Played bridge at a neighbor's last night. So nice. I'm getting out a bit more and socializing. It's taken 3 years. emoticon

This weather is beautiful but rather cool. Uh oh, if it feels cool not what will it feel like in January?

Ran errands and made some phone calls tonight, so the treadmill had to wait....
Made Spinach Alfredo Lasagna for supper tonight. It was really good - not a diet friendly meal, but usable if portioned out correctly. The other servings are being froze tonight for later use.

Hope everyone had a good day. Time for me to end my night.

OH yes, the cold weather makes the bed seem so much more cozy and hard to get out of in the winter. **SIGH**

(((ALI))) So many curve balls in life. **SIGH**

My Mr. Spot the Wonder Dog lets me wash his paws when we come in from winter walks to get the salt off his paws. Tried booties but he will not wear them.

Love outside vs. inside treadmill walking. Oh well. We do what we gotta do, right!

I still need to see a hairdresser. I haven't had a haircut since my kid sister's funeral in June 2014. One of these days.
I am enjoying the walks, too. Now that the weather is cooler and the dog is feeling better we are going on the longer routes. We have to enjoy them now because once the sidewalks get ice/salt covered we will be back to just using the back yard. The ice is okay, but she licks her paws a lot so I can't let her walk on the salt and chemicals that get put down.

MPotter, glad to hear you slept better, I know that feeling of when it's cold and not wanting to get out of bed...I do that in the winter a lot :D Glad you didn't listen to yourself about not walking the treadmill, great job!

1: YAY for the walk outside, I love that so much more than walking inside. I'm so happy for you, and the fact that you and Mom get to pamper yourselfs with the hair appointment YES!! ((((((((1)))))))))

Phyllis: What good news that you were listened to, and can relax..that is wonderful news, and I'm so glad things went well. As others have said, keep being that Mama Tiger for your Mom, she needs it. I'm so proud of you.

I got bad news via FB today, but I'll leave that to my page, in the meantime, have a great day and see you soon!

Phyllis: Welcome to the good-things-come-in-small-packages club! LOL

I think sometimes people think since I'm "diminutive" they can walk all over me! uh . . . . NOPE.

I once had a teacher tell me things about my son that just finally got me so angry that I stepped on a desk stool right nest to her (she was 6 ft. and standing), pointed my finger at her and said, "Don't you EVER say those things to me or any other parent again." She was speechless! AND she wasn't there the next year either! HA

LEE: KUDOS!!!! You did a wonderful job advocating for your Mom. It is NOT EASY. And yes, my experience has shown that they try to have as many professionals there as possible and that kinda stacks the deck a little but YOU DID IT!

Proud of you. Keep being that Mama Tiger, honey! They'll hear you RAWR, just like they did me. I think they figured that since I'm 4 ft. 10.5 in. and 100 lbs. soaking wet, I would be a little wallflower. Boy, did THEY have me pegged dead wrong! HEE HEE I was/still am a Mama Tiger! go us!

Ditto to all that was said. You people are AWESOME!

The administrator let me know that she was including the social worker (who I had already talked to) and the nurse. So hubs came along to back me up. Turns out I didn't need it. He said I was like a mama tiger defending my young. I also let them know that I had considered figuring out a way to bring her back home. Possible but not practical. The thing that stops me is that they have more diversions for her, and she is finally taking part in many of the activities. Mom is not communicative most of the time, so now they know to watch her better, and not ignore it when someone makes a request on her behalf. In order to take her home, I would probably have to get a different house that is all on one level. She is much weaker than when she left and would not be able to do the steps like she did.

But I left feeling that they had heard me and I slept much better last night. Thanks for all the kind words.

Wednesday – getting our hairs cut – Mom and I. YEAH!! PAMPERING!

Chilly weather. But loving it.

HUGS!

Gail: For sure we are all strong and kindred spirits! That’s what makes us AWESOME!

Yes, being caregiver means putting life on hold, BUT one thing I refuse to let slide is taking SOME me time each day – even if it’s just 5 minutes. I need that! And I do my exercising throughout the day and ST @ night when Mom and Dad are in bed. For sure, whatever decision a family makes you cannot judge, because you are not in their shoes! That’s true in life across the board.

I too believe sometimes what life has to throw @ me is overwhelming, but with prayer and meditation, I push on. That’s all you can do. AND ASK FOR HELP. That’s been key for me. How we life our lives, what we give in return for what we receive – for sure that is all our legacy. We just never, ever know how we can turn just one person’s life around with one kind word or deed!

