We had a quiet night last night. Apparently the neighbor kids had good time, but we didn't hear anything.
We finished up the wiring project from yesterday. DH is a VERY happy camper! emoticon

We spent the day rewiring the TV connections. Lot's of false starts, but we finally got it done.

I'm slowly getting things done. Today I finished editing a bi-monthly newsletter and sent it off to the publisher. Whew!
I made one batch of cookies the other day and will make a second batch tonight. That will be the last of my baking.
I still have to wrap presents, but at least I have everything I need.
I think I'm good until next year. emoticon

I was on a strong "run" of making consistent healthy choices....However, the holiday "treats" & sugars have started causing their "damage". I can feel the internal havoc...

This weekend, I'm working on damage control! Such a tug-of-war sometimes with what I "do" & what I "ought".

I've been busy decorating for Christmas, finishing Christmas projects, and doing my daily exercise routine. It was really windy today, which made it seem colder than it really was. Tomorrow I'm hoping to finish my Christmas shopping. My sister has decided not to come down this year, so I'll have to get her presents in the mail shortly.
I volunteered for Walk and Knock last Saturday and had an enjoyable day. It's really fun to work with the High School kids - they're so excited about helping and have much more energy than us "oldsters". On Friday is our club party. I need to get something for the gift exchange (two actually - one from me and one from DH).

The actual day was very quiet around here. The kids came over Wed. PM. They had other plans for Thurs.
Glad you were able to get away & visit @TOWHEE... and that you've gotten back safely. IMO the roads are not such a safe place to be anymore.

...and back to the deer comment(s). Today a car hit/tapped a deer & put the car in the ditch. DH was able to start the tractor & pull him out after he'd waited for over 30 min for someone to come for him. (Turns out it was the neighbor girl's boyfriend/fiance'...which I found out by accident on FB!)

Yikes! These country roads can be dangerous more often than not. -- A couple of days ago, on my way to work, I spotted a deer right at the edge of the road. I had my foot on the gas...not the brake. Really glad that she didn't jump in front of me.

I will be walking on the beach for the coming week. In theory, it should be safer & greatly enjoyable.

Previously, you mentioned your spouse mowing the dandelions. My DH has been eating leaves from the renewed sprouts, now that the rain has brought them back up. They are a healthy add-in for salads.

It was a beautiful afternoon for a walk. I met a dog, several joggers, and a few walkers enjoying the afternoon.
I met the school bus on a one-and-a-half lane curvy steep road. I back down a little (sure wish I had a backup camera) and the bus inched past me. The bus was early today, I wasn't expecting it for another 10 minutes and then I would have been home safe and sound.

Foggy this morning, but a nice afternoon. Since it's supposed to rain tomorrow, I did my "long walk" today. I met a lot of people I've never seen before, but then I don't usually walk at 2 pm. There were even 6 dogs along the trail. Lovely day, lovely setting, lovely people. Who could ask for anything more?

I just had the neatest experience ...
I heard tapping in another part of the house and thought it was just the wind. I went into the room next to mine and there on the window screen was a Flicker. He was going after some insects at the top of the screen! After a while he stopped and looked around. I think he saw me, but I stayed really still. He went back to looking for more insects, then looked around again. This lasted about five minutes at which point I looked away and he took off.

Even though it was overcast, it was a good day for a walk. I met my friend, Peggy, when she was walking back and I was walking out. It was good to catch up on things. I turned around and joined her on the way back to the cars and made up the missing minutes when I got home.

I published one newsletter on Monday and am in the midst of publishing a second one. That one should be done by the end of the week. Then I won't have anything "on my plate". Time to clean up the garden for winter.

Well DH started mowing again. He has completed the north, south, and east "lawns" (they aren't really lawns, they're not really green, but they are vegetation). He did half of our field (about 1 acre) today and he'll complete the rest of it Monday. Yeah! The dandelions and other weeds are getting cut down.

emoticon Loved the sunny, crisp Fall day today!

Time to take a walk this PM since my gym class was cancelled due to instructor's illness. -- Took another trunk-load of recycling in today on my way to quilting! emoticon
That's in addition to the consignment goods dropped off Wed. along w/ donations for Salvation Army. Last Sunday delivered a load of items to the Ptld Rescue Mssn.

The only way to get stuff GONE from 30 yrs of accumulation, is to remove it from the property!

There's a saying out here in our rural area: "Don't learn what you don't want to get stuck doing on an ongoing basis."

