Hey all, can you please add my cousin Ashley to your prayers list.
She is pregnant with twins and really having a hard time.
She was having contractions yesterday and the babies are not due until the end of June.
They are planning on doing a C-Section the end of May.

Sophie the girl is way down in the birth canal and the doctor was able to touch her head and her brother Christopher is on top of her pushing her down more.

She has not yet dilated so hopefully, they can cook a little bit longer!

I think this is the first year ever that we did not do any April Fools jokes. Just not in the mood!

Went to the bank today and goodness, waited in line for 25 minutes, the lady in front of me had a ton of transactions. I was really getting upset. I almost think they should have a limit and make you get back in line again!

So it is April Fool's Day! Who feels like pulling a joke today? My fourth grade students loved it when that day came on a school day.
Temp is down to a high of 75 for the day and house is wide open, sheets and dishtowels are outside on the line and we have much to be done. Ready for a bowl of that good soup I made yesterday. Love soups.

The powers that be have been very closed-mouthed about any details of who and where. They site HIPA rules and such, but I agree, people should be advised so they can avoid areas of high risk. And certainly, if someone is from your park. Did she go to the clubhouse, the pool, any other common areas, and when did she do that? People need to be aware.

I did a fat lot of nothing today. It was so beautiful these last few days but today was cold, cloudy windy and spotty showers. Miserable. I was going to spray for bugs but just stayed inside. We did go over to a neighbor who was celebrating her 90th birthday today! There was a party planned for a few weeks ago but of course, it was canceled. So about 20 of us showed up at the front of her house with posters, flowers, cards, and gifts and we all sang Happy Birthday at a very socially acceptable distance from each other! She was quite surprised!

ME Sounds as though your method of removing gloves was quite accurate. I haven't checked link since daughter showed us.
Both of you better be careful with cat at your feet. Of course I fell over my own feet. I won't go to PT now so rub my knee, exercise it by bending and pretending to be riding a bike.
Chuck did Nicole's chair exercises with me. We did 2 different ones.
I know no official details on lady in park but heard she was off ventilator. Husband is not ill at this time. As residents many feel we should be told the true details but our manager has not done so.
A little produce wagon came into park today and I got a good supply of produce, brought it home and hope I properly washed, rinsed and handled it. He comes every Tuesday but I never patronize him because I'm not out of water aerobics at that time.
We used to have a big truck and man was here all day and I bought lots from him.
Time to get ready for bed. Talk later.

Those Orange Boys are the best, aren't they?! Looks like our two could be brothers. Bodie drives me crazy at times. I have a touch screen monitor and he will lay in front of it and randomly touch the screen with his paw. And WHAMO! Everything changes!
But he is a sweet boy. Loves to cuddle and lets me carry him on my shoulder like a baby being burped! I'm getting a little sore. I took some Ibuprophine and I don't want to start those SP exercises until I know how sore I am from the topple. I need to distinguish what hurts and why!

And Edith just heard on Fox News that masks ARE effective. Go figure!

Is that how she taught you or is there another way? I got the first part, that pinching maneuver, wrong, but otherwise I was pretty much on target!

And I am noticing that I need to get moving in an exercising kind of way. I miss the pool! I got back on SP and looked up their band and chair videos and will start to do them today.

And this morning I got "toppled" by Bodie. I was just leaving the bedroom and he came flying in at breakneck speed to use the cat door to go on the screen porch. He ran right through my feet and got tangled and I went flying! I went down on my left hip, side of the knee and the ankle. Maybe a bit of the shoulder hit the wall? There is a small hallway going into the bedroom and it didn't give me much room to sprawl out! He stopped dead and wide-eyed we just stared eat each other for a bit. When he saw me moving I guess he figured he was no longer needed so he fled out the cat door! I had seen a video about getting up after a fall several years ago and fortunately, just a few weeks ago I watched it again. Using one of the methods, I butt scooted over to the cedar chest and using my elbows, I was able to get myself up without a problem. We should all probably watch and take to heart the video.

Fortunately, I wasn't hurt and am barely sore, but I suppose that could change by tomorrow morning, but so far so good.

I guess I need to youtube glove removal. I have been taking them off by turning them from the top of the wrist, basically inside out so the outside is contained inside after removal. I then dispose of them in the litter bag and empty the litter bag in the garage when I get home. I hope that is even close to the right way!

Is the woman the carrier or did she get it from the husband?

I have had NO contact with the people and don't know them. Did I tell you the woman is in hospital on ventilator. Of course, I get all info second-hand so don't know all details.
Daughter just face-timed us to give demonstration of how to remove gloves properly. She had a teaching demonstration today for cafeteria workers in Columbus schools. Amazing what is done with technology.

Well, I certainly hope that knowing his travel history he self quarantined. Did you have any real contact with him or the wife? Holy cow! And your park is a senior one, isn't it? Makes you want to smack somebody! Towards the beginning of the outbreak, but when everybody was fully aware of the symptoms and the severity there was a Millenial concert here in Raleigh and some knucklehead Millenial WHO WAS SYMPTOMANIC went to the concert and was dancing among the thousands of participants for 4 HOURS! No telling how many he infected! People just don't use their heads. All you can do Carol is just avoid any contact at all. A friend learned I had 2 boxes of books that I purged. By prearrangement, she came to the storm door. I held up the books and she decided yes or no on several of them. Then she stepped away and waited on the driveway. I opened the door and left them on the bench and went back inside. She got the books and all was good. I realized though that I probably should have washed my hands before I touched the books. I will do better next time.

And don't forget Carol, you had all those Spring Break nut jobs descending upon you from all over the country, many from the west coast and the NY area where cases are really high. And I just read this article from the N&O. Some contractor went into the health services building WHILE HE WAS SYMPTOMATIC and exposed at least 16 others! And no telling how many those 16, if positive, have infected!