Cool on seeing 10 pheasants! I have been seeing wild turkey.

Phyllis: My dear, you will make the right choice. Start w/having that conversation w/the nursing home management and go from there. That’s why my Mom and Dad are here – there was NOTHING that helped improve the care Mom was getting and I could see that it was going to just get worse. She’s so much better here. That’s my experience and I am glad for it. Doesn’t always work that way!

Ali: I was relegated to the treadmill and stepper yesterday morning, too. But did get a walk in later outdoors! HURRAY

M: Sleep is healing, so go for it!

Phyllis: Vent away! We are here for extra support. Good luck and I hope things went well.

Slept better last night, but didn't want to get up this morning! I think it is a combination of the cooler temps in the house, and being behind on sleep. Decided it was more important to let myself sleep in the morning, and walked on my treadmill right away after work. I was trying to talk myself out of it on the drive home, but I didn't listen :)

Going to try for another early night to help me along. Have a good one!

Phyllis, that's what we're here for, vent away, we're here for you. I pray and hope things go well with talking with management. Talk to 1, she has her parents home, so she may be a huge help. So glad you got to see a fox, they're so beautiful aren't they?

Gail: That we are and I love it. We're in this together, all working towards the same goal, and it's so nice to have others to talk to, even if some of us aren't here as often as I used to be.... (notice the "I", yep, talking about me). I love being able to look outside and see wildlife, pheasants are soo cool. We've got a pheasant farm not far from here, but it's rare we see them..instead we see our group of wild Turkeys that like to wander around here..and deer, so beautiful. I love nature! *hugs*

1: It was raining until about 10 am here, so I couldn't go out and walk..well I could have but then I would have gotten my shower early. *L* I'm glad you got to see the blood moon, wasn't it beautiful during the eclipse? Wish my camera would have gotten a good pic of it, and the clouds hadn't covered it. But at least I got some. *hugs*

I hope you all have an awesome day and smile, or try to, share one with others, and you'll be happier.

Neat that we get to see such wildlife in the city of Madison. Last week I finally got to see our local fox, after hearing about it for 12 years. (probably not the same one).

Today hubby and I are going to the nursing home to talk with management about some of their protocols. Can't let the needs of the system have priority over needs of residents. I must have recovered from the stresses of caring for my mom while overseeing my sister's death and settling her estate, because I am considering figuring out how to bring Mom home. With the right equipment and in home help, it could be done. But is it a kindness to her? I hate being responsible!
Thanks for letting me vent.

Good Morning:

Boy, we are a chatty group, and if I may say so, a group of kindred spirits. So good that we can confide in each other and bare our inner thoughts. Sharing like that takes guts and also reflects our mutual trust.

Phyllis: So generous of you to share your winnings with a charity. Think of all those who will benefit from your donation. Think of all the smiles and happiness it will bring.

Crazy: I was the sole caregiver for four years for my husband and if I told you it was rough I'd be lying....it was unbearable and my own life was on hold. My physical, mental and emotional life took a big downturn but I persevered. By the time Vic died I was relieved. If anyone puts a loved one in an assisted living or nursing home I don't judge them. You have to have lived through being a caregiver for a long time to understand the demands, the anguish and the fears. How vividly I recall awaking in the morning and looking to see if Vic was still alive. Death scared me for a long time. I'm better, or at least I think I am better now when I think about death and all it encompasses.

I respect what you all believe and feel you are entitled to your beliefs, but I, for one, don't believe God only gives us only what we can handle. I believe that some of us are strong enough to give a special gift to make a huge difference in someone's life and that is a good deed of epic proportions that is the nutshell of our immortality. The differences we make in the lives of others and the impact it has in this life on others is our legacy. Once, when I was a child, I was at a public pool. I could not swim. Somehow I lost my grip at the pool's edge. Yes, I went under. A boy of about 12 grabbed me and saved my life. If he hadn't done that I probably wouldn't be alive today, and whatever good I have done in this life would never have come to pass. And so, in my mind, his immortality lives on.

OK, enough philosophy. Wow! I just looked out my window as I was typing and saw about 10 pheasants roaming in my neighbor's front yard. What a sight!

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

Tuesday – Really gorgeous day out yesterday. Had my early morning walk and since it was still dark, got to see the blood moon again. Only it was not as red as it had been when the eclipse happened. Today . . . . relegated to the treadmill. Rain, rain, rain.

Wishing you a terrific Tuesday.

