QUES: Great suggestions!

My "screen name" came about because I have one crazy dog! LOL Actually 01 April is his birthday! He is 14. He does sleep a lot, but when he decides it's time to play, he can be like a little puppy!

Good evening,

Zak - beyond the great suggestion that 1CrazyDog (did I mention I would like to hear the story behind that name?) regarding rolling on the tennis ball, when rest resolved your symptoms did you stick with any of the exercises that you learned? Also don't forget your shoes can be the cause of Plantar fascitis if they are not a correct fit or supporting your foot adequately.

Don't negate that even though they are suggesting a third ex session that it has to be specifically walk/run. Do you have access to any other cardio routine: bike, elliptical (no impact), pool to walk in? Do you belong to a church that someone may have ex equipment they no longer use or freecyle web site? If none of those, then what about a seated routine through spark peoples videos that still gets your heart pumping.

Good luck working through these issues, it would be a shame if this deters you but you also do not want to put yourself out of commission entirely. Hope you have talked with the trainers to see if they are able to offer any assistance.

Unrelated but related - first time in two weeks it was nice enough to get out and walk in my neck of the woods. Was a treat after only exercising indoors.

Zak: Ease into it. Realize what they said was a suggestion. Since you have the plantar fasciitis you are right to modify things till you see how your feet respond.

Do you have any exercises to "limber up" the arch of your foot? Roll your foot on a tennis ball. That really stretches it out and decreases the chances of a flare up. Just an idea.

Thank you for the way encouragement 1 and Ques. My legs are sore today - more than I thought they'd be because I didn't run much...but I'll take it because that means I worked them and that hopefully I am building them up.

1 - I hope the meeting goes well for you (and your family). I am also praying that you will find transport (good transport that treats your Mom the way she should be treated). Is there any update as to when the move might happen?

I find myself in a quandary. The class meets twice a week (Mon./Thur.) and they suggest you exercise (walk/run, crossfit, etc.) at least one more day. My quandary is: what ends up getting my plantar fasciitis to flare is a dramatic increase in activity. I walked 1.5 miles on average once per week, so I am increasing to two times with the class - I am worried that if I add the third day to quickly that it will affect my feet. I don't ever want that again if I can help it because the last time it flared up it lasted a little more than two years. I had 9 cortisone shots, physical therapy, taping, and ultrasound, nothing was working until I literally sat on my duff almost all the time, iced my foot, and took an anti-inflammatory religiously. I don't want to have to go through all of that again...BUT...I really want to improve and I know the only way that is going to happen is if I exercise more. So what would you do? My thought was to do one or two weeks at the two classes per week and than maybe add a third day after that. But I am impatient and I have the exercise bug and I want to jump in with both feet (no pun intended *L*) I guess I could incorporate strength training (especially to help prevent the plantar fasciitis from coming back), that way I am exercising but not stressing the fascia or the muscles attached to it. Talking to you guys sure helps me see things a little clearer. Thanks! emoticon

Tuesday – many phone calls yesterday, but making progress. Medicare conference is Wednesday. Requested that the hip exam with the surgeon be moved forward in light of the fall. She agree. (Isn’t that nice!) Sooooo, also have a call out to get information re: medivan transportation from IL to WI. Now THAT ought to be a budget buster, but OMG . . . so worth it!

Nice day till the afternoon . . . got up to 50. The sun was filtered, but it was still SUN. Then we had a brief shower around 4 pm. All in all, not bad!

Late arrival home for Jason. Flight landed after midnight and he got home around 2 am. OY

1 - glad to hear your Mom is eating better. Really glad to hear you made it safe and sound home!

Tomorrow is my first day of class. Today it decided to snow and sleet so the roads are terrible - I am hoping that I don't slip and fall tomorrow. But I am going, no matter what - unless of course if they cancel it. They said they only cancel if there is a danger to the participants - not sure if slipping and falling counts. I'm looking forward to it, can't wait. Been eating a little better so that's good. So far I've had a very productive day. Lots of cleaning done, and I'm helping Frank organize his recipe binder - typing up some of his handwritten recipes. I hope you all enjoy your Sunday.

Sunday – POOPED! DD and I went to IL and visited Mom and Dad. Mom – confused. Eating better, but I’d bet she’s lost 10 lbs. But focusing on the fact she is eating better. Dad – exhausted. Cannot wait till she gets the “all clear” to make the trip up here so I can help!