Morning headline in our paper: Will Florida be the next epicenter for Corona Virus?
Probably will be since people from other states are escaping to FL because we did have fewer cases. Such a sad situation everywhere.

Carol, these masks are being made at the request of Transitions (Hospice). Obviously they are not the N95's! Not sure how they will be used. Maybe just for low-level deterrent of germs? Or maybe for the patients themselves or the family members visiting? Not really sure. I do know that we are including several coffee filters cut to fit so they can be changed. And usually, the N95's cannot be reused but I just read this morning that Duke has found a way to sanitize them for reuse the same way they sanitize instruments with some kind of Hydrogen treatment. That should be a HUGE help in the hospitals. Tonight I finished 100 filters. I hope however they are going to be used it is not an exercise of busy work!

Great that you can help, ME. Thought masks had to be N95 to really work. We have one but I can't remember if you can wear it a 2nd time. I think not.
And I found little pkg. Latex gloves might have one removed. My phone had alert today saying anyone over age 65 should not go out. Won't go until April 3rd when Chuck has eye appointment and I have to drive him home. I'll be like Lei and stay in car.
Talk later, Carol

I agree that some treatments just have to be given. I called about my infusion (it lowers your resistance) and I was told all is on schedule at this point. The only thing stopping it would be if I had any infections or fever. And I certainly wouldn't be going out in this day and age with anything like that!

I'm glad they let you in at BJ's. Poor Leilani though had to sit in the car! I am still good on TP. I had 20 rolls before this even started. I usually get a big 48 roll pack at Costco or BJ's so I wasn't panicking. And I found out that my across the street neighbor was totally unaware that she had a stash of several big packs. She said she seldom goes to the warehouse stores so when she does she always buys TP. She's my ace in the hole should I run out!

I finished the screen porch today, even wiping down all the furniture. I can't believe how much cat hair was hiding God only knows where! But it's all clean and waiting for the new rocker to arrive from Cracker Barrel. I'm sure Bodie is wondering where the heck his rocker is! I also hosed down the front porch from all the pollen. I was amazed that when I went out there a few hours later, any spots that hadn't dried out yet were full of pollen! So glad it's not all over the screen porch anymore. It took me days to get everything cleaned up before I had it enclosed.

Tomorrow is going to be strange. No Mass, no IHOP breakfast afterward, no socializing. I have been enjoying sleeping in though. I was used to getting up early for Mass and the pool. This morning I slept till 8am! I watched a Mass online in my jammies! Couldn't do that in person!

Carol, my Mom got her shot in her eyes on Monday. They had very few patients there and they took her right away. This is something that they can't stop! She goes again in 7 weeks because her eyes are doing better, thank God!

I can't wait to see what I look like by May 1st. My hair is already long and I will be gray!
ME I am glad you are able to help out! I have been calling my Sunday School families to see how my kids are and I mailed some books from Ebay to a family with two girls in my class. They love to read and I figure this is a good time for them to get some new stuff.

I also sent Theo a book on How to Chase a Dinosaur which he loved. His Mom sent me a video of him thanking me for the book.

So I am trying to do something from far away.

This morning I went to BJ's for the Senior hour because I thought people with conditions were included in that. The lady at the door asked me how old I was and I told her 58 but that I had asthma and I thought I could go in early. She said well, I have asthma so I know what it is like, you can enter but the teenager has to stay out.

So I got the microwave my Mom wanted and a bag of fish. They had toilet paper and people were running for it. When I was done the line outside for the 9 am opening was all the way down the sidewalk.

Today was interesting.4 of us from our Prayer Group agreed to meet at the Church this morning to say the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross. We figured it would be the last time in a while that we'd see each other. I came home and finished doing the floor of the screen porch. I still haven't moved any furniture as I figure I will wash it all down before I set it back in place. I will try to get that done tomorrow.

Earlier in the week, we heard through the Village grapevine that Hospice was in need of masks. The Senior Center would provide fabric and a pattern. (We are in need of 1/4 inch elastic) and those who sew got to work. We donated more fabric and they use coffee filters as a filtering medium. I have at least 150 filters on hand I offered to do what they needed. I separated each one and pressed it flat. I fashioned a cardboard template 4X7" and traced t on each filter then I cut them out. I did 50 of them and it took me way longer than I thought. Of course, that was getting the template drawn and cut out. We have a "courier service" (that is actually a Villager who loves to walk!) who we text to advise that we have something to be delivered to another Villager and she will pick up the parcel from the porch and deliver it to the porch of the recipient! That's how my filters got to the "manufacturing house"! When Hospice found out that we had 77 masks done already they were thrilled. They asked if anyone had any extra gloves. I had previously spread the word that I had 2 boxes and would be willing to share so I was called and gave up the one box that I had already been using. It was almost full, so they got a good deal. I kept the full box for myself and others in the Village who may be in need. As I was doing that I kind of felt like the scenes in the old movies where young and old ladies gather in the living room and "roll bandages" for the soldiers in the war! Everybody does their part, however small! And I just saw that the "stay at home" order goes through April 29th! I had no idea it was going to be that long. I guess we need to hunker down.

Hi All, Boy, I keep busy but isn't life boring? I'm already fretting over Chuck's necessary trip to eye doctor next Friday. I have to go so I can drive him home but I will stay in car. Won't go into office. Would feel so much better if we had package of latex gloves. Must check all boxes I brought from NC.
Sharon, I cannot even take fish oil as it gives me stomach cramps and serious diarrhea. I could never take all the oils you take. Maybe that is your problem.
I have even cut out my vitamin as I feel I eat nutritious foods, take calcium and several other things that give me necessary vitamins. We are missing bananas these days so better get back on potassium pills.
Hope to hear more from all others.

