make some pies, do the turkey and dressing and a few other things. Hope to return in 24 hours. I should have brought the turkey here as we have beautiful cooking facilities and in the office they even passed out foil pans for cooking turkeys. I am used to my own kitchen, but these condos are bigger than my little park model and the granite countertops are beautiful and ample.
Better get busy, will talk later, Carol

Carol, I was lucky on my outing today.. I found Gluten Free Biscuit, Baking Powder and Baking Soda- GF. Now will check out those pumpkin recipes. I still have to post my low carb cheesecake. It is so good and at night so satisfying. I think it helps me sleep at night.

Sharon, remember that lb. may come from Baking Soda and Powder that cause you to retain fluid. Will go away soon. Good Luck with your shopping!
Sun is just breaking thru after 10 AM in Orlando where temp will reach mid-80's. Not sure what we are doing today but I must get out and walk since I didn't bother to bring swimsuit and all of my gear. At least I do have good internet connections.
Will talk later, Carol

Good morning! Happy Monday..

I woke early.. Completed a Cardio workout and am getting ready for Phenomenal Abs. My son and I were not able to get out shopping yesterday so we need to get out today. Today is my husbands birthday and I don't even have Birthday Cards for him. Yikes! I should not have waited for my sons arrival to get these things.

I spent time in the kitchen yesterday and of coarse the boyz watched football all day. It was a rainy day all day and night. Looks like the Sun is starting to shine.

Carol, I was told the best 100% Stevia is Sweet Leaf. I have that on my shopping list. My Gluten Free Brownies turned out great but is made with real Organic Sugar- 20 grams, quite high.. I saw a lb. come on after yesterday..

Wishing all a Wonderful Day and Thanksgiving Week! emoticon

Thanks for the heads up on Stevia. I just bought a bag at Aldi's and as soon as I get home will check to see if it is 100% Stevia. I find it is sweeter than Splenda. The lady who told me about it baked with it all the time and I will in the future, just didn't want to when our little girls love my nut breads and I don't want them to have artificial sweeteners.
Not sure where you can buy Xanthan Gum and can't remember where I did get it years ago. Maybe Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. Look online for places to buy.
My sister, her daughter, son-in-law and two little granddaughters arrived today after traveling all night from western PA. Son, wife and grandson arrive tomorrow from Ponte Vedra, near Jacksonville, FL.
Temps today were in mid-80's and they all went swimming. What a switch from freezing rain one day to swimming the next!
Don't work too hard getting ready for the big holiday. I am going to try not to fuss too much!
Talk later, Carol

Thanks for the tip Carol. I have to get out today for last minute shopping and will look for Gluten Free Bisquick. I will probably break down and buy that expensive gluten free ingredient too. I have lots of coconut and almond flour that I bought last year and kept in freezer. It will be great to finally use since that was so expensive. I did get a Gluten Free Brownie Mix and will cook those up today. I bought a new Stevia Product by NOW, that is Organic and 100% Stevia, no fillers. I have found many claim to be Pure and when you look at the label ingredients, they are not. So frustrating. Carol, have you used Stevia in your baking? I am trying to find a conversion chart for this Now Organic Better Stevia. I did not see a measuring spoon in it either?

Good Morning! My son arrived early afternoon yesterday. Today is predicted to be a stormy day and we will have cooler weather blast through early next week.

We had a cheat meal last night of pizza. emoticon emoticon It was so good. Today I plan to cook a Pork Tenderloin, my favorite recipe from the Spark People Cookbook. This time I will not stuff with Spinach, just have that on the side. Tomorrow is my husbands Birthday and plan to have a Surf & Turf..

I am getting ready for a 45 minute Cardio and then Day 21, Max Abs of my 60 Day U Challenge. My goal is not to gain any weight this Thanksgiving like I did last year. I gained 10 lbs. and it took a year to loose. I am trying to maintain now within my weight range. This is the tough part especially this time of year.

