I love the idea about splitting my weight loss tracker into 2 parts!! I am definitely making that change right now and I'm also going to get myself a little notebook to carry in my purse. I need to be my own cheerleader this time and do it for me!! It is so overwhelming thinking about 125, thinking about 62 makes it a lot easier!! Thank you for the great suggestions!!

Hi I'm Kara and am 28 yrs old. I have 108 pounds to lose. Right now I'm not focusing on the number I need to lose but instead my other goals. I'm striving to walk everyday, and doing physical activites with my kids. Before them I was very athletic and outdoorsie. So That what I'm working on and the pounds should fall off.

previous ?: How do you see beyond the big picture? When I think of my weight loss goals I only see 125 pounds. I have a lot of trouble breaking down the 125 pounds into smaller sections and knowing I have to lose 125 pounds so overwhelming that I lose motivation and quit. I know I have to take it 1 pound at a time...I just don't know how!!

my answer: great question...im the same way...i used to depend on my husband to be my support, but when i didnt get the over exaggerated "support" i wanted i gave up...i started a little notebook of inspirational sayings...i write ONE down each day and when im feeling un-motivated i read them...also in that little notebook every once in a while i clip a picture from a magazine of a body the same size as id like to be and glue it in one of the pages...it really helps...i use one of the little teeny notebooks so i can carry it in my purse and i know it sounds corny, but it helps...another thing that helps me is going to the sparkpages section and at the bottom scrolling through the people who have lost alot of weight...i saw one girl who lost 80 pounds in 6 months...i dont know if thats possible for me, but the before and after pictures are very inspiring...alot of people lose 100 in a year, seeing that over and over reinforces in my mind that it IS possible, and it keeps me going...another thing i recommend, biggest loser dvds, all the way...they are awesome, and they will kick your butt but i have fun and the hour i do it each day flies by...my favorite diet quote that keeps me motivated is, "a year from now ill be glad i didnt give up today."...hope i helped

my new question: what kind of water do you drink? bottled, tap, purified etc? and why

I am 23 years old and have an entire person to lose! And that person could stand to lose a bit of themselves too. Oof. What a realization! But I'm here and I'm ready to do it!

I'm going to reply to the last question I see I guess and congratulate the two posts before me for being here!!!

"My question is: How do you see beyond the big picture?"

I would suggest maybe splitting it in half? If seeing is knowing that if you look at your goals maybe instead of 125 you could set your tracker and goals for 62 pounds? That way it seems more manageable and when you get there, you'll be feeling great and will want to lose more. You'll be in the mindset, have the tools, and the want to do it! Your tracker won't lose what you've lost, you just change what you want to see at the end.

Not sure if it'll work, but that would be my solution emoticon

Next question: What keeps you motivated to lose weight? How do you keep that motivation on bad days?

The biggest cheerleader in my weight loss journey is either my wife, my mother, or myself. It is great having the support of others but I have found that it can be kind of a double edged sword. For example, if I depend on everyone else to constantly cheer me on if for some reason they don't mention that I look great, or they are so proud of me for doing so well, I start thinking I'm not doing good enough or I'm not doing as well as I thought I was. Being my own cheerleader is a good thing because ultimately if I am doing something for someone else I lose interest and don't care about it anymore. My weight loss isn't for anyone but ME so while it's good to have other peoples support, it is one of my goals to remember that I can't depend on anyone but myself.

My question is: How do you see beyond the big picture? When I think of my weight loss goals I only see 125 pounds. I have a lot of trouble breaking down the 125 pounds into smaller sections and knowing I have to lose 125 pounds so overwhelming that I lose motivation and quit. At first your energy is drained from planning meals, making meals, thinkinf about meals and exercise, exercising, getting up early or going out late to exercise. But I think as time goes on and you do lose weight, you gain more energy. (slowly! lol) But over all it's a good thing.

Q: Do you plan your workouts ahead of time?

A: I have a workout I do at my own pace and when I feel like I need to step it up I do on my own. Its easier if you just stick with what you are comfortable with and then just add more to it or do it for a longer time. And you have to do it more often then you'd like to. I havent got to do a weigh in yet. But it will b coming soon.

