Thanks for nice blog, Sharon.
We are signed up in our county for vaccination, but we have very large county and might have to travel a bit, but tonight a friend called and said he and wife are getting right here in Frostproof and just a few days after signing up. So we are going early tomorrow morning - yes, on Saturday. Lots of old people around here so know they will be busy.
Report on this later.

Happy Friday All!!!

Betsy, glad L is feeling better now and has hopefully learned a lesson. Covid is nothing to mess around with.

I agree with you Carol. The flu numbers are definitely down, which is great. I am sure people got their flu shots and by wearing a mask/social distancing has really helped. I have not been sick at all since all this has happened. No colds, sore throat or flu like symptoms. Only issues I have had are digestion. Follow up GI appointment in March. I have a feeling there are certain foods that are the problem. Foods like tomatoes etc. I certainly don't want to hear that since that is something I love and grow Organically.. I also seem to have a sensitivity to Mrs. Dash seasoning? I am going to try to find organic ingredients to make my own.

My husband will have cataract surgery on Tuesday! Yeah! He has put it off for so long since Covid. The 2nd eye will be done early February. It will be so nice for him to see better. I clean up after him all the time figuring he just doesn't see those crumbs, etc. on the kitchen counter.

I got e-mail from Duke University and signed my husband and I up for the Covid shot. Hopefully it won't be too long. I miss my son so much and his31st BD is early Feb. Doubt he should travel then since the numbers are so high right now.

Our 37 year Anniversary is coming up at the end of Month. Plan to buy something special for dinner to celebrate.

Still trying to work off 5 lbs. gained over the past few years. With all the fitness I do, I just can't believe how hard it is.

Gosh yes, not sure what I would do without it! She is young, maybe after some more life experiences, she will have a change of heart. I pray for her every night and we pray at dinner.

Interesting blog, Betsy. Good that Lei learned a valuable lesson. So sorry she doesn't believe in God because she won't always have you and your mom to depend on, but God is always there to depend on. That's what has happened to our country, no faith in God, and to think our country was based on religious freedom.
Glad I have my faith to lean on, aren't you?

Leilani learned a hard lesson with Covid because she knew that someone from that group was going for testing and then she still got together with them to exchange gifts. I told her that it was not being smart and she still decided to go. I told her it was in God's hands, and I prayed very hard, but she does not believe in God. She had a real terrible meltdown when her 2nd friend tested positive because she was convinced that my Mom and I would die. I think in the future she will be much more careful. Today was the first day that she could actually hug me and she was very happy.

Life is crazy busy and I still have not taken down the Christmas tree. Maybe this weekend since we are off work on Monday!

There is talk that we will get the shots at work soon because we are part of the education. Work is talking about everyone being back to the campus by summer. I will miss working from home and helping my Mom when she needs it.

Sharon, that is a great blog and I am with you 100%. I'll even go a step further and say wearing masks should probably become the way of the future.
Have you heard of many people getting the flu this winter? I think that is due to wearing masks and diligent hand washing. Maybe more people also got the flu shot.
We are on the list to get vaccine here in our county but don't have a date yet as it depends on when more vaccine arrives. The sooner, the better, but that doesn't take us "off the hook" as we will still continue with all preventative methods.

Hope everyone has week off to a good start.

Good Morning. Happy Monday.

Love those little ones pictures. So much joy. Love all the pictures.. Yummy ME, lots of great cooking.
Betsy, so happy Leilani tested negative. I know the test is only good at that time, she can easily catch it after but, to me that is why they need to do much more testing, especially for people going back to work and essential workers.
I am a supporter on trying to prevent the spread of this virus. Not for fear, but for caring about people around me and myself. It may not be 100%, but it is something. Wearing a mask and social distancing does make sense until we all get vaccinated. Out in California, there are many people who are defiant about wearing a mask. And many people in Florida and many other states. I have said it several times, but even before this virus it use to upset me so much seeing people come in to work sick spreading their germs. No consideration for people around them... It is sad to see people out not even wearing a mask properly... I seen people wear it under their nose. What good is that?
UNC sent me an e-mail, and it looks like for my husband and I, we will be able to get our vaccination sometime in February. Until then, I will continue to wear my masks going out and social distancing.. I prefer to be safe than sorry..

Still trying to work on losing these 5 lbs. gained over the past couple of years. I almost get there and then it creeps back up. would think with all the fitness and running I would be able to manage losing 5 lbs? Oh well.

Have a great week all.