Wishing all a Happy Sunday!

Hello from Orlando - well, it's really Kissimmee! Didn't expect rain today but everything was wet when we arose at 6:30, then it drizzled off and on all day. Better than the freezing rain my sister was getting in PA. They are leaving about this time to come down and I pray they have no bad roads.
Temp was nice this AM and I had a pleasant walk. Finished my Christmas letter, typed it and printed it out. So glad that is done. Think I will take it to Staples to have the copies made since I used colored ink and don't want to get new cartridges, etc. Last year I printed my own and was frustrated.
Packed refrigerator and freezer foods and managed to leave on schedule 1 PM. Got halfway here and discovered I left my purse in closet. DH had $40.00 and credit cards so we will be fine. Plan to go home on Tues. evening so I can cook turkey and other foods on Wed, then return for Thanksgiving. Maybe be home just 24 hours.
Sharon, so glad your son is going to spend some time with you. Enjoy every minute!
If you use gluten free Bisquick, make an Impossible Pumpkin Pie. So easy and it forms a very thin crust on the bottom. I am making one with regular Bisquick because DH does not care for pie crust. Many of the gluten free mixes now include Xanthan Gum and you do not need to add it. That is one reason GF mixes are expensive.
Dieters often make pumpkin pie filling, pour it into glass pie dish and skip the crust. I have done that many times.
MaryEllen, I chuckled at your posting. I also had hard time finding parking place when I went to Ladies Luncheon on Tuesday and am not sure I parked in a real parking spot, but motorcycle was there so I joined it. No problem. Nice of you to cook special for vegetarians. I hope no one is vegan as that is a real challenge.
How blessed we are to live in this country where we have so much to choose from and need to help those who are less fortunate. Talk later, Carol

Good Morning All!! Happy Pre-Thanksgiving Weekend!

WOW Carol and Maryellen, you both are always so busy. Sounds like so much fun!!

My son should be arriving sometime around 1 pm. I hope he gets to the airport in time. This flight is a little earlier than he is use to. I am almost thinking of giving him a wake up call so we don't take any chances.

I am searching for some gluten free pumpkin recipes where I can also use Stevia for any type of sweetener. I am thinking of making a pumpkin cheesecake and would like to make pumpkin bread. I need to get that expensive gluten free thickener that Carol mentioned awhile back.

Got to go start my cleaning and then quick shopping.

Have a Wonderful Weekend You All!

Busy day for me as well. The Village Ladies had their monthly luncheon today at Seaboard 18. I left in plenty of time to get there early, but my neighbor stopped me to chat and then when I got to the area I could NOT find the darn restaurant! That area is really developed and when I finally found it there was no parking. I cruised around and found a spot by Tyler's Tap Room and so I walked to the front of the building where I saw the Seaboard 18 sign. They then direct you to a walkway and then you turn left and walk a bit and I realized that I was parked right in front of the place but the sign is on the back side of the building! How crazy is that?! Anyway I had a nice lunch with several ladies I already knew but got acquainted with several more that I had never talked to.

Tonight there was a magic/mentalist show at the Garner Performing Arts Center. My next door neighbors and I went with another of the singles. We ran into 2 other couples from the Village there as well, so we all sat together. The magician was only so so but the mentalist was amazing. Three random people picked a year, a State and the name of someone they knew. He got all three correct. Year 2004, State was CT and the person was Santa Claus! What are the odds of getting those right? His grand finale was pretty amazing as well. In the very beginning of the show they had a manila envelop with a big question mark on the front. It hung from a hook high on the stage (needed a chair to reach it) all night. In the very end, they took out the paper and answers to about 7 questions asked of the audience were written on it, including the birthdays of 2 young kids from the audience. Pretty amazing.

