OK, it was yesterday, but I forgot to post.
The parking lot on Hantwick Rd. was nearly full yesterday late morning. Lots of people on the trail including some kids and an adult walking group. I even saw several friends that I havent't seen for a while. The air was fresh and the sunshine felt good.

A Mallard Duck floating on the Sag Pond next to the Hantwick Rd. Trail. I don't think I've ever seen any wildlife on that pond before.

A nice mid-morning walk. There were only two other people on the trail while I was there, but the weather was nice. The South Fork of the Lewis River is running deep and swift. All of the landings are under water and probably farther down the river than they are supposed to be.

Well... I spent 6 hrs in the Portland area today... a lot of that spent in traffic. There were times when I could have walked the speed of movement on I-205.

Glad you were able to find an hour to get outside!

Today I took my usual "long walk" along the Hantwick Trail to Moulton Falls. It was a beautiful day and quite sunny with clear blue sky. Just a half-mile away, it was still foggy and gray.
One my return trip I saw a coyote about 40 yards from me. He/she crossed the path from the river to go up the mountain. It was beautiful to see.
I, also, met several dogs on the trail (before seeing the coyote) along with their owners.

Berry - Your Sunday escape sounds wonderful.
Today we had fog all morning and part of the afternoon, but when it burned off it was a lovely day. I had a doctor's appointment today, so I'll do my "long walk" tomorrow. I hope the fog doesn't come back!

Took the longest walk in months on Saturday! -- My son & his GF took me to Cannon Beach for the day + dinner.
emoticon
We walked the beach for about 3 hrs... over 20K in steps for me! (The painful part was I ended up w/ a blister UNDER a callous. The walking distance back seemed to be never-ending!)

The sun was shining. Not too much wind; lots of people walking, biking, jogging, playing! Kites & pets & kids & people is what I saw + the sand & wave action!

On our way home, @ 6 pm, we saw at least a dozen Roosevelt Elk casually foraging along the side of the road!

Lots of dogs. I went to Burnt Bridge Creek trail. The day was kind of funny - I could see raindrops, but didn't feel them. After a while I felt them, but could not see them.
I saw several people with their dogs. As I was leaving one gentleman was loading his dog, while another lady was unloading hers.

On Tues. 9/3, we walked & saw historical landmarks in Walla Walla, WA.
* Fort Walla Walla + cemetery
* the Whitman Mission
* French Town area with a restored original house from that era (mid-late 1800's)

This is a part of the state that I have never traveled to nor explored. It was interesting on several levels.

lot's of people on the Moulton Falls trail! It started with two fellows that I've seen before, who were just finishing their walk as I started. Then there were the two sisters with their prams, a couple out for a nice walk in the woods, the local Volkswalker group, two ladies with their dogs, a jogger, and a young couple. Except for the two fellows that were finishing as I was starting, I met everyone else a second time after they turned around at the end of the trail and I turned around in the middle.
The river is quite low now and the western most falls is just a trickle.

I had a lovely walk today. I went early because I had a late morning appointment. The weather was beautiful. Even though it was in the low 60's, my light sweatshirt was too warm and was pulled off within 15 minutes.
I met several "friends", whom I haven't seen for quite a while. I was fun to catch up.

Only a few people today. I was surprised because it was a sunny and a nice day - not too hot, not too cold.
The river is running well, but is quiet, so that means it is rather low. Well, what do I expect, it's July.

I went to the Mall to do some shopping, but forgot that the stores don't open until 10, so I did "mall walking" today. It was interesting to see which stores were still there (the last time I was at the Mall was Nov/Dec) and all of the new stores. Best of all, it was comfortable - not too hot and not too cold.

My neighbor w/ a 2-yr old mastiff dog weighing over 200 #'s. Yikes!
-- She was looking for a just-neutered cat that had "disappeared". Fortunately, after we were done chatting, her cat appeared just before she went indoors for the evening (@ 8pm). -- The owner was afraid it had gotten into a coyote "food-dish".
With all the construction going on around us, their typical fields to roam are shrinking.

Sunday I saw snow still in our area & heard crunchy ice & gravel along the side of the road (safest place to walk w/ some traction).
I saw 3 young deer in a clearing of trees watching us as we walked.

