Frances and Leona, our Gov. opened the 1st faze of our state, the north west, which includes us as well, as some other cities actually across, the state, it lets bars retail stores and restaurants open , bars at midnight last Fri. night, and the Goodwill I go to was opened up on Sat. but, the Salvation Army store I sometimes go to was not open, because I drove by their door and they had a cart up against it. Also Restaurants, some have not opened and some have, and some are just doing curb side where they have been doing only take out. They still have to social distance and wear a mask to wait on customers and customers are suppose to wear a mask into the store, then you can take it off and make sure you wear a mask out of the store, well, she opened up these places and then called for stay at home order until June 12, which makes no sense People i the goodwill were social distancing very well, I thought as well as I did also, I kind of think it is a mixed up mess, Lol

I tryed to find some more Gold color for my Temp. blanket, but it's all gone and so I bought some sun gold and it is much darker then the plain gold?

Hello all,

Rosie- Goodwill and the other thrift store I go have not yet opened.

I am whip stitching the lining for my daughter's crocheted mask and it is a real pain. The material does not fray so I am not doing a hem. Three of my finger tips on my right hand are numb and I broke the thumb on my right hand many years ago so having problems. I will make it.

NAS- You are right and like Frances says rant. We will listen. emoticon

Mareen- My husband bought his hearing aids at Costco. Months later they sent him a refund check as the price had gone down. He was happy with them and Costco will readjust for no charge.

Two flowers we do not have in West Texas are peonies and lilacs and I love both of them. Both mean Spring.

Frances - I am with you on the reading. I took a class in college and read 1500 words in 1 minute and retained 80%. I got a good grade but like to enjoy my books and rarely speed read.

Watching Gilligan's Island today. Russell Johnson, who was the Professor, visited my hometown years ago and ate a family Mexican restaurant. This family has family pictures all over the walls and he signed a picture for them and it is on the wall.
I miss those restaurants. You also see families say their prayer before a meal in my part of the country.

I have not seen messages from Bette either.

I have been sitting outside to get some VIT D and enjoy the outdoors. I do wear hat since I am bald on the top of my head.

Need to finish the lining.
Take care,
Leona

HELLO, I just read the posts and will not stay here long but only to tell you the I had a very enjoyable breakfast with my son and with Cindy. After brunch we watched another episode of one of their favorites on Acorn. They wanted me to see it and they actually seemed to enjoy it for the second time. It is in six episodes and so I am watching them weekly. It is filmed in Italy and has the Italian dialogue with subtitles.

Well they have emailed me that my book Anema' Core is now on Kindle and also ready for sale as well. You can go to Amazon and see the cover and look inside as they let one do. If anyone is interested? I will be grateful for anyone who might write a review as that sells more books even though I have written this mainly for the family and close friends, It does touch persons who have lost a family member. most especially a husband.

Here is a short poem on page 45 of my book. The book has a total of 108 pages.

Hermitage

The images are strong and clear,
remembrance is sweeter dear
perhaps than even on the day
when first I gave my love away.

No human hand can ever take
this bittersweet and lovely ache
from here within my secret sighs
or steal the memory of your eyes.

Doris Dix Caruso

For the remainder of your Sunday...Enjoy! Best to all for a salute to our fallen heroes tomorrow, Doris

Goof Morning, another lovely day here but rain in the forecast. Will wait and see if it comes, or not. Frances , my only trouble was hearing some of what was said, but that's because I'm waiting for hearing aids. Mostly everyone made sure I heard when they were talking to me and wanted a reply. It was so nice to sit outside under a big shady tree with a nice breeze. The price for the same one at Costco is half what my Hearing Centre wants . even with a small yearly fee to have a Costco membership. What can I say to that.??
Quiet morning here ,and I have a book to read for a awhile , unless the phone rings . Take care and I will peek back in later to keep up with everyone. emoticon Maureen

Good morning. Cloudy here and chance of rain today. I hope we get some. If it doesnít rain I will try get out and do something. I sure havenít had any energy or ambition to do things and I really need to get some. Yesterday was a lovely day as the sun came out and we had temps in the upper 70s. I was tired all day but did get a little walking in. I hope you all have a good day today.

Good morning! A slower start to the day - I'm feeling the need for a slight shift in routine. I'll probably spend some time in the back yard.