Even though DH has been not able to farm since his back injury in April, I won't deal w/ the tractor or the sprayer. I did run the rider mower for several hours. There's just never an end to stuff to do on the outside. -- Until the inside is "liveable" I just can't solve all the outside problems around here.

Spent today getting rid of more items + off-loading a shelving unit so that DH can get all his orchids inside before frost hits our area. He has an "inside/outside" rotation for both temperature & light. He seems to have fairly good luck getting them to rebloom.

Berry - Good thing you got everything done on Thursday because Friday was as wet as predicted (we got over 1.25" ). DH hasn't mowed the field in over a month and it looks horrible. Now it's too wet to mow. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to use the mower. Darn!

Friday is supposed to rain most of the day... so would probably be a WET clean-up?! As I was heading out for my walk today, I realized that getting the leaves OFF the grass before the rains would be a good idea. So one thing led to another...

Grass got mowed & leaves removed. Items got loaded into the house. Donations got loaded into the car. More things were put into storage so as not to be out in the weather.

All in all, I moved over 13K in steps for the day, so I guess it was all time well spent!

Another lovely fall walk. I met up with a friend I haven't seen since last spring. It was good to catch up. I, also, met up with another friend. She was on her way back to her car, just as I reached my turnaround spot, so we were able to have a nice long chat.

I need to weed and start the fall clean-up. Maybe tomorrow???

Thankful that the acupuncturist has Sunday appts. It really does help me out!

Always thankful when I get back home from Portland! It's such a different city than when I lived there in the '80's. It feels dirty & crowded & not "safe" anymore.

Every once in awhile..... So happy to be having a great day! It's been a combination of all sorts of things...adding up to AWESOME!

Started the day w/ a 65 min walk on a local trail w/ a new acquaintance. She is a fitness walker, so it "pushed" me to get on down the trail.

From there I headed out on errands. Found a gift card I didn't know I had, and found 2 tops on sale & even got change back from the gift card!
Everything else just kept working well, with all the things getting done. -- Just happy for an unexpected day off to enjoy a summer day. (Totally "slammed" w/ maximum # of customers on the Fourth. Field closed to allow sunshine to ripen & sweeten.)

Oh... I KNOW I NEED more help! Today was another such day. emoticon Where does one get help? If I'm paying $11.50 an hr then there truly is no point to run the farm. (4.5 acres) -- In the past, our kids were paid to pitch in (keeping the money "in family"). Then they learned the value of the $ and Needs vs. Wants. (They are now grown & are living their own lives w/ jobs, etc.)

My DH injured his back about 10 wks ago, so all the things he did do have mostly fallen on me. Add to that some rude & inconsiderate customers, not to mention only ONE chance to use the bathrm today... and I'm trying not to fall apart. (What's a meal break????)
emoticon
I DO try to plan some form of self-care each week, and I am going to bed earlier, and I'm really working on how I think...

I just flat out call this INSANITY! But I really don't have any simple answers, solutions, etc. (I've tried a couple of directions to see about some young person coming for 4 hrs to take some of the "extras" I've had to pick up, but so far...No Takers.

Sunday was actually a definite day of needed rest for me. -- I slept over 9 hrs & later went for a deep tissue massage. I'm just not cut-out any longer to go from sun-up to sun-down, 6 days a week. Something has to give... (I've given "notice" that I won't do this past 60 yrs of age!) Someone else can be a "glutton" for punishment!

I had reached "zombie" status by Fri. PM & still had to get through Sat. And, Sat. I only had 2 opportunities to "breathe" & stretch before pushing onward. (No meal breaks. Lucky to get to the bathroom!) Sigh...

For now at least, my head is in a better place--particularly with more sleep on board!

Going "backwards" means, going BACK to a "base" hourly pay every single year. Instead of continuing forward from where one leaves off, and increasing from year to year...in Sept. it goes BACK to the set "base" amount (whether you've worked 1 yr or 5 yrs or more!).
emoticon
Yeah... rabbits. emoticon Had a temp. worker talk about "relocating" the buggers that were destroying a friend's yard space that he was taking care of. I looked at him, and said, "There is no shortage of those buggers. Please do NOT perpetrate MORE. Eliminate NOT relocate!"
emoticon We used to have a wonderful dog that avidly hunted & helped w/ the elimination "process"! -- It will be 2 yrs in Sept. since she passed. She was the PERFECT farm dog (14 yrs old). She has been missed greatly on so many counts...