Saturday was too cold & windy. The wind chill & crazy roads were not the best to be walking in.

The neighbor at the end of the street had her gate smashed into 2 pieces & her car hit at 5:45 am on Friday. (No idea why the person went straight into her place instead of rounding the curve to continue on down the road?!?)

Another neighbor & his wife & newer baby were out with a stroller, walking. (Have to wonder about a baby on a rural road & cars driving w/out speed limits?! No sidewalks; only ditches!) -- I've known the guy since he was about 4 yrs old!

For me, the "worst" oops in walking was ending up 3 miles from my car when a downpour arrived. Between the wind & rain, I was definitely freezing and soaked when I finally made it back.

...a toxic burn pile. I called it in. I saw the black smoke heading into the sky when I came out my door for a walk. -- Had to walk in the opposite direction, the toxic air/smell was so bad.

I did call it in. The people are "new" into the country & getting ready to build. Might as well learn the "rules" of living out here. (A previous encounter w/ owner caused me to not approach this time.)

lot's of dogs. I think I was the only one on the trail that didn't have a canine companion. I saw some old friends, that I haven't seen for a month or more and met some new folks, who were exploring the trail for the first time. All in all it was a good day - the weather was nice, the river is running quickly and loudly, and plenty of friends to share the path.

I walked the Moulton Falls trail this afternoon and had a great time. I saw a fellow with a full backpack jogging up the trail; he's obviously training for some event/trip. I met a couple of puppies and their owners. I met a fellow who was looking for wild mushrooms. He told me it is late in the season, but that there are still some to be found. I, also, visited with a fellow who asked me about the railroad that goes near the path (it's the Chelatchie Prairie RR and runs excursions from Yacolt to Lucia ( a "block" area just west of the park).

Not too many people out this afternoon. I guess the gray skies scared people off. The trail was very quiet - no wind in the trees, no birds chirping; just the chatter of the river. I only saw one bird today - that's very unusual. I guess they were all hunckered down waiting for the predicted storm.

Drizzle today off & on! I didn't mind too much walking in it (started before I got to my turnaround location).

Both the local Volkswalker club and the All-Weather Walkers were on the Moulton Falls trail. I had a wonderful time talking with them.

I had a lovely walk today at Moulton Falls. I saw a coyote crossing the trail ahead of me. I met a friend just before my turnaround point, so we walked together back to our cars. It was delightful to have someone to talk to for half an hour. We traded e-mails and are going to walk Salmon Creek sometime this fall.

I think people tend to follow "habits"?! - Work a little, smoke a little?! Older gentleman...

Anyway, had a LOVELY walk on the Lacamas Trail today! -- Met a fitness walker, maybe 10 yrs my senior & we chatted up a storm for the first 2 miles. She went on & I came back. 4 miles was my "target" today.

But I SAW a tree blown down over the trail. Nobody would be able to ride a bike through (without picking up the bike & lifting it over all the branches). We had to kind of pick our way through it... I'm guessing the wind blew it over yesterday when it was gusting strong around here.

Huge amount of wind gusts in our location today. I couldn't get my vehicle back into my driveway after a corner tree broke across it in 3 directions. What a mess!

Couldn't believe I had to ask a smoker to refrain from smoking in our field (even though it is clearly posted)! The wind we had today + dry conditions = recipe for disastrous fire.

Lots of families enjoying the day.
The East Fork of the Lewis River is so low that it doesn't make noise going through the rapids along the Hantwick Rd. trail.

Last fall I noticed a lot of pink and yellow streamers on some of the trees on the Moulton Falls trail. I thought it might be a surveying exercise for the local JC or High School. I kept forgetting to contact the county to find out about them. Well, now I know.

Yes, I saw it and I am sad. I agree that there are a lot of trees that should come down because they are rotting or already tilted, but I really don't like the idea of clear cutting. It looks like I'll have to find another place to walk next winter. Sigh!

It was a lovely summer Sunday yesterday, so of course there were lots of people. I nearly went to Moulton Falls, but decided not to. We live on one of the two access roads to the park and the road was very busy yesterday.
