I weigh in everyday 'cause my doctor says I should start but if I am supposed to loose a healthy 1-2 lbs a week I think I want to start doing a weekly weigh. I also think I need a better scale, mine is the old school wheel in the window thing :) Pictures may be a good motivator but for me it makes me mad to see how big I am now.

I used to weigh myself every morning, but then it started to set the tone for my day- if I lost anything it was great! But if I gained or stayed stagnant for a while it was an awful start to the day.

I try to do it weekly, but sometimes I give in and do it more often.

Lately I've been weighing myself everyday. It helps me know where I am, and if I need to work harder that day to stay on track and exercise. Before I use to weigh once a week, and I have to say that surprise of losing was always a great feeling.

I do the same as some of the others on here. I weigh myself every morning just to keep myself on track, but I do the official stuff every Sunday. I also have one of those scales that measures body fat, and I do that once a week. During the week, I just do the weight. I like the idea of taking pictures.

In this week at 156.8....not exactly the jump I had hoped for, as last week I was at 157.2, BUT I did over do it a bit last Thursday and Sunday, so not overly surprised. Back on track now though, and hoping for a good two pounds out the window by the end of next week.

Every week

I admit occasionally I do weigh myself more than once a week, but it's torture so I try not to obsess over every random pound.

I weigh every day.. However I think I may be addicted to my scale. I often get mad if I don't see a difference, even though I shouldn't be. But I think weighing yourself like 3 times a week will let you see what things are working and what things aren't.

I weigh myself on 3-4 times weekly basis, but only take my Monday morning weigh-in as my "official weight" of the week.

I step on the scales daily, but I only record it once a week. Friday is my "official" weigh-in day, and I take measurements at least once a month, which tends to be more motivating. I just came out of a year-long plateau and started losing again, so I have a renewed excitement about it now.

I weigh in everyday! I love seeing my scale inch down little by little. I'm always extra motivated if I weigh more than I should.

I weigh in daily (except during my period). I know what I should be every morning depending on what I ate. My body doesn't fluctuate much. There was a study that people who weigh in daily lose like 6 pounds more than those who weigh in weekly.

I weigh in weekly. Knowing that a good weight loss is 1-2lbs a week I prefer to see my weight go down in those increments than weighing every day. A bad weigh in does make me feel bad and not motivated. Plus I like having a set day each week that I can work towards, if I know i've had a good week I look forward to seeing if its had an impact on weigh day.

I definitely agree! A bad weigh-in doesn't motivate me to get up and get moving at all! I get really upset and just want to eat cookies ((hmmm...wonder why I put on 25 lbs in the first place?)). I limit my weigh-ins to once a week. And, before I weigh-in, I make a list of positive things (made it to the gym 3 times this week, avoided fast food all week!, more energy in the morning, etc.) ... that way, if the scale doesn't budge, I can look to the list and still be happy and know I am a work in progress!

I'm in the same boat. I think it's just automatic for me to weigh in every day. For me it helps motivate me though. If I see the scale go up, it keeps me from skipping that run that I don't really want to do or eating that cookie I know I shouldn't. So, I never really get a negative from weighing in every day. I just love when that scale goes down though! emoticon

Often I get into stretches where I almost can't help weighing myself daily - I tend to do it right when I get up, so I step on the scale almost without thinking! I think the ideal thing for me would be to limit weigh-ins to 2-3 times per week, but for some reason I find it really difficult to make this happen!

Agree @ CORINAPEDRAZA. You want the weigh in experience to be something to feel good about not frustrated. I like the idea of taking pictures as well to monitor your progress. Makes for a good story if you give it enough time.

For me weigh -in daily discourages and causes me to go off track because I don't see the scale move down..I prefer to weigh on weekly basis..I lose a pound a week, which motivates me..I also don't only rely on the scale I do measurements monthly which is very motivating..the biggest motivation for me is I take pictures of myself every month and I am surprise each time on the difference my body changes even though the scale says I only lost 5 pounds.

I hear mixed things about this topic as well. I personally prefer a weekly weigh in. "Healthy" weight loss can be approx 1-2 lbs a week, depending on how many calories you take in vs burn. So one day you might lose 0.40 of a lb but I'm not sure if your scale can read that can kind of specific weight. Weighing yourself daily might be too stressful over the long term. I personally would recommend a weekly weigh in.

I hear mixed things about this. I hear you don't want to weigh yourself everyday because your body can and probably will fluctuate everyday and that can make people discouraged. However I 've also heard that weighing yourself everyday kind of helps you remember to keep on track. I personally find it better to weigh myself everyday or almost everyday. I have learned that my body fluctuates and has a pattern on how much its fluctuates and so I do not get discouraged when I see the scale go up a little. I find weighing myself keeps me on track and in case I have a bad day and the scale goes up more it kind of clues me in that I need to keep on track. I hope this helps a bit!

Do you find it better to weigh-in every day or every week? Does one motivate you more or keep you on track with your goals? Or do you find it discouraging/encouraging to see the changes?