Phyllis I agree, He doesn't and when it seems like He does...what you go through makes you stronger and wiser! :)So glad your Mom enjoyed the music and little furry visitor, how wonderful. Love the Ole and Lena Joke, hilarious. Thank you, too I never feel i'm doing enough, but I love helping others, that's what makes me happy! (sorry, i just got your donation today) Oh my gosh, I just got your check, you are an amazing Woman, for caring so much for the Accessible Playground. I have no words to say how much your donation made to our cause...I wish I could give you a hug in person, you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much, and bless you!! *hugs hugs hugs*

1: Thank you, we just wanted a place for Camden to play..and God lead us the rest of the way. Glad to hear Karen's feeling better, keeping everyone in my prayers. Stay strong, you can get through this, it's really tough, I remember going through brain cancer with my Dad, and it was very hard...especially to say goodbye, but you know what? I don't think I'd have had it any other way. We had time to spend with him before he moved on to the next level, which is Heaven to me, and know he's watching us, every day. Sending you lots of hugs, I'm here for you, my friend. Glad you got a break by taking your Parents out to eat, that's great. You're always in my prayers and your family. Enjoy all the time you can with your Parents, and try to smile. If you can't, I'll smile for you! *HUGS*

Gail: So glad you're taking yoga, it's wonderful for relaxation, I've found. I'm sure you'll love it, and the price is right! Way to go! (can you tell I'm reading from the top down?) Thank you so much. I know, but now things are really moving forward with accessibility, thank goodness. You are an angel for helping others like that, getting more accessibility in the UW-system and all associated with it. Thank you so much!

MPotter: YAY on the 2 pound loss, that's wonderful news!! Way to go!

Sorry about not being around so much, I've been so busy, but I'm loving it, too. Thank you all for your support, that means a lot to all of us, I have such a wonderful group of people here, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I didn't get a chance to see the blood moon due to my early bedtime...LOl We did see the moon when the alarm went off at 3. You couldn't see the red one, but was still neat all the same.

It was a long day. Hubby only slept 1/2 hour last night, so I am sure he kept me up on some unconscious level He was just so worried about if his truck would make the maiden voyage down to his work safely. We never did get any down time for relaxing with all the extra we had to do for the unexpected car trouble. It always makes it harder to get back into the week sometimes.

1CRAZYDOG - You are going through so much right now. I will admit that I am not sure I would be able to handle it all. You are so strong, and we are all here to help you through it! Sending prayers, love, and hugs your way!!

Going to be an early night for me! Have a good one!

OMG! They say God doesn't give you more than you can handle, but sometimes you wish he didn't trust you so much. All that illness and hardship in your life, you are a saint. So happy that you are able to appreciate the small victories and the pleasures that you are still able to give to your parents. My mother really enjoys the time she gets to spend with my dog. Yesterday she curled up on the bed with the dog and the rest of the world didn't matter. I let them be for about an hour. I had to stay in the room or the dog would have followed me out. It's too bad she can't have the dog all the time. Between that and her music, she is in heaven.

Okay, an Ole and Lena joke:
Ole and Lena were on their honeymoon and were driving to St. Paul. Ole put his hand on Lena's knee. She said "Ole, we're married now, you can go further."
So he drove to Duluth.

Monday – Karen feeling better. Still awaiting news re: dialysis schedule and all the details.

Meanwhile, my cousin Genny called me. Has been battling Adenocystic Carcinoma (essentially a salivary gland cancer). She has had multiple tumors in her lungs, which is a typical place for it to spread. Now she told me a shadow on her liver showed up on her CAT Scan on Thursday, so now awaits news.

You know, I am really finding it tough to swallow all this horrid news, but am keeping my faith and praying.

We did get Mom and Dad out for supper so I had a break from KP. That was a nice thing. Mom was much more relaxed, which was also really good.

You know, life throws events our way that you just can't make up! Humor . . . . need lots of it. Smiles . . . definitely helps. Prayers . . . required, along with a healthy dose of faith! Friends like y'all . . . . that's pure gold.

Hugs and smiles just because . . . . you're special . . . . you're YOU!

Gail: OMG thank you for sharing that story about your Mom and pumpkin pie. We took my parents out for supper. She ordered just a plain hamburger (that’s her “thing”.) She had waffle fries. Usually she’ll eat about ¼ of it and box the rest. That’s all right. OMG, yesterday she ate ½ the burger and boxed the other ½ and the French fries that were left to take home. Later that evening she asked to have them warmed and ate every bit of those leftovers! She NEVER eats like that! I was go glad. She, too, lost a lot of weight, but is not putting it on a little more. Thankfully. Dad enjoyed it too!