Good Morning!!

ME, that video you shared is cute.. I am going to save it and share on FB..
I bet students will be able to get more done with online courses.

My tummy issues started back up again.. I had to make a stop on Tuesday run and many again on Thursday run. I woke around 2 am early Thursday morning sick as can be.. My husband suggested eliminating some supplements I have been taking, so giving that a try.. I had added olive oil supplement and wondering if that maybe too much since I take fish oil and coconut oil. I did sleep through the night last night and so far so good this morning.

I heard on news that NC will be on shut down starting 5 pm.. I can't remember if that is whole state or just certain counties. I know for sure it is Wake County and Durham.. I need to go by post office, target and grocery store for a few items. Other than that, I am set..

Hoping to spend more time out doors in the yard and garden..

Take Care, stay healthy All.

I got about 2/3rd of the porch done. I moved everything to one side, did the floor and just finished moving almost everything over to the other side to tackle the other half of the floor tomorrow. I had an old rocker in the corner that I will leave at the curb for the town cleanup week coming up in April. It was unfinished and I never sealed it. It was looking really grungy. Bodie really loved the rocker, but I went online to Cracker Barrel and ordered a composite wood one that requires no maintenance. I got no delivery estimate on the rocker. I also ordered a chair pad for it that will get here in early April. The other pad I had was as grungy as the rocker! It went straight into the trash can. It's a good feeling to get things accomplished. I hope I don't run out of projects. Several ladies in the Village are making face masks at the request of Human Services. My contribution there will be to cut coffee filters into 4X7 pieces that will get stuffed into the masks as filters. Certainly not the N95 quality but better than nothing for those that may need them.

It's looking to be a beautiful day tomorrow, so Betsy hopefully you can get out and get that weeding done. I'm sure Sharon will be out there weeding her heart out and enjoying every minute of it! Carol, can you even use the pool for individual exercise? I know that the Rex Wellness has closed the pools but they are all indoors. It seems like outdoors might be OK as long as there aren't a lot of people using it at the same time.

Oh, and I got this link from my friend Edith. Interesting information about our groceries and take out food cleaning. Well worth the 20 or so minutes it takes to watch it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjDu

I am giving Leilani one cleaning project per day. She has so much stuff stuffed in places. She cleaned her room from top to bottom and cleaned out some old school papers. I need to work on my closet but I have been working my 9 hour days. Maybe tomorrow since I only have to work for 3 hours.

I hope the weather is a bit sunnier, I would like to get out on the deck and weed my pots and get ready for planting!

Well, here in the Village life continues in the pattern of "new normal". On the NextDoor app, someone put out the practice of putting a stuffed bear in the window that could be seen from the street. That will encourage people to get out and walk or drive with kids to "go on a bear hunt" and find the displayed bears. Pretty cute idea! I have a bear I was saving for Ruby and I put it in the attic window. Easier to see than the front window. I hope it brings cheer to someone out walking around for exercise.

The cleaning lady came yesterday. Another great job. She's a gem!

Today I think I will try to scrub down the concrete screen porch floor. That will entail moving all the furniture from one side to the other That should keep me busy for the day (or longer!)

That canceled trip? Well, my travel partner from Church didn't want to take that $1500.00 hit for canceling so she looked for an alternate trip. It's a Catholic travel agency that books trips to shrines and Cathedrals and the Holy Land and Rome. She found one that seems to work well. We'll be going to shrines in France, Spain and Portugal and including the beach and cemetery in Normandy. I was pushing for one that included Normandy and a nearby Gothic Cathedral of Chartres. We'll be going in May of 2021, God willing, and that the virus goes away by then! We let them know via email last night. We hope to hear from them that it is definite.

Still hibernating but don't accomplish all I want to get done. Cooked meal today and it will last for about 3 meals. Also made deviled eggs and took some to friend. He called from Aldi's to see what I needed. They had no eggs so he stopped at another store and they were $3.99 per dozen. Luckily I had enough without buying more. Heard they did have them in local supermarket but limit of 1 per customer. I'm not out.
Little mall which was in decline last few years is completely closed and I'll bet it won't re-open. Could be nice place to shop, but suppose owner charges high rent.
We're still staying in except for little walks in our resort.

Hello!

Lei will start online on Monday. They took an extra week off for spring break so that the teachers can get everything online and ready. So we shall see!

Life is pretty quiet, and I have to say I am getting plenty of sleep. I have an extra two hours in my day since I don't have to drive to work and back!

I am spending a lot of time in my pj's however!

Things are pretty static here as well. I went to Aldi a while ago and got some grapes and oranges and some bratwurst with an expiration date of September!! (just in case!) Hopefully, it won't come to that!

Betsy, how is Lei liking the online classes? This may change the way our kids learn from now on if it's successful. And it may lead to more homeschoolers in the future.

Carol, how are your seniors doing? Ours seem to be taking things pretty well. No mention of anyone here getting sick, but the MSM has been pretty closed-mouthed about the names of the infected. I guess you never know how some nut jobs might react if they knew who is a carrier.

Sharon, how is your tummy doing? I guess when you have those issues you kind of want to shelter in place! Never wanting too far from a toilet! You were brave to try that run the other day!

On the bright side, I got all my tax stuff together and ran it up to my tax gal. Traffic was a breeze!

Have you seen the Neil Diamond video of his rewrite of Sweet Caroline? Very cute! And here is a link to another cute little bit of entertainment. People are so creative!

