Mine loves his bath and tears around the house when I am done with him. I can't slow him down after the bath. It is so funny to watch.

And when we have all 5 of them out and about..they run in circles as fast as they can..through the kitchen..hallway..living room and back through the kitchen. We call it the "Tzu 500" lol.

Well we got our first shih tzu a few years ago. I was never allowed to have a dog growing up because my stepdad claims all they do is tear up the yard and make a mess. So first thing I did once I bought my own home was go hunting for the perfect dog!

At the time, our son was only 2 years old. The first dog we got we adopted from an animal shelter. We didn't expect her to get nearly as big as she did and we had trouble keeping her from destroying everything in the house. When she got bigger, she constantly jumped up on our son accidentally scratching him and knocking him over. It came to the point that my SO's parents who live on a farm had to take her in because she just wasn't compatible with our son.

So the hunt continued...

I stumbled upon a website of a lady who breeds tzu's. Once I saw a picture, I was instantly in love! So we bought her and when I saw her in person for the first time I remember thinking to myself "she is the CUTEST dog I have ever ever seen!". Elli is such a laid back sweetie with her prissy-girl moments. She thinks she's queen of the house but she's my baby girl.

We adored her SO much that it wasn't 3 months later and we were looking to get her a friend. We found our male Bacardi and he was just a little teddy bear. Needless to say, I decided to embark on the adventure of breeding these darling little creatures. So after lots of reading, researching and learning from other tzu breeders..we now have 2 males and 2 females that we breed. We have a litter now that is 8 weeks. They are SO much fun to have around and they are so good with kids.

We also have another male tzu, Bob, that we do not breed. We bought him for our 6 year old. I found Bob on a breeder's website as well. He's our "special" boy because he was born with just a little nub for a tail, also known as a bobtail (hence the name Bob). He is so attached to our son and wants to sleep in his bed every night. I just can't get enough of these awesome little dogs!

Well..that's my novel for the day (:

Well, I'm new to the TEAM.. My name is Avrol and I live in NC. My Shih-tzu's name is Shelby and she is my 9 lb. baby and the love of my life. I bought her from a breeder (in Shelby, NC hence the name) shortly after I graduated from college. I try my best to spoil her rotten! She has her own car seat and her own miniture bed, both with her name on it. Her big eyes and spunky attitude keep me laughing and smiling. She has brought so much joy into my life and I love babying her. She likes to be pampered and expresses her dissatisfaction with a grunt if she doesn't get her way or gets jealous. She loves grapes, apples, oranges, mini marshmallows, granola, and frosted mini wheats as TREATS... Well I look forward to meeting you and your babies as we venture on with our healthy lifestyles. emoticon

He really loves to be a part of the dancing. He has to be right with me when I am doing it. I think he has had way too many treats and needs to start dancing with me to burn some of those calories off! LOL!!

OK well I think Harley wanted me to get in a good workout last night. I was playing my Dance Dance Revolution. There was a minute break so I ran to the kitchen to get some water. While I was gone Harley got on the dance mat and changed the level to advanced - I was as beginner and struggling. I didn't realize he changed it and boy I was dying after about a minute! LOL!! Oh well we had lots of fun dancing around the living room last night adn I burned lots of calories. It keeps track of your calories that you burn. I really like the fitness mode because you put in your weight and all your information and then the time you want to go and it does the rest.

Hi; I have my bowls in a holder off the floor. I had 2 puppies from the last litter climb into the water bowls or put their front feet in them and push them all around the kitchen floor till they were empty. A real hoot to watch but what a mess to clean up. We used to say the puppies are surfing again. Well it took a little effort to stop them and one was to buy dishes that were contained in a heavy metal holder off the ground. Even at that I still had to keep an eye on them and scold them if they tried to put their paws into the dishes to splash and play.
When I take my socks off the first thing Lin does is take off with one and put it in her kennel, where she choses to sleep.

I think its just because Harley is too lazy. He likes to sleep and lay around so he likes to lay down and eat.

I finannly found someone to share the bra issue!!

What's the fetish with tat? Since we are all ladies here..Jester always takes my bra and plays with them!! Sometimes he will just put it his toy box. I can never leave my cupboard open coz I will know that Jester will drag out my bras!! (Its placed in the lower deck of my cupboard)..haiz

As for dragging the food bowl, Jester never moves his mayb coz its too heavy. But whenever I feed him his treats, he will put away from me and eat it in a corner as though I will steal it from him!

Taking food from their bowls and carrying it else where is a big thing in my household too. Silly isn't it. My little male Lu will take his and bury it somewhere under the blankets or under the cushions or under a sock, where ever so he can eat later. I guess the couch is a softer place to eat than from the bowl on the floor.

He would go right beside it no matter how many we put out!!Then we tried a baby gate when we went to work came home the first day and he had jumped over it...now he doesn't go in house at all but does like to drag my clothes out of hamper when he's alone...

