Good job! Planks are not my favorite because they hurt my lower back. I am doing them in moderation to try to strengthen my core, followed by stretches to lessen the pain.

Speaking of phone apps... I would like to try to connect with riding friends using the Equilab app. It tracks many things during your rides: GPS, Distance, Speed, Walk, Trot, Canter, Horse energy, and even YOUR ENERGY (calories burned)! It allows you to add pictures and notes to each ride as well. Anyone interested can find out more here:
equilab.horse/

And if you like the app, feel free to add me as a friend! I believe you search for friends just by first and last name. I think it would be really neat and inspiring to see other riders' successes and fun times. So far, my only riding friends to follow are my daughter & daughter in law. Both don't bother using the app much. Hope to connect with a few of my Sparkfriends!

Trying out a new app on my phone: Plank Workout. 5 minutes of plank variations from beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I'm definitely in the beginner category, and boy did that 5 minutes work out a variety of muscles!

Great idea, along with stretching the calves.

I ordered some new bands to work with at home. I am going to incorporate them in my daily routine. I have some back in Michigan and they did come in handy in helping with my stretching. I am still not exactly ready to set up a schedule to get into shape. I keep saying I will and I put it off. I just seem to be doing so much running around trying to tie up the finishing touches on the guest house that I just had remodeled. Now I am trying to get it decorated. I know it's in Vegas but I am doing it a Western Theme to remind me of my horses back in Michigan.

Being down with the back pain this past two weeks set me back a lot. I am feeling better and still not up to par. I have to take it slow or that muscle goes wacky on me. Feels like it will shoot out stabs into my back and chest. I am out of relaxers, out of pain med, and my insurance will not be accepted here to see a regular doctor. Blue Cross of Michigan stays in Michigan I guess, at least that is what Nevada says. I might try a trip back to the Urgent Care they accepted at least my Medicare. Unfortunately the doctors here are talking Medicare Plus for Nevada also. Geeze what a nightmare.

I did manage to pay off my car here in Vegas two years early so I could get a title. Now I am taking that title to Michigan to plate and insure the car. It is just to costly here in Nevada to plate that vehicle each year. Not to mention that emissions text, not so costly but annoying.

Ok, I am off for the day lots of shopping to do for the guest house.

Hugs
Joanna

Mounting blocks and steps- not just for getting on those ponies! How about 5 minutes of stepping up and down, alternating sides, before tacking up?

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that I have finished Day 4, but I have decided to keep my progress and updates in the "Challenges & Goals" forums since this was an Equestrian Fitness Challenge. This will also keep me from cluttering up this topic emoticon

If you would like to follow or join in, I have posted in the "30 Day Rider Fitness Challenge" thread (find it near the bottom of the Team's Main Page).

Today was tough! My legs really hurt from doing the squats. I powered through, but I hope my legs start healing soon.

Planks are the way to go, girls! FYI... to modify lunges and squats, place a chair in front of you to help with balance until you are stronger!

Oh wow, we have a coach -- how cool is that. For those of us that can do the training I say we use this advantage and treat it as a private trainer. Or encouragement, a little push what ever you want to call it but lets take advantage of the effort PETIESGIRL is putting in here.

I do have to modify most of what ever you put in but I can do something along the lines and jump in. Lets get moving.

Good Luck All

We need a strong core for our horses so we don't bounce around on their backs like a backpack on a running child! So for this week, how about adding a few minutes of plank each day? They can be easily modified by using elbows, knees, or both. They can be made more challenging by starting with a regular plank and touching knees to floor and raising to plank again. Side planks are good strengtheners too. Just remember to keep that tummy in and back straight!

So, I reckon my sharing link worked - great! You are very welcome, RAKASHA.

I will be adding this year's challenge as soon as I have everything downloaded and saved. The 2020 challenge is designed so that once you sign up, you only have access 1 day at a time. Last years challenge was only supposed to be 14 days, but went for 21 days (a kind of bonus, if I remember correctly).

Since the 2020 challenge is only for 10 days - I've decided to start it this coming Monday, 01/20/2020 and should be completed by the end of the month. If successful, I will try last year's challenge again in February, and maybe the 2016 challenge again in March.

I'll post my progress periodically emoticon

All right, Y'all- looking for a longer leg while riding? Try a little Downward Dog! My favorite free website for Yoga is Spotebi.com. Yoga is under lifestyles. Don't sign up and pay! You can access the yoga poses and the flows for free.

Misty

I took a look it gives you a pretty good layout of a nice work out to build up your strength. Unfortunately I am not able to get down on the floor and up easily since my accident, however I can modify this slightly and on the riding days just take those days as rest days also. At 79 I need more rest than workouts, but I do need something to follow because of my motivation skill will not stay on track without it.

I also like the idea that you can print this out and keep it as a tracking record.

Thanks so much. Will let you know how I modify it and how it works for me. As I said before I have not been in the saddle for at least 5 years and it's so time I get my butt back in there.

Anyone with the link should be able to view the PDF files - please let me know if you cannot.

I didn't keep all of the 2017 & 2018 challenge materials because they included exercises with a stability ball and I didn't have one. I deleted the PDF files and just repeated the 2016 challenge for those years. 2019 also includes exercises with a stability ball, but I was able to substitute a chair and still complete the challenge.

I will add a 2020 folder with this year's downloadable files once they are all available.
ENJOY!

Just FYI, You do not have to wait until you are with your horses - this program is basic HOME exercises that focus on the muscles & balance you use when riding, but does NOT require a horse! If you have horses, there is also exercises for while your are riding, but the WELCOME recording says that you can do walking exercises instead when/if you cannot ride a horse. Also, I just learned that this challenge is ONLY 10 DAYS - not 30 days like it was in years past.

I still have the past challenges saved to my computer. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can save them to GOOGLE somewhere and share the links to them here. I am not sure if this is even possible yet, but if it is, I want to share!

Thanks for posting this. I also signed up, but will probably also wait, until daylight savings time rolls around. I'm also trying to become consistent with what is already on my plate so to speak.

How clever is that an actual fitness for equestrians. I am loving it but will have to wait for that when I can get back into the saddle or at least to my horses in the spring.

Let me know what the challenges are when you get started in them, either one of you. And good luck.

I am signed up! Looks like a different format than in years past (I've been doing this since 2016). My confirmation message says the full challenge is ready and waiting. That is as far as I have gotten.

I don't intend to actually start until I have a few weeks of consistency on here fulfilling my spark goals (tracking water intake, sleep, food & exercise). I'd like to start the first Monday in February.

Here is the link to get started...