Hi, Everyone, Nothing exciting going on in our corner of the world. Every day gets a little more depressing but we are able to keep our heads and spirits up. Actually getting a little caught up on things and looking forward to having time to just read for the fun of it. But that comes after doing Income Tax and emptying some boxes that came in Nov. from NC. I'll make it!!!
Do try to call or text a few people every day - those who might need some encouragement.
Going to start car which hasn't been run in nearly 3 weeks and go 1/2 mile to dumpsters just to give it some exercise. Talk later, Carol

Happy Tuesday! Thank You All for the well wishes . Sunday was the first day of feeling half way descent. I never had a stomach bug last so long.. Please stay healthy all.

Happy you were able to find stuff at BJ's during the Senior shopping. I really think it is great the stores are doing this for the Senior's.. My sister had gone to Costco, and she said the service was great. Long line getting in but she said it moved quick.. They even wiped down the shopping cart etc. The stores are finally putting limits on how much you can purchase..

I got my Lemon Trees outside the other day so they could enjoy the rain. Plan to get Pineapple Plants and other Tropical's out today.. I will be running this morning and hopefully the rest of day, work on setting up my garden. I really need to get that bird netting up. Those Blueberry plants are really looking pretty with all the flowers out now and lots of bee activity.

Betsy, with classes now cancelled, what is happening with all employees? Are you still able to work from home? Are they going to do mass layoffs. Thinking of you..

Wake Tech has cancelled all of my classes through May. Lei is now an online learner!
I was thinking about going to BJ's ME. I will have to wait until after the senior hour!

I am glad everyone is doing okay and happy to hear that you are feeling better Sharon!

Well, I think I am as prepared as I'll ever be! I went to BJ's this morning. They opened an hour earlier for us seniors and it was a great service. When I was there yesterday, they had zero bleach and no disinfectant wipes. Today there was a whole pallet of bleach and quite a large number of wipes. I'm not sure how many they started with as I missed them but saw a woman with what looked like wipes in her cart. I asked her where they were and she said right up at the front when you walk in. Well, I went over there as fast as I could and I got some but there were not many left. I'm not sure what the original quantity was. My goal was to get some eggs. They had, again, a whole big stack of them. I am pretty sure that they held stuff in reserve for the seniors this morning. And what was nice is that there was a limit of 2 but with their large quantity packaging I was able to get 3 dozen. They also had a large quantity of meat. I bought some stew meat that my neighbor was looking for over the weekend. She's thrilled as she's going to make soup with it.

I think I am all prepared now. I went out very early Sunday morning around 8 am to Lidl and Walmart. Not crowded at all. I was running out of toilet paper, so thankful they had the smaller packs of the soft brand at Lidl.. I got two which would equal one large. I went through a lot having been sick with stomach bug/virus.. Of coarse the toilet wipes totally gone. I am so thankful, Sunday was the first day not feeling sick with this stomach virus.. I was also able to get the two Organic Grass-fed Beef packs I had wanted and another packs of Organic Cage Free Eggs. Always took advantage of when they had advertised sales. I always have somewhat kept stocked up on meats, etc. since having lived in FL with Hurricanes and then caring for Mom.. It just wasn't easy getting out to do things like shopping etc.

I think it is great that they have special hours for people age 65 and up.. I do hope with everyone practicing good health safety, that we knock out the spread of this and everything will be OK in a few months vs. a year or more. I really fear our economy now. Having worked in Residential Mortgages and hubby in technology, it is something I will never forget.

I wished we all had known the seriousness of this back in January. From what I have read there were plenty of warnings even back in December. Mom was in hospital twice in December and the last visit in January.. I remember seeing out in the hallways, air filters/ fans, etc..

Strange days we are experiencing! Read in today's paper that in the flu epidemic of 1918, some 50 million people died worldwide, so guess we need to do all we can to stop the spread.
We still haven't gone out of resort and don't plan to.
Has anyone come up with explanation of excessive salt purchases? That one boggles my mind.
Gun purchases also baffled me but guess people expect others to try to steal food they have. Wouldn't that be awful? Some couldn't afford to stock up.
Our daughter is concerned about kids in homes where they don't have food, have abusive parents, and the only safe place for them is school. OH, so much to think about. Pray, pray, pray.

I did an online Mass and then headed out, first to the ATM. I just think having cash on hand now is a good idea. then I filled up the gas tank at BJ's and headed over to the warehouse. I was sure in for a surprise. Carol had warned us about the meat shortage but I was unprepared for what I didn't see! The cases were totally empty! One whole row where paper products should have been was void of anything at all! I picked up some Clorox products...nothing for hands, but I did get a 3 pack of foam disinfectant for doorknobs and handles and such. Easier to spray on foam than a runny liquid. They came 3 to a pack. I will share with some neighbors. I also got some Clorox Tile cleaner. Don't know why! I probably didn't really need it, but if it kills germs and things get dicey, I may be glad I have it. I can't believe I fell into the panic of buying water but I did. I have tons of water in my garage. A leftover habit of being prepared from my California Earthquake days I guess. But it was available so I got 2 packs. One is the little 8 oz bottles, which I really like because they fit into my purse, but in reality, you only need one of those and just fill it from the tap! I only had a few of those left so I figured what the heck! I was really in the hunt for some eggs. Not a single one to be had. Not even EggBeaters. I was told by the nice lady handing out single sheets of wipes (to keep folks from snagging handsful of them I guess!) that the store would open for seniors at 8 am after they restocked for the day and before everyone rushes in. Aldi is doing the same. Walmart starts on Tuesday. I think I'll hit BJ's first as they will have larger packs of them than Aldi. I can always swing over to Aldi on my way home if BJ's is a bust. Once I get those eggs, I should be set for the duration.