I'm with Carol as far as activities for tomorrow go. I need to start on my Christmas letter and maybe start some Christmas baking. Actually I probably need to make the spinach fritters that I am going to have for Thanksgiving for the Vegetarians that are coming. I'll get them all ready to bake and freeze them so I can bake them fresh on Thursday. I'll have two other vegetables along with mashed and sweet potatoes and mac & cheese. That should be enough for them to fill up on. I have never adopted the Southern custom of mac & cheese for every manner of celebration! To me that is a dish you had to have on Fridays when we Catholics could not eat meat! Now I enjoy it as much as anybody else, but I just don't picture it being a staple on my Holiday menu. This will be a first for me. And with half of the guests not eating meat, that will leave more dark meat for me! Hooray for Vegetarians!

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

Hi All! I know it is late for me but I had a real busy day.

I completed Day 19 of my 60 day U Challenge first thing this morning.
My mother and I had hair appointments and our hairstylist did a great job.
We went shopping and got home before 5 pm.

My son will arrive early afternoon tomorrow! Yeah!

I feel guilty, but I have not done much cleaning.. I guess I better gt to it first thing in the morning.

Carol, warming up to the70's. I sure do miss living in FL.

Got to go! Happy Pre-Thanksgiving Weekend!

Between the cold weather and being very busy getting food prepared to take to Timeshare for 10 of us for a week, I have failed to get my exercise. Also took time to go to friend's to use his DSL as our internet in park probably won't happen for a long time. I'm looking into getting Air Card through Verizon, but since son provides our phones, I have to have him actually do it.
Tomorrow temp should reach 75 so we are planning to have water aerobics classes. How warm will the water be?
The Duke/UNC game is on right now, but DH was so tired he went to bed before halftime. He got lots of exercise this morning and is going to play softball in the morning. He forgets he is past 82!!!
Have a great Friday!!!

Good Morning All! I woke early this morning, 4:30 am? I did the same thing yesterday?

I am pretty excited, I will be meeting my college friend at Fitness Connect this morning for a Yoga Class. After, I hope to run on treadmill to get a run in. These cold temps have kept me indoors and my energy levels are not the same in the early afternoon. I am running gobblers run Thanksgiving morning in Wake Forest..

I just finished Day 18 of my Challenge, Lord of the Abs- Abs on Fire. Now to get my mother up for breakfast so I can be ready to go by 8:15 am.

Wishing all a Great Day!

Good Morning! Burrrrrrrrrr ........ Woke early this morning and have been just spending some early time reading e-mails, FB and Spark People. I enjoyed my coffee but still feel frozen in my chair. Maybe it is time to do some Cardio to warm up some. Today is Day 17 on my Challenge- Core & More- 63 minutes total weight training.

Mary Ellen, so happy your are back. I really enjoyed reading about your travel adventures. I am so like you with these cold temps. I also keep the temp set at 72 degrees. After living in Tampa Bay for over 20 years, I really am having problems adjusting to the Winters here in NC.

Carol, I think we are ready to pack it up and come down to the Sunshine State. I know the cold weather has traveled down there too, but 40's is better than the teens. Yikes!! And I signed up for a Gobbler run on Thanksgiving Day.

My mother and I have our hair appointment on Friday so maybe I can shop around for a winter running jacket and accessories.

My doctor went over my blood work yesterday. I was a little surprised my Protein levels are down since I follow Paleo Diet which is a high protein diet. It also revealed I am Hypothyroid and my A1C was elevated. At least my doctor told me the Paleo Diet is a good diet for me to follow... Family History of Diabetes. That could be why it took almost 2 years to loose weight gained in 6 months???

Got to go! Wishing all a Great Day! Thanksgiving is just around the corner.