Mom loves when I brush her hair and dry brush her skin. Definitely the sensations are what makes her happy. So . . . I do it!

Hope you enjoy the yoga.

Good Morning:

Signed up for the Yin Yoga classes in October and am looking forward to it. It's 1 time dollar for each session.

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend.

Gail

Crazy: Yes, aging is not for chickens. I listened to an interesting lecture on TED yesterday on my IPad. It was about the things that are really important at the end of life. The doctor who gave the lecture said the thing that most people were afraid of was suffering...very understandable. But he also said the things that are most important are those that make us feel alive and connected to the universe. It is those things that appeal to our senses: taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. It made me think back. When my mother was dying of cancer we took her to a restaurant one weekend. She was hardly eating by then and was thin as a rail. She ordered pumpkin pie...very unusual because she wasn't into sweets. Anyway, I shall never forget the look on her face when she tasted that pie. She was living in the moment and was in ecstasy as she closed her eyes and tasted the pie. It occurred to me, why wait till I'm dying to enjoy things to their fullest and live in the moment? Why not focus on some one thing each day?

1: How stressful to deal with those free floating anxieties. You feel worse than she does, which is bad enough. While she was still home, Mom was getting difficult to move to and from her tub/bathroom. Her vision is so poor, she was afraid she would fall if she took a step, even with another person on either side of her holding her up... Thank you for making me feel better about putting her in a place where she feels safe.

I am managing to not regain pounds, even though I am not eating as well as when I got back on the program. My morning routine is still good, but the switch to fall comfort foods means my husband is starting to serve more fried foods. He thinks if he bakes them it isn't as bad, which it is not, but when you are talking tater tots and fish sticks....but he is trying so hard. At least he no longer fixes weekend brunch heavy on bacon. Or, he doesn't take offense if I leave him to eat it by himself.

M: good on finding the truck!

Good luck w/those last 2 lbs. You can do it!

Sunday – busy day yesterday. Hope to catch a breather today.

Talked w/Karen yesterday. Feeling somewhat better. Talking w/the kidney dialysis specialist today to find out the road map for future treatment.

Mom unfortunately had a really horrid day yesterday. She has these free-floating anxieties, gets fixated on them and it’s near impossible to get her through it. BUT Dad and I did yesterday. We’d planned on going out to eat to get Mom and Dad out of the house, but she did not want that. So, Jason and I did get out and I needed it.

This morning it is really nice outside. Got an early morning walk in and that starts the day on a good note.

Spending the day doing weekly chores - laundry, lunches for the week, dinner planning...
Going to bake hubby's favorite cookies today - toffee chocolate chip, and also do some paper shredding of accumulated junk mail, etc..

So glad we found that truck yesterday for hubby!

Lost two pounds this week - only two more pounds to go and I am back where I was when my busy month started!

I got up early Tuesday through Thursday for a 1 mile walk on my treadmill. It felt good to be fitting in my exercise This morning, I walked around 7, just like it done and out of the way :)

Hubby had car trouble Thursday night. He determined on Friday afternoon that it was unfixable. Spent last night and most of today searching for a vehicle online. We didn't want another car payment, so we were looking for a decent small pickup truck for him that was reliable for his 3 hour commute to work. You wouldn't believe how many are out there with tons of rust and they were still asking $3000 or more! We did look at one this evening and brought it home. Such a relief!!

My meal planning went well this week, and I stayed on track. We stopped at Long John Silvers last night, but still tracked my calories. I had forgotten how greasy that stuff was!!! I won't be back. Tonight, we stopped at a bar/grill restaurant to celebrate hubby's new ride. I had cajun shrimp skewers with roasted root vegetables and a baked potato. It was delicious!! Too bad it was a special and not something you can get all the time :)

1CRAZYDOG - Keeping your family in my prayers and sending hugs your way!

Yes, I cook and freeze in individual portions all the time!! My husband works out of town four days a week. I don't cook much when he isn't home!

Hope everyone's Saturday went well. Have great night!

Saturday – Played Mom Taxi yesterday for Dd. Didn’t get all I wanted to around the house, but it’s another day! HURRAY

Gorgeous weather. Have to finish the lawn today. Glad to spend the time outside.

I have to take a breath right now. I just received a text that Karen is in the hospital on emergency dialysis. Kidney function is crappy. With the lymphoma she was not eligible for the transplant list . . . . the only cure. The dialysis specialist is trying to get her on the list as her lymphoma, unlike her kidneys, has been stable. PLEASE say a prayer for her. She does not deserve this. Well nobody does, to be sure, but it just hurts my heart and soul.