Nas, you may as well rant - everyone else seems to be doing so. We all feel strongly about the changes in our lives, and probably frustrated that it's going on so long, too. Six months after the quarantines are lifted everyone will have forgotten it and will be fighting over something else, no doubt.

Rosie, I'm surprised Goodwill is open for shopping. As far as I know, we are still limited to only specific businesses - and primarily curb service for those. Since I don't patronize any, I'm not positive.

Maureen, your flower beds sound pretty. I've seen pictures of people sitting outdoors with their chairs spaced well apart and wonder how they can converse.

Leona, I've ordered a few things from amazon during the quarantine. I don't have prime because it violates my rule of never paying someone for the "privilege" of giving them my business (same with Costco, BJs, etc) - so I was amused that their shipping now takes 2 weeks without it. Not a problem for me because I plan ahead with purchases, anyway - but another strike against amazon, that they manipulate their customers in such ways.

Mel, do you enjoy reading at speed? I average a little over a book a week and enjoy taking the journey at its written pace - some books are like a box of chocolates and devoured quickly, some pass leisurely to savor each moment. Best wishes for your brother's return to health. I'm sure it's hard for you to have to stay at a distance.

Camey, the only test I took when I got my license renewed was the eye exam - and I removed my eyeglasses to do it. I did go to the DMV (this was last year). Of course, New York will give a license to a donkey as long as the forms are filled out. LOL

Doris, I do find myself checking the calendar more often than usual. The day, the date, the month - sometimes even the year seem to evade me!

Leona, when you were at the other group/site did you notice if Bette was there? She's been MIA for a while now, which isn't like her.

On with the day!

Yes Frances then I do not have to wear a mask & if that is true about there being more Amazon memberships why fuss about churches opening. emoticon & many good wishes for your brother's recovery, Mel. Thank you Leona we need so many prayers. It is horrendous to be far from loved ones when they are unwell, Doris, I know. Great post Maureen my plants are doing well too. Good you went to Goodwill & got so much yarn, Rosie do post pictures of what you make. I read some where that masks might make asthma sufferers unable to breathe. About opening anything am so angry that when even the Holiest Mosques of Islam have been shut down the fools of so called ignorant religious people insist on people of Bangladesh to go to the Mosque for prayers or start open air prayer meetings to save us. Problem is we are a third world country & so many people will die in any case due to lack of medical attention. No need to add to that number. Now stop ranting N F K.

Thank you, emoticon Maureen, Best Wishes for a lovely weekend for you and your hubby as well,

I actually went out to Goodwill, today, as I had some stuff to donate, and they had 3 big boxes outside their doors to put stuff in and a sign on them saying Quarantine for 72 hours, Yes, I put my mask on when giving them to the attendant, and he had a mask and gloves on, I also did go inside because I wanted to see if they had any yarn and they sure did, a lot of it, many not even used and 2-3 in a zip lock bag, for $2.99 each, so I grabbed a bunch and bought them,, I got quite a few, (maybe more then I should have) I really wish I could have gotten more, but, I will check when I get to go again. And Yes, I had my Mask on and some Gloves, because I did look at some other things as well. I also maintained a 6' distance while in there. there were signs up for that as well.

Good Evening Dear Friends. It has been a busy day for me ,changing beds , laundry and getting it dried and all put away. DH was cutting the lawn and planting some flowers we picked up yesterday to fill in my front flower bed when the tulips are finished. The peonies fill about the biggest half near the back part so needed a filler for the front nearer to the street. Marigolds and some spreading blue flowers , not sure what they are called. just looked nice.
Went out for a drive this afternoon to visit some friends on a small farm down near Bradford. sat out in lawn chairs with lots of room between each of us., warm sunny, restful visit. Pizza supper on paper plates , real nice picnic, Not much traffic on HWY 400 driving into Barrie, on the way home, caught a little more on HWY 27 from there into Midland.
Frances, interesting notes about your friend's book . might have to check and see if it can be found locally in paper back.. Not sure if it is my kind of reading. material. Hope you maybe got a nap or are able to get a better night's sleep tonight. Don't let your characters keep you awake too much. LOL.
Mel sorry about your Brother, hope things settle down and of course prayers follow for a complete recovery.
Good wishes for all, Rosie , Leona, Sharon, Nas, Camey, Doris , for a lovely weekend.
time to say Good Night God Bless Sweet Dreams Stay Safe. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Mel- So sorry to hear about your brother. Prayers for a quick recovery. emoticon

I accidentally clicked on the quick check in message board and see Carol and others are there.