We made it back safe and sound and I did well doing the whole drive (usually Jason and I split it). A bus almost creamed us as it swerved into our lane. OMG! Clara screamed and I wanted to but nothing came out. Thank heavens I was able to scoot into the right lane. Scary!

That’s about it. DAY OF REST today!

Ali - Thankfully the snow is almost gone - just a few little piles here and there.

Cabaillie62 - emoticon to our little group. You will find some amazing people here.

Ques - You're right, I shouldn't downplay the steps forward I make. It is frustrating to me, I seem to lose the same 10-15 pounds over and over and over again. I am hoping that with taking this class it will get me over this hump and I will lose that weight and then some. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

1 - I hope your trip to IL was an enjoyable one and that you have a safe drive home. It must be hard with Jason gone, I am glad to hear that both of you though are keeping busy - hopefully making the time go quicker.

Not much to report tonight, tracked what I ate and ran some errands but not much else. I hope you all have a great night and a wonderful Sunday.

Hi Cabaillie62 glad you found SP there are great people and resources within the site.

Was glad the sun was shining this afternoon to melt the ice off the roads for safe travel home. Morning travel was an icy adventure that I don't think any of us expected.

Great idea for Ali to wear mens socks - they should definitely not be too tight. There are also socks sold in plus size stores and they cater to a fuller foot for women, just in case the mens are too baggy.

ZaK - your race you signed up for has given me ideas of other types of workouts I would like to try in the future. Don't let yourself get caught up in the "I should, could haves" be proud of the changes you are making now so a year from now you can see what you have accomplished.

And 1 you and yours deserve a SPA day - what a great idea!

Ali: Just a thought, have you considered buying a pair of men's socks that you could just wear @ night if need be? My feet do get cold so I sometimes wear socks to bed. I don't like socks too tight either.

And for sure you would need socks if you put the Vicks on your feet . . . hope you find a solution.

I have heard that works, 1, no matter how weird it sounds, I just have to find some socks. I don't wear them because they're tight on my feet (even the diabetic ones) and I don't like wearing things that are tight on my ankles they make my feet swell up and that's never good for someone with diabetes. But I'm so tempted to try it. I only coughed once last night, YAY *HUGS*

Zak, are you still drinking all the water you're supposed to be? Instead of grabbing food, grab the water, even putting lemon in it? Maybe, if you have to eat, eat veggies? Get rid of all the bad things out of your house, the things you're grabbing to eat, that way the temptation is gone. Or before biting into it, put something you HATE on it (lots of pepper, or hot sauce, or something, so when you try to take a bite, you get that disgusting taste, something you'll remember and it'll deter you next time). I don't know, just suggestions. Happy Birthday to your son, Zak! Make losing weight a simple thing, not hard, you can do this, I know you can, have faith in yourself! You can vent all you want, that's what we're here for!

*L* yes, sounds like you shouldn't have bragged. Hopefully the snow won't stay long ours is gone now.

Ques: I was happy Weds was over, too. Thank goodness! but this year is going much too fast, can't believe March is almost over.

Well, for me, it's some good news, some bad. I wont' bring it up here, I put it on my blog, but I'm still moving forward. Have a great day, everyone, and stay positive.

Zak: Happy Birthday to your son.

Well, we can empower ourselves by thinking about all of this as choices, pure and simple. No matter what "compartment" of life we look @, it involves choices. WE have the power to make those choices AND do have to be responsible for the consequences, good and bad. But things ARE ultimately our choice. Even with challenges, we still have to make choices and have to try to make the best choices possible. Takes time and practice.

1 - ooooo a spa day, sounds wonderful. Glad to hear your Mom is cooperating with PT. Hope you have a nice trip to IL.

Today is my sons 17th birthday. I remember being pregnant with him thinking I was going to lose weight so I could be active with him as he grew up. Since then I have gained 100+ pounds and am worse off than I was then. I figured it out, I have been battling with my weight for almost 28 years, 28 years! Feeling frustrated and a little angry with myself. I will finally take control of my health and do what needs to be done - it's just a matter of when. Am I going to do it now or wait until something terrible happens (heart issues, diabetes, etc...). I make losing weight into the huge, monumental task - maybe I need to change my perspective. Losing weight is really just about choices, choosing healthy foods more than unhealthy foods. Choosing to get off my butt moving more instead of making excuses. I know losing weight is hard work, but I think I am making into something impossible. Sorry to vent. I hope you all have a great day!