Still no new internet service, but they say it is coming soon. Believe it when I can connect from my home!
Big news is that FL is cold and windy today. Struggled to get to 50 and even DH donned a sweat suit and turned on the heat in his FL room. I baked this AM and house was actually too warm, but the heat pump will run tonight.
Went to Ladies Luncheon today, didn't eat much. Ladies riding with me wanted to stop for frozen yogurt on way home, but I had none. Did eat my apple bread and some zucchini bread that I made today. So good with hot tea.
Glad you enjoyed your trip Mary Ellen, but I'm not sure I could enjoy going anywhere cold.
Are you going to post your photos?
Sharon, our son had squirrels get into one part of house this fall, but fortunately one of the dogs alerted him and he was able to shoot them before any damage was done. They are such a nuisance!
Enjoy your time with your son.
I get to spend time with my sister and family next week and am excited about that.
Talk later, Carol

Well, I got home about 3pm on Saturday. I had a WONDERFUL trip! Remember back in elementary school they taught you about the Strait of Magellan? the Beagle Channel? Charles Darwin? Cape Horn? Well, I can now say I've been to all of them! (Well, I haven't actually "been" to Charles Darwin, but I walked in his proverbial footsteps!) And throw in Easter Island and those Maoi statues, well, it was just fabulous! My house looks like a bomb went off, but eventually I will get things under control.. I think the stacks of mail are what gives it the "lived in look"! My foot was really very well behaved. It would have been even better had I remember to use my orthotics when I headed off for a big hike to an iceberg. I had been limiting myself to the lesser hikes till that day, and darned if I didn't forget to change them into my hiking boots! I trudged through what seemed like miles and miles of pebble beach in 35 mph gusts of wind being pelted by sleet, with no insoles at all in those boots! (According to my SPAT, I walked 5.3 miles that day!) Though I feared it would set me back, I soldiered on and apparently it had no residual ill effects. It was truly an adventure. We learned that the Yamana tribal people who were indigenous to the area put up with the weather by smearing whale and seal blubber mixed with mud on their bodies. They were essentially naked their whole lives and lived in their boats most of the time. I can't imagine anyone living in Patagonia with virtually no shelter. I had 8 layers on top to keep warm. They tell you to dress like an onion so you can peel off clothes as needed. I did little peeling! And this was the beginning of their Spring. We had some sun, but mostly very high winds, clouds, rain, sleet and snow. We did get to see the Pillars of Torres del Paine before the clouds enveloped them, so we were lucky there. All in all it was a great trip. I only gained 2.5 pounds, but add that to the previous 20 I had gained this past year and I have a real job ahead of myself. I re-started my morning stretching routine and that felt really good. My middle name must become "Determination", especially now with the Holidays coming up. I know me and despite the fact that I seem to be able to walk once again with little pain, I will really need to push myself to get out in this weather. I do have a treadmill, sitting just to my left as I type this. It needs to be put to use. It's good to be home. I had a small overnight trip scheduled in a few weeks and then I am home till March 1, when I go to the Galapagos. My friend from New Mexico and I are working on a river cruise on the Columbia and Snake Rivers for July. We'll see how that pans out. Anyway, I am glad to be back.

I hope everyone was well in my absence. Sharon, I hope Mom is doing well. She must also be getting excited about your son's visit. Always nice to be able to look forward to something. Carol, I do envy your FL retreat. I grew up in Chicago and came to hate the winters. My 30 years in Southern California totally wimped me out for cold weather. I tend to hibernate with the furnace cranked up. I used to feel guilty and really tried to keep it at 68, but at this stage of my life, I keep it at 72. When the weather turns cold and they caution people to "check on the elderly" to be sure they are warm, my girlfriend's youngest always reminds her to "check on Miss Mary Ellen"!! I guess in her eyes I have arrived at old age!! I guess it beats the alternative!! Have a great day!

Attitude is everything, pick a good one!

Just stopping by to say Hi!

My Internet, Cable TV and Phones were out for a day! Yikes! And TWC could not get out until today. Got it repaired after 3:30 pm. A squirrel chewed the wire. That squirrel is charred..

Lots to do to catch up and then getting ready for my sons visit this weekend.