Frances- emoticon about the "balloons".

My daughter has prime and has ordered me things like mouthwash and Sweet 'n Low. I prefer local shopping but things have changed.

I am reading A Tale of Two Cities now. emoticon
Also watched Miss Peregrine and the Home of the Peculiar Children. Strange movie. I have seen the book and movie mentioned so many times, I thought I should at least watch it. emoticon

Almost finished with my daughter's pink mask. Tomorrow I will do the linings.

Hearing thunder and getting windy. Have had rain off and on today.
Just turned on FOX to get updates and see one of the Carolinas had a tornado and at least two have died. emoticon I missed the beginning of the news.

I also saw earlier that a church in Mississippi was burned. emoticon emoticon

NAS- Also saying prayers for your country. emoticon

Take care,

Still staying home. Will wait it out and see if anything spikes in the future.
Will let the young ones get out and test the water.
I have a routine going and it works for me.

Reading a lot. I am a speed reader, so I can usually finish a book in a day. But, last night I stayed up until one to finish the book.

My older brother was playing golf on Thursday and slipped and fell into a gulley. Did damage to his neck. He had surgery last night and now we are waiting. They did put him ICU today as his blood was going low and then high. If this means the end to his golf, he will be devastated, as that is his own life. He is 86. So I will stay off the phone today, so I can be reached at anytime. He is in Wisconsin.

Take care

Good morning. The sun is shining this morning and it is 66 degrees out right now with temps near 80 today. There are a few chances of light showers but not a good chance. We could use rain. Today I will get out in the yard and get some more things done. Marshall mowed and weed whacked yesterday so that is done and it is looking pretty good. Yesterday I did get a couple things done but still not a lot. I need to do more and will keep working at it. Hope you have a good day and that you are staying safe.

I was so nervous as had to go for my license at AAA. You can if you are a member. You had to make appointment. I was afraid I would not be able to read the letters and then they had colors and blinking lights. They said at age 70 you need a test. My gf is 87 and she did hers on the computer and did not have a test and she got it. Just is not fair that you have to take test if you do not do it on computer. Well, I have a temp until my real one comes. God know when with the virus and few people working. DH wanted me to get the real one but we are not going anywhere with this virus still hanging around. Saw where a plane had every seat filled and they are suppose to space. Scary. Also heard you need to cover your eyes as you can get it in them too like a doc that show who was in the hospital after he got it in his eyes from a plane ride.

No washing today so may just take it easy. It is starting to cloud up after a beautiful day yesterday which we ended up with ac on because it hit almost 90 in the sun and the house was 80. Change in weather can be depressing as now we could have showers and going down from 70 to 58 and tomorrow in the 50 range.

Funny that your DD was born on August 29, Leona, its the day I got my sister. Great you know an author Frances. Loved the poem Doris. Called some relatives of my husband as they live in the area affected by the cyclone, they did are well. But someone else we know has lost his house & crops. About this pandemic they say to be careful & wear masks etc. Cant understand how it affects your freedom if you wear a mask to avoid giving your germs to someone else. We are Ok but worried sick with how people ate starving here.

Saturday already!... Don't these weeks seem to fly by and it is sometimes difficult to remember which day it truly is?

Leona, Sorry about your State Fair, but the edict is most probably the wisest. I feel most fairs etc, should be skipped this year. I am truly surprised that Disney venues are opening. Yes, I agree with most of you that there will be an upsurge of Corona cases after this 'opening' of all the stores, bars, etc

I, for one am certainly content to wait until all of the possibility of my contacting the infection is over. Our society is over eager to 'get out' as if they were in jail or similar confinement. I just hope this does not trigger a huge surge in the virus. Yesterday was nine weeks' time that I have been here at home.

Frances, Yes once you begin with the novel-writing it seems to 'take over' your life.
You sort of live with the characters and they become very real to you. It is a kind of 'game' we play and again, as in our childhood, we are in a fairytale sort of world until we finally have it published Then we miss our characters greatly. At least that is my take on my experience in writing novels. Do not be frustrated by those willful people in your mind, they will tell you just how their existence develops.

