Yeah, I still walk a lot, but definitely less than I used to - knee that I destroyed in a bad fall in a hurricane, two meniscus repairs, and sixteen or so years later, well, no cartilege left. Oh well. Yes, most likely will do the surgery while we're in the US. Will tie us down a bit longer than planned, but what can we do, I don't want to make it any nt thworse than it is.

I"m a very compliant patient in PT - I do all my exercises, keep doing them at home, and work hard to get back my strength and mobility. Did it after two knee surgeries, as well as a foot injury. And two frozen shoulders. Our family has a history of loose joints in our youth and arthritis as we age. A few cousins have had hips and knees replaced. So it's my turn.

Spent my day getting boxes out of storage, working with DH to get them into the hotel, and sorted through to grab all the things I want for the next year of travel as well as several months in one place for surgery recuperation. Now I just need to pick a location and date. Would be happiest to have surgery here in WA, then follow up with PT in a warmer location! Fall and early winter in the Pacific NW is the worst time of year.

TGIF! Although we treated it like a Saturday, getting our errands done.
Now I'm debating if I'm ready to return to the gym tomorrow emoticon I'm not sure if I'm being overly cautious... Then again, I know myself and if I'm at the gym I'll go full force...
Does anyone have a good sweat band to recommend? I don't like wearing workout hats when I workout at the gym, but it's all I have to keep the sweat off my brows.

Have a healthy weekend everyone!

When you check in so late it is hard to remember all the posts!!!
Maree, sounds like you and your hubby had a lovely birthday celebration. Those times are to be treasured
Phoebes, I did not know that you were at the point of having a TKR. Been there, done that and never looked back. My knee is not perfect but I can do anything I want now. You will not be sorry but what the others have said....doing the pt is the most important thing you can do.
We are having a get. together with DHs family today so spent the morning making salads with my sil. Love working in the kitchen and having good laughs. Tomorrow is the wedding then Sunday we are heading home. It is about time I think!

Happy Friday everyone! I love the "maintainers on the mend" moniker. So clever!

Today I feel MUCH better than yesterday. The pain is much less, and I can almost put full weight on my leg. I'll go home today, and follow up with the surgeon next week. PT will start in a few weeks. I'm not sure exactly when.

My (vicarious) experience with joint replacements is that making a full recovery really depends on how hard the patient is willung to work afterward. I know people who didn't regain full range of motion, and othera who did. The ones who did worked really hard in PT to get those results.

I hope we all feel better really soon!

Kellie, it's a lot harder now for docs to prescribe narcotics, they can only write a certain number of prescriptions a month without a lot of extra paperwork. Orthopedists are especially under the microscope. Congress is talking about how to stem the tide of opiod addiction, who knows what extra requirements will derive from that. Personally I couldn't wait to get off them after my neck surgery. You can't drive while taking them, and that was my immediate goal.

HI all! Oh the humidity. I hate to wish away summer but these hot training runs for the half marathon are really draining me!!!!!!

Last night I decided to come in late to work and met part of my running group at 5:30 this morning. It's been many years since I've worked out at that time. It was horribly humid but it was magical running through the path in the dark and then slowly getting light. Too cloudy for the sun. The scenery is gorgeous and saw a family of deer. So magical!

I don't want to be at work now. Oh well. Gotta pay the bills!

Oh yeah, the hip replacement. Be a beast about recovery!!! It will be hard but power through. My mom's first knee replacement was the start of her decline because therapy was too painful, she just wanted the meds. The first therapist she had told her therapy shouldn't hurt and that was all mom needed to hear. It was 14 years of different combos of narcotics which stopped helping after a couple years and more knee replacements... spinal fusion surgery, carpal tunnel surgery and she never worked at physical therapy, just wanted the meds.

Sorry for my rant. It was so painful watching her decline that I feel very strongly about physical fitness and the need for physical therapy!

I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend!

Several days ago I ate a fish burrito and gained 1.5 lbs. Last night I went to a party, ate a whole lot (healthy food, but still a lot) and drank 4 glasses of wine. Result?...no change in weight. Go figure.