Friday – Jason is winging his way to Arizona till Tuesday on business. Soooo . . . tonight . . . Clara and I are having spa night.

Cold! Initially they predicted a warm up . . . but not happening! At least the sun is out and no precip.

Mom had a tired day. But cooperative w/physical therapy so that’s a positive.

Clara and I are going to IL Saturday. Sooooo it will be a long day, but have all I need together.

1 - That definitely makes things harder when they aren't trained to take care of someone with your Mom's needs. I am glad to hear you found a place that is close to your home and has the care she needs. I haven't been tracking, I found it wasn't really helping because I couldn't easily go back and see what I had eaten in the past. So I just started writing down what I ate, what time, and what I was feeling/thinking at the time. Today is the second day of doing this, to early to tell if it is helping - but I am definitely more aware of what I am eating.

I am hoping that the weather holds out for class...I really don't want to be out in snow or rain. Since I'm hoping for that I figure I am going to hope for warmer weather soon too! I'd be happy with temps in the 50's. I know, I'm not asking for much am I? *L* I hope everyone has a great day, see you tomorrow.

The rehab facility she is @ right now does not have dementia/Alzheimer's care, which has made it beyond difficult!

I am looking into facilities here that have it and have found my #1 choice, which is about 10 minutes from me.

Thursday – rain, freezing drizzle/rain, snow in the morning yesterday, but then the sun ended up coming out! Supposed to be a little warmer today. PHEW. Want to get an outdoor walk in.

Feeling like plans are a little closer to being gelled, so that’s a bit of a relief! Ok, it’s a HUGE relief.

Dad is agreeable to stay here and I’ll probably go with choice #1 for Mom’s continued rehab. If and when the time comes they can be together in a condo w/24/7 care for Mom, we’ll do it together, Dad and I. I just have found talking with him that will work best. The facility for Mom is only 10 minutes away, so no problem going there anytime!

Thursday and can see the weekend.

Zak: Are you tracking your food? What should your calorie range be? What is your % of carbs/proteins/fats? For one thing, if you’re not getting enough GOOD fats (like olive oil, avocado) then that inhibits carbohydrate metabolism, which could cause hunger that is not satisfied, because your blood sugars aren’t smooth, stable.

Try keeping a food diary. List in there the time, foods eaten amounts and how you are feeling @ the time. IF you are eating for reasons other than hunger, then food won’t satisfy. I use the HALT method:

Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

Those are basic reasons we eat. IF the reason isn’t hunger, then food won’t fix it and we then deal with what the real issue is. Takes time and practice.

I am just doing research of places in this area and having to make on-site visits for facilities. If home health care is a possibility, I have a place in mind that provides services. Haven’t been able to get information from them yet, but another phone call today, I hope!

Mom – well, I don’t think she’s stable enough to make the 2 hr. trip up here but she’s getting so agitated, that I think problems are brewing. She does pretty well during the day. Confused, but cooperative. But the minute Dad is gone she gets agitated, paranoid, scared. So, gotta get her situated. **SIGH** I feel what little hair I have left is going to fall out!

Ques - thank you. I am going to try really hard to do this. You are so right...socks and shoes are so important - I have enough problems with my feet, going to do what I can to limit problems.

1 - how did you search for at home care go? Is your Mom progressing enough that hopefully soon they can come up by you?

Ali - I shouldn't have "bragged" about out nice weather...tonight we are expected to get between 2-4 inches. ARGH! Oh well, it's Wisconsin, I should've known better than to think we'd have an early spring.

I have been struggling for the last 4 days with my eating...I can't seem to stop eating. I am eating everything and anything again. I just can't seem to set myself straight, I'll tell myself no but I end up eating anyway. I'm not giving up though...I will start fresh tomorrow and I will succeed. I hope you have a great rest of the night and a blessed Wednesday.

Ali: Yes, it's like being "trapped" . . . nothing is familiar, everything is frightening, but yet there's no way to EXPLAIN things to her, because she cannot understand. But we're going to do the very best that is possible.

HUGS and glad to hear you're doing a little better. Sounds really off-the-charts-weird, but have you tried applying Vicks VapoRub to the bottom of your feet (of course, then you gotta put socks on). Honest to goodness, it helps the cough STOP!