Leona, My daughter is now on Prednisone and antibiotics for her painful leg and I will hear from her on Monday. I certainly hope that she will have good news then. Thanks for asking.

Well no news here except I am to see the final proofs arrive today for my book and if all is fine, I can order the finished volumes. I will probably start with about twenty to cover children, grandchildren and some friends who have been waiting for it. It is always a relief and a kind of pleasure when something you have worked on for months comes to fruition.

I will send you one of the poems from the book today.
Preface:
On our trips to Italy, we observed, along the roadside, the apparently older couple out in the olive grove, pruning the branches for yet another season. It was a lovely scene. We photographed one elderly couple doing this and the print hangs now in my living room, securing that sweet memory.

The Pruners
Poetry of the Italian Soul:

Ancient and gnarled as the limbs they prune
dutifully, two pay homage to one more spring,
connected to the other, as tree to branch,
in union, encircled by a wedding ring.

Forsaking wintry chill and released to feel
a thermal sun pull through antique bone,
voiceless, they sense this might be the time
that could leave one to trim vines alone.

Yet, should the fates permit this plight,
if such a destined day be looming,
then each will bless that vast godsend
for granting ...lovely years of pruning.

Doris Dix Caruso
from the volume: Anema ' Core.

Bless you, all, and have a wonderful Sunday and Memorial Day.
It has much meaning for me. Love, Doris

A quick Good Morning to all. I finally went to bed around 3 AM - may not make it through the day without a nap.

Leona, the writer is Zoje Stage - and her book is all over the internet. The first book is called "Baby Teeth" (a "bad seed" story from what I've seen) and the new one is a family trapped in an Adirondacks cabin by some sort of threat (reviews reference "The Shining"). Zoje is such a sweet little, soft-spoken woman you'd never guess!
My book is trying to be a cozy mystery. We shall see. LOL.

Rosie, I don't normally defend politicians but I really think they are all out of their depth with this one. All we can do is rely on Big Pharma to come up with a vaccine (oh dear - here we are needing another one of those "most hated in America" groups). Sorry - I'm more exhausted by the ongoing hatred in this country than by the virus. Too bad somebody can't find a vaccine for that!

I'm going to tiptoe back to my writing now...

Frances- I get those emails. What is her name?. How fun to see a friend's name.
Keep writing. What genre is your book?

Mary Lou-Always good to see you post. emoticon

A Pronto Pup is a hot dog on a wooden stick that has been dipped in a batter and deep fried. People put catsup or mustard on it.
"In most cases, a corn dog is dipped in a batter made with cornmeal or corn flour, while a pronto pup is generally made with a flour or pancake ..." I found this info on the internet.

Up early today. I like it is light outside early in the morning.
Supposed to rain the next three days. emoticon

Doris- How is your daughter?

Finished The Last Secret Chamber by Phil Philips. It started in Egypt and also had Atlantis and Stonehenge in the book. A touch of a couple of words I do not like, some death but otherwise fairly clean. I will read his other books. Science fiction I guess could describe it. I watch Stargate SG 1 most nights and like it. I have studied Egypt and Atlantis and been to Stonehenge so familiar with the names of people and the subjects.

Need to get some paperwork done today.

Take care,
Leona emoticon

Frances, we are on the first stage of opening up, too, but, our Gov. just ordered a stay at Home, until June 12th and she has already okayed a first open up in some areas, people here are out and about and there is much more traffic as people are traveling to the opened up places and I copied and pasted your words, this is also what my DD says/tells me

(Even if they don't get sick from it themselves, they could very well be spreading it to others - but of course they always have their excuses.) Myself, I don't see where it does any good, she opens up stuff, says to stay home, then orders stay at home until June 12th? The everybody says she's traveling to her other home in Mid northern Mi, By Traverse City, Mich.?

Well, another nice day here, sun is out, but, maybe rain at 2 pm

Just popping in after a few days. Keeping busy writing for the most part, but the weather has been wonderful and the back yard keeps calling.