The tests are crazy! They measure that particular moment in time and you could leave the testing site and catch it while you're walking out the door! It proves nothing except that moment in time! And look at how stringent places like California have been about wearing masks and look at how their numbers have skyrocketed. It makes no sense. You see people all over the place touching their masks to adjust them and then touching items on the shelves. It's insanity! When California was having all those forest fires people said that at least they were wearing masks to help with the smoke. They were told that the masks didn't filter out the smoke particles and yet the virus particles are way smaller than smoke particles, so what does it help? As I said, we all have to measure our levels of vulnerability and go from there. If you have co-morbidities like being a smoker or diabetic or getting chemo, then certainly you need to be cautious. but except for the MS (which the specialists say doesn't have any effect on your recovery rate) I am a very healthy person. I haven't even had a cold since way before 2018 when I started having issues with my balance that led to the diagnosis. With a 94.6% recovery rate it's almost as good as the effectiveness of the vaccine, so why would I even think about getting something that as Carol's son said really hasn't been fully tested? Nope! I am going to be part of the control group on that one!! I know I'm in the minority here. The lone voice in the desert so to speak, but I refuse to let my life be governed by fear. As Dennis Prager said in one of his Fireside Chats, "Until it's safe, means never". Nothing is 100% safe. Walking across the street, driving a car, taking a shower all have risks. That's part of life. And now I'll step off my soapbox! Have a good one!

No, my Aunt never had any symptoms. She is out of quarantine and allowed to get her mail!

Lei is very anxious and nervous and I wish I knew how I could help her. I pray that her test is negative but is it really over if it is? I hear that you can be contagious for up to two weeks!

Well, I made it through the holidays just fine. Gained about 8 pounds since October, so I am on the road to taking care of that! Trying to come up with creative ways to combine foods that I need to get out of the fridge! And finding neighbors and friends that are willing to take "care packages" home is a big help as well! Today I took almost all of the Christmas decorations down from outside. I left the 2 wreaths up as well as the plaid pillows on the glider and bench. They are really fine as they don't scream "Christmas" and if I reverse them, they are just black and white plaid, so not Christmas at all.

There were 4 of us for Christmas dinner and three for New Years'. I usually have a rack of lamb for New Years'. Been doing that for way more than 20 years, but since we all want 2021 to be way different than 2021, I decided to change things up. When I was in Argentina and had an extra day because of a botched reservation, I found a cooking class and I learned to make Argentinian Empanadas, which are really good. I found the shells at a new Mexican market I found so we had them along with Albondigas Soup and Mexican Rice and a naturally gluten free cheese roll from Brazil called Pao de Qujiero. We'll see if my plan works to make 2021 more acceptable! Something has to work!

So Betsy, did your Aunt actually have the virus, or was the test one of many false positives? The CRP test is notorious for being inaccurate and it really makes the numbers climb. If she had no symptoms, I suspect she may have been one of many in the false-positive category. Y'all know my feelings about it. Everyone needs to weigh their level of risk but as one of my neighbors said, "If this is my last year on earth I'm not going to spend it holed up in my house in fear! " CDC says my survival rate for my age is 94.6% and I'm going with that!

Tomorrow I go to Duke for my annual MRI scan and face to face with the Neurologist. Hopefully, the lesions won't have progressed. The twice a year infusion that I take is supposed to slow the progression, but it's pretty hard to prove a negative. We'll see what they find.

Betsy, I have neighbors who have the stair chair thing and they love it! And just that addition will make life so much easier for your mom. And I do know the feeling of freedom cleaning out closets can give you. I cleaned my closet out 3 different times during the lockdown and each time I found stuff to eliminate. I can't tell you how many trips I made to the Salvation Army on Tryon! Closets, cupboards, drawers, shelves, nothing escaped me! I felt so empowered! And the best thing for closets is to hang your clothes up from the backside of the rod. When you wear them, hang them back up normally. At the end of the season or year, everything that's still hanging backward gets donated! I finally got rid of my size 8 skinny jeans, as I came to the realization that if I was ever to fit into them again I was probably going to be so sick that I really would not care about how my pants fit!!

Hope you all have a happy and healthy New Year. That's my plan.

You're right! It is all over the place now. I don't even want to go to podiatrist and Aldi's tomorrow. Our daughter gets her shot tomorrow so she can start administering the vaccine.
And our son who works at Retirement Home refused it because he say it isn't proven yet.
His sister and I got on his case today.
The experts preedicted this second wave but people just won't heed the warnings.
Don't think the new year is off to a good start at all.

