Bea, that sounds like a good walk - you really are doing great!

Bess, I agree, keep an eye on your DH. Head injuries can be tricky, and we all know how people (men especially?) can ignore symptoms. Sometimes there aren't even symptoms, so if you have time, maybe tomorrow could include a quick dr or ER check up?

Nell, it's wonderful when all the decision makers are agreed on what action to take.

I walked at the mall - grey and chilly here, though it turned out my TJ Maxx cashmere cardigan was too warm for walking indoors. But I got in about 3.5 miles, bought DH a new Yankees hat to replace the one he lost, and found a new RIFD card holder for myself.

I usually feel fine, so these random "sick" days are frustrating since I seem to be having more of them. Doesn't sound normal to me.

Good afternoon

I missed church this morning. I wanted to go. But yesterday, I realized it wouldn't work. I hurts to much to be away from iced and elevated knee that long. I told a friend that I would need a recliner to put that knee up. I added But then I'd sleep.

If the church did have one, there is one person at church that would monopolize it and think she would NEED it.

Just a few thoughts.

We walked to the grocery store and back this afternoon. It took 15 minutes ... I can usually do it in 5-10 minutes depending on how much I buy and how busy the story is. Slow but its progress!

Oh no, Bess, on hubby's fall. Do monitor him for signs of concussion. I remember Brooklyn Born's husband hit his head and ended up with a subdural hematoma that needed surgery.

The conversation with the historian sounds delightful!

We took a quick trip to the beach today. The weather is gorgeous.

We also browsed through Barnes and Noble, and MIL mentioned that she can't remember the name of her favorite story as a child. It was a beautifully illustrated picture book with multiple stories, and her favorite was one about "Don't go into the deep dark woods." The little girl's cat chased a rat into the woods, the girl followed, and they ended up spending the night. Bess, does this ring any bells to you? It would be great if we can find a copy for MIL's Christmas gift.

Good morning!

We had overnight guests which was a lot of fun and are now just reading (and posting) by the fire. Iím prepping dinner for a family whose main cook (the mom) had shoulder surgery. Our neighborhood did a great job of organizing meals. They used a meal Ďapí called ďMake Them a MealĒ which is brilliant for getting us to sign up and then remind us of when we are up.

Glad your family was of one mind about you momís placement, Nell.
Donna, enjoy your visit!
And Kellie, fun to see the new digs of your son and dil.
Bess, really sorry to hear your dh fell and who knew a Pyrex pan would explode? I thought we could roast in these, but apparently not safely.
Econ, good to hear you back to cookie craft!
That smoker sounds terrific, Maree. Lots of healthy food prep ahead.
Phebess, get better!
Poindextra, you are kind and so understanding of the Ďhití of losing a beloved pet.

Good morning, it sounds like everyone is having a busy weekend. This is such an interesting group.
Maree so what is the first thing your hubby is going to prepare in the new smoker. My cousin is a hunter and he brought us some moose sausage and pepperoni that he had smoked. It was actually quite good.

Nell, it is good that it was a family decision not to move your Mom into Memory care. You will know when the time is right.

Bess, so sorry to hear that your DH fell. I donít blame you for not wanting to go to emergency. Itís not a good place especially on a Saturday night.
Sounds like you had an interesting afternoon with your visitor. So much history in your area.

Poindextra you are a kind soul.

Kelli, I bet your hubby enjoyed your home cooked meal. Nothing better than a home cooked stew on a cool day.

Today we are going to see our son and dilís new condo. They just moved in last week so want us to see it before I have my surgery. It will be good to have a visit with them.

So sorry about your MIL's dog Poindextra. Very nice of you to bring a card.

Hope mom is doing well this morning Nell.

I'd love to have you guys for dinner Bess. The beef stew was yummy. I am quite challenged in the kitchen. DH is the cook in this house so I try to cook something good for him on weekends. You should have seen the kitchen after I got everything simmering. Cleaning that up was a workout.

It made me happy that he got a large second helping!

I did a little morning yoga this morning. DH wants to go out for breakfast. YAY, I love breakfast out.

