First off, all hail BESS!! All hail BESS!! I don't think I'd make it out of a place with dessert in the name WITHOUT dessert in my stomach!

I left work close to 6pm, but spent some 'therapy' time pre-assembling office furniture towards the end of the day and lost track of time. I have been hesitant to 'decorate' "my office" because I don't want to spend all my days at "my desk". I feel like not having my own touches makes it the office and not "my office". This is also why I keep declining having business cards printed; I don't want to admit having a job title because I don't have all the answers the job holder should know. It sounds like I'm having an identity crisis, now that I put it out there...
Happy weekend everyone!

Toni, Italy sounds awesome. It is on my bucket list but like Sunnybeach said the mobility of my spouse changes everything. Very sad when now we have the time to do these things but can't due to medical issues.
This group is inspiring me to start tackling some of those jobs thst just keep getting put on the back burner. Today I am going to tackle grout cleaning in one of the bathrooms. Sounds like a fun day doesn't it?
The sun is shining and it looks like a lovely fall day so I will make sure I get to enjoy some of it.

I would love to see Italy again it was a wonderful place to see. The DH is becoming so limited in his mobility that long trips may be in the past.

Had a full day of exercise and good eating choices and the scale is being kind

Good morning!

I appreciate hearing about Whole 30. It sounds like how I eat, but do I? I'm going to put it on my list.

And Bess, Maree and Nell - This week I decluttered our living room. It brings such a feeling of peace when I enter the space. I just put things away and gave things away that I didn't care about any more, or need. So some shelves are empty, some not. Ahhh. It is a kind of vacation for me to do that.

Kayaked this morning and prepping for big trip next week to Italy. Can't remember if I mentioned it here, but we are traveling with our son and his girlfriend whom we like a lot. Should be so much fun. A bucket list item for us too.

Happy Friday all.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Maree - Before Whole 30, I started decreasing sweetener in my coffee. I do use a good deal of almond milk (need more than regular), but I don't miss the sugar/sweetener at all. I don't miss dairy either (I was and still am a cheese/yogurt lover, but I don't miss it)-avocado helps as something creamy. Whole 30 tries to get you away from the idea of needing to end the day with dessert. I still struggle with that, but now, it's maybe some dried figs or a spoonful of nut butter or some grapes. I'm honestly surprised with how much that I did not miss things.

Poindextra - Yay! Great news-hope everything continues to progress well.

Bess - I love that resignation moment. I had a few moments like that at my old job. My old boss meant well, but she was no longer physically or mentally equipped for the job (ended up medically retiring around the time that I left). I had some lines in the sand that I drew, but they were never crossed until right at the end when I was on my way to my current position.

Lately, I've been feeling like that a bit in my new position. I've been here 4.5 years, and I have to say that my enthusiasm for doing the same old thing and being pulled in more directions with unrealistic expectations of performance is at a low. I still like my job, but when I look around at the profession that I spent extra time in school and went $190K in debt for, I don't see a lot of room for me long term. We just all got raises, but the particular budget that funds my position is strained as it is, so if we do not get more funding, I think positions will be cut.

So I've been spending my spare time trying to learn C++. Still on the basics, but so far, so good-if I can learn to code and do a decent job, my prospects open widely. I used to do a lot of computer tinkering in my early teens and wish that I would have kept up with it. Coding is a proof of skill field, so I won't have to go back to school for it, thankfully. The guy does a different type of coding that is only very tangentially related to his degree.

I didn't get my steps or my ST last night - too darned tired and sore from earlier in the week. We did get our meals planned, grocery trip accomplished, and I worked on my C++ stuff while dinner was in the oven. So not a total wash, and today is another day.

Hope that everyone has a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Bess! You! Ate! At! The! Cheesecake! Factory! And! Resisted! Dessert! WOW! Badge of honor for you. Way to Spark!

Glad to hear good news on the medical front!

DH snored all night so I went to the couch about 2am. We have a very comfy couch for lounging, NOT for sleeping! My back is paying the price.