A lot of people must be vacationing in LA, the normally heavy traffic has been almost impossible all summer.

Phebes the good news is that it can be fixed.

Getting out for a walk early this morning before it gets warm

HAPPY FRIDAY! Yes, I'm excited that it's here.

Phebess - Both parents have had knee replacements. All about how bad you want to recover and be active again. Mom still has problems and hasn't been compliant with after care. Dad was up pushing through the pain to do laps of the halls the next day, has had an excellent result and was released from PT very shortly after the surgery. You do need to be evaluated periodically afterward, so that may crimp your travel style.

Bess - Hoping TheReunion goes well!

It's been getting so much darker on my commute, and this morning was the coolest morning (per my car's thermometer at 74F) that it has been in awhile. Fall, come on down!

Walk and groceries in yesterday. Did a small walk this morning when I had to get something. Going to try to get another in later.

Hope that everyone has a great day and wonderful weekend!

Toni, I love the lack of August traffic! I don't know where everyone is, but I'm glad they are somewhere else. I don't mind the heat and humidity as long as I have an air conditioned house. No matter how hot it is, I don't have to shovel it, and it doesn't turn a 4 lane road into a 2 lane road, impeding everyone's ability to get around.

Phebess, would you have your knee replaced here in the US? I have a ton of friends who have had joint replacements. It's tough recovery, but they are all thrilled with the result.

How are you feeling, Diane? When can you drive again? That was the biggie was interested in after my neck fusion surgery.

Good morning!

Boy, calling this weather the 'dog days' would be an insult to dogs. Horrendous mugginess. Managed to get my haircut in DC yesterday and the silver lining was that parking was a snap. Not many folks were apparently wandering about. But then it IS August in Washington when the town really gets slow and empty. When I worked downtown I liked it for hunkering down and getting things done without interruptions.

Bess, I hope your weekend reunion goes well in spite of the weather. Sending healing thoughts to you and Cat, Phebess. I'll use a few for myself for the sake of my husband who is tired of hearing me cough.

We may need to change out group name to "maintainers on-the-mend"!

Ah Maree - the best kind of nourishment - soul food. Good morning Cat - I hope your busy day goes smoothly. I, too, am surprised to hear you have knee problems, Phebess - you write of such vivid explorations. whatever you decide - I wish you freedom from pain. I love outdoor concerts, Sunny.

I am so done with this Bermuda High. It was so hot yesterday I actually melted - at least, it felt like I had. I walked the 7 blocks to the post office and back to my gf's office and nigh'bout'ta died. The plan had been to skip the gym and go home to kayak. Instead I went home to sleep the evening away. Feeling more the thing today but I am ready for fall. Today I go with said gf for a manicure and then we shop for paper products for TheReunion. This year I don't want any guests at my house afterwards. Mostly because the back yard is full of holes and dirt piles. There is not yet a bathroom but I am sure there will be before the snow flies.

dinner was a green smoothy and pop corn. that was all the cooking I was up for.

Good morning! Ah, Friday!

Your great attitude will serve you well, Poindextra, as you recover. Phebess, sorry to hear a knee replacement might be necessary. I'm sure you will investigate thoroughly. You seem so active, I didn't realize you had a problem.

I stayed in town yesterday to catch up; that extra 2.5 hrs in my office with all the files I needed at my fingertips made a huge difference. I was feeling on top of the world until I received an email asking me for a project in writing that I thought was going to be delivered at a face to face meeting next Friday. Ugh. Now I have that to do today, along with some training that's due and other deadlines. It's okay; I shall manage.

I treated DH to dinner last night at one of our favorite restaurants. I had the salmon--gourmet style (which means small portions) and we both had dessert. Also small servings, but delicious. We spent two hours tucked away in a corner with candlelight enjoying each other and nourishing our bodies and souls.

Okay off to start the day--crossfit, busy work day, and then off to the river. Hope all have a great day!!