Got a 60 minute Cardio done this morning since I could not get out in the rain to run. Weather looking pretty bad this week. I have a workout trampoline I will bring downstairs and run on that. I use to do that during the rainy time living in Orlando. Great alternative, just a little loud..

Wishing all a Great Week!

Great day in sunny FL. (sorry, Sharon) but will turn cold by Tuesday. Pool was nice and warm and I plan to go to water aerobics in the morning.
Went to church and then did lots of cooking in PM. Getting ready to go to Timeshare nest Sat. There will be 10 of us most of the time and I am looking forward to being with my younger sister and her family.
Still no new internet in park - don't know what the hold-up might be.
Better run as card players are coming in to Club House.

Good Morning! Happy Sunday..

I think Maryellen will be back around Thanksgiving. I think she said she was going to be gone for a few weeks? I might be wrong. I miss her and can't wait to hear of her journeys.

It is a wee bit warmer this morning. WOW! Temps around 30 degrees, better than 20 that we saw yesterday.

I kept my plants covered, hope they survived. I was not able to dig out my Pineapple plants but may go ahead and do it today and put them in clay pots and bring them inside. Crazy me, I grew them when I lived in Safety Harbor and Lemon Trees too. I want to try to make a plant shelf under the Family Room picture window so they will get lots of sunlight. Another project in the works.

I did not do much yesterday so after my workouts I need to start cleaning and organizing getting ready for my sons visit next weekend!

I signed up for a Gobblers Run on Thanksgiving Day in Wake Forest! Should be Fun..

I hope you all have a Great Day. This time of year I really get homesick for my FL living. We lived in Tampa Bay for over 20 years, my son grew up there and is still there in the Countryside Area.

Wishing all a Wonderful Day!!

Whew! That is cold!
I thought we were cold in mid 50's, But sun soon warmed it up and it is a gorgeous warm day. Meeting friends at pool at 3 PM. Water will be very warm.
Baked some healthy blueberry muffins this morning and distributed to some who are not able to bake. Chuck went to Men's Breakfast at church and I went to Craft Show in Club House for just a short while. My friend makes beautiful jewelry and craft items from glass washed up on Lake Erie that she has collected since a little girl. Adds driftwood and tiny seashells and I just can't resist her exquisite creations, so I buy for others.
New internet did not start today as anticipated. When???: Who knows???
Have not been able to track food for the last few weeks and was thrilled to get on scales and see I maintained. Success!!!
When does MaryEllen return from trip? Anxious to hear about her adventure!
Have a good week-end, Teammates!

Good Morning!

It is freezing here in NC. The temps are in the low 20's expected highs 40's.
I was too cold to go running yesterday when temps were in the 40's. I am
definitely going to have to find a fitness center where I can run on treadmill.

I made a wonderful meal last night from the Spark People Cookbook. My favorite is Spinach Stuffed Pork Tenderloin. Oh was it good.

Today I will do indoor cardio workout and then 60 minutes Cuts & Curves.. Day 13 of my Challenge.

Wishing all a Great Weekend!

Good Morning Team! Wishing all a Wonderful Friday!

Thanks for stopping by Sarah! I hope you have a Great Day Too!

I am enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee after a Good night sleep. Overslept again but I do hear it is raining outside. Oh well, there goes my morning run planned. Maybe this afternoon, weather permitting. I did sign up for Gobblers Run in Wake Forest. Should be Fun.

I will find some Cardio to do and then work on Day 12 of my Challenge.

I have been searching for some Gluten Free Pumpkin Recipes. I saw some for Pumpkin Bread and Lime Bars. Sounds for yummy and a must to try.

Have a Great Day and Weekend! Stay Warm!

Thanks Carol! You too!

I am happy to say I did push myself out the door early this afternoon.
I ran only a couple of miles but that is better than non. I had planned on getting out to run 6 miles and I overslept plus I forgot my mother had appointment for lab work.