Gail: Cleaning day and laundry day here. What fun, eh! LOL

YES I do big batch cooking when I can so there are meals-ready-to-eat in the freezer. Works well.

Have fun w/your lunch.

LOVE that idea of the TimeBank. Wish they had that here.

Phyllis: good job on getting things done for the house. That’s a wise use of $$$.

Having a friend over for lunch today. Haven't seen her in a few years. Such a nice, thoughtful lady. I'm really looking forward to it.

Here in Dane County WI we have a TimeBank. Basically, it's a barter organization. You get paid or pay in time, not currency. If you mow someone's lawn for an hour they "pay" you 1 time dollar. If you need someone to take you to the supermarket for 45 minutes, you "pay" them .75 time dollar. It's a great system and the people who belong are wonderful. I just got a message from someone who is offering a Yin Yoga class. Have any of you heard of such a thing? Got to check it out.

Enjoy the weekend.

Ali, I am so impressed with not only what you did, but that you continue over all these years!

Gail, I am probably going to share some of the $$ with the CAMDEN Foundation. I for sure am not going back to the casino for awhile. I don't want to give it all back to them. But we are getting some work done on the house, new glass in some of the windows and some repainting. There is always something with a house.

I have been trying to eat plain yogurt. I read where cumin is supposed to make it even more beneficial. What I found is that the cumin makes it more palatable. It takes the sour taste away. Here's to getting healthy.

Sherry: What a wonderful thing to do! Back in the 1970s I was a budget analyst for the Wis. Dept of Admin and pushed through all kinds of capital development in state parks and forests, the University system, offices, etc. that had handicapped access. It was pitiful that so little existed at that time. Thankfully we've come a long way.

Phyllis: Wow! What a haul. Got any plans for the $$$$?

Potter: Good job with the pizza. I'm sorry about your sinus problem. Have you ever used a Neti Pot? You can get them at the drug store. They work well and will clear your sinuses.

Today is cleaning day. There are days when I just don't want to cook. If there is something prepared I'm more apt to stay on track. I've been cooking this week and freezing in single portions. Yesterday I made chili. Do you guys do that?

1: YAY, sounds like everything is going good for all of you, that's wonderful news, it's about time you had some good things happening constantly! *HUGS* I lvoe the googly eyes, thanks for watching out for me!!

Harplute: I'm the President/Co-Founder of CAMDEN Foundation, Inc. Back in 1993 my bro-in-law and I got into a phone conversation which ended up with our group building the world's largest accessible playground and most accessible playground. We raised $360,000 to build a playground that, with donations, is worth over $650,000 according to the city and architects who designed it. It was built by close to 3,000 volunteers and took two phases, the first, a tot lot, was completed on 10/4/1992, and the larger area was completed on 5/23/93. (I remember those dates because the Oct 4th is my birthday and the 23 of May was the day I was graduating from college, but couldn't make my own graduation because our dedication for the playground was that day. We're raising $360,000 in order to rebuild this playground which changed the way playground equipment companies make accessible equipment, and is now used by all children. Also adults with special needs can go to the playground with their children and the elderly take trips out there from nursing homes. It is the model for over 200 playground worldwide now, including Holland, Germany, India, Russia, Canada, and all across the USA. There are a couple in/near Madison even modeled after it. It's also known as "The Castle Playground" in Palmer Park. :)

Good luck in finishing the boat and getting all the errands done, I hope you succeeded.

Leeword: Congrats on the winning, I'm so happy for you, and glad your Furpup is back to her old self!! That's wonderful.

MPotter: Way to go on saving 3/4 of the pizza, keep it up, you are doing great!!

I've been busy again today, but getting a lot done, I hope you all have enjoyed with wonderful weather. Have a wonderful tomorrow and weekend!

Spent the afternoon at my local yarn shop doing some knitting. I haven't been there in 10 months. It felt good and it is always nice to chat with people you share the same interests with :)

Easy dinner night - frozen pizza. But, I only ate 1/4 of it. I'll be freezing the rest for a later date.

Sinuses are still wearing down on me, but I do think I am getting better. One more day of work, and then I can rest a bit on the weekend.

