I have absolutely no doubt my cat loves both me and my hubby. Maybe only hubby for food, though emoticon

I mean she follows me around. Watches TV with me. The second I get home from work she is right there at the door to greet me (unless she is completely zonked out). I tell her it's time for bed and she rushes into the bedroom to sleep on the pillow with me and she even leaves me nearly 1/4 of the pillow! That's love LOL. Whenever she doesn't want to sleep on the pillow she sleeps with her head in my hand that's stretched out. Hubby says she meows for a couple hours whenever I leave. She also has to go to the bathroom whenever I do. Doesn't matter if she just went 2 minutes before. She has to go.

How is that not love? They are just more mature and sophisticated about it emoticon than the big old pooches.

Regardless of test results, I think our animals know how they feel about us. As said before, my cats always meet me at the door. Jumping on the side table by the door so they can get the first pat. My 6 year old cat, Kahsey, actually calls me. Not a merow, morrrow, or any combination of m's, r's and w's. Kahsey actually calls me to the bedroom to crawl in bed with him. I have lots of believers, because they've heard him.
He says Ma-Maaa. . I go to the bedroom, and he's at my pillow waiting for me. If he gets hurt (catfight) or scared he calls his Ma-Maaa! And of course I answer his little calls quickly to let him know I am there with him, and everything is gonna be OK.
Jaime, my 2 year old, has the strongest, and loudest purr of any cat I've ever heard. He uses that purr, for 2 things, Crawling on Dad's lap, and kneading away, with a cat smile on his face, and when he dives into his food, he does the same thing, purring as he eats. And sometimes if Dad's asleep already, Jamie comes over to my side to knead and purr. (Some people call the kneading motions-making muffins ) I have no doubt, or even consideration of a doubt that our cats love us. Maybe some cats dislike their people, but I know for sure our cats love us!

Hasn't this person who told you the research is right ever heard of a flawed study, or worse, one where the data has been falsified? What a closed minded person, have they ever had a cat or do THEY hate cats?

Research or no research, I don't need anyone to research anything for me to know that my cats love me, and I love them. Whoever tries to convince me otherwise, well...they are full of bologna. emoticon

Oh, my gosh. As long ago as this thing was, tonight I got attacked about it and told that I don't know anything because this guy had done actual research and so what he said goes (that the cats hate their owners). I was told I had better learn to pay attention to research instead of my own observations because whatever I observe is wrong.

It does sound a bit like he had decided what the outcome would be beforehand, doesn't it. I think there is a lot of research like that, whether it be animals or other things like if anything natural will help with disease. If someone wants a certain result, that is what they will decide the result is.

Dogs and cats are so different. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and my dogs are much more dependent on me. It goes beyond attention with dogs. They want to be in the same room with me regardless of weather they're getting attention or not. They get a little crazy if no one is home with them. My cats love me and want my attention but they could care less when I leave the room or the house because they know I will be back and when they want attention they will come and ask for it. It is also true that they mark their humans so they know I belong to them. It just seems like a stupid conclusion to the experiment. Like the professor didn't really put any effort into the data collected and didn't bother to vary the tests in any way. It appears to be one of those experiments where they have already decided what the outcome is going to be therefore the test follows with their outcome.

I agree some researchers have way too much time and money to do silly nonsense instead of solving environmental and cost efficient ways to improve our daily lives.

My Shadow used to follow me everywhere and always wanted my lap or a snuggle. She is an old lady now. When I get home, she sits up in bed to yell at me. "I want your attention".
She still wants my lap, but has to fight her brother for the right. She refuses to cuddle with the puppy.

Stupid researcher. I saw an experiment with dogs and various primates. The dogs looked to humans for clues as to where a treat was hidden - the primates evolved as non-dependent on humans, and ignored the clues (eyes looking towards the cup, hands pointing, etc). Does this mean primates (chimps, bononos, gorillas, monkeys) hate us?

I didn't see anything but the report on what he said and many people's comments. But Orzo will meet me at the door if I don't get into the house soon enough. I just got home a little while ago and he has been following me all over the place and is currently in my lap. I don't think that anyone could say he hated me if he was in a room and I left and he paid attention to the other person who stayed in the room. He just loves to get people's attention.

I am not liking google mail for getting Spark notices too well. They have started blocking the notices. I had no idea anyone had replied to this until just a couple minutes ago when I opened it up. It doesn't go into the spam folder or a junk folder, just never shows up just like Century Link blocks things.

My cats are like Pam's kitties emoticon no matter where they are when I come home, they run to the door to greet me. They follow me around the house, into the bathroom and sleep with me. I may be their staff; but I know they LOVE me. As I write this, Dakota is sleeping on my lap. emoticon

Cats and dogs have evolved differently and you can't compare them. Plus it is still a question as to whether animals even HAVE emotions.

I think my cats see me as a giant walking bag of Friskies, lol. If they are acting loving, I remember that their species is nurtured by mother cats who groom them incessantly. So my cats think I am their mom when I pet and brush them. Then when I feed them, well, with the food and the grooming - it's a mother and child thing.

Dogs? I think dogs are crazy puppies all their sweet lives and I have no idea what is in their fuzzy, funny heads. But you gotta love 'em as much as cats.

I am pretty sure that my cats LOVE me. emoticon They do not wag their tails and jump on me when I enter the room, but they do come to greet me when I get home each day. I can tell from the lazy look in their eyes that they've been sleeping, but when I open the door, there they are, waiting to greet me.

Some researchers have too much time on their hands! It's like comparing apples to oranges, although both are fruit, that's all they have in common.
Two of my cats are quite independent but they do seem to notice when I come home. My little one, Atticus, is as bad as the dog for following me around from room to room. Sometimes I think he is trying to kill me when he hides on the stairs in the dark, but I'm sure I'm mistaken.

I watched the experiment. It showed a dog looking for his owner after he realized the owner was';t in the room and it showed the dog being excited when the owner came back and was jumping up and happy to be re-united.

When the same thing happened with a cat, He didn't look for her. He paid attention to the person who was playing and petting him. I only proved that the cat is less dependent on his owner than a dog.The cat didn't display emotion one way or the other. That is just some cats nature. They are more prone to rubbing against us to mark us as their own property. No where did I see that cats hate us. They are just different emotionally than dogs, just like people are different.

The other day they had something on the news about a professor in the UK who says that cats hate their owners. I guess he determined that when having cats in some strange room and found that the cats could care less if their owners left the room. Just wondered what you guys thought of that. I know that Orzo is always sleeping on my lap, follows me into the bathroom just like dogs do, will stay in the bathroom while I am taking a bath and sleeps with me on the bed. He also is constantly rubbing on my face and licking my chin. I don't see how he could possibly hate me.
