Going for a checkup today and will be at bridge tonight. Hoping you all have a bright, sunny day.

Monday – new week and hoping it’s lots less dramatic! Getting used to the time change again. It’ll happen!

Had laundry and ironing to do, planned meals for the week. PHEW glad those things are done.

Had to run to the store and stocked up for the week. PHEW on that one too.

So, off we go into this new week!

Boy, we really are all over the state! Wouldn't it be great if we could get together some time? The weather is turning very unpleasant now, but perhaps in 2016.

mpotter22, sorry to hear about your grandmother, you are in my prayers.

I live near Wauzeka, that is about 20 miles from Prairie du Chien or about 25 miles from the Iowa border.

We had no trick or treaters, as usual, we live in the country, so we don't usually get any. But I always have a bag around just in case.

Happy Halloween.
I think we found the right dog. Maltese/Poodle mix. But will wait a week to decide. I tend to act on impulse and occasionally have regrets. This is too important to rush into. Hubs is all excited, so that helps.

Heading down on Sunday for the services for Grandma. Been reminiscing about how much she meant to me and what an impact she had on me. I'll be out of town until Tuesday when I drive home. The services are in Burlington, so it is a 3 hour drive.

I did remember the song she sang! Whatever will be will be by Doris Day. They are actually singing that one at the service.

Tomorrow will be a day of errands and getting things ready for the week. Busy, busy, but it needs to be done before we head out of town.

M, so sorry for your loss. It is never a good time to lose a loved one.
Good luck at work. Can they put you on as machine operator?

The lawn crew was here today and I let them know they if they are the ones who do the fall cleanup to NOT cut down the raspberries like they did the past two years. It may be unusual to have raspberries in a flower bed, but the neighbor kids love them because they don't have much in the way of thorns.

Having an emotional week....

I said goodbye to a man I have worked alongside for the last 8 months. He retired yesterday. I am ever so happy that he has retired No one should have to work until they are 70 to retire. After seeing my Dad fight cancer, I wish he had been given the opportunity to retire and enjoy life. But, now I am a bit displaced at work. No one is running that machine, and I am not sure what will happen to me. Just feeling a bit lost.

My grandmother passed away this morning - just 8 days shy of her 102nd birthday. I will miss her singing and humming and how she would make me laugh. But, she had a long, full life.

BTW... I live in Nekoosa, and hubby works in Twin Lakes.

The guys from the glass company cancelled yesterday, somebody was sick or the weather wasn't right or something. So they came today. Supposed to come back and finish this afternoon... Meanwhile I got a call from the nursing home that Mom had some sore spots on her feet from her shoes so they wanted me to bring some thinner socks and buy some different slippers for her. So I went around looking for size 11 women's slippers. I took them out there, but they didn't fit because her feet are swollen. Thank goodness I brought a pair of my husband's along, just in case. Those worked. Now I have some nice new slippers that fit ME perfectly, and I got a real good deal on them. Talk about doing for others and having it come back to you! I can't wait to see what surprises fill my calendar tomorrow.

Phyllis: Luckily DH drives 1/2 hr. to a commuter parking lot and takes a shuttle van for the rest of the trip to Madison. So, he can snooze or work (I personally think he snoozes! LOL) It does mean early rising, though, because he's out the door by 5 am. So we're up @ 4 am.

1: Sorry your mom gave you so much worry yesterday. It's got to be very rough. I can't believe your DH works in Madison. That's quite a commute, about 1 1/2 hours each way, right? It's got to be tough.

Keeping you in my thoughts. Hope you have an easy day.

Pat: Well, sounds like you're back in the saddle at home. You are so organized and full of energy. What's the secret?

Phyllis: How are you doing today? Anything special planned? You had quite a week with the tradesmen. How did everything go?

Ali, MP and Rhonda: Hope your day goes well.

Thursday – well, at least Mom kept this hair appointment yesterday. The perm went well. BUT her blouse got a little wet. She was starting to STRIP to get the wet blouse off. OMG Tried to get her into a private room so she wasn’t “on display”. “NOOoooo!! Can’t you see it’s wet! I WANT my sweat on and this off.” Okee dokee then. There was NO getting her to a private area, so we covered her the best we could while she changed. Sheesh!

LONG day and today Dad goes to IL.

And we are supposed to have SNOW. SERIOUSLY! NONONONONONO

Ali, it's the pits when the ones around you just assume you will take care of things. Sometimes it's good because you know it will be done well, but it can be a real burden. Time to focus on what really matters and let some of the rest go. Maybe someone will pick up the slack. Stay strong.