1, So glad to hear both the music and the photos help calm your Mom down. I can't even imagine how frustrating it has to be for her, I mean if we put ourselves in their place....wow...it has to be so hard on them. *hugs* Thank you, I did cough a lot last night, enough to get up and use some cough syrup, which helped. Not sure what was going on, but I hated it. *L*

Zak: Thank you, I know, 40 degrees sounds wonderful right now, I'm hoping we get higher temps soon. Wow, what a great deal for clothes, Fantastic, quite a change from what's outside our door. *looks out at the snow that's still there, but smiling because I love it.*

Ques, no need to be sorry, that's alright, I was, too, but I smiled when I saw the snow, just one last blast before the true spring, is all. :D

Have a great day, everyone, oh and 1, good luck and your research for your Mom, I hope it all goes well! *HUGS to all* emoticon

Sorry Ali, I was more than ready for the snow to be done and the flowers to Spring forth. emoticon

Glad to see that even though it snowed all morning it was such a fine layer that areas of the beautiful brown grass are peaking through already.

Zak, I am in awe of the goal that you are pursuing! emoticon Who cares what you wear, as long as your clothing does not restrict you ( I wear my old grubbies to the gym cause they fit and are comfy). You probably already know this but one of the most important pieces of clothing for walking and running are the socks and shoes on your feet, they will support you on your journey.

1CrazyDog, may there be more days ahead of peace and laughs for your family. Sounds like you are all on top of the activities that keep your moms mind stimulated in a good way. Any scents that bring back fond memories for your mom?

1 - It is hard to know what to say to you to try to ease some of the worry, but I have never had to go through what you are going through. But I will keep you (and your family) in my prayers. I hope your Mom sleeps through the night and wakes renewed (even if only for a little while).

Ali - glad to hear you're feeling better. Wow, 8 inches of snow...that makes our 40 degree days not quite so bad anymore. *smiles* We haven't broken 45 yet but I am hoping we will soon.

I was worried that I wouldn't have decent clothes to wear for my class, and although what I got isn't the best it will work for a little while (especially in the beginning when I mostly walking anyway). I found black sweatpants at Walmart for $3 a pair, I also found two long sleeve shirts - only $3 for both. I also bought some Energy Zone t-shirts for $10 each, a little more than I wanted to spend but supposedly they wick away moisture, which I've been told is important. My biggest splurge was for two new sportsbras, I usually spend about $10 for two of them, I decided to get some decent ones at $15 each. That last thing I want to buy is some nice socks, I don't think the ones I have will work very well. I don't think I did to bad, I am hoping by the time I need to upgrade my gear Frank will be back at work and money won't be such an issue. My second class is on Thursday (next week) and it looks like it is going to rain, they only cancel class is it is lightening and thundering out. That's going to suck! lol Oh well, maybe the forecast will change before then. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Ali: Thanks! So thankful for the prayers. They are powerful.

You know, Mom still LOVES going thru photo albums. It really makes her happy. It triggers happy memories for her. Sooooo . . . between that and music, she eventually calms down.

So happy that you're feeling better. The virus is a nasy, stubborn thing!

HUGS back to you, my dear.

Awww I'm sorry to hear that, 1, I hope your Mom does well during the night, I can't say a lot since I've never been through that, but I can pray and hope that things get better. I feel so sorry for you having to go through this, but keep up that positive attitude and hold your Mom tight. Be glad she's still with you and that you can still tell her you love her. Remember the times you used to have together, and the times you can still have. Share those old memories with her, and your Dad, too. *hugs you lots and lots* Take care of yourself, too. *laughing* I'm sorry, but I loved seeing the snow again, I do love the 4 seasons, and was getting used to the bare ground, but when I woke up and saw the 8" on the ground, I had such a big smile on my lips *ducks so I don't get something thrown at me*.

*Waves to Ques* Good to see you here, I love the suggestions for 1, those are wonderful ideas, things like that, I've heard, help a lot. I love them!

Zak: I'll have to sing Happy Birthday to you on our next event, then!! :) if I remember anything then. *L* But if I don't, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EARLY!! I wish I could say the sun was out today, but when it's snowing, it'd kind of hidden. Hard to believe it was in the 60's not long ago, now it's snowing and we've got 8" of snow, and more coming down. We drove into Janesville yesterday, and we had about 2" of snow on the ground, our car was covered, we get to town and no snow anywhere. People were looking at us and our car like we were aliens. *L* so funny. Didn't help that our son was throwing snowballs at us from the snow on our car.

