I was doing very well... now it seems to be climbing. I think I know one or two changes that are causing that (example -- 9% of a day's allotment in commercially made flour tortillas! -- and, thinking it would decrease fats, I started allowing a different form of sweet treat that is actually more addictive to me than chocolate and appears to have a load of sodium in it. So... back to the challenge

Didn't think I could do it, what with a Dunkin Donuts bagel for breakfast and Ramen for lunch, but I did. My mom found lower sodium Ramen (660 mg instead of 1171 mg). How awesome is that?

I really have to work on this one. I started tracking my sodium 3 days ago and have been 1,000 to 1,500 over everyday so far. Any suggestions???

I´ve been doing this for many years. If I eat too much salt, I bloat overnight and feel awful. So, I try hard to keep it low. It is esp. challenging when we eat out in the evening. Restaurant food is notoriously high in sodium! Anyway, I will take a better look at how I´m doing. Thx Shan!

yes, we all need enough sodium and not too much. Thankfully, our kidneys and our hormone systems keep the blood sodium in balance over a range of sodium intakes. Low sodium in the blood is NOT likely to occur on a low sodium diet unless something else is out of balance.

Evasager - track your sodium you might be surprised at how much sodium you actually are getting. I don't use salt but there are days where my sodium is through the roof with the combination of foods i eat.

Also make sure your sodium isn't too low my father-in-law just went into the hospital when they finally figured out what was wrong with him it was his sodium was low

So, tomorrow I will be watching my sodium. Concerned about the diet meals though because I eat them quite a lot. They're easy to calculate.

10lbs lost - Fitbit
20lbs lost - Zumba wear
30lbs lost - 2 New Outfits

*The only bad workout is the one that didn't happen.

I've been tracking my sodium for months. Lowering that has made the biggest difference of all my nutritional changes. I'm in.

Challenge 06/23/09: emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy Tuesday to you!

Sodium. It seems to be in everything that we buy. It is even in foods such as cookies, soda, and breads.

Your challenge today is to KEEP YOUR SODIUM IN CHECK & READ LABELS! Try to keep your sodium under 2400 (lower than that is preferred). Watch out for these foods as they have lots of salt in them:

*Diet meals
*Soup
*Soy Sauce
*Salsa
*Snack foods (crackers, chips, cookies)

Remember: READ LABELS!

Also, instead of using salt while you are cooking, try some other ways to flavor your foods:

*Fresh or dried herbs
*Lemon or lime juice
*Cooking wine
*Fruit juices
*Low sodium broth

Have a READING MY LABELS Tuesday!