Betsy, since you aren't 60 yet, (are you?) if you need anything at Bj's or Aldi let me know and I will see if I can get whatever you need. Let me know. Chances are much better with that early opening.

We also went to church on the web this morning! Very strange!
Lei is working her last shift today.
Sounds like Wake County is getting more serious, they are shutting all salons, gyms and parks. That will be hard on our kids! They are keeping the trails open so you can walk.

Sharon, so sorry about stomach bug. Hope it will go away real soon. You do get an awful lot accomplished in spite of not being up to par.
Glad you are getting bees to pollinate - assume they are honey bees.
Neither Chuck nor I can get down on knees to weed anymore and we must find someone to get our flower beds back in shape. Ironical that our grandson in OH has his own landscaping business and keeps so many yards in great shape, but that doesn't help us in FL. And the sun is really hot right now - way above normal for March.
Must get out to take a little walk before it is too hot. Have a great Sunday, everyone. We listened to church service on TV this morning.

Happy Sunday! I hope you all are staying healthy. Crazy times now with all going on.

I still don't feel so well with this stomach virus. Never had one last so long.. I think it has been a couple of weeks now, since going for my Doctor Appointment... Wish I would lose the weight with it but no,if anything gained some.

I pushed myself to get out for my Virtual Tobacco Road Half Marathon yesterday. Since they cancelled race last Sunday, they are letting us do a virtual run and also deferred our race to next year. With the stomach bug, was not sure if I could do it. Last time running I only made it to mile 3. Well, this time I made it to mile 6, came home for potty break and went back out.. I felt real good running, except for the stomach thing. Took a lot of Pepto Bismol and meds to help some.

Later spent time in the front yard weeding, so much overgrown from last year. I was afraid to weed last year for fear of removing things I planted and forgot where I planted them.. I do need to get back to Lowes for more edging stone to build up my garden. I have worked on the trellises and hope to get them up soon so I can get the bird netting up. Here are some pictures of my Blueberry Plants all flowering and lots of bee activity. I tracked in lots of pollen that I need to clean off the floors. Hopefully it does not upload sideways..

I hope to get out to Lidl and Walmart this morning after my workouts. They both were pretty empty the last time I was there on just about everything. Looking forward to normalcy.

Wouldn't it be rather risky for places to accept used clothing right now?
ME I'm so provoked with Home Depot I am going to shred our new credit card we used for just one purchase. I have receipts showing our charge was $368.36 and statement is charging over $400.00 Never once showed the correct charge.
After spending more than 1 1/2 hours on phone talking to 4 different people, I paid the amount my receipt shows and they told me to go to the store to get it straightened out. I told them it was 20 miles away and with this flu epidemic we don't leave our home.
Someone told me Lowe's is just as bad. We charge on Chris' account there and then pay him.
Anoither Sunday we won't be in church. When will this end???

This shelter in place nonsense is having some positive outcomes, isn't it?! I too have 3 bags of clothes for Salvation Army. I'm no sure if they are taking things or not. They are in the back of the car so if I happen to drive by I can check the status of donations.

I went to Home Depot today to get some Polyurethane to reseal my glider on the front porch. I had only the small paint can and a brush so I used the self-service line. Would you believe that the only way you can scan there is to use the handheld scanner! And then I tried to use my knuckle to indicate that I only wanted a printed receipt and the touch screen would not respond to the knuckle but I needed to touch it with my fingertip! It was so strange under the circumstances. And since I was not using a cart, I decided I didn't need my gloves! I did a lot of eye-rolling!

Lei and I tackled her room yesterday. Tore it apart and cleaned and also went through clothes and boxed the winter sweaters and pulled out the t-shirts!

We will tackle my closet sometime this week. I called Garner Ministries to see if they are taking donations and they have a message up that they will call us back. I will drop off the stuff if I can!

I don't know all the details but hopefully, there will be a check for each of them coming soon. NOt sure how much it will cover for expenses. Hopefully, since they've discovered those 2 drugs seem to "cure" the virus in about 6 days, things will return to normal PDQ. You all know I have food out the wazoo, but tonight I did a take out at a local Mexican Restaurant just to give them some business. And they are dealing with a double whammy. their parking lot is in the middle of some major street renovations so huge machines are parked all over the place! And I gave them a nice tip even though it was a take out. Most of these folks are hanging by a thread. And I think closing down entire states is a bit of an overkill. You just can't come to a screeching halt and expect to recover economically.

My travel partner for the Germany trip and I tackled our refund situation. After several phone calls, long wait times and one disconnect (urrrgh!) I think we are on the road to satisfaction. I talked to one of the major executives of the tour company and she told me to send her an email detailing our situation. They want us to commit to the same trip in 2022, meanwhile, keeping our $6000.00 payment! At my age (going on 72) and with my medical issues, there is no way I can commit to that deal. Even transferring to another trip in 2021 isn't feasible as far as I am concerned. She indicated to me that each case would be considered, and I got the impression that we would get our entire payment back. We'll see when they start looking at the appeals I guess.

I hope everyone is still doing OK. I've not heard of any major social breakdowns, so that's a good thing. We all need to keep our cool and this too shall end!

ME

PS the terms they were offering wouldn't allow booking for another trip in 2020, so that original plan was quickly discarded when I re-read the cancellation email.

Things get sadder every day. Our granddaughter who just got established in several self-employment jobs and is now unemployed couldn't even get into the unemployment website as it crashed several times. Her significant other was laid off recently also. Who will pay the rent???

ME, I was actually on vacation yesterday because Lei is on spring break and originally we were going to do something.

I went to Target early this morning and they had toilet paper and tissues in so I picked up a package of each!

Some people are crazy they went running through the store and filled the shopping carts with toilet paper. I was wondering if the cashier's let them buy that much!

