I'm booked up through the first two weekends in July, but I definitely think a regulalry scheduled occurrence helps for planning. I'll block off that day each month in my smartphone calendar so I don't make other plans.

By the way, there is a 50-mile Trail Run at Caesar's Creek State Park on July 9. I have signed up for this and wanted to ensure everyone here knew about it in case they were interested. The website with information is www.orrrc.org. It's the Dawg Gone Long Run 50, and a link to the information is the left of the web page. :)

When we had the first rally, the group that gathered picked the 3rd Saturday of the month to try and plan something regular. We had to cancel February and March, and May was going to be Big Bone Lick State Park the day after the BIG Rally ~Indygirl organized in northern KY - I know some people went, but I ended up sleeping through my alarm (I had to go into work after the Rally and didn't get home until 7am). So I was hoping to set something up for June.

If we feel like there's *really* just not enough notice (certainly for *this* weekend, which is why I was suggesting next weekend, or June 25th), we can totally skip this month and try for July. The question then becomes do we do it on the 3rd Saturday (which would be July 16th, and would require someone else to be the go-to person again, because I'll be in New York that weekend), or do we want to try planning for a different weekend of the month?

The reason we'd thought to pick a specific Saturday and do that every month was to help people plan ahead. My *personal* ULTIMATE goal would be to see regular meetups going on all over the area - maybe a west side meet up the 1st Saturday, east side 2nd Saturday, northern on the 3rd and N.KY on the 4th, and keep rotating like that - gods know we have enough sparkpeople in Cincinnati (which is only appropriate, being the birthplace of The Spark), and to have a team of leaders from each area that would take turns coordinating (yeah, I dream big) but so far we've not had enough interest to even get one regular meet up going consistently. So that has to be the first step.

Thoughts? We talked about this at the first rally, but there were only about 8 of us in attendance, and I'd really like more input.

Thanks for chiming in!!

I think I'll be busy this weekend, but sounds fun!! Hooping would be great to learn, so maybe you'd be willing to do demos in the future, too? :)

What about 4th of July weekend? I know often people have plans with family, but maybe for some who don't have family around, it'd be nice to have a group to see fireworks with and have HEALTHY holiday foods :) (Ok, I say all this without knowing what my plans are, or if we'll be here - but it was just an idea!)

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to this - the past few days have been nuts.

Are you willing to be the "point person" since I won't be able to be there ('cause setting it up for this weekend at this point isn't enough notice, so I figure the following Saturday if you're willing and it works for you)?

Let me know, and I can create the spark rally page!

Yes, I am still willing to teach some hooping if people are interested and wanting to meet up. Sharon Woods would work out just fine for me. The weather is nice and hooping is so much fun. You won't even realize you are burning calories too! There is more than just waist hooping to teach.

Soooooo, do we still want to try this for June? I need to apologize to anyone who went to Big Bone Lick last month - after being at the rally all day and having to go into work that night until 7am (was SUPPOSED to just be an hour or so), I totally slept through my alarm.
emoticon

That said, I may need someone else to be the point person this month - the 3rd weekend of June is busy (and I may need to work again that Saturday night, hasn't been confirmed yet though). I can still send out notifications and put the information up on the Spark CIncinnati event page, but I can't promise I'll be able to attend myself.

I believe RMREEVESOLIS had mentioned being willing to try teaching her hooping class again (since the weather thwarted us in April), so I was thinking maybe Sharon Woods this time. Thoughts? We've normally set our start time at 2:00 PM on Saturday - does that still work for everyone?

Let me know what you guys think, and if there's interest I'll set it up. Also, let me know if anyone would be willing to be the "point person" - all it really involves is being sure to be there a little early to greet people, and I have name tags and markers I can pass along if you want. I've usually gone to Party City and picked up 4 helium balloons in the spark colors to help people find us - they're pretty inexpensive there.

Tell me what you think!

I sent out a sparkmail reminder, but I figured it was worth mentioning on this thread as well:

Don't forget, our next monthly rally is scheduled to dovetail with the mini-convention being held in Florence THIS WEEKEND! That is on Saturday, our Rally is scheduled for Sunday at 2pm at Big Bone Lick State Park - here are the details:
www.sparkamerica.com/city_sparkrally
.a
sp?event=9767

NOTE - at this moment, only one person (me) has RSVP'd on the rally site. If no one RSVPs by Friday, I'm cancelling the event. So if you're interested, please go to the site and RSVP.