Big CONGRATS on signing up for the class, ALRIGHT ZAK!! So proud of you, you can do this!!

My cold is pretty much gone, still a little there, but barely, thank goodness. Still tired, but I'm so much better.Onward and forward, or the other way around, least both words are there, right? Have a great day everyone!

Monday – Well, Mom started out well, but by the time we left she was “out in left field” and not terribly cooperative. Obviously, no rationalizing with her in that state, but we had to leave. Brother called me later that she went back to bed and resting. I hope she sleeps the night.

Tired, but glad we went. Not great weather today . . . cold and . . . S-N-O-W. ACK!!

Glad your mom had a good afternoon and lucky you that the sun was shining to lift everyone's spirits.

Have you pulled out some family photos for your mom to have in her room? Assume there is a daily calendar some other way to help her keep oriented to location and day of week.
It is a fine line not frustrating her but yet keeping her in the moment.

Remember to keep taking care of yourself, it's the only way you can be there to help your parents.

Zak: Yes, it is physically and emotionally draining! But it is what it is. Day-by-day, with faith, we make it through, right!?!

Good for you for signing up. Don't think about problems! Take it day-by-day and approach it from the angle that you'll enjoy it, get stronger, meet others. Just a thought.

Ali - your next event is on my birthday! I hope your meeting today goes well. I know it is a lot of work but it is because of people like you that such wonderful things happen. We are only suppose to reach 44 today, but the sun is out so that makes up for the temps a little.

1 - I am sorry to hear that your Mom is struggling. I hope you are able to spend as much time as possible with her. I have never experienced Alzheimer's in my life but I can imagine it must be emotionally draining. Make sure you are taking good care of yourself as well as your Mom. *hugs*

Well it is official - I signed up for the class. Including me there are 10 people registered so far, the are limiting the class to 15. I am trying to not really think about it to much, it is just something I am going to do. I can't wait to finish my first 5K which is schedule for June 20th. I am praying that my feet don't act up, I really want to do this. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Ali: My dear you're tired because you've been sick and still pushing (I know how that goes! We ALL do!) But glad that you're on the mend! We need you to STAY that way! emoticon

Saturday – Beautiful, sunny day yesterday. That was the way the first day of spring went. Glad of that. Not terribly warm, but not freezing either.

Mom – still remains utterly confused. I think her confusion was a little less this morning. She is eating better. I think that’s making a bit of a difference.

This morning . . . not so good. She didn't sleep last night. That is just the making for a long day. But not unexpected at all.

So, on we go. Going to visit Mom tomorrow, but can only stay a few hrs. Jason is going out of town later this week and there are several things we need to tend to before he leaves. **SIGH**

HUGS and enjoy the weekend.

1-I hope I don't get this more often, I'm feeling lots better now, but I am tired, not sure why. But least not coughing as much. I have just been running and running the last 4 days non-stop because of that Design Day (which was a flop, even after all the advertising, etc). Way to go on biking and walking, too!! So proud of you! I'm so glad to hear your Mom had a great day on the 18th, least she's working hard at her therapy, that's so important. Yes, that would be a tough disease, but hang in there. *hugs*

Zak: I'm really trying, and that warm weather shocked me, couldn't believe it, I wasn't used to that! If I could I'd send some up to you, hopefully it'll warm up where you're at soon! Great job of walking, congrats!! and Congrats on the weight loss, wow!!! I'm proud of you, too!! I'm also so proud that you're running the C25K, you can do this, and yes that's what matters!! We're behind you all the way!!

Jeanine, I'm so glad you're here to help 1, I've not been through it, and to have someone whose experienced a parent with alzheimer's helps tremendously. You know what 1 is going through, I can only imagine it. thank you. I'm so glad you've got something you enjoy so much; I'm the president/co-founder of a group which built the world's largest accessible playground and most accessible one in the world, in Janesville back in 1993 (we're working to rebuild it now because it's deteriorating), and it is so rewarding. My nephew has special needs.