Right now I do have a lot of work because I have to email each student and have them fill out a refund form for the class they are scheduled for.

Lei was laid off last night. The coffee shop laid off 70% of the staff. She is really sad because she really loved working. I told her that this will end and she will be able to work again.

Yes, we have insurance but the contract states that any changes incur the $1500.00 charge. My hope is that we'll schedule something departing very very soon and the tour company will have to cancel the trip because of the ongoing virus, and then they have to refund the full amount! We'd obviously change destinations, and if the new trip is still a go then we'll gladly go, And the trip I am looking at is about $2K LESS than the one that canceled. We'll see what we can work out. Keeping our fingers crossed!

And BTW, I'll never book with that company again, even if my plan works!

Well, we got an email and we have three choices. 1) Rebook for 2022 at no extra cost (didn't mention if the price goes down!), 2) Put all credits to another offering or 3) cancel outright but take a hit of $1500.00! That leaves me pretty disgusted! I am going to do some research and see what other companies are offering.

ME, that salt hoarding baffles my mind. One box lasts us for many years. Is salt used in explosives? Our friend went to Aldi's and got a few things for me which I could have lived without but he said the store was fairly empty of merchandise but lots of customers.
Got Marinara Sauce, whole wheat bread, loose sausage, Almond Milk and Creamer, everything I asked for.
ME, years ago I knew people who went to Oberammergau (sp?) to the Passion Play and then to the one in Eureka Springs and liked the latter better. We saw it years ago and was marvelous.

Well, they just canceled my trip to Germany for the Passion Play in June. It won't be performed again until 2022. God knows what will happen between now and then!

Interesting that in Ohio meat is being bought out. I haven't noticed any shortage here, but my freezer is so full I probably haven't really been looking there much. Except for the sanitizer stuff and paper goods, everything else seems to be available though not in huge quantities. One guy ahead of me at Aldi the other day had 6 items. Every one of them was a box of salt!! The cashier was puzzled and asked him about it. He said that he uses a lot of salt and found that he was out of it. But 6 boxes? I looked the next time I was in there and sure enough, Aldi had not a single box of salt on the shelf! The guy must have come back and cleaned them out!! I can't imagine what he might have been planning!

Our Neighborhood Watch kicked into gear and the area reps called each family in our group to check on them. All is well here in the Village. We have 3 volunteers who will run errands, shop and assist with transportation. One is even able to accommodate someone wheelchair-bound. The Village is a great place to live! And Moonrunners has curbside pickup and delivery options! They have the BEST ribs and onion rings! They are the favorite destination of the Village Singles! Good burgers too!

So, Carol, you've got the room finished! What a good feeling that must be! Sharon, good planning on that garden. You may need it to sustain yourselves if this goes on like they are hinting! What you really need is your own grass-fed cow!! And Betsy, hows the workload coming? You didn't mention what time you went to Food Lion. If it was earlier today, that tells me you had time enough to run over there. Not a good thing if you are hoping to have enough work to keep you busy.

Food Lion was pretty wiped out today.
I got two hamburger meats but they were 70/30
They had chicken and I bought an expensive piece of a chuck roast for Sunday dinner.

No paper goods at all on the shelves, no eggs. Aldi's seemed to have more stuff, bought a lot of fruit.

Stores had people shopping but it wasn't anything insane. We used our Clorox wipes on the cart and used antibacterial on our hands.

Love to hear about your gardening, Sharon. I also thought cedar was rot resistant. I do know redwood is as our picnic table we bought 60 years ago is still in very good condition. It is now at Lake House and gets almost no sun.
Glad you found meat as our son in northern OH was told there is no meat to be found in any store.
Using old washer in new room for first time. Better go check on it.

Good Morning!! Happy Thursday!

I had to laugh at your pun ME... Glad you are self quarantining..
Hopefully you will have more work at home Betsy.
Carol, Glad you are out in the Sunshine!! I heard temps are really warm right now in FL.. Enjoy!

I had a couple of doctor appointments next week, that I decided to reschedule.. I am still keeping my GI appointment at Duke next month. Hopefully, this virus will be under control by then.

I got out to Lidl and Walmart yesterday, early morning. Lidl had my Organic Grass-fed Beef on sale. They usual limit to 4 quantity. Well, during this panic, it is now limited to two.. Darn. I usually keep stocked up.. I guess I will go back Sunday and see if they have any left, so I can buy the other two.

I have been fixing my trellises for my Organic Garden. Putting screws in them to hold better then the thin wire staples they use. I use the trellises as the frame work for my garden to hold up the bird netting. I am also replacing the cedar wood raised part of my garden with edging stone. The wood rotted and looks like it got bug infested. I thought cedar, was resistant to that?? I already planted Romaine lettuce seedlings I had started in doors. Hope to get the Organic Spinach and Ruffle lettuce out soon. I am also trying to grow Organic Egg Plant this year.. So excited since I have a hard time finding it at the grocery stores.

Liked all your posts. We take a daily ride in golf cart to take trash to dumpster, sit in sun for few minutes, and still have plenty to do. I never get done and now need to line up Income tax. AARP who has done mine free for a number of years can't do it as Library is closed and that is where they set up shop.
Son in northern OH said there is no meat to be found in any store. Luckily he doesn't need it.
Finally, our construction has come to an end with new toilet and utility sink put in place today. Now to find tp to use down there. LOL
The original laundry room needs to be completely emptied and Chris will return to insulate and put up paneling.
Now must search for storage furniture for FL room.