I used to think the same way. Its actually not that hard to drink all the water you need for a day. If you go to the store and get you bottled water. Most of them come in 16.9 oz of water in each bottle. You only have to drink 4 of them a day to get your water in. You can also get you some Crystal Light or they have Ocean Spray packets to put in the water which flavors it. And they are only 5-10 calories!

Walking with a friend or listening to upbeat music.

When you are in pain, do you still exercise to keep up with meeting your goals or do you give up on exercise for a while? If you DO exercise still, what kind of exercise do you do so that your pain isn't too intense while you exercise?

PIE!!! I love all types of pie. I just can't seem to stay away but the good kind is sooo many calories between the flaky crust and the filling. Ugghhh.... but I just compensate for it in my calories that day and make sure not to eat it too often. It has to be a treat!!

Do you have a fitness goal that you're too embarrassed to tell your friends and family? If so, would you mind proclaiming out loud here!?

I have soooo many! I am working up the courage currently to tell everyone in my family I NEED TO DO THIS.... I love my family to death but they're such huge instigators! (Friday night beer and wings every week + Pizza every Tuesday? AND I don't have to pay for it myself?!)

OK So back on topic ;)

I've decided I want to run in a Turkey Trot next year. This is going to be hard since I currently don't run AT ALL.. but it should be a motivator!

I also want to go skiing, and surfing. Eek! :)

I don't think I've really figured that one out yet to tell you the truth. I do enjoy reading inspirational blogs and going back to my "Life List" though.

Next Question: Do you have a fitness goal that you're too embarrassed to tell your friends and family? If so, would you mind proclaiming out loud here!?

Question:
How much time to you spend planning food, workouts, etc? Or do you just kind of "wing it"?

I don't wing it....I spend about an hour or two on Saturdays looking for new clean recipes, making my weekly meal plan, and then making my grocery list. As far as workouts go I use my Wii Active Personal trainer. It has a 30 day challenge and has my workouts all planned out for me...it even tells me what days are workout days and what days are rest days. Don't wing it...."If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"

How do you keep yourself motivated even when you hit a plateau in weight loss?

Question:
Who has motivated you the most in your weight loss journey both on the SP site and in your own life as well? What do they do that you find so motivational?

I really am not active on SP so I can't say that someone on here motivates me/etc..

If I had to pick one person in my life who was most motivational, I think I'd have to say my mother in law. In 2004 (before I met her) she had a stroke, which left her paralyzed on her right side (And mind you, she was a thin, 42 year old woman!!). Doctors really had just wanted to get her to the point where she could function well enough in her day to day life, but she's pushed much further than that. She has gotten much more motion back in her leg than any of her doctors ever thought she would and she is still fighting for increased motion in her arm. Basically, she hasn't given up, and she never will.

On top of that, while having limited mobility (without getting exhausted), & taking care of her kids, she went from a size 16 to a size 8! Super woman or what?!

Yes, I count calories, but I also look at fat content, sodium, and lots of other variables.

Of course it affects my workouts, I'd be lying if I said it didn't. Since this week I've been limited to walking, step ups, and incessant stairclimbing since I've been busy at work, I haven't had time for a *proper* workout.

Next question!

(okay so it's two questions...but they really do go together!!!)

This is my second go at sparkpeople and yes I do think this is THE time, even if I fall back with a cup of icecream or whatever ill come back with a kick ass workout and a few extra glasses of water, being active in sparkpeople this time around has given me the motivation I need everyday to get through the day.
So yeah..THIS IS IT!!

Next question: Do you count calories? and how does this influence your exercise routine?

Tae Bo! Just 25 minutes of Tae Bo burns around 500 calories. Love it!
Just posted this and then saw the new question that beat my response, LOL. So...weekends...I like to play with my daughter and relax...when I have a weekend off, that is.

Next Question: How many times have you started/stopped SparkPeople and do you feel like this time is THE time that you will really stick with it?

(BTW - I have started/stopped SparkPeople approx. 3 times - and I KNOW that this time is THE time.)
