I love cropped pants - but part of it is that my legs have always been my slimmest and shapeliest part. I'm happy to show them off!

I've been making one meal either salad or fruit and yogurt - to make up for having a car and not walking as much. Today, I finally found the full-length pants I wanted - 97% cotton, a tiny bit of spandex; one cargo pocket which is unobtrusive; rollable legs with tabs to keep them rolled. At half price. Best part, though, is they're one size smaller than I expected to fit into! I'm guessing the salad or fruit meal is helping with that too!

good morning - we passed the harry potter books around from one reader to the next. haven't looked at the latest one, and i don't think DD has either - she has been known to plan her departure date for her summer trip to sweden until after the HP book came out, read it on the plane, and then hand it over to us to continue:-)

had a better day yesterday, a slow 3 miles stroll followed by some work, and then two chick flicks when i was home alone while DH and our current house guest were out picking wild mushrooms. i also get up earlier so i can have my coffee in peace when we have house guests. or DH sneaks a cup up to me and i go downstairs once the batteries are charged. the current guest leaves on tuesday morning, DD returns tuesday afternoon, then on wed DS arrives with wife, baby, and in-laws - that is one visit that has me nervous!!!

will probably go for another quiet stroll today. not ready to run yet...

I started the day driving the car to the dealer for a new battery this morning. My car wouldn't start when I was trying to leave work yesterday; scary stuff! So the trip ate up most of the morning. Lazy afternoon.

Maree, your houseboat sounds lovely and from the sounds of it you have room for all of us! Wouldn't that be a hoot!,
I love the circle of our conversations with everyone jumping in. I remember reading Heidi as a little girl and from then on I wanted to go to Switzerland. I did make it one day but just a quick jaunt over to border to Zurich. Beautiful country which did not disappoint.
We have one more week of visiting and then we had home. I have to admit this trip has been harder than usual and certainly not enough exercise. DH and I got up early to go to a wonderful farmers market but he is struggling so much with his walking that it was not as enjoyable as it use to be. He fell the other day and now his ribs are very sore which sure does not help the situation.
Our kids are coming for dinner tonight which is wonderful. Fresh veggies from the market are on the menu.

Gosh, it's almost afternoon! We didn't arrive at our hotel until a little after midnight, so our sleep schedule was majorly thrown off. I was able to get out of bed around 8 to have breakfast with Dad, but hubby is still trying to roust himself. I ate almost the same breakfast I have on weekdays and then took my walk. It's hilly here so I already have 29 flights on my fitbit:).

I also painted my toenails after my shower. The pedicure was long overdue!

Soon it will be off to lunch and Gander Mountain to see if they've got any good stuff on sale. The family festivities begin at 4 with a room party at the hotel, followed by a minor league baseball game. It's always a raucous fun time. Tomorrow will be morning mass, lunch at Old Country Buffet, and the drive home.

Regarding Harry Potter, I listened to most of them on audio. One coworker bought them, and then let the other office HP fans borrow them when she was done. They're read by Jim Dale, who has got to be the best narrator ever. I sat in my car in the driveway listening for over half an hour during the duel with Voldemort because it was so well done!

Maree, your boat sounds amazing!

I don't like the crops on me either, I hadn't thought about cutting them down. Sometimes I don't find shorts I like so it might be a a good solution.

Got in a nice walk yesterday and then did some house cleaning. Having an overnight guest gets me doing some of the tasks done now like washing the tile floors. But the weight is still not budging, I should just commit to tracking it always helps.

Went to a jazz piano concert last night to see a musician we both like. DH and I saw him for a Valentine concert in the early 80's and have seen him several times since. We did a lot of reminiscing about our 40+ years together.

Nell - I love your slow eyes analogy! Me too...by the time I decide something looks good and go for it, it's old hat! In everything. Guess it is old age, even thought that's hard to take!

Cooler here today, but still pretty humid.

The humidity rose yesterday and last night, so of course I'm up a pound this morning. The a/c is running now. Even though I know it's water weight, I'll still wind it back today.

This is a good day for errands, all walking indoors in air conditioned comfort.

At some point I have to suck it up and hem the jeans I got on sale, then cut off old jeans into shorts. I don't know why but most of the long pants I see are "crops", or what we used to call "high waters". I'm also seeing higher waists with a 4" zipper instead of the 3" zipper I like so much. A petite would fit better, but petites are harder and harder to find, even at high end stores. I have slow eyes, it takes a few years for a newer look to look normal to me. That's for both clothing and for home design. Is that a sign of age?

I have the new Harry Potter this weekend. I haven't started it but based on the margins and spacing it's a short story printed so as to make you think the $30 price is acceptable. I loved the first few but had to make myself read the last 3.

I did NOT sleep well last night - too excited about today. There is just enough time to get the house clean and run maybe one load of laundry before I head out. I've had a really hard time getting in any exercise this week or last - and my body can tell. It just feels flabby. The coming week will be another inactive one but come August 15 I can get back to my routine.

My eating yesterday was also very .... brat-like - but one thing I'm really proud of is that I tracked it all. ALL of it - including the fancy ice cream. It would have been so easy to pretend that I hadn't really eaten that much. I had. It's down on paper now. I won't wait till the 15th to change those eating habits. That step gets taken today!

Believe it

Become it

Good morning. Fun to think of the sunrise on the water, Maree. Your boat sounds beautiful.

Our house has "low maintenance" guests too, Phebes. I still get up early when we have people in just to clear my head for the day.

I read Harry Potter as an adult of course, while my son read them. He 'hit' that series just as it came out. I remember several summers of him carrying around the newest Potter and reading it everywhere. On a swing, at dinner at the beach. (-: I haven't decided whether to read the new one. Anyone done that yet?

Heading to the community market and then a relaxing day on the water. My guests are cooking today! Yay!

Wishing everyone a restful Saturday.

Good morning!

I was into the Little House On The Prairie and Nancy Drew books. I also loved Pollyana!

I was quite tired after work but made it to my group 3-mile run. My tush was barking from the workout at Orange Theory the day before but once we got running, that loosened right up.

This morning I will be taking the dog for a pain injection to help with her hip displasia and arthritis in her knee. She loves the vet and lets them do anything they want with no complaints.

Then I'm scheduled for an 8-mile run on my Nike Half Marathon training. The humidity dropped a bit thank goodness. These hot, humid runs are draining.

Hoping for a nap later!! emoticon

Good morning!

I just turned on the coffee pot and am anxiously awaiting the finished brew.

Children's books--ah I bet I know one grandchild who will know her/his way around a library! Bess. DD calls us most nights on Hang Out (like Skype) so we can share story time with granddaughter. She will be 5 next week. I remember loving the Black Stallion series. My brothers collected the Hardy Boys and I read Nancy Drew.

Now it's newspapers. I bring the ones i didn't have time to read to the river. I've cancelled all the magazines--just read a few boating magazines. And audio books while I travel.

Beautiful sunrise coming up across the water. Ours is a 50 ft Gibson houseboat which sleeps 8 comfortably. Full size mattresses, one in the stateroom, two in the cuddy cabin and a hideabed couch in the living room (which is called a saloon but pronounced salon in a boat.) We've had more!

Okay off to start the day. Hope you all have a great Saturday!!
