Hi girls! Hope everyone is getting a great start to their weekend. Daniel spent the night with 'gurl' both Wednesday and Thursday. She said she wanted to get him prepared for when we go on our trip in March. Do you know that boy did not poop at all those two days? I know that's TMI, but then he comes home, wakes up twice during the night and does his business. LOL...I sure wish this boy would get back on a regular schedule.
Monica, I am unsure of the where or even the when of our party right now. I usually have our party the first Thursday in July since hubby is off work and he does the majority of the food(smoked meat). This time, though, that falls on the 4th of July. A lot of our kids go away for the 4th on vacation, so I am seriously debating on whether to have a Christmas in July, except in June....or maybe I can schedule it later?? I don't know. Too much later will fall into my in-services. I know the kids wouldn't care either way. Hubby really enjoys helping and the kids all love him, so I want him to be able to enjoy, whether he is on vacation or possibly have to take a vacation day? We will see.
As far as the venue. I am so torn. I guess it will all depend on how much money we raise. Both have pros and cons. I need guidance...lol
Option number one is at a state park about 8 miles north of me. It is an assembly hall within the park, so it is pretty private and has the rustic appeal with a fireplace. It is the smaller of the two venues, but has plenty of room for our activities. I believe the price is $300, and we cannot get in to decorate until 8am the morning of the party. Since it is 8 miles north of my town, and most of our parents live the other direction, it is about ten miles farther for most of our parents.
Option 2 has more open space(which also means more space to fill and decorate), but also can mean more open space for our wheelchair and walker students. It is only about 2 and 1/2 blocks from me and closer for most of our students. The price is only $50 because we get it through one of the church members whose child is a VIP. It doesn't have a fireplace, but both places have a stage. Decisions, decisions, decisions.???
I would really like to use the venue at Cedar Forest Park because the fireplace and overall look feels more like our Old Fashioned theme. I guess I will see how much we raise, then get feedback from other staff and parents and go from there. I began my gofundme page Jan. 2, and we have $275 so far. We are almost one-tenth to goal, which I think is amazing. I will also be having yard sales, but some of my yard sale profits this year may be split between Christmas in July and my nephew's final expenses.
I hope you enjoy basketball today. It will be a good way to burn off the winter blues and seeing the improvements in the girls' performances.
Talk about overcast...oh my....it's supposed to rain all day today, mixed with sleet and freezing rain. I was hoping to get to the building,(I still may) but it has rained so much lately, that it's pretty messy in the garden spot. Maybe I can get out there before the heavier rain sets in. Oh for the beautiful turquoise sky we had Thursday. Last week, we broke a record with a high of 71, then it dropped down to 30s the following day. Miserable.
Not much else going on. Zelda Louise is getting spayed this coming Tuesday. Melissa will get Caleb since I have to be there shortly after my route. I will get Daniel from her while she has a dental cleaning, then she will take Caleb while I have my dental work done. Glad we work together and do what needs to be done for the day. Finally getting an old filling removed and the tooth crowned. I am getting self conscious of it since it shows when I smile and looks gray from the silver filling. Hope it doesn't break the bank.
Y'all have a great weekend!
Deb