I hope everyone is enjoying our experience with Hurricane Patricia. Hubs hung spooks on a tree out front and two of them ended up on the ground. Guess the hurricane was too much for them.

Today the glass in our kitchen windows is being replaced, a plumber is coming to fix a leak of the hot water intake to the wash machine, and I am going over to a friend's house to help her retrieve her big black chow dog from having had surgery. My calendar is clear for the rest of the week. Isn't that just how it goes?

Also, I, too, live in Madison

Wednesday – well, the day is young yet, and Mom has her hair cut appointment this afternoon. We’ll see how it goes. Last time she refused. HOPE she doesn’t do that again.

Got a walk in this morning, fortunately. That helps.

Hope it’s an awesome Hump Day for everyone.

Gail: Agree! Too much dependence. I am totally thankful that I live in a community where it is easy to walk. I just happened to be in a situation where I had to unfortunately use the van and there you have it. Lucky that it was a safe situation! That’s the most important.

Agree about computers, too. **SIGH** Less complicated in the days when we grew up!

Ali: Isn’t it discouraging sometimes when others don’t do what they indicate they will. **SIGH** I admire you for just doing what it takes to “get it done”. So many people in today’s world need to learn that lesson!

Glad you’re sneezing less today and feeling better.

M: Prayers are with you and your Grandmother. 101 is indeed a long life, but it’s always hard for those left behind to say goodbye. I feel like that’s what I’m doing with Mom little by little as Alzheimer’s takes her away from us.

HUGS and prayers.

1: hehehe I'm trying but it's so hard, way too much I need to do that others won't take the responsibility to do. But I am trying. *L* love it that your eyes are on me, too funny! Glad to hear your van isn't something major, thank goodness.

MPotter: Sorry about your grandmother, I hope and pray that when the time comes, it's easy for her. Wow, 101 right now, that is awesome, I'll bet there were a lot of things she could tell you about history. It's still hard, regardless, and you will all be in my prayers. *hugs*

Gail: I've sneezed a couple times today, but not near as much as yesterday; and that's usually a sign that I'm getting a cold. But so far I'm good. Hope you continue to feel better, too.

Phyllis: Thank you so much, I have been wishing for that for so long..and when I look at the calendar today...wow.. I hope your organization continues to go well, it makes you feel so good when it's done!

Feeling better today, but like I said, still sneezing once in a while. Least I go my pumpkin done. *L*

Tuesday – Well, Monday was “interesting”. Went to the bank. Van died in the freakin' parking lot. Figured it was the battery. Got a jump. Started. Got it into the service station. Battery check out fine. GRRrrrrr. BUT they cleaned the terminals and said bring it back if there are any more problems. Tested the electronics too, and no problem-o. So . . . . 3.5 hrs. later, back home. OY

Thank goodness Jason is working from home so if there’s a problem he’s here to help.

Otherwise, started out with a walk this morning. . . really needed that. Wanted to see the super moon, but it was cloudy and I needed sleep last night!

HUGS

My grandmother ( step mom's mom) has been in hospice since Friday. She was supposed to be transported home today, but her blood pressure has dropped quite a bit from yesterday. She is two weeks shy of turning 102, so she has lived a full life. Even so, I will miss her so....

1: So glad you and your Parents had such a great day, that's wonderful. And that walk, it's so important to get out there and do something for YOU. Have a wonderful rest of the week.Sorry about the "drama", I hope things get better in that regard.

MPotter: Congratulations on your anniversary, so glad you had such a wonderful surprise! Hey, lounging in pj's all day is a great way to celebrate your anniversary, wish I could have done that.

Phyllis: sounds like a great time at the game, glad you enjoyed it!

Gail: I haven't been to a farmer's market in years, my husband doesn't like to go, and besides, we raise enough of our own veggies to last a long time, so I guess it's not really necessary most of the time. mmmm Yummy, bean soup, I love homemade soup like that.

I have had another super busy week and weekend, preparing everything for our Daughter and Son-In-Law's Halloween party on Saturday. It went so wonderfully, but I don't think I've cooked that much in years..ok..since last years party.

I'm coming down with a cold, fun, and so glad the party's over. I cancelled the haunted houses trip because, well...just not feeling up to it, and I don't want to take out yet another day this week. Already going to be busy tomorrow, dr's appointment Wed, Festival Foods ceremony Thursday, groceries Friday, church Saturday, baptism/confirmation & party Sunday. ARRRGGGHHHH I want a solid week with nothing going on, I swear!!