Leilani had her mask on the entire time. These were friends from the coffee shop that got together to open Christmas gifts.

I pray that she is okay! Her anxiety is really high right now.

My cousin that is the mother of the twins has the virus. They have no idea where she picked it up. So far she is doing okay. Those poor babies had to be tested and her husband.

It seems to be all over the place now!

So nice to hear from you all..

My son did not visit for Christmas this year with the Covid number being up and now another version of it.. First case in US is in Colorado of all things. He told me when flying back on Thanksgiving Day, he couldn't believe all the people not wearing masks at the airport.

Betsy, I hope Lei tests negative. It is scary.. Do they test people regularly at her work or do they just take temperature.. Temperature is so unreliable, especially if people don't have to have symptoms to have this.

I just wish people had taken this more seriously back in the earlier part of the year. Pretty sad with all the lives lost.

Well, need to start my workouts then go early shopping before the crowds.

Have a Fabulous Day

Good to hear from you, Betsy and glad to know you are making progress on the Home Front.
Hope Lei doesn't have any problem with exposure, but she probably won't. Do they wear masks at work?
Sharon, did you get to "see" your son over holiday?
Our county has gone from 300+ positive cases in summer to over 800 now. We just mind our own business and even wear masks when riding in golf cart around resort.
Don't think we will get vaccine until Spring as our very large county doesn't have any plans in place for distribution.
Gotta get on the wagon and lose about 12 extra lbs. Hard to do with so little exercise.
Talk later, Friends.

Sorry, for some reason I have not gotten an email when someone posts!

My Aunt is just fine and out of quarantine. She never had any symptoms.

We had a very nice Christmas and my Brother and SIL helped us clean out a lot. We worked mainly in my father's office. My SIL and I also cleaned out my Mom's closet. We packed up 6 bags of clothes that she doesn't wear since she has lost weight. She was not too happy in the beginning but she got into it with Lei and my Niece Abby encouraging her.

My family went home last Monday and I have been cleaning up and getting rid of stuff since then. It feels good to clean out!

My Mom has decided that she does not want to move and I have to admit that I agree with her because I think it would be too hard for her to adjust at this point in time. We have the staircase chair on order and she told me that we will work on getting the house fixed up.

Leilani is in quarantine and cannot work for two weeks because one of her friends that she works with tested positive. Three of them are out of work due to this. Lei is not showing any symptoms but she is getting tested tomorrow.

She was quite hysterical when she found out because she has anxiety issues, and she is afraid that I will die and not be there for her if I catch it.

I told her that we will be careful and she will wear a mask at all times and gloves if she is touching something but that it is what it is and we will pray that we are all okay.

Back to work on Monday, I am so not ready! It does not feel like I was off for two weeks.

I am sure it will be crazy having to answer all of my emails. My classes start on Tuesday.

Happy New Year!

Betsy

Thanks for well wishes, Sharon.
And I want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR TEAM.
Our resort activities directors were quite clever. Today they had a New Year's Eve Bash - a dance where you dressed in your favorite period dance clothes. It was from 11-AM to 1 PM. Cute little tables and chairs were set up outdoors in semi-circular driveway and sheltered sidewalk. Everyone had to wear mask.
Since kitchen is not used in Clubhouse there was a Food Truck in parking lot. Called The Rolling Gourmet. We didn't go since we stay home and away from people.
It's a gorgeous day here with blue skies and sunshine - 81F.

Nice newsy letter, Sharon. We face-timed with daughter and her family in morning and had Zoom meeting with all three kids in evening. That was fun seeing everyone at same time.
Can't believe how many people traveled in spite of warnings.
Heard today that younger fellow who was on police force with Chuck died of Covid. Hard to believe.
Get ready for that New Year which we hope will be better but it's going to be a long time before things get back to normal. Wondering if next Christmas will see us in better situation. Let's hope and pray.

Happy Sunday!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas considering Covid, etc. I really missed seeing my son, but we did face to face on Face Book Messenger a few times. Next best thing. I remember he did that when mom was alive, she really got a kick out of it. We all giggled because it was our first time. For Christmas, my son and his roommate went to a Colorado Mountain to go snowboarding for the day. He has an annual pass, so they are required to make reservations to keep the number within restrictions during Covid. Of coarse, he said he could not believe how packed it was.. Go figure.

