Oh! I forgot that we support them, too. SUCH a good cause. When I was staff at Teen Challenge we attended some of Prison Fellowship's workshops. What a testimony Chuck Colson has. (Angel Tree is part of Prison Fellowship for those who may not know.)

I love when you go all long winded on us, Greg!!

I believe the Word of God, and it tells me that if I give so much as a glass of water to someone in His name, it's as thought I've given it directly to Him. How can we EVER love Him enough??? Never, but we do put a little dent in it by loving others, actively, hands-on, sacrifically loving them.

James 2 :15-16
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

I am so blessed to see so many of our brothers and sisters in Christ doing things for those who need help. And I am sure that there are many others out there who help out neighbors, family members and even strangers. Weather you help out with a group or do it on your own, when you do these wonderful things, you are not doing them of your own accord. It is the Love of Christ that dwells in you that causes you to show your faith by yours works. In helping others with their needs, you are doing what Jesus did for us. We had a need that needed to be met and He met that need by dying on the Cross for our sins. And as He blessed us by reaching out to us, we can also help others by reaching out to them!

Sorry I got long winded, but I just wanted to tell you all that I am so glad to be apart of a family that is so loving. The Family of God.

In Jesus Name
Greg

We support our local homeless shelter. The director gets no municipal support because she doesn't want governmental restrictions on her freedom of religion. Our kids help provide and set up a Christmas tree there. We gather needed items throughout the year for them. We sponsor their residents at Christmas with gifts. We provide Thanksgiving dinner for them, that kind of thing, in addition to monetary gifts.

I support Teen Challenge because I worked with them as a resident teacher, counselor in my younger days, in crisis intervention, street evangelism, prison ministry, etc.

We support a MAPS team, retired folks who travel the nation in RVs and provide their skills (free of charge) to help build, rebuild, repair churches, church campgrounds, etc. Awesome ministry.

We support St. Jude's Children's Hospital because my husband's little brother was very ill and died at six years of age (when my husband was nine), and they helped him a lot.

We support Ronald McDonald House because they have provided a lot of care for friends we love a lot.

We provide financial support and elbow grease and prayer for our church's outreaches, clothes closet, food pantry, annual school supply drive, benovalence ministry (we organize, cook, and deliver food for families who've had deaths so the after-funeral crowd won't be a worry for them), missions, etc.

I am touched to see what so many of you do. Because we live on such a small salary, I do not really have the money to support any charities. I don't know if this really counts or not; but when we have tenants move out, and we clean the rooms, I do organize and distribute the food to other tenants that have need. I also go through our cupboards, and fill bags with food items for tenants who have no food. When I have the funds to do so, I will go to the store and purchase food for them. I try to pick up extra shampoo, conditioner, tooth paste, hair brushes, etc. to have on hand, because there is always a need for those items, too. I also make baby blankets for the mom's who have babies while they are here. It may not be the same as actively supporting a charity; but we really do give in any way we can.

Great thread, Lou. And as more and more of us post we can get ideas from etch other.

Aside of things I do with my church like the food pantry I volunteer at New Life Evangalistic Center downtown. It is the largest and most effective homeless center in our area. I usually do phone banks when they have a pledge drive.

The majority of my emotional energy goes to two orphanages in Haiti. The one I love the most and visit every year is on the northern coast in Cap Haitian. I sponsor two boys there and have the most fun sending care packages every other week for my kids but mostly for my friend Bob, the missionary who runs it. www.haitichurchofchrist.org/index.ht
ml

If you go to the website two things should be of real interest (and I know Bob would appreciate prayers. On Bob's page, click the tab for Asile at Grand Rivier. An Asile is a hospice where the poor go to die - usually with no medical attention. It just breaks my heart.

Then scroll down to the very bottom of Bob's page to October 3b. If you have never been to a third world country as I hadn't, this will give you a trip through the town. Watch the videos - they are only 15 sec to a minute apiece. It's very interesting.

I'm very drawn to the homeless and am wanting to do something more hands on. If you have ideas, I'd love them.

Great post Lou.
I work at a food ministry at a church and I also work in a reading program for children and adults. I am also active in a group called Pray for Newark, which prays for streets in Newark, New Jersey, near where I live

Greg, BIGDAD1211, asked this question as part of another post. It seemed an important one so let's open it up for discussion.

I collect unneeded cell phones for the elderly and women and children victims of domestic violence that they can use to dial 911 in an emergency.

I am also active in literacy causes and highway safety. To view the highway safety video I produced, please use this link: blutube.policeone.com/Clip.aspx?key=

This was an all-volunteer effort so no none benefits financially or otherwise from this video being viewed. Please feel comfortable passing along the link. Thank you.

Lou