Thanks! Hope to see folks this weekend!

Cancelling this one sparkies - it's cold, rainy and windy and we don't have an indoor alternative set up. Plus, hardly anyone has RSVP'd. We'll try to set up the hooping again in June.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

How about we meet at the Harbor in the main shelter area (I'll bring balloons again), and then we can move out into the grass for hooping? That way it'll be easy to find each other - I'll try to find a spot that isn't too crowded. :) If we get a bunch of RSVPs I'll see about reserving a specific shelter, but I think for now going with the harbor is probably best. We met at 2pm last time, so I figure we should keep it consistent.

I'll post up the info and sent out a sparkmail to the team tonight!

I was just thinking about this yesterday. :) We'd set it for the 3rd Saturday, which would be 16th. Open to park ideas - I think we'd planned on doing something on the west side this month (last month would have been east side had I not had to cancel), and then down in Northern Kentucky next month after the big rally/mini-convention.

I hope we are still planning on having a rally this month. I am now forgetting with Saturday we were thinking of having it. I would love to bring along all my hula hoops and teach others the fun and exercise that hula hoops can offer. Let me know who would be interested in learning and what part of town you are from, then we can pick a park closest to the majority of those who are interested in learning. Does that sound like a good plan?

Folks, I'm not going to be able to pull this together for this weekend. I *wanted* to, truly - I've been debating back and forth between Woodland Mound and the bookstore at Eastgate (had pretty much decided on Eastgate because it's looking to be a bit chilly on Saturday this weekend), but OMG work has been insane (we did a huge upgrade/transition/mainframe change this past week to finally make FTPS - Fifth Third Processing Solutions - it's own company functioning independently from 5/3, and it has NOT gone smoothly and I've had barely 30 seconds to think about anything else every night I've been there) and I don't feel 3 days notice of where and when is fair or sufficient for people to plan. SO, we'll pick things back up in April (unless someone else wants to run with it this weekend).

I truly apologize - I knew The Mainframe Split was going to be a mess, but I had no idea how *big* a mess, or how my stress levels were going to be affected. At least I can take it out on the treadmill on Wednesday finally.

Union Township has a Civic Center in Eastgate. Also I think that the Library on Mt Carmel Tobasco Road has a meeting room but I am not sure if they let you use that. There is also Borders Book Store in Eastgate that has a cafe. Just some suggestions.

At Woodland Mound, if the weather is not nice, the main building/museum has some possibilties for small informal gatherings if the group isn't too big.

So we talked at the rally at Tri County about having the next one on the east side of town. I'd had someone mention wanting to do it at Eastgate Mall (like we did Tri County Mall the last time), which we can do in a pinch, but I'm going to recommend we try to find something like a Panera or a park if the weather is nice because we found the open atmosphere of the food court made it tough to hear people speaking.

So east-siders - any ideas? For a park, I was thinking Woodland Mound - I remember them having a great parcourse there. :) But since it's March, we might want to plan on something indoors anyway - knowing Cincinnati weather there's no way to predict what it'll be like in a few weeks. :)

I am offering to help organize a rally when the weather gets warmer. I have about 10 hula hoops (maybe more) and would be more than happy to teach how to hula hoop at one of the rallies, if people would be interested. This would be a great activity to do outside at a park or in a large space. I have taught a class before and I had students from 20 to 60 years old and different shapes and activity levels. Everyone was able to pick it up and had a lot of fun doing it. I am not sure who is organizing the rallies, but you can contact me if you think this might be something to include at one of the rallies.

I just found out yesterday that my brother, who has been ill for a long time, has had Hospice ordered in for him. He lives in Tennessee so we are going to run down there on Saturday. That means I won't be able to attend the mini-rally. I am really sorry to miss it, but obviously I need to get to see my brother one last time.

Thanks for understanding,
Patty

I'm not sure if I'll make it yet or not, but assuming I'll be there, how are we going to locate each other in the food court? Is there a specific area we should go or something we should look for? :)

Sounds great! It might be a little loud in the food court, but we'll make it work!