I had a nice surprise the other day. I get a daily email from Literary Hub and one issue had a list of mystery and crime books coming out. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a woman I worked with at the library was a featured author of a new psychological thriller/horror book! And not only is it getting rave reviews, it turns out it's her second book - and I never knew. Macmillan published her first in 2018 and then it was published in England and translated for publication in a few other countries - and now a new one coming out in June. And, of course, she's working on a third. The stories are too creepy for me (she's been compared to Shirley Jackson crossed with Steven King) but a lot of people love what she writes. She went back to Pittsburgh right after I went to Virginia and we just lost touch - but I'm so proud of her of course I had to write to tell her. Well, that's probably more than you needed to hear - but I'm just really thrilled for her.

I'm still staying at home. We're technically at stage one of the reopening - which isn't much - but I've decided to hold off until I feel certain there won't be another wave of the virus. I know those in charge are trying to find some kind of balance between getting people back to work and getting the virus eliminated, but it seems to me that a lot of folks just run out to the stores and elsewhere for no good reason. Even if they don't get sick from it themselves, they could very well be spreading it to others - but of course they always have their excuses.

I really don't mind the quarantine. There's always plenty to do and I'm pretty self-reliant so I have no complaints - and the longer I'm isolated, the more natural it becomes.

My book is floundering at the moment. I always reach a point where the characters begin to take control of the story and go off in their own directions. This messes up my plot and usually means I have to rewrite or completely change things. So that's where I am now, with the central event totally switched around. I'll just keep writing and let those ornery characters figure out the plot for themselves, I guess. Ha - a "surprise" ending for the writer!

It's one in the morning and here I sit, rambling about nothing. A good sign I should take myself off to get some sleep.

Good Evening to all my Sparkly friends. Still nice and warm here and I'm feeling just a little bit on the lazy side. Not sure where my ambition has gone , just need to find it though.
Call for DH from a buddy, and he didn't hear the phone so I took a massage and said DH will call him back in a bit, when the puppies from up the street go home.
Not much else to say tonight but Good Night God Bless Sweet Dreams Stay Safe., emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maureen emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Our Gov. isn't very bright either, she opened up some places, like bars, restaurants, retail stores, and then makes it another Stay at Home until mid June? What sense did it make for her to open up stuff?

Hello all,

Minnesota has cancelled the Minnesota State Fair the end of August. My daughter's birthday is August 29 and a family tradition to celebrate and spend the day at the Fair. She has already ordered Pronto Pup Mix and will make some and take to the fairgrounds for her birthday. We have some empty containers of Sweet Martha's Cookies and she said they are at the supermarket in the frozen section.
We lived a few miles from the fairgrounds when the kids were in school and they and their friends would sit on our roof and watch the fireworks. emoticon

My oldest son came and mowed before it rained.

Need to get some work done. Been on the silly computer all day going through messages on LibraryThing and other sites..

Take care,
Leona emoticon

Just got off the phone with my interview for Who's Who in America. They up listed my bio with my two books I finished and the one I am writing. I am being listed with a special award for writing too which I may get in the mail. But they also tried to sell me a service on the web to contact writers for 200 dollars. I would not bite. So when the book comes out in 202l in the libraries I will go and copy my page instead of paying 50.00 to get the book.

Right now I am behind in cooking lunch, putting towels in dryer and taking clothes up from dryer.

So I am off.

Good morning. It is a grey day here today but temps will be in the 70s and we will see a little sunshine with a nice breeze. I am hoping to get out today and do something. It hasnít worked out for me so far this week but soon I hope. I canít believe it is Memorial Day weekend. It seems strange to say that school will soon be done when the kids havenít been in school for several months now. Everything is strange. Yesterday was a quiet day and didnít feel up to much but watch TV and rest. I need those days sometimes. Hope you all have a great long weekend and that you are able to do some of what you want to do.

Up very early again and so will come here to say good morning and then get on with my day.

I awoke at four again but stayed in bed until six. I decided to watch Netflix last evening and oh, did I ever choose an awful one. You just cannot tell what the story will be about by the very brief sentence that they show. I do wish that I remembered the title so that I could warn you of the violence in it, not a gun style but human misery of a family.

Well I will try again tonight. I do enjoy a sweet love story and a movie that takes place in some far off location in the world that I have not visited.

Well, enough of me. I now will choose a poem that some might enjoy.