What do you mean by "working "backwards""?
Oh, I agree about wildlife is fine as long as it's in a neighbor's yard. We haven't had too much trouble with deer lately, but don't get me started on rabbits!
I agree once the temps are in the 70's I slow down. It may not be 70, but by 75 (unless there's a breeze) I'm a "tortoise".

Have a good evening.

Here's a "crazy". Every school year that I work, I start "backwards" until I work 30 days! What?? -- I told the office that I've never had a job that one didn't keep the hourly wage one "ended" with. I was told that was what "bargaining" decided!?!
emoticon
So I've been doing my "fair share" on the farm of late... Saturday I sat on the rider mower about 3 hrs to mow about 4 acres--between the rows. Yesterday & today I piled 3+ wheelbarrows full of weeds pulled. (...and didn't even put a single noticeable "dent" in the JUNGLE around here!)

I've gotten back to walking in the AM when it's not "hot" yet. (I just feel like I "drag" through the walk once it hits 70 degrees or more.) emoticon

Got a replacement battery for a farm vehicle. Have plans to replace a tire & get the gunk off of it from being stored since last summer.

And helped haul 12' & 8' poles for the purpose of building a deer fence to keep 5 of them from eating their way through our field.
emoticon The best "wildlife" is on someone else's place! emoticon

The bylaws are ready to be reviewed, the newsletter is ready to be reviewed, the quilt has an hour more of work done to it. Will the quilt be done by the end of the month? I have no idea, but I am running out of time.

Busy day today. I'm working on revising the bylaws of one of the organizations that I belong to. I'm also getting ready to start putting together a bi-monthly newsletter for a different organization and I have a quilt that I need to get finished by the end of the month.

Found my "calling", but not sure if there is any hope to actually work in this field since everything is electronic. -- I LOVE working in the Library. It is so logical and refreshing. Dealing w/ kids on a 30 min basis is 100% nicer than putting up w/ insanity for an entire day.

Thankful for a 3-day weekend to take a break and get ready for another busy week. Maybe I can get some of "my" things done?! There's certainly a growing list of "to do's"!

Learning how to look at things differently. Slowly getting better at that whole "duck routine" of shaking off the nonsense / garbage. I can only "own" what I can do something about...

Wishing anyone "out there" an enjoyable weekend!

Gee Berry, it sounds like you have a bad case of "burn out"!
I'm not sure what the politics in your profession are, but sometimes our supervisors aren't getting support from their higher ups. Feel free to vent at my Sparkmail box any time you need to.

Gosh...I've certainly had better days. emoticon The AM wasn't so bad, but I definitely wish I just didn't care what goes on in the work place. If I didn't care, then it wouldn't bug me so much. (DH says those of us w/ a certain upbringing--well, it's the way we are "wired".)

I watch others "in charge" just shrug their shoulders, roll their eyes, and look the other direction. I'm not sure I can do this in an extended way due to the lack of support from multiple sources. At some point, it just isn't worth the frustration & stress! -- Guess I should just go file papers someplace?!

We used canned air on computer keyboards, printers, and even the CPUs to keep them clean. It's much more efficient than a rag and nothing gets damp.

I'm not sure I'd use canned air on my sewing machine, but I have an attachment for my hand vac that would work really well. I just have to remember to use it. emoticon

I've become a "fan" of canned air. Whenever I sew flannel material (& other times as well), I make sure to spray as much of the lint out as possible. -- Previously, DH found a way to open my machine up & help me oil & clean deeper inside. (Since my machine is almost 30 yrs old, it's not "plastic" & all electronic. Easier to work on the gears & whatnot!)

Since the beach place was ON the beach, I enjoyed sewing, reading & other inside activities on days that were really windy & overcast. I could still listen to the wave action as well as see it all! -- I can honestly see myself living at the coast & working there too! Lots of "Help Wanted" signs around town.
emoticon
Now back to "reality" of work and kids and the "politics" in the workplace. -- But I think it would be easier if my house were usable again. (I wouldn't have to go away just to be able to sew!) The remodel is extending once again due to an injury DH got in his lower back 4/22.
emoticon
I got an AM walk in before work, and then mowed the yard PM after the first set of rain sprinkles let up & the sun came through. (Had to go over some of it twice because the wet caused the longer grass to just lay down first time across.) So, got in my exercise for the day!

