The more I see the 100# the more I get it just where I am and how much I need to lose.

The awning is done. It extends over my patio doors which leads to the kitchen. Now my usually super bright kitchen looks kind of dull.

Back in our camping days, we took a six week vacation and after two weeks that laid back feeling really clicked in.

I often wonder why people go to Hawaii at all if they can't enjoy the laidback lifestyle. I think it takes a couple of days sometimes to get the rhythm, slow down, and really enjoy it.

Anything you were planning to get done in July? Today's the day! emoticon Time does fly!

It would be fun to meet you when you do get back over here.

Right now is height of summer tourism and the island is jam packed, though it's not a complaint. No tourists = no business. Seems like we are more filled with pushy or impatient people. LOL, relaaaax! You are on vacation!

Headed up to P'ville tomorrow afternoon. Have to get 2 east side condos ready first then am going to spend the night in one of the north shore places. Perk. A more relaxed schedule this weekend is very welcome after the last 4 weeks.

Kick your shoes off, put an umbrella in a cold glass of water and relax!

I think they really got into the spirit of it. Everyone wore "island attire" and of course, we greeted them in the traditional manner -- leis and all. We had Iz, Keali'i Reichel, and John Keawe on the shuffle in the background, and everyone loved the food. (what's not to love?) Of course, the mai tais helped loosen everyone up. emoticon

*sigh*

Now I want to jump on a plane and visit again! emoticon

Send some of that rain over here, please! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Carol may be the one who lives in Hawaii, but I'm the one who hosted a luau tonight. It went well, and I largely behaved myself. No mai tais, no Hawaiian bread, and no bananas foster! The pork was yummy, and the mahi mahi turned out well. Despite my best efforts, I did go over a little on calories, so I'll have to see if that undoes me in this week's weigh in. I'd nibble my fingernails in worry, but I don't need any more calories today! emoticon

Sounds like a great weekend! Getting an awning sounds like a great addition to the patio.

I work in the tourism industry and since people do not vacation Monday-Friday, 8-5... weekends don't mean much either. I grab a day off when I can! This one is not much different. Light work Saturday, Sunday, Monday then slow next week & time for R&R.
I have to let go (ok, fire) a helper. I like him, he's funny - but I don't trust him. There's more involved, but no need to get into it here. Gah! I hate this part!

Would like to fire up the grill myself tonight, but it's dumping rain...keeps Kauai green.

We are also having a weekend challenge over in the NEWYOU thread. Everyone, stop by and join in! I'll have another for next week. If anyone has a mini-throw down challenge idea, let me know!!

Re; TGIF since we are retired our life does not revolve around the week-end. We will hang out in our garden, bbq and oh I am pretty excited about getting an awning put up over the patio.

I used to feel that way. Now, I have come to a place in my weight loss journey where I need to be open about how much I weigh. It's not like people can't see I'm fat. emoticon It's a personal decision, tho and you only need to share what you are comfortable w/. emoticon

I had a hard time with it as well, so I completely understand. There were a lot of things that became more comfortable with time, so do what you feel comfortable with now. Reassess and adjust later if necessary.

Suggestion? Break your weight down into smaller goals - 10 lb. increments or 10% increments - and set your ticker for pounds til goal.

I wanted to let everyone know I am away from home for a couple more days. I am at a training in Helena and then I will be going back to Bozeman tonight. Then I will head back to Billings Monday or Tuesday. Keep me updated on how July is going for you!! I didn't bring my scale, but the clothes fit the same, so hoping I haven't added back weight. I won't be weighing in Monday morning as I won't be home. Maybe I will do it Wednesday. Have a nice day!! Angie

Leave the batteries close by (so the scale can see them) and just leave them there to taunt the daylights out of the scale.

Don't be grrrr! Be purrrrr!

LOL, OMyGeee I have no idea where that came from and should probably delete it!

I've been really good as well and have seen no appreciation or love from the scale either, so you got my understanding. Maybe it's so confused by the wonderful way we are eating and treating our bodies that it's scared!