Here is one that I found only about three weeks ago in some small notes that I had put aside for many years. It was mixed up in paperwork from about the 40's I would judge, and written before I was married. Tomorrow is the anniversary of my first date with my darling. May 23, 1942, We went to play my first round of golf on a sunny, lovely afternoon in the park.
Can you believe, that was 78 years ago tomorrow? Probably longer than many of you have lived.! It surely has been an enchanting, wonderful lifelong romance!

Love Song.

You know my heart as well as I,
No need for a formal card to gauge it by.

For when the pulse beat in my veins does start
That sympathetic beat is in your heart.

Our poetry of love is of a kind
that seems the finest, freest come to mind.

So, let me tell you once and then once more,
You are the being I am living for.

So sorry, Nas to hear about the tragedy, I don't think I heard it on the news, will send emoticon

Unfortunately there was a forest fire outside of town this afternoon, I;m not sure of thee damage, but, I believe they got it under control and I don't think there were any injuries, at least, I have not heard of any.

I went today to check out an old one room school, that used to operate, years ago, then it was used for a town hall, now, it is a church, a catholic church and the sermon is always in Latin, yet there.

It's been a really nice beautiful day, today with sun shine and all emoticon

Dear Nas,

Yes I thought immediately of you when I heard the terrible news this morning. I am glad that you are well but I will be praying for all of the persons who lost their lives, property, and all of the sadness there. Be safe and know I am thinking of you.

Our lives are so met with tragedy in this year of 2020. Keep your spirits up and calm if at all possible. Love, Doris emoticon

NAS-So sorry to hear of the tragedy. emoticon

Up at 5:15 AM. Yesterday up at 6:45 AM. Someday I will get it right. emoticon

Another nice day today but looks like rain this weekend.

Cleaned and sorted another drawer in the kitchen today. All of the inside of my drawers are made of metal and easy to clean. My husband made all of them when he remodeled the kitchen. The knotty pine wood he took from the walls in the Cabin are on the front.

Started a pink mask for my daughter. The yarn is not as thick as the first one so a little harder to crochet.

Reading a book about Egypt. It is a mystery but not a cozy one. Now into aliens and Stargates. The author spelled artifacts the British spelling, artefacts. I noticed he uses "torch" near the first of the book and now uses "flashlight".

Take care,
Leona

Had a good day with allergies yesterday but this morning awoke with dizziness as ear got blocked. I hate taken the dizzy pill as I call it so I waited and took a butterscotch candy and it started to clear. Now, I am blowing and it is ok. They say allergies are going to be up today. When do they end? I am in summer clothes today as going to 70 and tomorrow 80. Have ac ready to go if gets too hot.

Dixie glad your daughter went to the doc. My gf went because she had a red mark on her leg and it was some kind of an infection. When she went there they told her she had to take off the mask she had made of cloth and put on one of theirs.. She could not understand why. I read where l5 percent even wearing mask can get the virus. So it is scary.

Today making pot roast with lentils in it and maybe some pasta. Yesterday, gave him franks.
Got my order yesterday from dil and it cost me l00 dollars. Stuff is going up. A big tomato was l.00 each. She said it was not busy when she went so maybe it is starting to slow down where the gov started to open a few things. The 25 he opens the hair cuts and a few other stuff. He is doing it in 3 week periods to see if we get more virus or deaths.

Good morning. It is going to be a nice day today with a little sunshine and warmer temps. It will be windy again today. We have some chance of showers moving in tonight. I am hoping we do get some rain overnight and tomorrow. Looks like a mixed weekend as far as weather. Rain and sun so a good one for a holiday weekend. Yesterday was a good day for being on my feet and moving. I didnít get much walking in but did keep busy all day. Hope today is as good and you all have a good day.

Well what do you all do when the message just disappears?
I wrote a fairly long one and it just went out there is space somehow.

I cannot repeat and so will only leave you today with the shortest of poetry.

Why

I know I write
for sheer delight
not mockery or moral

My time is spent
in full content
reciting verses oral.

To save a cause
or court applause
is plainly not an option,

yet fitting rhyme
into life's time
always my sweet adoption.

Doris Dix Caruso.

Have a pleasant day...We will experience heavy rains for the next two days at least...Ugg!