Once, I get Christmas put away after New Years, I plan to work on putting my Cabinet together. I just can't wait for the additional storage in our kitchen. After 1st of year we will also be looking at having a storage building built on the back of our yard. I really want an attached two story garage but that will have to go on future plans. With it being two story I want to add on to the house to make more closet space and maybe an extra bathroom.
Maybe a playroom too. Who knows? Storage Building is immediate need. My hubby and I want to get bikes and need the space and need lots of storage for yard stuff. Also for a lot of the items we had for mom like hospital bed, bedside commode, walkers and wheel chairs. We thought we are getting up there in age so might as well hold onto them. I still have a lot of her meds that are unopened. BP meds, and stomach acid, Lantus in refrigerator etc. I hate throwing stuff like that out since we just bought it last December. barely used.
Expiration is still good.

I met my Sis a couple of days ago for a walk around Shelley Lake. It was so nice to get out.. Most people walking were masked up, which is great. Just no lights in the bathroom but they did have running water, etc.

Got to go!! Enjoy Your Day!

ME, glad everything is going alright. You're lucky to be able to have guests. We have one male friend (widower) who is in and out every day. Don't know what I would do without him as he can fix anything and I depend on him. I often invite him for meals and he often brings meals to us as he did tonight and then I don't have to cook.
He will join us for Christmas dinner which won't be too fancy.
BETSY, I'm concerned because I haven't seen where you posted on blogs where you usually do. How is Anna?
SHARON, sounds like you really need the stand your husband got for you. And have you heard of the terrible mess the mail system is in? Our 3 day Priority box took 10 days to arrive, but that is minor compared to horror photos I have seen. In Columbus, OH, it took one week for a package to go from PO to distribution center on other side of town. They had 75 trucks to be emptied and not enough workers to do the job.
Talk later, Carol

Oh, Carol! How very frustrating. And it happens to you so often. Maybe you need to get into the habit of doing a "copy" before you hit the send button so you save your message and you can just paste it and send it again. It's happened to me several times and sometimes I just want to bang my head on my desk!

Sharon, I know you're going to love that usual purpose pantry/microwave unit! When I built the house in Garner I had the builder remove a bookshelf unit from the hallway into my bedroom and add it into my pantry which backed up to the shelves. That added about 24 inches and 5 shelves to the pantry. What a huge difference it made in the storage of small appliances! One of my better moves!

Betsy, did Anna get the virus? I hope not. And I know you'll love all that time off. I'm glad that Mom is finally realizing the need for single-level living, but purging will be difficult, I'm sure.

Hard to believe but I have nothing on my calendar from now until Dec. 28th except for a visit from the Geeks on Tuesday. And the 28th is an appointment with a Duke Dr. that I think will be turned into a tele-visit to save me from driving to Durham. I have to do that the very next week for another MRI and a visit with the Neurologist, so that's definitely an in-person one. I've already made a Yule Log for dessert, but the recipe is very weird. Looks great, just not sure about the cake itself! It's in the freezer waiting for last-minute decorations. I was going to make my Coconut Custard pie, but Angie has offered her homemade Flan which is delicious, so I'm not sure what we'll do. We could have 2, 4, or 6 people here for dinner, depending on health issues that we all know are lurking everywhere! I have 3 different weight prime rib roasts in the freezer, waiting for the final count! What craziness!

Happy Friday!!!

Prayers for Anna, Betsy. I hope she is recovering well. Enjoy Your time off for the Holiday's. I found out my niece did get Covid and my Brothers Family all had to isolate during Thanksgiving time. I can't believe they are going to FL Disney for Christmas with the three little ones.

Christmas Cards and shopping, mailing out package to my son are finally done. All my medical procedures are done now for the Year including dental and vision. Glad since all these Covid 19 numbers are sky rocketing now.

My husband got me a Beautiful Stand alone Kitchen Pantry/Microwave Stand from Wayfair. Can't wait to put it together. We are lacking in Storage in this house. This certainly will help.

Carol, I hope you have a Wonderful Christmas. I only sent out Cards to Family and very close friends. I think around 21 cards. Does it take a lot of time. I always try to write a note in each card too.

I hope You All have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year..

Busy ladies everywhere. I'm also working on cards, but am so much slower than I used to be.
Got 11 in the mail with 65 or 70 to go. Some stay here in park and just need name and lot #.
think I rounded up just about enough return address labels as I found some in two unexpected places. Better get to bed so I can get early start.
Now 1/2 my message disappeared ?#@$%*
Betsy, get some rest on break
Sharon, goodies look great!
I'm not planning on baking as neighbors aren't here and have no freezer space.