BUT IT'S FRIDAY! And we have cooler temps coming. YAY for no more humidity!

Started the day with walking our dog and will head to the gym soon. Heading to the lake this afternoon and meeting at church tonight and company for dinner on Sunday.

Have a great weekend all!

The condo meeting last night went well, only 4 homeowners showed up. We got a lot done, but as a board. Our paid help isn't doing much, we will have to hire and fire a couple of people.

Decluttering feels as good as losing weight. Which, I guess, is what it is, just losing ugly stuff instead of ugly fat. When we moved into this house in 1985 I wondered if we'd ever have enough stuff to fill it up. Now, even after a couple of style rotations, it's over full, especially the basement and the attic where questionable possessions go to wait. Sometimes the only real value in stuff is that I've had it for so long.

It's been in the 90s for the last two days, two more days of this extraordinary heat. We've had an extremely hot summer, following a really cold winter. Seasons used to feel longer than they do now.

It's a workation, Maree, not a vacation. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who thinks taking a week off to spruce up her house and declutter is fun. Nice to have a twin out there. Glad to hear your husband made it fine through surgery and is sleeping it off now, Phebess. Terri - hope you find exactly the flooring you want - soon. Glad you got to leave at a decent hour yesterday Dee - I second Jamirblaze's advice though. Set your limits and have an exit plan. Honestly - all of us should do that even if we have great jobs.

Ha! Reminds me of a time when, during a board meeting, when someone offered to help me do my job, but in a manipulating way that struck me as a vote of no confidence and from somewhere deep within me came the words "In that case, I have to give my resignation here and now." It shocked everybody, but nobody more than me. And when the board asked me what was wrong I said "You hired me to do this job and if you don't have confidence in my ability to do it on time and on budget, you need to hire someone else."

And I did NOT have an exit plan and we needed my paycheck. Thank goodness they didn't take me up on that. But it showed me that I really did know where my line was.

Ooops. didn't mean to yammer on but I will brag one more time. I had lunch at Cheesecake Factory yesterday and checked the menu before I even left home, resisted any desserts and left completely satisfied. Yay for TheInternets!

Good morning SparkFriends,

I have good news on several fronts.

I saw my surgeon yesterday; he said the xrays look good; I can now graduate to a cane, and even drive short distances if I want to. Now we need to buy me that cane!:). He (again) cautioned me against doing too much, and said it's still too early for PT. The bones take 8-12 weeks to heal fully, and he doesn't want to put that type of stress on them yet. So, I'll just have to exercise my patience muscles instead of my leg muscles!

MIL had her surgery yesterday - she had a large cyst attached to a tendon, which was causing pressure on the nerves. The doc said they achieved a great degree of decompression. So, hopefully she'll be feeling much better as she recovers. They may even send her home tomorrow (with in-home help, I imagine).

FIL seems to be doing better as well, with SIL there to be his drill sergeant. We suspect he's got a degree of learned helplessness. That coupled with his tendency to ignore medical issues, is a recipe for disaster!

Dalid, I hope your workload decreases, or at least your bosses become more amenable to a reasonable quitting time.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning!

Poindextra, glad to hear your elders are on track; hope all is looking up.

Yesterday did not feel as productive. After DH and I did our walk, it poured rain till noon. So my plan to power wash got postponed and DH ended up doing it when he got home from work. He never washes the deck though, and it needs to be stained. I was going to do that and stain it myself. It must be done this year, and I want it done before my cousin's visit mid-October. It'll be here before you know it.

I was able to post some items for sale. That takes so much time. And take a big bag to Goodwill.

I'm sore so I think I m getting a good workout. Just different from crossfit.

Nutrition on track. I've been reading about Whole30. Biggest impediment: giving up sweetener and creamer in my coffee and tea and my greek yogurt dessert after dinner. The rest of the plan isn't that much different than the way I usually eat.

Okay need to hit the ground running as this is my last day of vacation.

Hope all have a great day!
