I'm feeling really vulnerable today. My challenge tonight is to eat fish tacos at the restaurant, avoid food off other plates, and possibly a half a serving of tortilla chips with my dinner. I might have a sip of my husband's margarita but I will drink water with lemon.

Just popping in to say I used a lot of fresh pumpkin in a crustless, sugarfree pie and I'm actually considering it as a sort of soufflé instead of a dessert. I see no problem with having some at one of my meals on NoS. But just want to state that. After talking with my nutritionist, I do consider sugarfree desserts in general as desserts for the WE.

This is an excellent idea, it breaks a behavior pattern that the brain has put on autopilot. It will be very hard to do the first time, a little easier the next, and then it gets progressively easier. Even if the first posts does not eliminate or even shorten the binge, it will still help. Focusing on something (other than binging) that involves some focus and is pleasant is a great strategy overall. emoticon

Yasmina, I have exactly the same problem... that's why I'm committing to write here before anything goes in my mouth...through the end of the year... After that, we'll see. I'm hoping by analyzing before "anything" goes in, I will stop a binge. If you are away from a computer, then just do your best attempt. I'll probably email it or text it to myself, or tell my husband, or something, just to keep the notion of thinking before I eat and then post it here when I can - could also take a photo of what I'm going to eat.

Thank you - I'll give this a try! I always tell myself I'll write in a journal or post online to avert a binge but I rarely actually do it, despite my good intentions. So this coud be just the nudge I need!
My problem is that I don't yet have a battle of resisting cravings before ultimately surrendering to them; usually I'm not even aware of eating until I'm mid-binge. It's as if I'm in a trance, then suddenly I 'come to' - I 'awaken' from the daze and I'm shocked by the empty food wrappers filling the dustbin. What I want to do is create some space, and slow down time, so I have a chance to resist before I go into a robotic eating mode.

I always say I'll do stuff like this but when the moment hits me I start internalizing everything and posting is typically the last thing I'm able to do. I found this thread useful to make commitments to not eat for several hours at a time. I created it last year as a public way to make this commitment. My goal has been to learn to eat 3 times a day and "live" in between. These commitments help with that habit. I follow NoS, so Saturdays and Sundays and special days have more flexibility.

I seem to be the only one who used this thread last year, but feel free to jump in if a public commitment helps you. I find I keep commitments that are public more often than ones just to myself.

I recently had a binge, and as always, it's a split second decision and whoosh, I'm off. I've gotten good at keeping them to just 1/2 hour or and hour at the most because I post right away mid binge to stop it.

Now, I'd like to stop it before. My plan is to post here one sentence or so of why I want to eat before I eat anything. Of course, the problem is that I don't binge all that often anymore, so a lot of posts will be normal, but I'm hoping to catch the next weak time before it happens.

I don't want this to be a big time consuming post, just short ones.

This is an experiment, and I plan to do it until the end of the year. Not sure what I'll do when I'm on vacation, but will worry about that when it happens...

Anyone who wants to join -- please do!!!!