Hi all,
Doing good and trying to wrap up work before my break. Monday is my last day of classes with two classes and then I am done until January 4.

My Mom's sister came up positive today for Covid. Please keep Anna in your prayers.
So far she is not showing any symptoms. A cleaner that works at the retirement home has tested positive and she was my Aunt's cleaner.

What a nice idea - clear lids on the tins. They are beautiful.

ME, I did go to Avery.com and think my labels must be old as they can't come up with a template. Think they are pricey also, but will check again. Thanks

Good Morning!

Carol, if you have Avery labels, you can go to Avery.com and find the number of the label and create a template for printing there at home. Very easy.

Well, all but 6 tins are delivered. One to be gone this morning, and one this afternoon. Three I don't see until after New Years' so they are in the freezer, and the final frozen one is waiting for my former neighbor to return to the area when her new house is finished, probably in late January.

I am almost finished with my Christmas letter. Just have the finishing touches to add. Of course, then there's the printing, the envelopes, and the stamping. I don't have a Chuck to do that, so I'm on my own there!

Busy day today...Mass, BJ's for gas and GF pizza, Dollar tree for more tins and a birthday balloon for one of our Villagers, Aldi for peppers for the pizza, and somewhere around 3 pm Donna and her family are coming by for our Christmas exchange and to eat those pizzas! I really like the tins I got this year. They are square and the lid is a frame with a plastic see-through window, so you get to see the whole array of goodies. They turned out beautifully! I want to be sure I have enough for next year as I'm not sure they will be available again when I want them.

Looking forward to the warmer weather in the forecast for the weekend. I HATE the cold!

That's funny Carol. The same thing at our house, my Mom said I am only sending cards to people that send me a card. Well, they are pouring in and now we have to hop and jump to get them done!

Does Staples or Office Max print labels? Personally, I would just write my last name and not worry about it.

It's Dec. 9th and we started getting Christmas cards with lovely, informative letters that both of us enjoy, and guess what. I decided to send cards as people may think we are dead and gone.
It will be a real race for me to get them sent. Chuck will help seal and stamp. BUT I don't have enough return address labels with FL address. Can't find template like I had on old computer but have many sheets of labels. Oh, dear!
When we lived in small town we could just write our name and zip code and that was efficient.
How many ever get returned anyway?
Suggestions accepted.

Hi All!! Happy Wednesday!!

Happy to hear you all had a nice Thanksgiving. I am finally getting things done for Christmas. My son will not be coming this Christmas. 1st time ever, but with Covid numbers increasing, we all felt like it is best. We will to video chatting on FB instead. I don't go all out with Christmas Decorating since I moved back to NC. I miss having a tree and all, but I do decorate the Fireplace mantel and the table in our entry way. I do love decorating and always have. The only thing I really haven't done is put out the lights. Maybe I should try some just around my doorway? We shall see. This Christmas won't be easy for me since Moms passing. It was always something our family went all out on. I miss her so much. Here is a picture from last year when my Brother and Family came to visit. My mother was not feeling well for family gather over at Sisters house, so people came to our house to visit. I had no idea my Mom would pass way a month later.

Why do we put such pressure on ourselves for the Christmas season? We no longer buy gifts but send grandkids checks. Those who usually get LLBean greenery have all decided they wouldn't have enough guests to see wreaths or centerpieces, etc. so not doing that. A couple opted for a basket of groceries that I know a store near them in PA will deliver. So I'll call tomorrow to line that up. Things are a changin'.

I am in the same boat! I decided NOT to put up a tree this year. First time EVER! I have decorated the outside of the house and it looks great. And nothing requires a ladder or trying to balance myself on a sloping yard. I revised a few things to make it easier on myself. And when folks see the outside done they assume the inside is done as well. Smoke and mirrors! I just don't have the stamina anymore. This MS is working on me big time. I figure I have plenty of stuff to make it festive enough for me and any guests I might have over, and a tree is just way more than I want to tackle putting up and then taking it down again. Hours and hours of work. Nope, I'm done with that! I still have to do the inside, read a book for book club, write and print and mail the Christmas letter, and mail off 2 packages. In the middle of that, I am having painters come in and do the breakfast room, kitchen, and master bath in a gloss or eggshell finish as the flat paint that the builders use is terrible. I know it's a good paint and I love the color but I need something I can wash. Flat doesn't do the job. I think I have more than enough on my plate. Oh, and I forgot putting the tins together and distributing them. Fortunately, both Angie and Jo have agreed to help me with that massive chore. Hopefully, we can get it done in one day with 3 of us working on it. That's the plan anyway!

