After dinner dishes til bed are my most difficult times. If I have a very hard time of it I'll eat a bowl of oatmeal rather than try to snack it away, maybe a piece of multi-grain toast with a piece of cheese melted onto it under the broiler. The protein and fiber go a lot farther than a stalk of celery for satisfying me. Of course, I eat the celery, too. lol

Evenings are awful for me. I try to keep things in the fridge that are very low cal, like lettuce and salad items. I think it is better to eat something like that than to be tempted by high calorie snacks. Maybe I am strange; who eats salad at 9:00 at night? LOL

Dinner to bedtime for me, too, though some mornings I wish I could just eat eggs one after another. Don't know where that came from.

My afternoons are now filled with sugar-free popsickels so that if I want to have an extra I can. They are so refreshing.

That's such a good success strategy, Deb, keeping healthy alternatives handy. Our bodies' cycles are what they are and we can try to manipulate them with good sleeping and fitness habits, but sometimes they are just THERE. Best to prepare for those snack attacks with things that fit into our daily nutrition goals!

Hi Deb,

I've heard of a sugar daddy but never a sugar horse. That is a great image. Let's see if anyone else has the afternoon munchies. -- Lou

Hi! I'm new to the team, and late for the thread!! But I wonder if there are any like me--my time of great danger is around 3:00 in the afternoon. I do fine at night, and really most of the day, but man alive, at 3:00 I can eat a HORSE! At least I could if it's made of sugar--I'm especially fond of sweets!

I do try to manage it, sometimes more successfully than others. Some times--on the weekends, mostly--I just deal wiht it by giving in! ;) But during the week I work hard to have snacks--protein bars, raisins, sweet but healthy stuff.

This will sound funny, but when I am hungry. I eat more when I am not satified with what I have already eaten. It will usually come towards the end of the day when I have no more calories to spare.

OK - I admit to eating my popcorn as I respond to this question, but I am like most of you - dinner through bedtime. Reading a good book usually helps.

I was greatly relieved to read the Spark article that explains that our calorie allotment per day is not affected by what time of day we consume them. Long as we've budgeted for the calories, eating a snack between dinner and bedtime is not a cardinal sin!

Dinnertime to bedtime seems to be the favorite snacktime. I can stay busy during the day and forget about eating, but come evening about 2 hours after dinner I start feeling hungry. I usually have about 1/2 cup of Kashi cereal which is high in fiber and if I have them add sum blueberries and 1/2 cup of skim milk. That usually does the trick. All bets are off though, if for some reason there are cookies or cake in the house.

My massage therapist told me that eating high fiber cereal and fruit before going to be will aid in digestion. What do you think?

Having spent most of the last 20 years working through the night, transcribing trials and depositions as my children slept, I would nibble as I worked, partly to stay awake. Bad, bad, bad habit! It stuck. Now, nights are the worst for me, too. I try to factor in snacks that are within my values to accommodate that time of munchiness so that I don't turn to food outside my goals.

Hi, from dinner to bed time is actually when I get on the tread mill. I have also found out in the past if I eat before bed I will wake up with night sweats, swelling and just feeling nasty. Maybe you can try subliminally convincing yourself you will have a better night sleep if you do not eat,you food will digest better and you will wake up feeling GREAT!