Have a great day, everyone, and share a smile.

Monday – a little calmer day today, thank heavens. Bright and sunny but cool. Comfortable! So did an outdoor walk and that was so mind clearing.

Mom and Dad had a pretty good day so that was a bonus.

Ok, so have to make this a motivated Monday!

Let's make it a good Monday!

HUGS

Our anniversary was on Thursday night. He came home Thursday night and woke me up with beautiful flowers! With the rain on Saturday, we just couldn't decide what we wanted to do. I had hoped to walk the trails at a state park and enjoy the fall colors. The weather did not cooperate. Hubby and I lounged around all day with our pajamas on. I don't remember the last time we did that! We showered and dressed long enough to eat our anniversary dinner. Then, back to pajamas....Lol

Did my grocery shopping today. Came home and made Beef Tortellini Soup for my lunches this week. Much better than salami sandwiches!!! Then, mini pumpkin mousse tarts for dessert. Time to relax with a glass of wine before bed :)

Good Badger football game yesterday. Both sides gave their fans a good show.

Gail, thanks for the info on Metcalf's. I only went there once, looking for something in particular. It is quite the store. Hubs gets good deals at Woodman's. "Managers specials" on meats. So we always have a freezer full of options. He also likes to shop at GFS. He gets the frozen chicken breasts and then takes out only as much as he needs and leaves the rest in the freezer. (They are geared towards restaurants so much of their stuff is in bulk.)

When he stopped cooking for the crowd at work, I thought we would get rid of our basement freezer, but even for the two of us, he manages to make good use of it.

1: Sorry yesterday was so hard on you. Here's a joke to perk you up:

Canada had the most potential of any nation in history. They could have had the culture of the British, the cuisine of the French and the technology of the Americans.

Instead, they got the culture of the Americans, the cuisine of the British and the technology of the French.

Sunday – Yesterday was a mixed bag of a day. Dreary drizzly, rainy w/ a couple of storms. Then the sun came out briefly in the afternoon.

Mom and Dad wanted to go out to eat so we did. That was a nice break.

Lots of Clara drama yesterday, which I won’t get into, but I am emotionally tired. **SIGH**

Hugs

Glad you got to mall walk and go to the Farmers’ Market! Don’t you just love finding bargains! I sure do too.

Still awaiting sunrise here, but supposed to be a nice day.

Good Morning:

Well, I got to walk in the mall yesterday with my new walking buddy and also made it to the farmers' market. Got a beautiful sweet red pepper.

I had soaked some beans overnight with the thought of making bean and vegetable soup. I was wishing I had some beef or pork bones to throw into the pot and mentioned this to my friend. Long story short, she stopped at Metcalfe's on the way home. For those of you not in Madison, Metcalfe's is VERY expensive, about like Whole Foods. But when they have a sale their prices can be lower than Woodman's or Aldi's, the two lowest in town. Also, if you spend $10 at Metcalfe's they always have something free. Yesterday it was $5 worth of bratwurst or Italian sausage. I found 3 packs of beef bones with a good amount of meat for under $2 a pack. I also got some fresh lake white fish that had just come in and was on sale. I made out like a bandit and got 4 brats/sausages to boot. Will use them in soups too.

It's supposed to be sunny and cool here today. Will stay at home and enjoy two books I just started.

I am using my light box more again. Exerting myself gets me tired pretty soon, so I took a vitamin, too. Can't wait until the days get longer and brighter instead of short and dreary.

Got a call last night from the lady who drove us to the TimeBank party. We are going to walk at Westgate Mall and then might stop at the farmers' market at the DOT.

Saturday – started out to be a gray day yesterday, but no precip till the afternoon. Nothing severe, but lots of rain. And still drizzly this morning but got a morning walk in.

My prayers for all those affected by Hurricane Patricia. The strongest storm on the planet . . . category 5.

Have a few chores to do today that I won’t be able to get to next weekend as I have to go to IL for my annual endocrinology visit. Used to combine that with a visit to Mom and Dad. Now don’t have to do that anyhow.

So . . . off I go. Have a great weekend.

Well, Gail, sounds like life is good! Also, Crazydog, nice visit from helpful brother.

We woke up to the sound of lawn mowers and we were grateful that we could have that done. If I had realized how much backyard we would have to maintain, I might not have bought this house. But hubby loves his "estate" and it helps the local economy to hire it done. It would be good exercise but I'll take my treadmill, thank you.