I seem to have shaken my early bout with the winter blahs. Winning $940 didn't hurt, and having my sister come in and visit with Mom made me feel less alone. Dog is back to her old self. (Emphasis on "old) and running up and down the stairs with apparent ease. But I got a harness for her with handles on the rump and shoulders for lifting comfortably if we go through this again.
Here is hoping that everyone is in a good space. Enjoying nice weather and preparing for another holiday season. (On our walk today we saw a house all decked out for Halloween). Stay well.

emoticon Feel Sleepy though I had a good night's sleep. That ever happen to you?

Had a really nice visit with a sweet lady who works at Willy Street Coop here in Madison. Got to know her a lot better. What a woman. Despite the lemons that have filled her bowl she always seems to have a smile on her face. Wow! People like that inspire me and I'm happy to say I've known quite a few.

Want to finish a book today and run some errands. Hope I get my butt out of the house. Still haven't been able to work up to regular exercise. Any of you who live in Madison or Middleton interested in a walking buddy for about 30 minutes 3-4 times a week? If you are or know of someone please let me know.

Gail:

Phyllis: Wonderful that you won some $$. What a lovely surprise. Glad you enjoyed your time with your sister.

Sherry: What is the organization you are involved with?

Crazy: Sounds like you were really on the go yesterday. Amazing that the doctor was able to get your DD in on the same day she called. Will miracles never happen?

Z: Hope your day is going well.

Occasionally, airline attendants make an effort to make the "in-flight safety lecture" and their other announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

"There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane..."

Pilot - "Folks, we have reached our cruising altitude now, so I am going to switch the seat belt sign off. Feel free to move about as you wish, but please stay inside the plane till we land ... it's a bit cold outside, and if you walk on the wings it affects the flight pattern."

And, after landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride."

Thursday – What a day! Had my eye check up which went well. 20/20 vision. KUDOS! No re-check needed for another year. I’ll take it.

Got home and Mom wanted me to curl her hair again. That took about an hr. Then DD calls and says she needs to get a physical. The Dr. was able to do it today and she wanted me to go with, which I did. All is ok.

By the time I got home, it was time to prepare supper. SHEESH. So, seriously behind, but will get things done today.

HUGS and hope y’all had a good first day of Autumn. Gorgeous here.

Ali: I know, I know! Busy-ness. That’s why the googly eyes watching you! HUGS

Will continue my vigil! LOLOL

Coloring books for adults (and actually anyone w/anxiety or other disorders related) are wonderfully calming. It’s BIG right now. Mom loves it.

Gail, Phyllis, M – hope you’re having a good day.

Hugs one and all. Here’s to Thursday

1: Thank you for making me laugh, I love that you're watching me, I'm trying to stay out of trouble, just so busy I can't breathe sometimes, figuratively. Seems like I'm fighting an uphill battle to be able to get back here very often, and I feel so guilty because of it. I'm so sorry, everyone, darn rt just won't let me go. I wondered about the color books, glad she enjoys them, what wonderful news! Hmmmm you sure you're not a hairstylist in disguise? (((((((1))))))))

Leeword: I'm so glad you got the rain to help your iris' set before winter, there is a positive then. :) Thank you for pointing it out. Glad to hear your Mom was in good spirits last week, and you're right about your furbaby..15 is a long time for a dog to live, but it's still hard to put them down. I wish you the best in your decision. Glad the meds are helping her. Wow, your Mom is resident of the Month, how great! Congratulations to her. Good luck on the casino trip, I hope you win big..or at least stay ahead! Oops, just read that you did well at the casino, so YAY!

Harplute/Gail: Glad to hear the movie was so good, I'd wondered about that one. As for your Granddaughter, brag away, we love to hear how happy it makes you to share things regarding your family. How wonderful for her and you to get to talk on the phone. Congratulations. So glad you're getting help in regards to the loss of your husband. My Dad passed in 2012 (2/10/12), and it is hard, but probably harder for my Mom; as it is for you. Do what you need to help yourself, sometimes we forget about "us", because we're so busy worrying about everyone else.and that's never good for "us". I wish you the best. Oh, and my first name is Sherry.

MPotter: Wow sounds like you had a great time, good for you! Keep up the great planning and you'll succeed! Hmmmm that grilled chicken taco salad sounds delicious. I hope you're able to get back in line with the diet, we're right here behind you! I hope the new walking time works out for you! Excellent news on the Endocrinologist front; I'm so proud of you!!

Zak: Sorry to hear things aren't going the best...if you need to talk, just message us, we're here for you! *HUGS* It's always good to see you.