*hugs to you all* Hopefully I won't be away so long this time, next event is May 16th, but I do have a bunch of meetings, I have one at 1:30 this afternoon in fact. Get so tired of meetings, but I have to do them for the playground. Have a great weekend, everyone. emoticon

1Crazydog take it easy about your mom. I went through this with mine. It really is hard and you will have your ups and downs. Enjoy the good days.

Have not posted for awhile, but I'm now retired. Mom passed away in 2011 and it was hard. Now I'm going through the house and getting rid of things, or keeping things. It does take time. I doing what I love I'm working with children with disabilities helping them with music therapy with a friend. It is very rewarding. Nothing else is new, but I'm glad the weather is finally getting better. I think we might be heading toward spring with a few blimps along the way.

Friday – Tough day yesterday. Mom really is in a downward spiral. This is very tough on Dad. **SIGH** Haven’t talked with them yet this morning, but hope that she had a good sleep. That always helps.

1 - glad to hear the eval went ok. It must be so hard on your Mom and Dad (and the whole family) dealing with such a devastating disease. You and your family are in my prayers.

Today is the day I am planning to sign up for the C25K program. I am more nervous now than ever, eight people have signed up for the class so far, and the fear of being the slowest/biggest are looming large. I can't let my fear make up my mind for me. This is a good thing for me and that is all that matters. I can do this. I will do this. I have to remember that as long as I progress forward it doesn't matter how I compare to the others. (easy to say, hard to believe) I just have to believe that I can progress, I may not being running 3 miles by the end of class but I am certain by the end of class I will be better than I was at the beginning - and isn't that what matters? I hope you all have a blessed day!

Thursday – Well the Medicare eval went just about as I expected. They do see progress in Mom, thankfully, so the days remain untouched. That’s good.

Mom has been begging to come home the last 2 nights, which is really hard on Dad. It takes me about an hr. to get her calmed down, then she’s ok. **SIGH** THIS IS AN UGLY DISEASE!!!

The weather is more spring-y, so that is certainly welcomed.

Lots to organize today, so best get scooting.

1 - I hope the evaluation went well. Glad to hear that your Mom had a good day today.

I had Weight Watchers weigh in today...had a 4.4 pound loss. Yay! I think I might finally be back in the groove of things, back on track. Hopefully I stay there. Time to get settled in for the night, hope you all have a great Thursday.

Wednesday – Mom had a much better day today, so my day was better today, too! Much more cooperative. She gets tired fast, but she’s working hard @ physical and occupational therapy.

Today is Medicare evaluation day. So I have a conference call with the Social Worker. We’ll see how that goes.

Feels good to have my hair back again! LOL

Was surprised that a 30+° drop in temp was not more chilling this am. What a treat that we were in the 60's in the southeast party of WI. Makes me crave those warmer temps for more days outdoors. Great to see all the people out roaming the neighborhood whether on foot, bike or other kinds of wheels.

Ali - glad you are taking care of yourself and getting the rest you need. I want to live where you live, our high temp is only 48. Would be nicer though if it were sunny. Still better than winter weather though, so I'll take it.

1 - happy to see you are taking the steps to get your family up here as soon as able.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day.

While writing I kept thinking that I should go for a walk. So I did. I just walked for about 35 minutes. I increased my distance a little so I am happy for that. My feet hurt so I am going to ice them now and do some stretches. A nice small victory - instead of thinking about it I did it!

Monday – busy day. Getting a realtor lined up to see about the availability of a condo that could be appropriate for them, although I really feel in my heart assisted living is definitely what is needed. So, with that in mind, I do have the facility I visited last week in my hip pocket to move forward as soon as Mom’s medically stable for transfer.

The days are getting longer and the weather nicer. I am so grateful for that right now.

QUES: Definitely documenting and on that path.

Ali: I seriously doubt the staff would treat their own family like that. However, on the flip side, maybe they would if they are truly that uncaring. Sad either way!

Hoping the rest has helped. My DS gets bronchitis a lot when he gets a cold and it just knocks the stuffing out. Plenty of fluids and REST! HUGS too.