Berry that's fantastic. I think if I'd gone to the OR coast I would have spent my time on the beach instead of inside. I'm glad you got so many quilts done.
I took my machine in for servicing two weeks ago and picked it up on Saturday. It was filthy dirty, but other than that it checked out fine. I told the repair person that I had tried to clean it up and he said I did a great job. He had to take it apart to get the rest of the lint - lots of red from the two quilts I made for a Canadian women's convention in 2017.

It was a sunny drive back from the OR coast. 7+ blissful days of vacation with a sewing machine and time for plenty of walking (about 23+ miles). It was time well-spent!

Back to work tomorrow...
While I was away, I got 3 quilts completely done! 3 more that are "close"--just need a couple more things done to them. Another one w/ the squares all cut out & 4-5 more in the planned-for stage. (I was in my "happy" place, doing what I love to do!)

Well, I'm feeling much better. I have over 10K steps today. Woohoo. I still have a naggy cough, but it doesn't wake me at night, so I'm a happy camper.

I'm glad that you've found things that work for you. I'm thinking I picked this up when I was with a bunch of kids two weeks ago. Since I don't have access to kids too often, I don't have the immunity.

emoticon Sorry!
My spouse also ended up w/ a head cold these past 4 or so days. He sits in a very drafty location at work & has been over-doing it w/ little sleep. emoticon I would say he only gets a cold 1x in 3-4 yrs. He just doesn't get sick much.

I've been fortunate this winter w/ using supplements to "kick" bugs before they get started. -- My body usually gives me a "heads up" that something is trying to knock me down. I found a zinc spray w/ elderberry & essential oils at Fred Meyers in their Natural Foods/Supplements area. That along w/ colloidal silver drops have really made a difference in immune boosting for me. -- I've "kicked" 3 items before they got started. And the 4th passed mildly in 3-4 days.

Take care of yourself! Feel better soon! ...Treat yourself to some nice warm teas or honey & lemon w/ hot water.

I'm sorry to hear of your woes. My sister taught elementary school for over 30 years, so I understand your frustration. It's too bad that today's kids are experiencing the "everyone gets a trophy" syndrome. It isn't good for the kids that put in their best effort to see the slackers getting the same reward and the slackers have learned that they are "entitled" to what everyone else has without putting in the effort.
I'm glad I'll be dead in another 15 or 20 years because I'm not sure I want to be governed by today's school kids.

Working continues to be a challenge. There is just so much "wrong" w/ the current status of our local schools. Unfortunately, it is also a reflection of homes & society.

Today: "We can't move ahead a whole group of kids who are ready because ONE is not. That's the policy." -- This is exactly why I removed my kids from the "system".

Earlier this week, a fight almost ensued over someone flipping someone else's hat.

And then there was the student who let loose a string of expletives toward me because I dared to tell him to "cut it out".

Headed out the door for a walk on a beautiful day! Chatted with a new neighbor & she showed me all the changes they made in the house when they moved in...

Had lunch w/ a college friend who I haven't seen in months. We decided we just had to make a plan and "do it"!

Got a few things done around the house. Not really a "dent" in the "disaster", but something is always better than nothing.
emoticon The outdoor farm work is ramping up, so DH is focused on that instead of the house. Sigh....

Work is ramping up. Today was 3 - 90 degree turns, so flexibility is "the name of the game". (Made a great teaching pt. with the 5th graders I ended up w/ at 10:30am.) -- They were workable kids; found some connecting pts w/ movement & a word game. Overall, it was a good day!

Still trying to figure out how to get the house further emptied. More stuff HAS to go! -- Don't get out walking much with the rainy weather. I had ONE great week; now not so much...

It was a nice morning, but started raining mid-afternoon. Oh, well, it's the first rain of 2018, so I guess it had to come some time.

My BIL plays Pickleball every chance he gets. He's been playing for about 5 years now.

I rejoined WW last week. I find it's easier to get my "head back in the game" when I go to meetings. Unfortunately the Battle Ground meetings are on Monday and there haven't been any for a couple of weeks due to holidays, so I had to go to Vancouver instead.

Yesterday I walked the Moulton Falls trail. It was a good way to start the new year. There were lots of other folks who had the same idea.

Its great to hear from those in our group. Thanks for you post.

I am finding the pursuit of my new interest in pickleball to be amazing. It helped drop 30 lbs in 2017 and the last 25 lbs I need to loose should be off this year.