This afternoon I'm meeting a running buddy at a PFLAG meeting she and her husband belong to. (parents and friends of lesbians and gays). They are always involved in awareness events so I said I'd like to go with them some time.

Happy Sunday!

Good morning everyone.
Maree - You're in for some tasty meals. Will your DH smoke the turkey this year?
Phebess - Crumbs about this lingering malaise. I hope your primary care dr. can locate the source of it all. Glad you have lots of middle school experience under your belt to help you deal with your darling.
Poindextra - you are a good DiL. Putting down a beloved pet is SO hard. I'm glad you were there for your MiL.
Bea- good for you for getting out for that walk
Econlady - Glad you're under such skilled care.
Kellie - yum! Beef Stew! When's dinner?
Donna - big hugs to you. "S" day can't come soon enough
Nell - oh no! That's terrible for your mom - but thank goodness she has you for an advocate. And yay about her making a friend!
Toni - Enjoy that fire!

Shoutouts to everyone else on the team.

Yesterday a professor from Texas came by to talk with DH about Jamestown. She was so interesting I sat with them and listened. She is working on a thesis about the ties between Shakespeare's The Tempest and the wreck of the Sea Venture on its way to to the colony. (they landed on Bermuda, built two new ships from the salvaged wreckage, and sailed to Jamestown) Conversation ranged all over the place and we had a delightful time. Fortunately, since afterwards we had two wrecks of our own. My Pyrex dish of roasted chicken and vegetables exploded when I added liquid to the mixture half way through. Glass and food all over the stove and kitchen! We cleaned it up and went out to dinner but later in the night DH had a fall and hit his head. Didn't black out but did cut a gash in it. No - we did not go to the emergency room - Saturday at midnight in the ER is a mixed blessing kind of place - and I determined the cut, while pretty big - would heal without stitches. We ended the evening with a long conversation about the importance of moving our bedroom downstairs - falls happen, but I'd rather they didn't happen near stairs.

Today we try, once again, to take the sailboat out of the water.

Maree. I'm so glad your DH and DGD are feeling better!

I was very cold here yesterday, the first morning in the 20s, but it will ease for today. The next big cold shot is Wednesday. Those guys in the condo with the tree through the roof must be freezing. I hope their homeowner insurance pays for alternate housing after a casualty like this, it will be a long repair. The concrete slab will have to be repoured, and the weather needs to cooperate. Once the permits are pulled for the restoration, they won't be allowed to live there even if they are willing to put up with the disruption.

My brother and sister and I decided not to put Mom into memory care. The place is so empty, that's the biggest part of her problem. They cannot insist on the move, they can only discharge her, and since the place is only like 2% occupied, that won't happen.

Off to church in the cold, and after having to lift and lower the garage door by hand.

Good morning!
We have been enjoying fires in our fireplace since DH kept and split two of the four trees that were taken out in our backyard and last night he made a fire in the outside pit. It was such a beautiful evening, with red and purple sunset in the west and a full moonrise in the east.

Both DGD and DD felt fine yesterday and even rode their bikes to the park. It was a beautiful sunshiny day. I should have stayed but had no way of knowing that they would feel so much better. And we had obligations here. Oh well.

Our smoker was delivered. DH is so excited, will season it today (like a cast iron skillet). This is our Christmas present to ourselves.

Bea, congratulations on the walk outside! This will all be worth it, I'm sure!

Econlady, I'm glad you're in such good hands and wish you the very best. I remember receiving a basket of Pilgrim cookies from a neighbor several Thanksgivings ago--my first introduction to your "cookie decorating" hobby.

Nell, good to hear your mother has made a friend. I imagine you'll work closely with her doctors as she settles in.

Kellie, a run sounds good. I may just go to the park where there's always runners to motivate me despite the cold. The bitter cold is supposed to move in tomorrow--so bad they've postponed the Veterans Day parade.

Off to church with DH today. We may need to go to the rental to fix a slow tub drain, then DH is taking Scamp to the Conservation Area to run rabbits. Nice to have him home on a weekend.

Hope all have a great day!