Zak, thank you, take care of yourself, I'm glad your cough went away. Don't worry, even if it is built up too much, just imagine the sense of accomplishment, that is worth all the build up in the world!! I'm so happy for you. and thank you for the wishes, I really appreciate the healthy thoughts. *hugs*

Thank you, too, 1, I'm hating this bronchitis, I've not had it since I was a kid and I really don't like it at all. YAY for your Dad saying it on his own, how wonderful!! See I knew it would be positive for you, I just had a feeling!! I am so happy for you!! That is just amazing! God is Great! It always works out for the good. Just keep thinking how much better taken care of your mom will be when she's moved. That's horrible, what if it were their own mother, would they have made her wait that long. You're right no one should ever have to wait that long. God knew this change was needed, and He provided it..Praise Him for this miracle. And thank God you were there with your Mom to help her through this hard time. *hugs*

So glad for the great weather, Heaithy, and that you've been able to get outside. How wonderful, hey, a pound is a pound less that you were, and that is GREAT! Be glad for all and any loss you have!! I'm so proud of you, keep up the great work, you'll get there!!

Qus, you're right that facility should be reported to the state if there are problems like that, great idea. I never thought of that. People could be in danger from such lack of care. That's a wonderful idea.

Sorry I wasn't around, I spent most of the days sleeping, I've been so tired, sorry all. I hope you're all having an amazing day, today, can you believe 70's today? and then a cold snap, yeowch!!

I am wondering if the facility your mom is staying is staffed with primarily contract help as it sounds like they are inadequately staffed. You can report this facility to the state to be investigated if you feel that it is warranted. Having seen family and friends family in NH's it is unfortunately not that unusual to hear stories such as you are describing. Hopefully you will be able to transfer your mom sooner than later.

1 - YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! That is awesome that your Dad brought that up. I am so happy for you (and them!) I am sorry for the care that your Mom is receiving, you are so right that our elderly are treated so horribly. Our elders should be cherished and treated with respect and dignity, not tossed aside like a burden. I hope your Mom get better enough for you to bring her up by you real soon.

Ali - sure hope you're doing better!

Healthy - yeah a loss! awesome! congrats!

1: That place as absolutely awfully care. I hate seeing and hearing about these things it breaks my heart. If I were you I would raise the biggest fuss I could and bring this places awful care into the light of day, and if at all possible find a different place for you mother. I sure hope things get better.

Sunday – got back from IL late last night. BUT my Dad brought up the topic of moving up here to be closer all on his own! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG my brother and I looked @ each other a bit stunned but jumping on this bandwagon while the team is still hitched up!

I could not believe how horrible the service is @ this rehab facility. Broke my heart. Mom needed to get back to bed. Now, mind you, I probably could have done it myself with my brother’s help, BUT she was in a panicked state. It took 8 minutes for them to answer the damn call bell. My brother and I finally snagged someone who said they’d get help. Well, they DIDN’T. My brother approached this person again. Now bear in mind that my brother is an imposing figure . . . . 6 ft. 3 and L-A-R-G-E. He could have eaten this person for a snack! He just glared @ this guy and said, “I am GOING to get help for my Mother now. Are you going to help or not?” This guy so much as indicated he was ‘busy’. Okee dokee then. So I went up to the nurses station and asked for help and someone did come. All I could think of while seething inside was “What if this person was on the ground? Would they be doomed to wait till someone discovered them?” I have the card for both the CFO, CEO and Nursing Administrator (whom I have spoken to on the phone a few times to get medications straightened out!) That’s it for me. NO family should go thru that . . . ever. I just cannot believe the quality of care (or lack thereof) that Mom received in both hospital and at this rehab facility. It is just appalling to me how HORRIBLY especially the elderly are treated. Like they’re disposable. Ok, I need to get off this band wagon before I set it on FIRE!

Thanks for all the prayers . . . I believe He provided this miracle.

Oh my Ali, I hope you feel better soon. The other night I had a fit of coughing at night when I laid down to sleep. Did a couple of "at-home" remedies and it finally went away. I can't imagine going through it as long as you have. Yes a loss is good no matter if it's small or large, it is better than a gain that is for sure. I am really getting excited about the C25K program (hope I don't build it up so much and than it isn't what I had hoped). I have been looking up blogs on plus size runners, and beginning runners, found a couple that look really interesting. I hope you're taking good care of yourself, best wishes to feel better. Sending healthy thoughts your way!

I'm keeping you in my prayers, 1, you can do this!! *hugs and more hugs* you're exactly right, they both need to be safe, and being closer to you, is a big plus for both of them, and you, too. Drive safely!

YAY, Zak, how wonderful, Never let fear stop you from doing this, you CAN and WILL I have all the faith in the world in you doing this. What a great accomplishment it would be. Stay positive we're right there with you, never forget that! And YAY on the loss, grasp every loss, no matter how much, it's a loss!