Yes Carol, I agree. It was nice to see them. My Mom has decided that we need to sell the house and move into a new one because she can't climb the staircase anymore. So when the family comes for Christmas we are going to continue with the cleanout of this house.

My cousin's husband is a realtor so he will help us find something. I have been talking about this for a while so I am glad that she is ready. I have no idea where we will move but I am open to anything closer to work.

Betsy, for the sake of your mother, and actually, for all of you, it was good your brother and wife stayed isolated. Everyone has to be so careful.
How was the apple pie?
Tonight I heated leftover gravy, added some sour cream and cut chicken into it. Chuck enjoyed it more tonight over leftover mashed potatoes and dressing than he did yesterday. Came back for seconds. I enjoyed the sweet potatoes with pecan topping and cranberry sauce on my plate.
Still have more leftovers, but I try to improvise and not discard.
Did you ever make mashed potato soup with leftovers? Haven't made it in years, but so good.
I'm late tonight so better get moving.

And now the big day is nearly over. I tried hard to plan a meal for 3 people but could have easily fed 6. We'll be eating leftovers all week, need to be creative.
Hope everyone had a great day. Glad Sharon got to enjoy son's visit. We just Facetimed with daughter and granddaughter in OH and that's better than nothing. Talked to boys earlier.
Lots to do starting tomorrow. Don't even feel like sending Christmas cards this year, do you?
But love getting them and hearing about growing families. At the rate I move anymore, it will take a long time to get them in mail.

Happy Thanksgiving All!

We enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal last night with my son. I always cook a Turkey Breast, stuffing, buffet green bean casserole, butternut squash, cranberry and mash potatoes, The pumpkin pie was so good too. I sure did not like what the scale said this morning..

Thanks ME and Betsy for your suggestions on converting old film. I will check those places out.. Betsy, enjoy your time off and Thanksgiving. I never knew about a 9 lb. turkey. That is great.

ME, so sorry to hear about your friend Bill. Prayers for his family and friends.
Sounds like some wonderful decorating plans you have.

Carol, sorry to hear about the spread of Covid down your way.. Very scary. I Really hope people will do the right thing to help prevent the spread of this. Glad you are. It still can be months out before there is vaccine available. WOW, I can't even imagine cooking for 20 people.

Well, my son left this morning.. I think he picked a great date in avoiding lots of people. We were a bit scared about him even coming with the increase numbers of Covid.. He had his tickets about 6 months ago. We probably won't see him now until maybe April? It all depends on Covid now.

Take Care.. Happy Thanksgiving!

Cooked chicken breasts and thighs in crockpot today and they look great Used several tablespoons Lipton Onion Soup that was in cupboard and my usual spices: garlic powder, oregano, black pepper and basil. Lots of excellent broth to make gravy.
I'm tired and still need to do more in the morning even though we're not having big meal with lots of guests.
Have a great Thanksgiving, friends.

Happy "prepare ahead" day!

I will be going to Angie's tomorrow to be with her and the family for Thanksgiving. Sadly Bill passed away Monday morning. He's had a multitude of problems these past few years. He flatlined at dialysis a week ago Monday and they put him on a ventilator. Tuesday they removed the vent and moved him to Hospice. Our Thanksgiving gathering will continue, as their son and the families of both grandchildren were planning on being here anyway, so I guess it will be kind of like a wake in some sense.

I have been enlisted to bake a Red Velvet cake for their great-grandson for his birthday, celebrating on Friday. I also will make my coconut custard pie for tomorrow. I found what I hope will be a delicious cream cheese frosting for the cake. It incorporates whipped cream into the regular frosting. I hope it's as good as it sounds and looks!

Betsy's turkey is probably a hen, as they are much smaller and much in demand for the scaled-back celebration mandated by the powers that be. Betsy, you're probably lucky to have found one that small. And Carol, I think if I had an apple and/or an onion lying around, I would add that to the foil packet. It might give a nice flavor to the entire thing.

I will certainly miss putting on the entire meal myself, but I guess there comes a time when you have to face reality and know your limitations! Angie's grandson is quite a good cook. When we were in Hilton Head for Angie's 80th birthday earlier this year, he and I turned out some pretty amazing meals! I guess helping him once again in the kitchen will have to suffice!