Friday – well yesterday ended up being pretty busy. My brother came up unexpectedly for a short visit. He brought Dad his filing cabinet, which he really appreciated! That was nice. Had a nice visit.

Brought a smile to Dad’s face. THAT was priceless.

Gail: Glad you enjoy the TimeBank party. And netting a walking buddy to boot. AWESOME!

Glad the no additives thing works for you. AWESOME

And yes, stress definitely does affect the mind greatly!

HUGS and hope it's a good Friday for one and all.

Phyllis: When Vic was ill and my mind was on him and all I HAD to do, I often misplaced things, forgot what I was about to do, etc. Since he died that hasn't happened. It's the stress. I made a conscious effort to relax, listen to calming music, read, meditate, etc. and the problem was resolved. Not only that, but since this past January my BP was lower than it had been in years. The doc took me off one of my BP meds and we'll see how I'm doing in Nov.

I had a VERY good time at the TimeBank party last night. There is always good friendship, but the best part was the sing along at the end. There were some talented people there, especially one guy who did a Louis Armstrong imitation of the song IT'S A BEAUTIFUL WORLD. The lady who drove three of us to the party was very nice. The good news is she lives very close to me and asked if I'd like to be her walking partner. Sherry, it was like a gift from heaven. The walking group you introduced me to does a minimum of 3 miles. Wilma and I will be doing a 1 mile walk to start.

All week I've been heartburn free. Late last night, even though I had lots of spicy food like salsa and chili, I again had no heartburn. This "no additives" seems to be working for me.

M; so glad you are feeling better in time to enjoy walking in some of this nice weather.

1; I didn't know about the water thing and dementia. We used to have some sort of dry shampoo for when you didn't have time to wash your hair. Would that work for you? It must still be available somewhere.

Gail: enjoy your visitor! It will be nice for him to be somewhere without knife wielding fanatics. There are just too many crazies in the world.

My mind is definitely not what it was. I went to visit my mother today and cut some flowers from in front of the house to bring her. I got there and realized I didn't have my purse. When I got home, there it was next to the mums. Good thing I live in a safe neighborhood...

A friend from Israel is in town for a visit. It was so good to see him...such a nice man and an exceptional human being. I hope to,see him again before he leaves.

Tonnight I am going to the 10th birthday party of the Dane County TimeBank. They are having a cake walk so I baked a chocolate cake. It should be fun. I joined it some years ago but haven't been active for a few years. Now I'll be getting back into the swing of things.

It's a gorgeous day here in Madison and I'm glad I got out to see to a few errands.

Hope you all enjoy the day.

Thursday – A pretty quiet Wednesday, thankfully. Have laundry all caught up and getting a few meals put into the freezer. Such a lifesaver.

Sunny in the morning but then clouded up nicely. Oh well, at least it was very comfortable out.

Came home today starving, so I snacked. I always beat myself up for doing that. Tomorrow is a new day..

My energy level is returning. I've even been keeping up with my daily household chores in the evening. Going to try and start walking again next week. Until then (if the rain holds off), hubby and i will do some outdoor walking this weekend!

Oh lord, doing Mom's hair is a true project, because she's afraid of water. That happens with Alzheimer's patients and I hadn't known that. So, it's a slow process, but she always appreciates it when the wash, cut and curl are completed. Then **I** need to decompress. LOL

I absolutely love salmon, fortunately!

M; too bad you don't like salmon. It is so much healthier than salami.

!: It sounds like you have a good routine going. Next week I am coming over and you can do MY hair. It sounds delightful.

My sister was back in town and I gave much of last month's winnings back to the casino. That's why I generally stay away. But she likes it so it gives us a chance to bond.

I hope this joke doesn't offend anyone. Point of fact, the Canadian exchange rate is about the same as the USA. BTW, my dad was Canadian.
------------------

I't was announced today that Canada is preparing to increase it's commitment to assisting the United States in its war against terrorism.

They have promised to commit two of their largest battleships, 6,000 armed troops, and 60 fighter jets.

However, after the exchange rate is factored in, that comes down to a canoe, two Mounties and a flying squirrel.

Started tracking again today. You sure can tell I did my shopping when I wasn't feeling well or counting calories! I chose one of my favorite sandwiches for lunch this week. It came to 500 calories! Ouch!!!! I am going to have to reevaluate my salmon and cheddar on rye for the rest of the week.....

Tonight's dinner is a can of tomato rice soup. Going to make some homemade soup this weekend to freeze. Love homemade soups!!

Good to hear people are feeling better.
Really enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. I'll take it. Hard to think that a month from now it could be snowing...deer hunting. But I am ignoring that for now.

