That's a magnificent result on your first outing Deb!! I'm sure as you fine tune, it will get even better :)

Soooo - waiting for the April cafe

Did you have any April Fools Day pranks in your day?

I saw a suggestion to cover grapes with coloured tinfoil so they look like chocolate eggs and put them in your kid's lunch. I have no kids for whom I prepare lunch, it looked like a funny prank

Hi girls! Wow! Milking sounds like quite the job, but yes, better for a machine to take the brunt than a human. Sounds like a determined young lady that got the job done!

We are tired!! lol....We were so busy today. Hubby and a buddy got up about 4:30, then left a little after 5. Daniel and I didn't leave until about 7...I was planning on leaving earlier, but he was up bright and early, hollering, "Mama, go! Daddy, cook." until I finally gave in....we stopped by Walmart along the way, then as we were checking out, hubby called in a panic, asking me to pick up a bag of ice and another cooler. We haven't sat down and figured out profits yet just for food, drinks, ice, chips, etc...(without adding the larger items that we can continue to reuse), but we sold out of hot dogs, both the regular dogs and the 1/4 lb. I had to walk across the street to the Dollar Store twice to pick up more buns....we were thrilled with the outcome. I didn't realize till we were leaving from there that I had not eaten yet....On the way home, I got a call from a Joy Center parent that they had yard sale left overs for me. It was originally supposed to storm early, but it held off to come later. I wanted to get it before the storms, so I went and loaded the car down. It is amazing how much I can fit into a little Honda Civic!! lol It will stay in there till morning....And I mean it is packed...Daniel cannot even ride with me yet because all seats but the driver's is full. I was running on adrenaline until after I ate a BBQ sandwich just a few minutes ago and sat down.

Everything worked out perfect from the rain holding off, beginning to sprinkle right as we were leaving. The wind was whipping, though, but thankfully the tent held up...I kept going back to get more buns because I wanted to sell out of hot dogs and not have to bring them home. It was a wonderful experience. We're already seeing little things we can do to make it run a little more efficient next time with our set up, what to use, etc....We are thrilled with it!

Not much else happening. I think it will be an early night for us....Y'all enjoy!

Deb

Hi Team

Monica, yay for March Madness, and double yay for the arrival of spring.

Deb, I'm glad Daniel had a good dentist visit. Hope your hot dog cart sales go well. Let us know.

We are enjoying on-going spring sunny weather, except for one rainy and very cold Tuesday morning. Today I did some gardening after helping Silvia in the barn. She had a spark plug of a first-time milked cow kicking like crazy, Silvia was afraid the robot would get busted. Luckily it wasn't, the milking arm was retracted and the stall sides got the impacts, but no damage. The robot is supposed to better in general than a human in those situations, because it just logically does it's job and doesn't react to the cow. A human would get upset, maybe give the cow a slap to punish it, maybe be afraid to try to re-attach the milking machine. The robot slowly and repeatedly does it's programmed routine of trying to attach the machine. Unless it is commanded to stop by the human. This morning the cow began to kick after it had already been milked, so the arm was already retracted.

Hi girls! Hope you're all well. We are getting ready for the mile long...actually about 30 mile long yard sale in Watertown. It will be our first run with the hot dog cart. I have told hubby he should just do hot dogs this run and keep it simple, but he has added BBQ sandwiches. So we have regular beef hot dogs, 1/4 beef hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches, plus the condiments, pickles, jalapenos, relish, diced onion, and grilled onion and peppers. I hope we do well, but it is supposed to rain and storm tomorrow. Hubby asked me the other day if he should still set up...I said, of course, that it will be good practice for one, and it's a 100% chance that you lose your $100 site fee if you don't at least try. lol...

So, this week is this event, next week is a Joy Center yard sale...not Christmas in July sale...that will be later and smaller since we are so close to goal. We are planning for our ten year opening anniversary to take the kids to Disney World, so we are beginning early on fundraising. That isn't until 2022, but we figured it would take that long to raise the money..lol

Not much else happening....I am getting tired and ready for bed.

Y'all be good...will update tomorrow.

Deb

Hi Team,

Deb, great news about the Christmas in July fund. Heartwarming to know how much support you have from the community. Sorry to learn that Daniel has an ear infection -- this guy just cannot catch a break from colds, earaches, and such. Glad he had a great report from the dentist.

I thoroughly enjoyed following all the basketball last weekend. I enjoy watching the games and seeing the players and coaches give it their all.

Spring weather has arrived in Iowa! Yesterday was in the mid 50s (Fahrenheit) and everyone was walking around campus in the afternoon without a jacket and smiling. Today will be in the mid 60s. Hurray! Next we can look for the grass to turn green. I guess the best part about winter weather is that is sets you up to appreciate the spring season.

Make it a great day.

Well, girls, I am going to make this as short and sweet as possible since the past three times I have typed my book, it gives me a pop up after a few minutes "Aw, Snap." message.

Ok, glad y'all are enjoying spring!! Monica, I got so tickled reading your post about watching basketball and how much you enjoy it. It is a great weekend for basketball fans. The day before I read your post, I had turned it to the news...I looked over at hubby and said, "Uggh...basketball...when is this over?" lol...You know as much as I love the sport, I detest watching it on TV. Enjoy!

