Yes, I meditated this morning and early this afternoon, but it was hard trying to stay awake during this 2nd session. I've recently added this session to create a space before I transition into a very different part of my day.

Peace,
Karen

As I opened up the SparkPeople page the first thing that caught my eye was the sentence "Learn how and why we are free."

Then when I opened this page, the first thing I read was "Are you ready to heal yourself?"

Some days everything is filled with deep meaning!

We rock!

First formal meditation (Chopra #1) last night, followed by formal sitting this morning. Lots of monkey mind this morning as renovation questions remain unanswered - maybe need to offer up as intentions?

Wow! It's so great to see all the meditation going on here!

I'm on my fourth night of insomnia right now so I'm about to sign off, take a melatonin pill and do a guided relaxation session. Hope it works!

Today I took a walk and sat down in my usual place, but made the effort to do 20 minutes instead of 10. And it was really great! I still feel more balanced.
I am also reading a book about insight meditation, and I find it a helpful reminder to my practice to be reading something about like that. Keeps various concepts in my mind.

Linda, we're glad to have you among us and look forward to your posts. Working together helps us all.

KALI, sanity in construction? You've GOT to be kidding? Right?
I didn't think of yesterday's meditation as "giving it up," but as "letting serenity replace" (whatever). In reality, I do believe those are the same idea coming from different directions.

Jazzy, glad you had a "melt down."!

Today was Yoga meditation day. Really stretched body, mind and soul.

I'm very new to this meditation also and have found it a great resource to help me get throu those stressful moments when the bottome seems to have fallen out from under my feet. I am so glad I have found this group as it helps me stay more focused on my health physically and mentally.

After saying i wasnt going to meditate last night for fear of falling asleep and not getting the benefit from it, what do i do, meditate . I focused my energy on body parts that were "hurting' and the pain melted away as I ended meditating and consciously slipped into a quiet sleep.

Very cool Lucille - I think your focused meditation might equate to giving your problems up to (whatever you perceive the higher power to be).

I was pleased to complete a formal meditation this morning - less monkey mind and looking forward to starting an evening session.

I had a string of what appeared to be negatives accost me today. Instead of trying to combat them, I went to the patio and did 20 minutes of focused breathing, focusing on letting go... Later, much calmed down, I was able to determine viable solutions.

This was interesting; I usually do not focus on "problems" or "issues" but today I did. I now understand better what many of you have been writing ~ that meditation helps you as you "want to" or try to sleep, relax, etc.

I am grateful for the experience, especially the insight.

Glad you're having a good time, KaliGirl! Hope you get to bed on time tonight....

I have been full of energy the last several days and have been getting a lot done but I've also been having trouble getting to sleep at night because of racing thoughts. As I prepared to meditate this morning I noticed again that I often am drawn to meditate when I'm having negative emotions because it helps me get perspective, but when I'm feeling positive, I have more resistance towards meditating. This was the case this morning. So in light of all my energy and bright outlook, I decided to do a chakra mediation/visualization while out walking. It helped me become aware of my physical and mental energies and allowed me to "play" with them and become familiar with the way they affect my experience of sensation.

Taking a break @ a marvelous green schools conference, but reading posts feel like I've been away forever.

Sounds like everyone is doing what they can when they can (Evelyn - glad you're feeling better off the meds).

I missed another session, instead staying up late to read and then staying in bed late as registration opened @ 8:30.

A sideways step as the conference is filling much of my earth mother needs.

emoticon I was surprised once again this morning by how much better I feel now that I'm not taking allergy medication. I was judging myself for being slow lately and not getting much done. Now I realize that it was just a side effect of the medicine and not "me". Next time I'm ill, I wonder if I can just accept the slowness and not judge myself.

Lucille - you are so right about being blessed & recognizing those 'triggers' which help us settle into reflective states of mind.

Jazzy - so good of you to spread the good news

Let's remember how blessed we are that our meditations are for, and benefit, ALL sentient beings throughout the cosmos, not just ourselves.

My day was a mindful day which I equate with being in a medatative mode most of the time.

On my refrigerator door are two sets of magnetic words to make poetry; one is a set of yoga-ish words, the other set's words are skewed to vibrant poetry. I am happily surprised how often they call me to be reflective and try to compose something meaningful from the words not yet used. (Admitedly, I sometimes I take a word from an already formed poem/statement, but then I have to revise it.)

Like thinking with a Haiku composing mind, creating meaning from a few pre-determined words puts me into a reflective mode. As I typed this, it dawned on me I could try Haiku with the words as well as other statements.

Now I probably won't get anything else done tomorrow...

I did a walking meditation this morning. As I walked through the beautiful and decaying Garden District of New Orleans I became aware that my body would become tense when I looked around me seeing only things that needed repair. I then tried to just let things be the way they were at that moment. It was a relief not to have to fix everything!

Ahhh ok I love a nice big country kitchen where I can actually cook and create, Some of the kitchens are barely big enough for a body forget about the dishes and appliances.

I did a self guided meditationlast night as I walked the beach listening to the serf.

I'm confused. There are two threads/topics about daily meditation ~ what's a meditating person to do? Where is the best place to share insights and gain inspiration? Since i don't know, I'm putting the same message on both threads.

I did my usual guided meditation indoors near my CD player. It's subject matter is about eating, restraint, healthy habits. Today I was able to do another meditation outdoors, enjoying the lap of Mother Nature. I used no subject for this one, just breathing and being.

I think the non-subject meditations are 'deeper' for me than guided or topic meditations....

I kept as mindful as I could while outside doing heavy-duty yard work. I also had several meditation sessions as I took breaks. Together, the two
disciplines kept me from feeling too tired. I was able to focus on the task at hand and the beauty of the day. The meditation times helped keep my heart rate and breathing focused and on track, too.

mindfulness matters

Yes, I was doing my guided meditation but the doorbell rang 20 minutes into the disk. I didn't have any immediate 'afterglow,' but I was mindful and alert during the meditation and I know it "took."

I also spent time outdoors, in mindfulness more than in meditation. However, they are so intertwined sometimes it is difficult for me to discern one from the other.

Thanks for the reminder that things 'just are'.
I let judgment enter into my thoughts far too often.

Loved the monkey mind image too - gave mine something to 'think' about.

No formal meditation this morning, but a good night's sleep! YES!

Monkey mind on crack? What a vibrant vision that gives me; I'm chuckling, too. Thanks for the bit of comic relief. Meditation 'turns up / turns on" strange responses sometimes.... Glad you didn't let it deter you, evidently your mind/brain/body needed the release!

Let's remember that emotions / feelings are neither good nor bad ~ they just "are." Therefore, really, no guilt or shame can be attached to them... though they maybe could be attached to how one reacts to the feelings.

Water yoga was good. I was really centered on my movements and stretches today. Felt both energized and calm afterward.

My current guided meditation is 26 minutes long. It's interesting to me that my mind focuses differently each day. One day it's one section with its thought, another day another section/thought.

Namaste