Sharon, enjoy the visit with your son. I know they don't happen enough to suit you! Get it while you can!! Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Can't remember ever hearing of 9 lb. turkey.
I'm doing 2 large chicken breasts and boneless, skinless thighs. Think I will place chicken on top of stuffing, wrap in foil and bake. Any suggestions???
Did the sweet potatoes today and they are ready for casserole. Make them small for 3 people.
Was just thinking about the years I taught school right through Wednesday, then had dinner for 22 - 24 people and I did all the cooking.
My husband and kids would do the clean-up. i sure couldn't do that today.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL.

We have a 9-pound turkey and it is just 8 of us together. We are all working from home and have basically been nowhere! Smallest Turkey we have ever bought!

Sounds as though everyone is busy.
ME, I, also am sorry about your friend and his family. Surprised so many are traveling at this time. Had I mentioned our organist at church lost her husband to Covid on Friday and she is positive? Probably in late 60's or early 70's. And now we have it in our resort - at least one case. That lady goes to Bingo somewhere every day and then she exposed 5 more ladies. We just stay home and wear masks when out, even when riding in golf cart.
Finally got the OK to go to pool, but afraid to do that.
We will do a little decorating for Christmas but really don't think our son will be able to come as anticipated.
And we are having chicken for Thanksgiving without a lot of the extras. Keeping it simple.
Sharon, enjoy time with your son. Glad surgery is behind you.
Betsy, enjoy a little time off.

We returned from Hilton Head yesterday. found out on Tuesday that my friend Bill was on a ventilator after he flatlined while on dialysis. They decided to remove the ventilator and he went into Hospice. I picked up their son from the airport today and took him to the Hospice unit. Bill looks like he's just sleeping peacefully. Without the dialysis, it's only a matter of time before he passes. So we will still have Thanksgiving at their house with their family who has arrived after driving from PA. We realize it may turn into a wake, but it was decided that it will go off as planned. Very sad. I've known them for about 15 years and we've played cards weekly and traveled together often. Angie is taking it well, at least so far.

Sharon, there is a place in Apex where you can take slides and old movies of every generation. I took Super 8's to them and they converted them to DVDs and even added music. They are in downtown Apex. They did a great job, and no mailing involved.

I can't wait to decorate the porch for Christmas. I got some darling stuff at TJ Maxx in HH. Last year I got some black and white Buffalo plaid pillows with big red snowflakes on them for the glider and bench on the porch. Last month I was at Carolina Pottery and picked up a lovely long wreath with a huge B&W Buffalo plaid bow. Last week, I found this darling 4 ft. tall gnome with the same plaid big tall hat. Then I went back and found a plaid shelf sitter, a small stuffed Christmas tree, and a wooden block trimmed in the plaid that says Merry Christmas to put on the end table next to the glider. I found a really cool 6 ft. tall decorated street lamp at BJ's and I'm adding a checked bow to that.I think it should be really cute. My front flower bed, which I usually decorate with lighted big candy canes, slopes down pretty steeply and I am not navigating that incline very well these days so I am ditching that tradition. I may just put them around the holly bush on the flat side of the yard. We'll see how that goes. I'm itching to start decorating but I will make myself wait till after Thanksgiving.

HI all,
Sharon I had luck with Legacy Box. It scared me to mail them all in but the outcome was great!

I am glad that you get to spend some time with your son! Enjoy it!

I am off next week and hoping to get some Christmas up inside and out. We are supposed to get new windows downstairs next week so I won't be able to put the tree up yet.

Take care!

Good Morning All!! Happy Sunday!

I will check e-mail Carol.. Our Thanksgiving will be very small too, with just my son. My SIS stopped by the other day so we went out for a walk. My son went with us. Love our small neighborhood park. With all of this Covid19 numbers increasing like wild fire, I doubt he will be coming to visit for Christmas. He flies back early Thanksgiving morning. I hope he will be safe and not get exposed. Thankful he has been very careful too.

Oh Betsy, what an accomplishment on cleaning out your attic.. I look forward in going through years of stuff here once we get our back yard storage built.. Plans are for early next year. My Father has reels of childhood movies up there that I would like to have copied onto a CD for myself, Brother and Sister.. Need to find someone who can do a great job.

I had my final medical procedure and all went well. It felt so good to be able to finally take a shower and wash my hair. Sponge baths are just not the same. While stiches are still in, I was told no baths until my post op follow up.