Bad news...Daniel had another ear infection...Good news is now I know. AND he went to the dentist today and got a great report...first good report at cleanings that we have had in years. Usually I am seeing dollar signs again thinking another filling, root canal, oral surgery? This time, all is well. I kept looking at the dentist thinking he was saying that in front of Daniel and was going to privately talk to me, but he looked up and said, "No, mom, seriously, everything looks great!" :)

Ok, I am on cloud nine...In the past few days, we have had one $300 donation, one $20, one $40, one $100, and then today I noticed we had a $300 donation. I thought I was either looking at the first one and maybe it had duplicated it or it was the page from a previous year's fund. My former boss from my Sonic Days had anonymously donated it. (it shows on page as anonymous, but I am sent info through private email from gofundme.) This means we now have enough for all VIP gifts. I always set our goal at $3000, $2500 goes toward gifts, the remaining 500 goes toward food, decorations, venue, party supplies, etc. It's always nice when we get extra, but my main goal is just to get the kids' gifts taken care of, and I can always throw a yard sale together for the rest and I don't really stress once the gifts are done. This is such a blessing! I am so humbled and thankful! I have had people stop me in Walmart to ask how our fund is going and telling me how much they enjoying seeing our photos of the kids when we do a highlight. My neighbor also came over with a detailed list of donated items she has that will leave us about $150 extra since we can use those items for various VIPs then deduct that from amount given out to equal $100. What a day!

Not much else happening. So very blessed and grateful.

Hope y'all have a great week...I'm trying to type fast in case this tries to boot me off. lol...I hope it makes sense.

Deb

Hi Team,

June, that is my kind of day, when you can stay home and not have to drive anywhere. Deb, glad Daniel is better and you had an easier Friday to end the work week.

We had a nice spring day. The garden beds have dried out enough so we planted some seeds outside: lettuce, peas, and carrots. It was great to be outdoors for a few hours and soak up the sunshine. I have been keeping up with the college basketball tournaments. We do not have cable TV and I have enjoyed catching games that are streamed or watching the highlights from games that concluded. This is the best weekend of the year for a basketball fan!

Make it a great evening!

Hi Team

It was a wonderful day today, I stayed home, didn't have to drive anywhere, its was a warm and sunny day, I got a lot of housework done in the morning, went for a walk through the fields and by the river after lunch with all the dogs (Oliie is visiting again). I am doing well right now with getting enough sleep, pre-planning and mostly following through my menu, workouts and to-do list. Life is good.

How is your weekend going? That's great the probiotics are working for Daniel. Hope you are rested up now Deb, vacation plus a full work week will take a round out of you!!

Hey girls! Ah....it's Friday. Not sure why I'm tired, but I am. I have been sleeping better lately, and Daniel's digestive track seems to be getting back to normal after a couple months of probiotics.

We had an early afternoon on the bus because we were missing half of our children, two of which were wheelchair students and one who lives out in the country a bit. The few extra minutes really made a difference because I was able to run to the tanning bed, get home before 4, and be done for the night since supper was already in the oven to stay warm. Love those days!

Not planning anything for this weekend other than sleeping in. lol...we will see. Hubby and I also have to run to Sams Club at some point this weekend or next week to prep for the Mile Long Yard Sale Event.

June, I am amazed, too, at how the trees can look so bare, then almost overnight, they seem to have popped. 'Skeletal'...yes, that's a good description. I have noticed that ours are looking fuller even though you can't see all the buds yet...this is when there are a cluster of trees. Funny that we also notice more branches that scrape the windows on the bus now after spring break that weren't touching before, so I guess they are growing some and there is hope for spring eventually.

Hope y'all enjoy your weekend.

Deb

Hi Team

I had a crazy busy week, but busy is good, I always say, so long as it is not disaster control busy :). Glad you had a good holiday Deb. Red leaf banana trees, that will be a nice variation, but I am a bit amused that it was banana and not another kind of tree or ornamental shrub that your DH wanted. Monica, that is disappointing about the winter kill this year. We literally had freezing weather last week and since last Wednesday, it was in the 20s, which would be the 70s Fahrenheit. Our trees have not a single leaf, they look so skeletal. By next week, I bet they will be showing and by the week after, fully out. It is amazing how the landscape changes when the spring shift kicks in.

Life is good, make it a great end of the week, drink your water and y'all be good !!

Hi Team,

Wow, more banana plants! The red leaf kind will add a nice color. I bet you will enjoy them. Glad you are back and slid right into the routine. So nice when the kids get to know you and get more comfortable being themselves.

Make it a great night!

Hi girls! Monica, I'm sorry about your plants. I know how excited you get when you begin your indoor gardening and prepping for outdoor planting. Did I tell y'all what hubby bought while at the beach? Banana trees...I guess the 100 plus we have now is not enough. lol...Actually, we did lose some one year, then we gave several away...But these are 'red leaf' banana trees. They are ornamental and will never bear fruit. Of course when ours do bear fruit, it does not stay warm long enough to ripen enough to be edible.