Do not dispare! You are stronger and smarter than that darn scale. We will prevail! (or at least we can remove the batteries from the darn thing and put it to sleep for a while).

@Grace - That's great that you keep it under control! I rarely eat out, and I think that's part of the problem. It's a special occasion, and part of me rebels at having to eat the same thing as always.

For people who have lost a significant amount of weight, did you ever feel overwhelmed or daunted? How did you approach the challenge? I'm breaking it down into 10% increments so it doesn't seem like such a monumental challenge.

sodium, especially in restraunt & fast food can add water weight and the other junk adds weight too. I am so glad you knocked off the splurging, it can discourage so many into quitting the next day when they weigh in.

Keep up the excellent Progress!!

at CATIATM: YES! I experience this as well... in fact, when I first started this journey I was so happy with ten pounds lost (this was before I was tracking everything I ate) It was my sons bday and we were out shopping and starving. My husband wanted to take me out because we never get to do that so we just stopped at ihop (I know, romantic, right?) and because we were starving, boy we ate. (cinnaswirl pancakes -a-maz-ing) then, birthday party later that night, Pizza! I really didn't feel guilty at all. I had been doing so well and knew I wasn't going to give up or get discouraged even if I ended up a pound or two heavier the next day. BUT NINE POUNDS???? It took me a week and a half of hard work to lose it all again! that was the last time I splurged. quite frankly, I'm terrified to. The math does not make sense at all, but there it is, all the same. This is the only way I have ever been able to continuously lose and stay focused. I track every calorie. I don't bother tracking veggies, but every other thing that goes in my mouth I count. Now I am exercising as well and it seems to keep coming off. If and when we go out to eat again I am taking my calorie king!

My friend lives in Honolulu. So that is probably the only island I will make it to...at least this time!! I am going with a friend and we are staying with a friend. Her husband is in the Air Force. He is a career man in the Air Force. They lived in England and I wanted to go. I never made it. I am going to get to Hawaii to meet her children before they are teen agers!! Nice visiting with you!!

Hi Angie!
Glad you are finding your way through the co-lead thing! I have been a leader of several small teams as well as one of those ginormous 21,000 member SP Week of... teams. Now that was an experience.
Let me know if I can be of any help!

Hi everyone! I am one of your new co-leaders. I am working on getting to know the in's and out's of Spark People leadership. I am also looking for ideas for new challenges. I am working on that myself as a goal. Something that will really challenge me to get motivated...I just joined as co-leader this week, so be patient. I have more time than Renee and Debbie and hope that will help the team. Keep up the good work and I will continue to learn as fast as I can!! Thanks!! Angie

Lori, thanks for that reminder!
I had a really hard week with work, overindulged by way of stress eating a couple evenings and wound up having a minor melt down late yesterday afternoon....all sorts of negative self talk and such things the last few days.
I could have continued the unhealthy slide today but decided not to take out work frustrations on my body....and to track, track, track (after sleeping late for a change).
We can all do this, it just takes a lot of time and patience with ourselves.

For me, one meal of indulgence often puts on 2-4 pounds. I figured out the sodium is what kills me. I end up retaining water for days. I was at 273 pounds on Friday. I had a French Dip Friday night. I was 275 this morning. Today, I ate under my required calories because I just didn't have much of an apetite with the heat and humidity. Even with that, I will probably be at 274 or more tomorrow morning.

No matter what the scale says tomorrow, on my official weigh-in day, I have told myself that it will not be an excuse to give up or eat a bunch of garbage because I'm angry.

The scale is a guide. If you are doing the work, it will eventually comply and show you the weight loss. Don't be discouraged. While the scale plays catch-up, think of all the ways you are making yourself healthy that have nothing to do with the scale.

I'm editing this to say that my own goal is to track my calories especially when I indulge. One indulgence for me can be a huge problem is that indulgence puts me over my daily calories by 2000 or so calories. That's easy to do at a restaurant.