As for me, I have been really overrun with things I've had to do in regards to the organization; preparing for a craft sale, making lots of candles. Contacting people/businesses in regards to the rebuild; giving speeches to organizations, doctor's appointments, meetings. You name it, I'm lucky I can sit down at all. Starts again tomorrow, so you all take care of yourself...and 1, I can feel you watching me, and I love it!! emoticon

MPOTTER, I am coming over to your house to eat! It all sounds so delicious and yet healthy.
Here's hoping that the exercise makes you feel so good that you WANT to keep doing it. And whoopy on the 20 pounds.

Zaknee, hope things get easier soon and all works out well.

My sister must be my lucky charm. I don't go to the casino on my own, but she takes me and I come home much better off than I left. She didn't do as well, but she had fun. And I stayed within my calories today. So it was a good start to autumn.

Got up the last two days to walk a mile before work. So far, so good. Just need to change my way of thinking from I don't want to - to - No excuses, you have to!

Went to my endocrinologist today. My levels are right where she wants them. But the nurse that took my weight, etc.... made my day! She asked for my last name to verify she had the right patient. She was amazed that I had lost 20 pounds since my last visit!!

Eating a leftover chicken tortilla soup for dinner tonight. Nothing fancy, but a frozen meal that needs to be eaten up.

Have a great night!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. The session went very well and I'll only go back to him if I need to. I've come a long way. I've got to give myself credit for how far I have come. Phyllis, you've been to my home. Had you seen it before I disposed of Vic's things you would be amazed. It looks like a new place...no piles, no electronics blocking all the windows, no collectibles on every flat surface, etc. I now love my surroundings and my home is a breeze to keep clean.

Having friend over for coffee tomorrow. It should be a nice visit.

Sending you all hugs,

Set my alarm last night so I can start my walking in the morning. I just don't have the ambition in the afternoon, and usually have chores to be done. I'm trying to find a balance, but run out of time for me since I go to bed at 7:30!

Made Wild Rice Chicken dinner tonight. It was good, especially if you like green beans, easy too and only 395 calories. Chicken, Wild Rice Mix, pimentos, water chestnuts, slivered almonds, cream of celery soup, mayonnaise, milk, onion and pepper. I used Mrs. Dash to season chicken while cooking.

Gail, good that you are seeing someone to do grief work. My observations and experience is that it takes a good ten years for a spouse or a child. Then you have your new "normal". But the process definitely takes longer than you think it "should" and is not nearly as permanent as you think it "should be". If that makes sense.

Proud of 1Crazydog for the beautician work! Your dinner out must have been rejuvenating. Mom's refurbished hearing aide got back from the factory yesterday so I took it out to her this morning so she can hear again.

My big sister is coming to town tonight and will take me to the casino tomorrow. I can't complain. I only go when she is in town but I think I am ahead $800 this year. Hope I didn't jinx myself for tomorrow.

Tuesday – well survived Monday! Bosnu points.

Shampooed, cut, dried and styled Mom’s hair. Sheesh. Didn’t know I had it I in me. Looks good!

Gorgeous day today – in the love 70’s and sunny. I’ll take it!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Gail: Hope you feel better soon! Grief work . . . takes a long time. For sure there’s no set “pattern” and “due date” to start and finish, although society seems to imply those expectations. Good luck!

Hugs, too.

I fell asleep about 6:15 last night and just got up at about 2:30am. I feel a cold coming on and am trying to stop it in its tracks. For me sleep is the best thing.

Going to the shrink today. It's been 3 years since my husband died but I feel I need grief therapy. Just never worked through some things. I'm confident I can work through this in a short time. The first year was the worst but I was so busy I just let it go. Ah, if we only knew in the past what we know now.

The allergies this year (and connected sinus infections) are horrid this year. OY

Meal planning is definitely my ace in the hole to keep me on track. If I know I have the meals planned, then mentally my brain doesn't get all up about "When are we going to eat next? What are we going to have? Do I have what I need to make it?"

Hope you are doing well.

Had some tortillas for dinner tonight, then planned my dinner tomorrow. Trying a new recipe - Wild Rice Chicken Dinner. It's under 500 calories, which is acceptable for dinner. Been feeling a bit better lately, and want to start doing my cooking/ prep for dinner much better. It keeps me on track, so I don't just eat a bowl of chips or something easy.

These cooler nights are getting to my sinuses, and they were bothering me a bit today. Hopefully, it doesn't turn into something worse. Took some OTC and a nap, and I feel better.

Monday – Nice day yesterday! The weather was perfect. Did yard work. Had indoor chores to do. DH and I decided to go out to dinner . . . and we did!

All in all, a good Sunday. Onward with today!