Tomorrow is another day!! And it sure is going to be a cold one. I am trying real hard to get use to running in cooler temps. Before moving to FL I use to run around Shelley Lake every morning. I guess the FL Sunshine and mild temps changed me?

Enjoy Your Evening All!
Thinking of Maryellen and her wonderful travels..

Hi, finally got to Club House and internet is working fairly well this morning.
Sharon, thanks for being so faithful every morning.
Our new WiFi should be up and running by the 15th. So anxious to see how it works as I have not been able to do much with present system.
Did my walking this morning and plan to do water aerobics this afternoon as friend wants to go then. Tomorrow I will go to the morning class.
DH went to exercise, then play tennis followed by hitting softballs with a friend. He plans to make fresh orange juice in afternoon.
While I am sitting here in Club House, a zumba class is going on. It's geared for seniors - looks interesting.
Must get as much sparkin' done as possible. Talk later, Carol

Yes, hats off to all servicemen. Both my dad and older brother served in WWII. Then my brother was called back for Korean Conflict. Both are now deceased.
Cooler in FL also, mid 70's. tomorrow should get near 80, so hope to swim. Now just walking every day. Should ride recumbent bike, but find myself too tired later in the day.
Hope they get new internet up and running real soon! Talk later, Carol

I woke early this morning. Getting ready for Day 9 of my 60 Day Challenge. I am hoping to go out for a Run later this morning. A bit cool outside right now.

I also have been working on installing Handicap grip bars. Having a time trying to get it level. This is for my mother so I can get her standing and walking more on her feet her at the house. Physical Therapy ended for her this year but I hope to sign her up for more even though it will be self pay.. She has really been doing great..

Good Morning!

I sure miss everyone... Thanks Carol for dropping by!

I had a late start this morning but worked out perfect to go get my fasting blood work done. I put it off for almost a month because of not feeling well and my addiction to coffee. It is set on a timer so it is made fresh every morning when I wake up. This morning I woke late and decided to get out the door before I could smell the wonderful aroma.

I got out running last week, 2 days, one 5.33 mile and the other 6.58 miles. I do feel like I am starting over but that is OK. I plan to run a Gobbler 5K Thanksgiving Day in Wake Forest and also sign up for another 5k Jingle Bell Run. I am also signing up for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in April. Working on my 2015 Running Calendar.

If anyone else wants to post more links for races please do in the Events section.

Wishing all a Great Week! Don't forget about our red flags. Let's all try to keep our Raleigh Team Active. Determination = Victory!! We can do it!!!

Good Morning Team! Happy Sunday!

Today is Day 7 of my Challenge. I love this one, Abs on Fire. It is a Cardio Kickboxing that targets the Abs.

I hope to get out for a Run later in the day. I am signing up for the Gobbler Run on Thanksgiving Day. It has been very cold in the mornings so hopefully I can get out early afternoon after lunch.

Looks as though it is just Carol and Sharon lately. And I could not get online until after 10 PM and now it is time for bed. Had a busy day and finally sat down about 7:30, put hot cup of tea on little table, and before I could get the first sip, DH decided to give me a hug, bumped the table, and hot tea saturated the carpet that was cleaned last week. There was sweetener and creamer in tea so I proceeded to clean carpet the best I could. We did have cleaners use Scotch Guard so hope that helped. And I never did replace that hot tea I really wanted.
Oh well, could be worse.
My DIL shops online all the time, ordering most of the gluten free foods for kids. She gets bread by the case from Sami's in Tampa. After trying many breads thru the years, they came on this one and consider it the best.
Must get to bed, have a great Sunday!

Good Morning! Yeah! It's the Weekend!

Carol, thanks for checking in. It is always nice to hear from you and all your activities going on down in the Sunshine State.

I woke late and am enjoying my coffee.

The temps here in Raleigh, NC are in the low 30's. Too cold to get out the door for a run. I may try sometime after lunch.