So wonderful to have my son here. We all were tested and have out family room chairs and loveseat all 6 feet apart. I have been doing indoor walk routine withn Leslie Sansone and walking outdoors. Can't wait to get back to normal Fitness/Running.

Busy, Busy Top, Busy.
And wait until next week. There will just be Chuck and me and our one friend (male) for Thanksgiving dinner. Really don't plan on making all the favorites but is so hard not to do that. I'm the only one who likes fresh cranberry sauce. Our friend does not like anything with sour cream or cream cheese and our favorite mashed potatoes contain both. Then we skip the gravy. I like my own stuffing but Ron says he'll bring Stove Top Stuffing.
At this time I'm not anxious to do a big meal.
Sharon, enjoy visit with son. I'm sending you an email.
Betsy, sure glad you had help cleaning out the attic. One job behind you.

Good morning,
Yes, it looks so beautiful outside! I am getting ready to teach my Zoom Sunday School lesson but I wanted to pop on and ay goo morning!

My Niece, my brother, and I cleaned out more than 30 years of attic accumulation yesterday. What a job! We filled my brother's pickup truck to the top. It looks so much better up there now. My knees are killing me but we did it!

Happy Sunday!! What a Beautiful Morning.. Enjoying my Cinnamon Spice Coffee and trying to plan out my day. Need to start cleaning for my sons visit on Wednesday. He had a Covid test done and I have to have another one done on Monday, prior to final Medical Procedure on Wednesday.

My freezer if very full. Sure miss have a 2nd one. Hopefully sometime in the future we can expand the laundry room and have space for one. We almost had a problem with it. Somehow plastic wrapper got stuck in a grid where the ice maker is. It was making a loud noise like something was stuck and it was not cold. Things were starting to defrost. I was able to pull that plastic out and it is now back to working.. What a relief. I have so much in there with organic meats and seafood. Thanksgiving shopping and hubbies birthday coming up..
I already wrote up a to do list for my cleaning. Need to go. I will do an indoor workout and get started..

ME, have fun with your friend at Hilton Head.
Carol, you all were lucky with that Hurricane.
Betsy, so nice of your company to give you a 25 year service gift.

Sunny and beautiful today. We escaped the wrath of ETA even though Tampa suffered from flooding and we're only about 60 miles from them. Wind was a little strong but rain not excessive. Was shocked to hear of flooding and damage in NC.
We're still trying to avoid Covid which is going rampant everywhere. Hope vaccine is successful so our way of life can change.
Have a good week-end, everyone.

Getting ready to head out for a week in Hilton Head with my neighbor Jo. Looking forward to relaxing and just chilling out. So glad I have finished all the baking!

Betsy, I got to choose my retirement gift from American Airlines. I got a beautiful crystal vase that could hold a lot of alcohol or also act as a weapon! It is really heavy and I would hate to get clobbered with it! Seriously it is beautiful and I use it all the time for fresh flowers.

Good morning,
So nice to see beautiful skies outside! I am looking forward to cooler temperatures.
Life has been crazy but okay. I am thinking about taking off a couple of days during Thanksgiving week.

I received an email yesterday from HR telling me to pick anything out I want for $125 for my 25 years of service. It can't be a gift card alcohol or guns!! So I have to try to figure out what I want to get this weekend.

I am getting ready to run to Food Lion and Aldi for our weeks worth of groceries!

Hi Sharon, IQF means Individually Quick Frozen. Lay the fruit in single layer in pan or cookie sheet. When frozen, put in containers (I use small freezer bags) Seal and when you want to use them just take out the number you want, rinse and use.
Blueberries I just freeze in boxes. If they are not washed, they do not stick together. and again measure amount needed, rinse quickly and use.
I got 4 boxes of lovely red raspberries at Publix today. Love them on cereal or fruit salad

Have an enjoyable week-end everyone.

Carol, I just sent youa n e-mail.. What is IQF? With my Blueberries, I just freeze them. Should I be doing something else to get them right? I would love to try Raspberries.. Wish we had a Publix close by.. Wake Forest and Cary are to far for me for grocery shopping. I am going to Lidl and Walmart this morning, so I will check them out..

Sharon I froze the red raspberries IQF and they are beautiful. Just take handful to put in cereal or fruit salad. This week our Publix has them for .99 for 6 oz. box. That's a steal. Hope I can get some tomorrow.
Don't understand the stimulator, Sharon. Is that for your heart?