Phyllis: Same rules apply here. You bring the treats into the house, it is your responsibility to put them away where they won’t be a temptation to me. PERIOD DH is pretty compliant. DD . . . . well, not so much.

Congrats to your Mom for earning the resident of the month status. Awesome!

Gail: LOVE the Ole and Sven jokes. Heard a ton of ‘em when I lived in MN going to school.

Hugs ladies. Let’s make it a good Monday.

Crazy: Glad you had a good weekend and had a chance to rest and sleep in.

Phyllis: Didn't realize your husband had some mini strokes. Between caring for your mom and worrying about your husband you have a lot on your plate. Be gentle with yourself.

Here's another Ole joke:

Ole and Sven were taking a vacation in Sven's new camper. As usual, they'd become lost and were wandering around a strange town trying to find the highway. Sven was just starting down a grade to go under a bridge when he slams on the brakes.

Ole: Vat da heck you do dat for, Sven?

Sven: Dat sign dere says "Low Bridge. No Vehicles Over Twelve Feet High." Dis here camper is t'irteen feet!

Ole: Cripes almighty Sven, dere ain't no cops around. Yust hit da gas pedal and go for it!

mpotter, good start! Now you can solidify that loss and go on from there.

I talked to hubby about bringing "treats" home and giving them to me to put away. I reminded him that I had asked him to limit those purchases and whatever he brought he should hide from me. He felt appropriately chastised. Now we'll see if it sticks. He has had some mini strokes and other things that limited oxygen to his brain in the past, so he isn't as sharp as he once was. So far, my indulgences have not added weight. I have stopped losing, though.

Today I am going to the nursing home to help them do a write-up on Mom for their "resident of the month". So I am trying to remember some of her more interesting history for them.

Sunday – yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day after the storms finally ended. Sunny and wonderful temps.

Had a little chance to relax, and that felt good. Mom slept later than usual, so she was pretty well rested. Dad too.

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday!

Did well for three days last week, then caved and ate unhealthy the rest of the week. I still lost a pound, but need to try to do better this week. Going to plan some healthier dinner meals, and I am planning on making my grilled chicken taco salad for lunches at work this week. It is one of my favorites!! I also plan on adding my exercise back into my schedule this week to help me tone back up.

We spent the day in the Wisconsin Dells yesterday for their Wha-Zha-Wa festival. It is a yearly tradition for us. We usually get a room for the weekend, but we haven't been home much lately. I love walking through the craft fair!

Time to get to my grocery shopping. Have a great Sunday!

LEE: Thank you. Needed a slower paced day for sure! Music works for my Mom too, though she is heard-of-hearing. Still enjoys the rhythm of the music.

Glad Ladybug is more comfortable. Hurray!

1crazydog, so glad you get a day for yourself!! Also very glad you found coloring books make your mother happy. My mom has lost most of her vision, but the music works for her.

Yes, Gail, definitely brag worthy. If I had grandchildren you would here about them all the time.

I gave Ladybug pain medicine last night. It's already 1/4 pill but I think I should try to cut that in half. It worked for the pain but she looked a little confused so it may have made her feel "funny". She had a good night. I could see tremors in the morning, after it wore off, but she was fine for her walk this morning.

Congrats to your granddaughter. Bragging rights absolutely earned!

Yes, I am sure she is raking in the $$$ . . . . very popular for lots of things like dementia, anxiety. Very calming for Mom.

Good Morning;

Yesterday was a good day. I had a call from my middle granddaughter yesterday. She started at UNC this fall and called to give me her new address. We chatted for a while and during our conversation I learned that she started as a second semester sophomore. Am I ever impressed and very proud of her achievements. Forgive me for bragging. In the several years that I've been on Spark this was the second time I had done so.

Gail

Crazy: So glad your mom enjoys coloring. There was a feature on TV about a woman who published several coloring books for adults and it's taken off like wild fire. She's raking in the $$$ with both hands.

Saturday – storms overnight. Lots of rain to the south of us, but we got maybe 1.5 in. PHEW No rain now this morning.

Going to have a “laid back” Saturday. NO expectations, no obligations, just have some ME time. Wahoo!

Cooked yesterday in the crock pot, so dinner is just a heat up. Hurray!

Got Mom some coloring books. What a gold mine! She loves it.

Happy Saturday.

Gail: Lots of rain overnight here, too. But now the sun is out. Wahooo!

Melissa McCarthy is an entertainer I enjoy, too. Haven’t seen Spy yet, but on the list.

Have a great Saturday everyone!