I went to the Duke office over by Southpoint. Greeted through the sliding doors by 3 employees and a 6 ft table. They asked all the pertinent questions and apparently I answered them correctly as they gave me a little green sticker and let me pass to the elevators. After checking in I went to sit down only to be faced with multiple chairs being designated as apparently too close for personal space violations! Doc and I elbowed each other but he did the exam without gloves. Even chuckled at the irony! I canceled my dental appointment as the ADA recommended no dental work unless of an emergency nature. This was just for cleaning so we reschedule. I saw a site that I found most interesting and helped me come to the conclusion that like Carol, I will more or less self-quarantine. I have plenty to keep me busy and nothing on the calendar that hasn't already been canceled so I will dig in and talk to neighbors that are out walking but from a safe distance. Here's the link...

I stopped at Aldi after my Dr. visit. I needed cabbage as my guests inhaled it yesterday and I still have some corned beef left! Anyway, they are limiting paper products to 2 per customer and everything else in the store to no more than 4 per person. That's the first limitation I've seen in any store. Makes sense. I have 20 rolls of TP and numerous boxes of Puffs facial tissues. So I should be good to go (pun intended!!).

Sharon, sorry you got that bug. Our daughter in OH got intestinal bug that lasted about 6 days. Just when she thought it was over, it flared up again. Remember the BRAT diet.

Carol, So Happy you and Chuck got out for some PT and Fitness. I also carry wet wipes wherever I go including my Running Belt.. Sure does come in handy and not so messy.. Be safe..
I picked up my scripts at Target early yesterday. Not crowded at all..
I hope to get out for easy run this morning. I have been suffering from a stomach bug this past week. Hopefully it is on the way out. Never had one last this long..
Wishing all good health.

ME Heavens No! As you said, we each have to make our own decisions.
And this morning, bright and early, we went the two miles into little town of Frostproof and I had PT while Chuck did his exercise on equipment.
I liked someone's idea of keeping the wet one for cleaning hands, etc. and opening door knobs with it. Worked well.
I'm headed out to sunshine as they say that is excellent thing to do.

Oh, Carol! Please don't think that I was poking at you for staying out of the thick of things! We all deal with things each in her own way. Don't forget, I am the one who ziplined over Victoria Gorge from Zambia to Zimbabwe and walked with the lions! I am pretty fearless! I guess I figure if I take precautions I should be fine. Living here in the Village among all of us older folks, we all have made our decisions about how to go about things in this time of pandemic. And believe me, if things get a lot worse my ways will most certainly be re-evaluated! I just got a confirmation of my appointment with the Duke doc. so I will head to Durham, which may be safer than Wake County as they have way fewer cases than we do! Stay healthy and safe!

Good Morning!! Happy Monday!

Sounds like you all are prepared.. Be safe.. Thinking of you all.

I am so happy I have a free week.. I am hoping to spend that time in my Garden and doing neglected things around the house that I never had time for.. I was able to find all the sold out items I was looking for when shopping very early yesterday morning. All I have now is to run to Target to pick up my Scripts.

I have not even started going through my mother's things yet. I am still in disbelief that she has passed.

Thanks for the recipe for hand sanitizer, ME..

Glad you have a good week planned and am sure it will work well for you. We are kind of in our own little corner of the world and feel better staying put. Chuck is pushing 88 and I'm not far behind. Our daughter, the nurse who worked in infectious diseases at OSU for 10 years, advises us on do's and don'ts so we had better heed her advice.
We're all in this together. Pray for the best.

You ask how we can get the week off to a good start? Well, tomorrow I am going to Moonrunners with the singles for lunch. Then I am coming home to make a coconut custard pie, for which I have tinted my coconut green! I will also cook my 6.75-pound corned beef so that I can get the jump on cooking for the people I plan on entertaining for St. Patrick's day! Life goes on. I plan on being as "clean" as I can possibly be and to enjoy my friends and living life!

I have an appointment on Wednesday with the Rheumatologist at Duke since they think I may have Sjogren's (I have been tested a few times before and always came out negative), so maybe I'll ask him about my arthritic thumbs while I am seeing him! I also have a dental appointment on Thursday. As of now, I am planning on keeping both appointments. I've waited 3 months for the Duke one, so I'm certainly not canceling it! I guess the dentist may cancel himself, but really, they are usually masked anyway, so it's probably not necessary to stop seeing patients. I want to be cautious but not hermit-like in facing this thing. And hopefully, the offices will have sanitizer so I can use theirs and not my own! How's that for good planning! I also saw a hint about Walmart. Use their wipe for your cart but don't throw it away. Use it to open freezer doors and hard surfaces that you may touch. And maybe wipe your purse as well, as I'm sure they are all totally covered in microscopic gunk!

In my search for sanitizer, I saw a video about making your own wipes. You cut a roll of paper towels in half and pour your solution over it and let it soak in. Remove the core after it's totally soaked through and pull the sheets from the inside. Instead of spraying your solution and getting the overspray all over your clothes, maybe you could pour it over the paper towels and that spray wouldn't be airborne. Just a thought.

Stay healthy!

Note to ME Thanks for recipe. I had glycerin on hand for long time, never used it and think I pitched it. I have two bottles (not large) of hand sanitizer and since they are older I think I will add fresh alcohol to each bottle to make sure it is more active.
And since I have two new bottles of Clorox Spray, I will use paper towels and wet with the spray in place of Clorox Wipes.
We always manage to get Clorox Spray on our clothes so quit using it years ago. Will be very careful!
Don't have gloves but not planning to go anywhere. Cancelling PT and dental appointments for this week.
How can we get our week off to a good start???

Just looked it up. Witch Hazel is NOT a disinfectant, so not to be used for making your won sanitizer. Good for bug bites and minor scrapes, but not a sanitizer.