I'm a little disappointed today. I created deficits all week, but then went out yesterday. I made good choices but went over on calories. Today? Up THREE pounds. Still, the long-term trend is a positive one, so I'm going to really watch it today and see if I can get rid of those extra pounds.

I wish I understood why days of 100% compliance results in small loses, but one meal of indulgence can earn me multiple extra pounds. I want to say they're just water, but it can take days to a week to lose them again. Does anyone else deal with this? Any ideas?

Thanks for the encouragement SWEET, and congrats on reaching your halfway point! emoticon

I am steadily losing weight, although I think it's muscle. I am still rehabbing the knee religiously and now that I can finally get aorund without crutches, I am going to try some very light resistance work until I can walk again.

I had cut out all caffeine, sugar, wheat, and "white" foods, but I got lazy and self-pitying and started eating my favourite comfort foods again. Now I'm going cold turkey, and it really is a withdrawal process I feel like I have the flu! I feel shaky and unfocused, but I know it will get better if I continue to resist. emoticon

I am so happy to be a part of this team. I am very thankful for what Renee and Debbie have put together at this point. Maybe we can toss around some ideas for challenges. Where are people struggling the most? Exercise? Nutrition? Motivation? Planning? If several of us are really struggling in one area, that might be a good place for us to start.

Hi everyone! just wanted to check in! there are a lot of activities and teams on Sparkpeople right now! wanting to be better for bikini season i guess :)

I started my journey on February 16th, 2011- today I reached the halfway point. I have until February 16th, 2012 for 100 pounds to be gone! So that means I lost the first half in 5 months. I still have a lot of work to do, and I know the next 50 will probably be harder. I have been off track for the last month or so and cannot afford another detour.

Thanks for the support!

@CatiaTm - welcome. I am sorry to hear that you have so much recovery in front of you, just keep watching what you eat! I hurt my knee and wasn't even able to walk for about three weeks and managed to lose weight by watching my diet and doing a few positions while sitting.

Hi, everyone! I just joined the team and am wandering round, getting acquainted. Congrats on getting serious, MISAHMOMMY. I love zumba, but unfortunately, it's how I tore my ACL in February. I just had surgery on it and have several months of recovery ahead - so have fun - but be careful!

As of yesterday, I recomitted myself to tracking daily again!! Obviously, not tracking wasn't working since I gained 5 lbs. I went to zumba last night and it was awesome. Feeling it today, but of course in a good way. Feeling so good that I gave the Kitchen a deep clean...hoping I can keep it up this time!!

January I was 332, now I'm 310... not exactly where I wanted to be, but at least it's in the right direction.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.
200 plus lbs lost without surgery, crazy diets, or extreme exercise- so have hope!

I recommitted July 1st and its going really well so far. I am determined to get this weight off and can get 2 pounds per week if I really try. I'm actually exercising again and tracking everything. I've stayed in my calorie range for several days now. HOORAY! I think this time its going to work.

Kauai-Carolann,
At this moment the 25 lb challenge quarterly appears to be the only challenge on our team. Myself and Be-the-Change (Debbie) is all she has been able to put together with our available time. I myself am very sorry for this, and desire to be done with my huge home project that eats up the free time I rather use for myself exercising and being a better team leader. A few months ago we had sent out a request seeking more team leaders and that fell short.

If you know anyone who may be interested who has at least a few months of Spark under their belt, comments to others, has the available time, and has made some progress we would be happy to have them on our team leader board ;) I will put together another team email soon and hopefully we can find some willing additions.

Thanks!
-Renee

Can I ask a question?

Where are the challenges? Did I miss them?

I mean, I realize we are trying to lose 25 pounds (each quarter)....and that is a challange, no doubt....really, I have no doubt that is a daunting challenge, I'm freaked.

My question is.....where are the challenges to get us moving, thinking, planning, setting weekly goals, monthly goals? and I don't mean this in a rude way, really!

I want to lose and bad! But also know there's more involved than a weekly weigh-in and a 90 day goal of 25 pounds....show me the way!