Sorry about my absence, went to the doctor and I have bronchitis; been coughing like crazy, and sometimes can't stop. It's worse when I try to sleep, and my blood pressure was 191/61 when I was at the doctor yesterday (but I'd just finished coughing up a lung, too. What an odd reading. Not to mention I'd not taken my meds, either.)

I just feel like death warmed over, slept most of the day today, when I wasn't waking up coughing, I'll probably put this in my blog *L* oh well, what can I say.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and enjoys this beautiful weather. Stay positive and smile! emoticon

I had a small loss yesterday for the week (.6 pound) but I'll take it. Especially after the Girl Scout cookies I ate this past week. Hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather, have a great weekend!

1 and Ali - The doctor was excited for me to do the C25K program. I am pretty excited myself (not to mention really scared). I can't let my fear about new things stop me from trying so I am going to do it. I decided why wait, so I went for a 30 minute walk outside today. It was a little cool but I enjoyed it. I don't really have the right "gear" for it but I'll figure something out. They said to wear layers - I really don't have anything to layer. I think I'll hit the resale shops and see what I can find.

I have weigh in tonight with TOPS - I think I may have a loss (I hope). I'm finally starting to get back on track with my eating and activity level. Have a great night!

Zak: I hope you get clearance for the C25K program, too. Fingers crossed.

Ali and Zak: Thanks for the good wishes. I think I will have to put on my “salesmanship” pants to sell this, but really . . . they BOTH need to be safe/.

I hope your dad likes it, 1, sounds like a wonderful place, maybe focus on how close you'll be living to it. I wish you the best!! *hugs*

Zak: Arent they delicious? I just love the flavored teas, without the extra calories. Mmmmm. Alright for you, way to go, keep up the great work, and keep us upsdated on the C25K. Keeping my fingers crossed that the doc says it's alright for you!!

Have a beautiful day, everyone, and share those wonderful smiles. Remember, you never fail if you try, so let's keep trying!! *hugs to all*

Healthy - great job getting the walk in! It is so much nicer to have a partner when you walk, unfortunately I usually don't and then I give in and don't go. That is one of the reasons I think the C25K program at the Y will help, I won't be doing it alone.

1 - I hope the tour goes great and you're able to get her in to it. I'm glad they're working with your Mom, it must be hard to go from able body to being told (by people or your body) that you can't do something. Praying she continues to do well.

Ali - I dared to try a sampler of different flavors of tea, so far I have liked them all. This tea thing is growing on me. I hope your cough goes away soon, it is definitely bothersome when you're trying to accomplish something and you keep coughing.

I am about 80% sure I am going to do the C25K program. I am waiting to hear back from my doctor to she if she thinks physically it is something I can do. I've gained a lot of weight back and I'm back up to almost 300 pounds. I hope she says yes because I kinda already have my heart set on doing it. The doubts are still there but I think this could be good for me. I made a list of pros and cons and most of the cons were all in my mind, so I am trying to get out of my own way. I hope you all have a wonderful day...it's nice and sunny here - going to go out and enjoy it.

post script - took the tour. Looks like it's going to fit the bill. Finances will have to be addressed, and Dad is not going to like that, but it is what it is! It would be a safe, stimulating environment for Mom and if they can be together there, which they can, so much the better.

Major bonus points - I can be there ANYTIME as it's 5 min. from home for me. Soooo . . . now to "sell" Dad on it.

Heaithy: It's so good, the only kind I drink anymore. Isn't this weather great!! Can't get used to it, but I will!! So glad to hear your sister wanted to walk with you, how wonderful, keep up the great work!!

I haven't tried garbling with salt water; used to do that for a sore throat but not coughing, think I'll do that after I get off here, thanks, 1. So glad to hear things are going well for your Mom, her wanting to put more weight on it, sounds like she's trying to get moving a little quicker than she should be, but so glad to hear she's willing, that's a huge positive!

Alright on the appointment for the tour, I hope it goes well, too and things turn out great all around. Glad to hear you got your walk in, how wonderful! And thank goodness for quiet days! :)

Have a great day, everyone, still coughing here, hard to exercise when you have to stop and cough, what a pain. Wish this stuff would just go away, but keeping my fingers crossed!