Carol, I am happy to share my "recipe" for hand sanitizer. There are many online but most if not all call for ingredients that are now unattainable. If you have rubbing alcohol on hand that's a good start. They want the finished product to be somewhere in the 70% alcohol range to be effective. Most alcohol you have on hand will be 70%, to begin with. I have 70%. I found a site that told me how to convert the 70% with other ingredients to bring it to the desired range. That's the "recipe" I will be using. Now, for the unattainable ingredient. Most recommend aloe vera. You may be lucky enough to have some of that on hand for sunburn. I did not. An acceptable substitute for that is Vegetable Glycerine. I went to Amazon and the Aloe Vera was going to take more delivery time than the glycerine, so I ordered that. When it arrived the cap was broken and it was leaking!! But I am soldiering on, despite that calamity! Here is the recipe I am going to follow.

1 1/3 cups 70% rubbing alcohol
1T Hydrogen Peroxide
1 tsp. Vegetable Glycerine
several drops of essential oils (optional) I have lavender. Should smell nice

Put all ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine. The Glycerine is thick and slimy so stir it well. Transfer to your small bottles. It can be sprayed or squirted. Be sure to label any unmarked containers with the contents.

Aloe Vera is thicker than the glycerine, so it is more of a gel than a spray or thin solution if you end up using a recipe using that.

If you do have aloe, there are lots of recipes out there but you will still need the alcohol. I read somewhere that Witch Hazel is a good substitute for alcohol. (not sure where. I will have to Google it and see what comes up) I found a small bottle of that at Dollar Tree this morning. Sitting all alone on a shelf, so I snagged it!! I may not need it but I have it just in case!

I hate that the MSM is really causing a panic. We went to IHOP this morning after Mass (yes, we did have Mass. Fr. David felt there was not enough time to advise everyone so he used that as an excuse! We had about 25 in attendance.) Normally there is a wait and usually, by the time we leave people are standing out the door waiting to be seated. Today three were walking in as we left and they were immediately seated. Traffic was almost nonexistent. Folks, this is destroying our economy! Take the necessary precautions but continue to live your life! Don't take unnecessary chances. Stay home and clean your closets, organize your "junk drawer", go through your email and online photos. Delete what's not needed. Read a book. Use the time to get things done you never have time for, but don't hibernate over this! Check on your neighbors and help them if you can. Just avoid the panic mode!

I am hoping to get a few more items this morning that were sold at the other day and I have to pick up my scripts at Target. I saw Walmart is reducing it's hours for the 24 hour stores.

I always keep supplied up but just now running low on bacon, eggs and boneless chicken and my refill prescripts are waiting for me. I maybe skipping run this morning to get early start..

I don't use hand sanitizer, I use antibacterial soap but I do have wet wipes I always carry with me, etc.

Best to be prepared.. My son is staying put in Denver. Hopefully this mess will clear up by Easter..

Take care and stay healthy.

OMG! I would like to have conversations with you all. So much running through my brain.
ME Please share your recipe for hand sanitizer as I'm wondering if mine is still killing germs.
Lots of colleges told students to pack and go home for the summer. Can you imagine dorms full of sick kids?
Not going to church tomorrow and daughter thinks we should not even go to friend's house for Bible Study in evening as she says people can be carrying the germ, have no signs of illness and pass germ to others.
Spark friend from Canada said her son, a pilot, took a 200 passenger (I think) Dreamliner to Spain the other day with 45 aboard and came home with a "heavy" load. All seats taken.
I believe article in Washington Post that stated germ came from plant in Wuhan that produces "germ-warefare". That is why Chinese fled in large numbers immediately.
Now China is saying the Americans brought it to China.
They know they have destroyed so many things especially in US and we wonder when or if our country will bounce back.

My classes are all 1-day seated classes that have been totally cancelled. I have to issue refunds or transfers to all of those students. I hope it is truly over in 3 weeks.

L's classes were all seated classes that have now turned into online classes. The school has switched gears in almost an instance! She is on spring break this week and then does online after spring break.

The stores were crazy today! I can't believe the stuff people are buying, it makes no sense at all.

This is crazy! I don't know if I buy into all the hype but then again, you're afraid NOT to! A bunch of us went to the fish fry at Church tonight. Last week it was bursting at the seams. Tonight? barely 1/4 full. Lots of empty tables. They aren't sure if they will have it again next week or not. I do admit, I have worn nitrile gloves about the past 4 times I've gone shopping. And I wiped the areas of the pew I was sitting in both this morning and tonight for services. And boy, was that wipe dirty! I have washed my hands more this past week than in a month of Sundays! I do have an extra 3 months of my thyroid med, and stuff to make hand sanitizer if I run out so does that qualify me as being paranoid about it? Not sure. I bought tickets for a show at the local theater for next Wednesday night. Reserved seating and from the looks of it there won't be many people there. The singles are going to Moonrunners for lunch on Monday and I have no fears there. I almost want to go out to eat just to support the local restaurants as I know so many are suffering. Maybe the likes of DoorDash and GrubHub will keep them afloat?

Did L have the option to take her classes online to begin with or was the school able to switch gears that quickly? I'm glad she won't be losing any classes or possible credits. Those 10 classes you canceled, Betsy...what will happen to those students or are they being offered online as well? I wonder how American Citizens are going to get home from overseas if no more flights are being offered? I saw a meme with the picture of a cruise ship. The caption was "Special offer...Buy 1 week and get 2 weeks free!" I think it's Princess lines that has halted the next 2 months of all cruises! Where does that leave their staff? Many of whom are from the Philipines and other foreign countries? How are they getting home and on whose dime? Yes indeed, it is quite the mess. It makes you wonder if this wasn't a calculated move on the part of China to bring about world chaos. If it was, it's certainly succeeding!
