Tonight will be the third class for the Swedish course I'm taking now. It's not super-challenging like the course I took in Stockholm, but it's so helpful to be around Swedish speakers for 2 hours a week...until I get back to Sweden!

Hej hej!

There is finally a Swedish class in Toronto and it started last night. There are only 6 students and we're all at different levels. It was fun though! It was nice to be in a Swedish environment for 2 hours, even though some of the learning was wayyyyy lower than my level!

My Swedish tutor sent me a Swedish radio doc about librarians (I'm a librarian) and she typed out some difficult new words in the doc for me to listen for! Very sweet.

Nice Latin motto, If you are well, I am well too.
But valeo also mean 'to deserve ' so I guess it has a double meaning!!

This article says being bilingual and actually using two languages on a regular basis keeps the brain sharp and can delay cognitive degeneration like dementia:

Hey Lovers of Language! How goes it? I'm poking away at learning Swedish. There was a film festival in town last week and I managed to see all the Swedish movies that were playing .... 2 shorts and 4 feature length. I need to read the English subtitles, but it's still practice!

I used to love coffee, now am becoming a tea drinker. Just learned that the name Sanka came from the French sans cafeine. san/ca thus Sanka. (Without caffeine). emoticon
One thing is, I can't have caffeine so whether it's coffee or tea - it's decaffeinated.

I don't like coffee at all ....but! The Swedish word "fika" is derived from the word for coffee, which is "kaffe."

Fika is kind of like coffee break, except fika means you have dessert too, and are sitting and relaxing with friends or family.

ka-ffe
fi-ka

it's inverted! Spelled differently but pronounced the same.

Mocha is the name for a coffee drink with chocolate, so the name moka was confusing to me at first.

We benefited from all the things Joe learned in Italy about food, cooking, and coffee.

Have you been to the United States?

I use milk and sugar.

Our son spent a few years working and traveling in Italy. He makes espresso every morning in his moka (sp?).
