Hi,

I belong to a book club called paperback.com. It's not just paperbacks. It's a used books sharing club. The way it works is this: You wrap one of your own books and send it. You can use either the clubs pre-printed postage or your own. In return you get a free book. Nice, eh? So if you are interested in getting any kind of book and don't mind second hand books and also don't mind free books let me know. You can use my referral code and I'll get a credit if you join ;). It's a really cool club I've been a member since 3/2009. I've stocked my bookshelves with all sorts of great books. They literally have millions of titles avaiable. If for some chance a book is not currently avalable, you can put the book on your waiting list. Easy peasy! Just let me know if you're interested and I'll start uou going.

Have a great day!

Hi all,

I know about some goood books (some I've read) for children and about children on the spectrum. Here are some names/authors
.
The following books are on a 5th grade reading and interest level. Some are for older children. Although there are some books written about autism and for teenagers too. This list is a compilation books from Amazon.com. You can find out about each book easily by googling them or finding them at Amazon. Many of the books address Asperger's. It's hard to find books written about PDD-NOS and autism, but not impossible. It seems that Asperger's in in vogue lately. Lol.

All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome - by Kathy Hoopman
Blue Bottle Mystery: An Asperger Adventure (Asperger Adventures) by Kathy Hoopmann
Loving Mr. Spock: Understanding a Lover with Asperger's Syndrome by Barbara Jacobs
The Very Ordered Existence of Merilee Marvelous by Suzanne Carlisle Crowley
Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork
Harmonic Feedback by Tara Kelly
Anything But Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin
Wild Orchid by Beverley Brenna
Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine
Livvie Owen Lived Here by Sarah Dooley
Mindblind by Jennifer Rozines Roy
The Half-life of Planets by Emily Franklin
Jay Grows an Alien by Caroline Levine
Blue Bottle Mystery: An Asperger Adventure (Asperger Adventures) by Kathy Hoopmann
Of Mice and Aliens: An Asperger Adventure (Asperger Adventures) by Kathy Hoopmann
Lisa and the Lacemaker: An Asperger Adventure by Kathy Hoopmann
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's by John Elder Robison

AUTISM for children
My Friend Has Autism (Friends With Disabilities) by Amanda Doering Tourville and Kristin Sorra
Autistic Planet by Jennifer Elder
"Rules" by Cynthia Lord (Newberry Award book)
All About My Brother by Sarah Peralta
Taking Autism to School by Andreanna Edwards

Have fun! emoticon

My daughter spends time reading chats room dialogues by people with Autism and Asperger's. She came up this morning and said although there are some things she does not relate to there are others that make her feel understood.

I have joy in my soul and joy in my step. Walk with me! Justyna

Does anyone know of some good books that a child with Autism/Aspergers or his siblings might read to help them understand the condition?

Thanks those are some great ideas. I will look for both. Like I have said, I am just starting out on my journey to educate myself and become an advocate for my son. I am glad I am getting the information and support I need to help him achieve his full potential. Thank you and if you think of any other books that would be greatly appreciated.

I can recommend A Parent's Guide to Asperger Syndrome & High Functioning Autism by Sally Ozonoff. It was the first book I bought after my son was diagnosed. It helps to identify the talents and strengths of the child.

I am trying to educate myself on autism and Asperger's. I have picked up "Ten Things Every Child with Autism Wishes You Knew" 2nd Edition by Ellen Notbohm and also "1001 Great Ideas for Teaching & Raising Children with Autism or Asperger's" by Ellen Notbohm and Veronica Zysk.

Are there any others that you would suggest that I read?
