Hello my name is Debbie and I am returning to sparklepeople after a three year break. When I started sparklepeople last time I was 5'3 and weighed 203 pounds. I now weigh 164 pounds and would like to lose about 25 more pounds. I think that the cardio idea is great. I hope everyone is doing well

I am new to this... I think like previously mentioned in two different post... if you combine two the ideas sort of... one being that February is Heart month (Valentines day) we should strengthen our hearts and two someone said a Cardio challenge... so we could strengthen our hearts with a cardio challenge... say commit 5 days a week to at least 30 minutes of cardio for the month. Then you would still have time to strength train if you so desired. emoticon

I love all these ideas. I need the accountability or I don't do the exercise so I love challenges.

It's not about getting what you want, it's about wanting what you got.

What about 1 week being a cardio challenge? Lots of idea's for ST, but none for cardio. Maybe like get 600min of cardio for the week or something like that. Love the idea's so far :)

Hi, I joined Spark a few days ago and think it's great. I've got 3 stone to lose and hit 40 tomorrow :--(
A focus on abs with a plank, squat and ?? is so motivating. How about another that works the thighs, so we'd have a legs bums and tums workout?
Happy New 2010 and happy new us! :--)

Hey also, since feb. is Valentine's Day month and "heart month" why not use our hearts and try to do 3 things above and beyond what we usually do to make a differnce in someone else's life....like by giving advice on a blog, or post. paying it forward somehow. Doing gooods deeds in our community you kow stuff like that. Focusing on positives really helps to keep you upbeat and motivated too. Just a thought???

I like the sound of February fitness month!!
Any exercises that can be done without equipment are a good idea, so everyone can participate.
So we could do the plank one week, held squats the next - we could challenge ourselves to add another 10 seconds/more reps each day or something similar?!
My other suggestions are -
bridge ups
yoga poses
hip abduction/adduction (lying on your side leg lifts to me)
lunges (although I personally HATE them)
push ups - wall, modified on elbows or full military style!
and of course crunches!!

Pink, x

How about a 30 second plank challange? Everyone has access to the floor. emoticon

For sparkpeeps new to planks, they can start with 30 seconds.

For sparkpeeps who have done planks in the past, they can challenge themselves by adding 30 seconds to their current time.

How about as a mini-challenge we try to incorporate a new exercise into our routine for the whole month? If we usually use the elliptical, we could try swimming or running for one of our workouts each week to see if we like it.

Hello Team

I want you to post your suggestions as we look forward to choose a Main Goal for February. We have a main goal for January to lose 5 pounds...what do you think should be our february goal? at the same time I want you to suggest 3 mini-challenges that could be set up for each week of the month of february that will help us reach our monthly goal.

Let's see what gets more suggestions...if you simply like something that someone else posted feel free to say so.