I hope to warm up with my Express Cardio and then do Day 6 of my Challenge.

I need to get to Lowes and find a Greenhouse type cover for a few of my plants. Crazy me, I am trying to grow Pineapples like I did when living in Safety Harbor, FL. I may end up putting them in Pots and bringing them inside. I even have some small lemon trees I am trying to grow in pots. I had so much success when living in FL.

I do a lot of online shopping! It is hard for me to get out shopping and have had so much luck buying online. Nice to get it done early too.

Wishing all a great day!

Haven't been on Spark a lot as not only have I been very busy, but can't always get on the internet. Couple more weeks and we should have new system up and running.
Got 120 minutes exercise today, actually more, but that is all I could record.
I found I sleep much better on the nights after water aerobics. Temps are going into 70's for a while, but pool water is so warm I plan to keep going to it.
Busy week-end and food is always involved. I don't think I'll have any trouble, though. I am still trying to lose those last 5 lbs.
Hope everyone has a great week-end!!!

Good Morning Team! Yeah, It is Friday! Rest Day for me.

I pushed myself out the door yesterday and Ran/ Walked up hills 5.33 miles. The temps were perfect for me. I am meeting a friend this afternoon at Fitness Connect @ N. Hills location this afternoon. My mother has Silver Sneaker so she gets in free. I want to check it out as my alternative for running, to treadmill running this winter and get my mother walking. Physical Therapy ended for her until next year.

This 60 day Challenge I started is making every muscle burn... It should go through the end of the Year..

Wishing all a Wonderful Friday! Keep on Sparking!

Good Morning Team! Yeah for Thursday!

It looks like temps this morning are perfect for Running! I plan to do a 27 minute Cardio Express for my warm up and then push myself out the door. I think I am feeling better and want to get out this morning before the expected rain later today.

I have been looking at Races for the end of the year and 2015. I hope to do a Turkey Trot and then Jingle Bell Run through the end of the year. I will be signing up for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in April.

I am on Day 4 of my 60 Day U Challenge. Today is Max. Abs, from Lord of Abs series. I really am beginning to see definition and muscle.. Woo Hoo!

Good Morning! Happy Election Day! Don't forget to Vote!

My mother and I did the Absentee Ballot last week. So happy we got it done early. I can't wait for this all to be over, so tired of all the campaign ads.

Carol, I know what you mean about the election in FL for Governor. I will be honest with you, and I try not to talk politics, but Rick Scott needs to be out. I know the other choice is not great but....
I always loved Bill Nelson too.. I know he is up in years, but I really respect that man. Enough said with politics.

Getting ready for Day 2 of my Challenge. And I will also do an Express Cardio Workout.

I have been looking at some fun races, Turkey Trot and Jingle Bell.
There is an 8K Turkey Trot in the Ridgewood area and a 5 K in Wake Forest.
Jingle Bell I think is Dec. 3 for the arthritis foundation. When I find all the links I will post..

I am going to check out Fitness Connection at N. Hills. I think I will have to start treadmill running. I just can't push myself out the door. I want to sign up for Rock N Roll Marathon in April and training is in the winter months..

Wishing all a Great Day!

I am writing in the middle of the night because I slept 4 hours, then awake for 1 hour, so got up. Would be reading but I can get on internet easier at this hour than during day and evening.
Went to podiatrist on Monday and go to dentist on Wed. Today is Election Day and very important to vote for governor. Neither one is any good so hard to choose the lesser of two evils.
.
Have a good day everyone!

Didn't walk this morning because temp was about 50. Thot I would go later in day, but had so many phone calls coming in and some I had to make, then app't. with podiatrist at 2:30 in Sebring, at least 25 miles away. Then got groceries and now my eyes are burning and tired and I'm off to bed. Internet is slow so can't Spark as much as I would like.
Back to the 80's tomorrow so I'll get to the pool.

Good Morning Team! emoticon Happy Monday!