I think Feb. 19th at 2 or 3 at the Tri County Mall food court sounds fine! Then we can plan from there.......

I was thinking like 2 or 3pm (since ~INDYGIRL is coming from Indianapolis).

SO, Panera is booked that day. *sighs* Was thinking about what else might work near that particular mall (again, my thought was that would be both easy for ~INDYGIRL, and far enough north folks from Dayton could make it - there is at least one person interested)....

And it occurred to me that maybe just meeting at the food court at the mall might work anyway? Because we wouldn't have to book a room, there's PLENTY of seating (we could just bunch however tables we needed together in one area), and then if folks wanted to go mall walking they'd already be there? What do you guys think?

OR, we could try someplace else. Again, the reason I'm focusing on Saturday the 19th is because ~INDYGIRL will be in town working on planning for the big rally anyway, and I thought it would be a great chance for those wanting to help out with that to meet up. We wouldn't have to keep things on Saturdays going forward (and heck - the weekly groups in specific areas could meet whatever days work for the participants). And I'm ALL about whoever wants to run with organizing something in your area PLEASE go for it! I don't think we can *have* too many support groups - the more, the easier for more people to participate!

So, what do you guys think? Totally open to suggestions!

What sort of time frame are we thinking for the 19th? Early afternoon? I may be able to make that- we'll see! :)

I'd definitely be interested in more regular 'region within the region' get togethers. I don't know that I could make it to a weekly one, but I'd be up for meeting semi-regularly like that in NKY. :)

I work on saturdays booooo I'll try and get some off in the future if they are going to primarily be on saturdays.

The "hosting" for your side of town sounds like a really good idea! Keep up the great work Euphretes and let me know if I can do anything, especially for the west side emoticon

I emoticon the idea for Feb. 19th at Panara Bread! I say, "Go for it!" You're right, we can walk at Tri County Mall, and plan for future times to be together. I look forward to hearing more.

thanks so much! emoticon

"P.S. Even if we didn't have a city-wide meeting every week or so, I don't see why various communities couldn't have local get-togethers, with each region "hosting" a bigger event that would rotate on across the communities on a monthly basis."

"Yes -- it would be great if we could come up with some kind of system that includes regular meetings in different communities around the area (doing exercise together is a great reason for this) and then larger gatherings every month or so. If we could come up with a great system that works in Cincinnati we could then try to implement it nationally and really "Spark America"!"

Leave it to the guys to get super ambitious! Wow - those are GREAT ideas!

Perhaps we can put out a call for volunteers at the first rally in February who'd like to run with weekly get togethers in their area? Small groups within the larger group - brilliant! (And a fairly common model I've seen used in other types of organizations that are based on community building and support.)

Sorry for the delay guys - tough to do anything but sleep on my 12 hour work days! (MEWIEGELE - I *totally* would have taken you up on the offer if I'd had the chance to check this thread yesterday - doh!)

My thought was to try for Saturday Feb. 19th (since I happen to know ~INDYGIRL plans to be in town that day anyway - kill two birds in one shot and talk about the big rally at the small rally!), and I was thinking the Panera in Springdale ('cause I've set up meetings there before, and it's right by Tri-County Mall for anyone who wants to go mall walking afterwards - since it's been SOOOOOOOO cold *brrrrrrr* I figured we should wait for March for anything outside).

I can make the call today, and update the thread (and make a "spark rally" entry on the SparkAmerica page for Spark Cincinnati with details). We can talk about the "rotation" more at the meeting. :)

ONE idea I had regarding the rotation - since we've got the big rally planned in N.KY in May, maybe the day after (since it's on a Saturday) we could try to meet up outside somewhere in N.KY, maybe a walk around Devou Park (or somewhere closer to Florence?) - that can be our N.KY rotation, and will give folks who can't make the rally on Saturday at the hotel the chance to still meet up with anybody who can stick around. If that sounds good to everybody, we can pick either a west or east side location for March and April, and then head back north for June. Make sense?

I'll report back later today - I'm off the next 3 days, so I should have some time to make further calls if Panera doesn't pan out (ouch...no pun intended, promise).