If the weather stays nice we may have more trick or treaters than I planned on. That makes it hard. You want to have enough treats for them without wrecking your own diet. I figure, anything left will have to go to the staff at the nursing home.

Beautiful fall day here too. Unfortunately I didn't sleep well at all last night. Had heartburn. Yuk! Had to take 3 Tums before I got some relief.

Going to do some laundry and then try to read.

Had some laundry to do, and had an easy supper. So, I was glad of that, too!

Cool and sunny . . . . typical Autumn. Sunny, so that’s perfect for my outdoor walk.

I started feeling better around 3 yesterday. Made a quick and easy ( not healthy ) dinner, and prepared things for the work week. Woke up this morning feeling so refreshed. It's amazing what sleeping for a day and a half will do! Needed a nap after work, then did some household chores that got neglected over the weekend. I'm not 100%, but pretty close. Headaches are not even half as bad and energy level is up. Just need to catch up on everything!

Hope to start tracking food again in the next couple of days. Been eating fruits and veggies and watching portions, so hopefully I'm doing ok.

Time for laughs:

Ole is so cheap that after his airplane landed safely, he grumbled: "Vell, dere gose five dollars down da drain for dat flight insurance!
----------------------------------------
----------

Ole wore both of his winter jackets when he painted his house last July. The directions on the can said "put on two coats".
-------------------------------------

Lars: "Ole, stant in front of my car and tell me if da turn signals are vorking". Ole: "Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes, No...."
--------------------------------------

And my favorite for today:

1: don't you hate the "wait and see" stage? Drives me insane. Sorry your Mom didn't have a good day last week, just be patient, and like you said, don't worry about it. You're all in my prayers. Glad your Mom calmed down enought to make it through Saturday. And yesterday sounds even better, that's great..yep, Friends will do, afterall hopefully your family are friends, also. :) *hugs*

Gail: YAY on the staining and wood treatment being done, I'll bet it's just like a new house and looks beautiful. That soup sounds delicious, yum! Love the Ole and Lena joke, hilarious. Wow great on the free veggies, yummy!

Phyllis: Yes, nice that your hubs made Tomato soup, I love tomato soup, especially home made, delicious! We've got tomatoes on the picnic table, but probably froze now, unless my Husband brought them into the garage. I hope you got your paperwork done! Ooohhh with grilled cheese, now I'm drooling! Sounds like you're doing great exercise-wise, that's wonderful! Don't you love it when it gets easier?

MPotter: Ooohhh hope you feel better soon, glad they gave you something for it. We've had the flu crud around here, My husband started with it, then me, then our son, and now everyone went through a second bout. Son is now sick in bed, hope he feels better soon, Hope you are, too.

Gail, I admire your energy and creativity in the kitchen. I seldom feel like cooking, so a full freezer is a great thing.

1, Sounds like a great family reunion. And you are right about your Mom. It doesn't matter who she thought they were as long as you had a good time. Soooo good for your Dad.

Monday – thoroughly pooped. But we had a wonderful time visiting w/my cousins. They are just too sweet. One made a huge Trifle for dessert. Mom absolutely loved it.

I think @ first she was overwhelmed because she really didn’t know who they were. But then she commented to me, “You have nice friends.” So we just left it @ that for sure.

Had good time and reminiscing. Dad needed the laughs for sure!

So, now the house is clean and can take it a little easier today. The main feature of the dinner was Dad’s Beef Soup. OMG. . . sooooooooooooo good. Made a huge spinach salad w/tomatoes, cukes, peppers and zucchini. It’s GONE! Surprised!

Anyhow, a good time was had. And Mom and Dad really appreciated it, so it was worth the price of admission!

Gail: Some days I really do want to just nuke something too. Just helps to have those ready-to-nuke meals in the freezer for busy times.

Had the chard and some applesauce yesterday and was loving it. Today I'll make meat balls and freeze them in small serving sizes. Sometimes I hate to cook and it's so convenient to just nuke something from the freezer.

Not much on the docket for today. I'll start a new book and relax. Tomorrow is yoga.

Oh, man! I just got out of the kitchen. I cooked up the Swiss chard, made home made salsa, apple sauce, 1 jar of pickled green tomatoes, creme fraiche and finished making the mushroom pate I started yesterday.

Now I'm going to rest. Think I'll read or catch up on the TV shows I recorded. You know, I'm beat.

G.

M: Hope you're all better now.

Phyllis: Great job on the jumping jacks!
