Yes I do take hawthorn as well !!!! I too have had two kidney stones but that is what brought me to the ubinquinol form of CoQ10. Let's just say that I fully dove into be the healthiest ever, after getting kidney stones. It brought me to herbals all the way. Blood work doesn't lie!!!! CoQ10 also has had a side benefit for my migraines so I have no complaints thus far!

Be careful with potassium if you are taking lisinopril. Lisinopril causes the kidneys to store potassium, which means your levels of potassium will go up while on this medication. If you eat a lot of extra potassium or supplements, you could be doing more harm than good. Too much extra potassium can be dangerous. You should ask your doctor about it if you're taking lisinopril.

I take hawthorn extract every day. I am not sure if it is working yet, as I have not been taking it long enough, but I have read that it is an excellent herb for the heart and blood pressure. If you buy it, try to buy a brand that says "1.8% vitexin-2'-rhamnoside" on the label as this is what gives hawthorn its potency. Some brands are much less potent than others.

Ok I trust that it is ubiquinol form and not ubiquinone form! That is the only way it gets absorbed fully to the health of each cell. I get half off at.....

Ubiquinol form only and it's the only in the PDR

I get the CoQ10 at Walmart. They seem to be the cheapest.

My remedy for High BP is find an exercise that you enjoy and do it consistently. I also blend a smoothie with berries, celery, and at least two cloves of garlic, with juice each morning. I found that garlic is good for lowering High BP. Since I have been blending each morning my pressure has dropped considerably. It could be the combination of exercise, but I do find the smoothie to be a factor. emoticon

CoQ-10. No other side effects. From what I have read the side effect profile is very good.

Completely agree. I have tried lots of supplements and other stuff with no results. Exercise, it's important to do it daily , the positive effect seems to be additive for the first 3 or 4 days. And, yes weight loss - even 20 pounds can make a big difference.

Thanks for the info. I think I will up mine to 200mg. Did you have any side effects other than your kidney stone? Have you heard of any problems with taking large amounts of CoQ-10. It is expensive but if there is a drop of 10 points, it may be worth it. Thanks......... hiker01

I have used 200 to 300 mg per day. It took two to three weeks to get results, seemed to take about 10 points off top number. I have stopped taking CoQ-10 because I believe it greatly aggravates my kidney stone condition.

I am myself a BP patient. MY BP is under control. Breathing exercise helps me a lot. Early in the morning, do breathing exercise (pranayam) for 15 minutes without any break. don't take salty items (take minimum oil free/salt free) items. plus regular walking and control in weight helps a lot in maintaining BP.

Saw what you wrote. No wonder my alloted amount for my potassium is soooo high. How can anyone get in that much potassium, besides taking a supplement, which I do?

instead of garlic tea i make yummy garlic soup, which you can add potatoes too which is more potassium in the diet. i just joined sparkpeople, so i have not posted the recipe but i will be. you can choose not to use the chicken broth if your worried about the sodium.

i also take tincture of passionflower which is a heart tonic and has the added benefit of maintaining a level of calmness that i have not experienced before. (at least not with an herb that does not also make you sleepy).
Because i am an aromatherapist i also utlize essential oils through massage application, baths and diffusing in the air.
Good ones for bp ylang ylang oil, german chamomile and lavender. my absolute favorite from a heart and mental standpoint is violet leaf but it can be difficult to find.

I have to agree with most below! CoQ10 has helped emesly and it's gained popularity in the media which is confirming and somewhat promising!Potassium YES.....exercise of course .....weight loss with herbs has helped me...just a natural appetite suppressant..I snack sometimes! Please make sure if your on statin take CoQ10 absolutely because BP meds deplete healthy cells and this replenishes them . I get natural remedies from :

The weirdest thing I have noticed is a lower blood pressure when taking Acai (not the kind marketed for weight loss, but the actual antioxidant capsules...if there is a difference). I notice when I don't take it for a couple days, my blood pressure spikes.

Potassium helps. Everyone with HBP is supposed to have 5x the amount of potassium versus sodium. I notice when I up my potassium my BP goes down.

I've also ordered the resperate machine which does seem to bring my breathing down, but I haven't been consistent enough with it to be sure.

Regular exercise and of course staying away from sodium which is most processed foods

these two have worked for me but albeit its a short term solution.
Like if your Bp spikes too high..these are an option.
However i totally agree with SunnyArizona...and thats why im committed to losing weight in order to lower my bp.

I have used MANY a "home remedy" for my blood pressure, Not a one really ever helped, and that includes alot of the ones already listed.

BUT, 2 things I DID find that helped, and that was to LOSE weight, AND to get in my 60 minutes or more of exercise a day.

ewww, garlic tea! lol
Parsley is a diuretic, I just learned that lately.
There are so many things that have been shown to help some, but not necessarily everyone:
Hibiscus
L-arginine
flaxseed
celery
meditation
dark chocolate
baby aspirin taken at night

´┐Żonya
