I don't think I could ever carry my hand gun with me on a run. That seems excessive! I do have police grade pepper spray that I will carry when it is dark outside. I just hate carrying more than I think I may need.

Great question and great replies! Something for me to consider as I spend more time outdoors and out of the gym working out! Will definitely be considering! Thanks!

Nothing, at the moment. I've been told I need to carry a gun. That is ridiculous. I have never fired anything other than a .22 rifle, and I would NOT feel comfortable RUNNING and carrying a loaded gun. Not to mention, where would I put it?? It's bad enough I have to carry around water... My cousin suggested a kubaton, which would be easy to carry, but I haven't been able to find a store here that carries them. Would have to order online.

I carry my phone and a keen sense of awareness of my surroundings. A greater danger to me is tripping and falling over objects in my path because I spend more time looking around at the trees and bushes, keeping an eye out for an attack. I've got a sharp elbow, a loud scream, and considerable extra weight behind me. I would not go down without a fight. lol

All of my workouts are inside a gym, however, I DO teach kickboxing! LOL One never knows when it might come in handy.

Protection. How do you keep yourself safe while out on a workout? Do you have any special training?

Me and and two of my girlfriends are walking by the river early in the mornings. We just started and safety from all our guys/friends was a big concern. I normally carry a blade on me because I like to go off trail and off on my own. It can be a good tool as well as protection. I will also carry a short hard wood stick. My years of sword fighting makes a club very comfortable for me. My husband would have me carry my pistol but I'm not comfortable with that idea yet.

One of my friends carries mace, and all of us carry our phones.