I got so lucky with Chelsea. When I first bought her we had a fenced in yard with doggie doors. After we moved the idea of boundries sort of just stuck with her although as a younger dog she did test me sometimes. We now live on 3 acres, and she stays mostly in the backyard but she is funny. When we let her out to potty she prefers to go out the glass sliding door in the back of the house. Then, she goes and sniffs her "spot" for a few minutes and takes care of business. The "spot" changes from time to time, but then she usually prefers to walk around to the front of the house and bark at the front door to be let in.

By the way, does anyone elses Shih Tzu take food from thier bowl and carry it somewhere else to eat it? I have cleaned up dog food pieces from my bedroom and living room. She hardly ever eats right at her bowl.

I had Harley trained on a pee pad but he just loves going outside so much that I don't want to take that from him. He is not a show dog so it is OK if he wants to play out there and get all dirty. He's a typical little boy. Just in the morning when I am short on time and the weather is bad I don't want to play. He doesn't understand that and I really can't expect him too. I also don't cage him while I am gone. His "Grandma's" take care of him while I am at work. He is very spoiled. I don't have any children of my own so why not???

Hi, just thought I would drop in and say hello once again.
My little 8 month old girl is potty trained to the pee pad as I have to watch she doesn't damage her coat out in the bad weather and doesn't get too dirty when it comes near show time. She does get out though, I walk her and let her out other times when the weather is good, and not wet, when it is sunny and cold in the winter and not slushy sticky snow. She also has free run of the house, as I do not believe in cage rasing my show dogs, I think it is a mean way to raise a dog, even if they are pampered and groomed every day. Puppies need to be socialized and can't do that from cage raising.
Right now my little Reyven has five puppies born December 23, they are almost three weeks old now. Lin the puppy is her friend. It is so funny Reyven allows her to watch over her puppies for her when she goes to eat or go outside in the yard. When Reyven is in her box nursing she even allows Lin to come into the box and lay down with her and watch. As soon as puppy crawls close enough to touch her she is out like a flash though. So funny to watch. My daughter had picked the puppies up to look at them the other day and Lin got so upset that they were not in the whelping box were they should be.
I find loving homes for my puppies, screen prospective buyers have a take back policy and keep in touch over the years and offer aid and support in raising my little darlings. So far I have lost contact on only one puppy and it worries me when ever I think about him. They are such loving little dogs that steal a piece of your heart forever.

I live in an apartment so I have to take him outside. I don't let him wander because he is so friendly that he runs up to everyone around for attention. I am afraid he will run into the parking lot and get hit. That's my challenge because I don't mind being outside when the weather is decent but like this morning when it was pouring down rain I really didn't like it out there especially when I have to leave for work.

I think you should just let him play in it. My princess is 12 and I wish she would still play like she used to. She plays, but only for a few minutes now. Mostly she just follows me around the house. Shih Tzu's are easy to wash. They fit right in the kitchen sink. Plus he's dark right, so whats a little dirt?

I put Chelsea's hair up today, it was hanging over her eyes. I have let it grow long for the winter months. My husband says she looks like a Who...so weve been calling her Chelsea Sue Who lately. I can't wait until the summer when I can get it all cut off. She acts like a totally different dog for awhile when she gets a hair cut.

Good Morning Everyone. I hope everyone is having a great day.

I am having a little problem lately with the potty training. It has been raining like crazy outside and of course my puppy wants to play in it. I really hate standing out there in the rain but he just won't go because he is too side tracked playing in the mud.

Hi Jeannie..

Well its is interesting how our dogs will always come to us for affection no matter how much we scold them. In fact, the more we scold them, the more they want our attention..

wonder why men are not like that..ahem

anw actually my man is alright..he adores Jester to the core and he is more of the financer than the caregiver emoticon

That's a great story. I got my baby when me and my husband seperated. Now I wouldn't trade him for the world. He has a better attitude and is much easier to train than any other man I have come across.

My story is a little long, but I do love to tell it. I was 19 (I'm 31 now) and working in a pet store in a mall. Had I known then what I know now I never would have worked there. But, I also had no plans to buy a dog. I didn't want anything I would have to treat like a child. About six months after I started we got this little shih tzu in. She was so pompous and took to me right away. When I would go into the kennel to get any puppy at all she would sit up on her butt next to the the kennel door with her little hind legs sticking out front, leaning back on the wall of the kennel. She would put one arm up on the gate and she would give me this look like I'm right here. I even tried to sell her twice but they didn't buy her. We wore aprons at work and one day I got her out and tucked her into the front of my apron. She walked around the store and down the hall of the mall (I had to go get a pop.) like she was meant to ride in my apron. So from then on when I would have to put away stock or do other things in the store, I would get her out and she would stay right by my feet and follow me around. My manager, who also had a Shih Tzu noticed and thought it was funny. I then asked my manager one night if I could just take her home for one night to see how she worked out. She laughed and said sure. I got my puppy in the car and before we got home I had her named. If anyone is from MI and you know where I-75 and 696 meet, its right there that I looked at her and said "Chelsea" and knew I would be cutting a check at work the next day. We immediatley went to a pet supply store and I got some People Cookies to help with potty training. If you've never heard of them they are cookies shaped like the mailman, the milk man, ect. That both people and dogs can eat. She did not ever have one, becuz she wouldn't eat them. I found out later she is a very picky treat eater. Anyway, my friend later helped me come up with a name for her. Her whole name is Chelsea Sue Kissy Foo-Leah. She is 12 now, and I can't imagine my life without her. She chewed my shoe one time, I told her no, she had never chewed anything since. Always good for grooming, (not her favorite thing to do but she tolerates it well) never bit anyone and very tolerant of children. She is most definately the best thing in my life, and yes I am married, my husband is good too, but Chelsea has a better attitude.