I actual slept emoticon this morning and woke up after 6:30 am to see it light outside and 30 degrees.
It is just too cold here for me. I have a sinus headache. Took some meds and now enjoying my coffee. emoticon

I see our temps will gradually get back up to the 70's. I need to look at weather and plan out my week. I have always been use to running first thing in the morning, may need to change that to 2:30 pm. It is so easy to find excuses.

I am starting my 60 Day U Challenge. I usually wear running shorts to exercise in but I have on my long stretchy leggings. Even my running nylon leggings are too cold to wear.

Got to get this body in motion!

Have a Great Day!

Hi Carol, I missed Joel this morning. I get his e-mails, maybe I can get todays service online. I do love his jokes he starts out with.

WOW! I am just so amazed with the quality cooking you do.
I woke early and just was dragging all day. I have a pot of chili cooking and plan to cook sautéed Organic Chicken in Coconut Oil.

Carol, it was low 30's here. I just could not push myself out the door for a run. It will get warmer and hope to get out Tuesday. I am feeling better but so afraid of reoccurrence. That has happened to many people I know.

Get some rest. Sounds like you could use it with all the busy stuff you have going on.

Have a Great Evening!

Couldn't get online last night and anyhow I was toooo tired to do much. We really kept busy at that Spaghetti Dinner which was delicious. Of course it is all old folks doing all this work, but those who attended (well over 200) were impressed with this homemade sauce and meatballs. Did I tell you one couple went to Plant City and actually picked the tomatoes, made the sauce, and canned about 60 quarts of it several months ago? then made the meatballs, browned them, then froze. Baked goods were made by church members.
We went to bed by 8 PM, just after getting home and did not get up until 6:30 on new time.
then off to church this morn.
Sharon, did you hear Joel this morning? Chuck and I are still laughing at the funny joke he told in the beginning.
5:40 PM and sun is going down. Hard to get used to dinner in the dark, but I like early sunrise to get out and walk - if it isn't too cold!
Get your week off to a good start, Teammates!!!

Good Morning Team! Happy Sunday!

It is really freezing here in Raleigh, NC. But then I saw temps in my old hometown of Safety Harbor, FL and yikes, they got freezing temps too. Unusual weather we are having.

I did not sleep my extra hour so hopefully I will tonight. I am rearranging furniture and trying to get organized. It has been hard moving into my mother's house that was so full with my full house load too. After 4 years, I still have things in boxes in one of the bedrooms. Her house is older home with no storage. I have been getting shelving units which has been making it a little easier for organization.

I am ready to do some Cardio Workouts and Shoulders & Arms Weight Training that I missed during the week. I hope to get out early afternoon to go for a run in memory of Brooklyn for a friend Running NYC Marathon this morning..

Wishing all a Wonderful Sunday!

emoticon Good Morning! Happy November 1st!! emoticon

Carol, WOW, you are sure a busy person.. Lots going on in FL. I admire you with all the baking you do and how you are able to keep control on your Sweet Challenge.

The rain woke me this morning. emoticon I guess this is another wave of expected cold front moving in. Sunday temps are expected in the 30's.. I really need to push myself to get to Lowes so I can find some protective items for my garden. I saw some great ideas on creating a Greenhouse cover for it. I need to pull out some dead plants and really weed things out getting ready for winter. I was hoping to plant a winter crop of lettuce and spinach etc.. All Organic.

I have friends Running in the NYC Marathon tomorrow and another Spark Friend Running in Indiana.. I can't wait to follow them all during their races..

I am starting to feel better. I am glad I took this time off from running to recover from this sinus cold. Still have some signs of it but I hope the worst is past now.

Got my winter running clothes I ordered and I also ordered my son a couple of running shorts and shirts. The only other thing I can think of is getting a headband and another lightweight colorful jacket.

I am now within my goal and weight range. I guess the real job begins of trying to maintain this, especially during the Holiday's.

Wishing all a Great Day!