Love all the attention I get from my doggie kids. Keeps me busy looking after them. I have a partially disabled husband that needs some looking after, so when I'm down they perk me right up.

You have so many pets!! I'm having a tough time just handling now.:P

You know I have never ever trimmed Jester's toes. I think I'm more of scared to like I will hurt him or something. I always get my groomer to do it. It's part of the package. Besides it will be tough for him to stay in one place. He's always so restless. The only thing he actually stands still for is when i brush his hair.

Anyway Welcome to the team!! Looking forward to knwing you!!

Much love

Hi I'm new to this team, didn't know it existed. I Have 3 shih tzu's, two are registered and one isn't. Also at present I have 5 new puppies, born Dec. 23.
My first little darling was given to me by my daughter. It was one of her shih tzu's babies. No one knew how much I loved the shih tzu's and wanted one till my daughter got one for herself. Her's is a darling little black and white girl who is now spayed, name of Gizmo. My little girl is also black and white, her name is Reyven. My two registered kids are Xaolin Xuit Lu{LU] a little register male that I showed as a puppy, he never grew big enough to compete succesfully as an adult but got a lot of ribbons as a puppy. He is now a daddy doggy and exceptionally good little sire. He is silver, black and white. My newest little girl is a brindle and white registered shih tzu. She is 8 months old now. Her name is Xao Lin Qi {Lin]. Just love all the colors in her coat, from bright gold, red, blonde, black and shades of brown, and some white. She has been at 2 shows so far and has 2 points towards her championship.
Reyven and Lu I keep short cut. Lin on the other hand is in full coat and requires grooming everyday.
She is just finishing blowing her puppy coat and her adult coat is coming in gorgeous, almost touching the ground from her belly. She loves to be groomed also as it means treat time.
Today was nail cutting day. Lots of laughs. I started out cutting my toenails first and they all disappeared, funny or what? So I thought well they are due, so let's do them all to. I started with out basenji Tomi, he objected but didn't go running, then I hunted down my little Lin, she protested the whole time, ya think I was going to cut her toes off not just the nails. Then Reyven who gave a little protest but stayed and was the best trooper. Lu I had my granddaughter hold, he cried but wasn't too bad either. Quite the line up. Lu also had his bath, I couldn't find the hair dryer to dry Lin so she has a reprieve till tomorrow.
Lots of companionship and love and so bonded to me are my girls. Lu on the other hand has bonded to my daughter and her family who live upstairs so he comes and goes as he pleases. He is really bonded to my 2 1/2 yr, old grandson, and his newest pal a cat named Buddy, who is actually taller than him, they play constantly. Fun to watch.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

I know what your sayin about the Christmas tree!! Isabelle, my boston, and Sophie are constantly in the tree!! They have stolen more than a few ornaments and chewed them up! The lights are also hanging off since they like to chase one another around the tree! It's a constant battle with the two of them! So much trouble but yet so darling. emoticon

Good Morning Everyone. Thank goodness its Friday.

Well Harley got into the Christmas tree again last night. What a mess. I know now that my biggest New Year's resolution is to get him trained a little better.

He always gets the puppy cut too. He just looks so cute with it.

Last night he tried eating my Christmas tree. He chewed up a few ornaments and tore the garland off and chewed that all up. I am surprised he didn't knock the darn thing over. It's an 8 ft tree so he could have done a lot more damage. The Angel on top was even spun around. He must have been yanking pretty hard at it. LOL! What a mess when I got home. I still have more to clean up tonight. I had a final last night so I didn't get home until late and just didn't want to deal with the whole mess then.

What cut did you give him? I always give mine a puppy cut (like the pic in my sparkpage). I feel that he looks neater and more like a puppy!! Mine hates to be groomed..he always fidgeting around..But he loves being brushed emoticon

I got Harley groomed last night - he looks so pretty. He is such a ham - he keeps running around showing of his new haircut and wants constant attention.

I have always loved animals. I already had a cat but my husband hated them. Not that he hated dogs but he hated the mess animals made. When I moved out my sister-in-law had this puppy that she needed to get rid of and she asked me if I wanted him. How could I say no.

He really has brought me an incredible amount of joy through this really hard time in my life.

Yours is such a cutie too!!

Its really interesting how god's creatures can bring so much joy to one's life..Jester,my puppy, gives me the same joy as Harley does..the irony is that i used to be afraid of dogs til jester came into the pic. I don't know what came over me when one day i expressed an interest to get a puppy. went around several places and finally i found the special one that i and my bf could click with...

I got my puppy when I seperated from my husband. He has been great company (the puppy) and he has helped fill the void I have. I named him Harley and I don't know what I would do without him in my life anymore. He is a Shih Tzu / Pug mix and he is about 8 months old now.