We have had a smooth transition back to work. Hubby was off the following day because we had originally planned on taking a rental car. He was going to return the day after we got back so we wouldn't be rushed, but we ended up going in my car. I would have liked to save the miles on mine, but in the end, I thought I would be a nervous wreck driving a rental, worried about dings or scratches that could happen regardless, especially on the beach with lots of spring breakers.

My kids on the bus were so funny the other day. I just love my jobs! One of my older students(Jr. High age, starting high school next year) has really come out of his shell lately. It has been so fun seeing a bit of his personality shine through. He would say, "Hey Mrs. Debbie, " in a normal voice, then in a deeper disguised voice, he'd say, "I'm speaking Spanish." Each time he would talk normally, then do the same thing in a deeper voice. I'm not sure if he really thought he was speaking Spanish just because he changed the tone of his voice or not, but it was cute. This continued on for quite a while that day and again today.

Not much else happening here. Life is good here! It is full blown allergy season here in my area with all the blooms, but it sure is beginning to look a lot like spring. Purple and yellow wildflowers, redbuds, bradford pear, and a few other trees that I have no clue as to what they are are blooming...some are already fully green, but others have barely started...It is splotchy. Hubby will have to mow the yard now before we get a notice from the city. lol....It is the first mow of the season...again, it is splotchy, but wild onions grow in unsightly large patches that get high quickly. We noticed that as soon as we got back from Alabama.

Y'all be good. Next weekend is hubby and my first official hot dog cart event. Whisper a prayer for us.

Deb

Hi Team,

Checking in to share an update on our garden. After I uncovered the vegetables, I thought the situation looked grim. There were a few spinach plants and lettuce plants that showed signs of life but otherwise all the plants looked dead. When I reported that to DH he said that the plants would come back and that his experience was similar with strawberry plants -- they always look terrible when you first pull back the mulch. So yesterday I go check on the plants since it has been about three days and I find no changes. I mention that to DH and he says, "oh yeah, about that..." He had gone out to inspect the plants, too, and he thinks they died. Oh well! I guess the -25 degrees F temperatures we had in January did them in. Probably no amount of straw mulch or snow cover could make up for that. I will definitely try this again next winter.

Make it a great day!

Hi Team,

Deb, I am enjoying the vacation reports. That is cute that your hubby reports back that you are making him walk too much. Sounds like you are fitting in all your favorites: walks, riding around to different stores, and exploring the area. Have you used your ponchos-in-a-ball yet?

June, it sounds to me like your approach with your brother is more than reasonable. There has to be a threshold for what is serious enough to be labeled an emergency.

I like the four seasons, too. We do have some piles of snow in places where it drifted high in that last blizzard we had at the end of February. I am going out to prune a few things today as well. I uncovered our bed of overwintered veggies (lettuce, spinach, kale, and swiss chard). It is time to let them see the sunshine and come back, if they can. I am curious about the outcome.

Our indoor seedling starts are doing well. The eggplant and broccoli seeds have not germinated yet. Those can be difficult to germinate and if they do not start, I will not worry about them. Everything else is up and growing under a light.

Another sign of spring here is that softball pre-season has started. The director of the youth program opens up the school gym for a few hours on Saturdays for the girls to come and practice their skills. I went along with youngest DD to help run the stations. Lots of fun working with the girls who love the game and want to try their best at every drill.

Make it a great day!

Ahh....freshly hung laundry on the clothesline...or maybe not. lol....manure is not the smell that comes to mind when I think of hanging clothes on the line.

Concerning the guy from my town, yeah, it looks like he resorted to a bit of bribery...lol...They do have good strawberries, though. :) If they have fresh strawberries in March, I would say they're from a green house. They're usually not ready till the end of April/ first of May. The Wilson County Fair has grown so much! I don't really realize how convenient our town is until I see it from a different perspective. People come from all over the world to see Nashville...country music stars choose surrounding counties as mine to live to get away from the hustle and bustle of Nashville, but within a thirty minute drive to go to downtown. Of course, I would love to live down here at the coast because of the USUALLY warmer climate, but to those who live farther north, Tennessee weather may seem mild, especially the winters. Those like my former neighbor from Wisconsin loved it, saying she loved the winters here...If it did snow, it is usually gone within a few days. She was a little less tolerant of the summers being too humid, but said it was worth it for the mild winters. We have all four seasons, which I have to admit, I would miss if I lived down here.

It has been a cold day here on the gulf. I think the high was 70, but that was at midnight. By the time I woke up, drank my coffee and went for my walk, it was right at 50, but with a fine mist of cold rain and a breeze. I still walked for about 40 minutes. The sand definitely will give you a workout. Hubby and I rode around quite a bit today, going to thrift stores, Home Depot, souvinier shops, and then to the park this evening. He actually walked with me quite a bit on a pier trail that goes around the park. He walked longer than three minutes this time, but not as long as I would have liked. My walking buddies and I would have had a ball walking on the different pier trails going around the park, across to the ocean, then all over marsh lands, inlets and ponds. He was talking to his buddy(the one staying at the house watching Zelda Louise) and I overheard him say, "Yeah, man, Deb has about walked me to death." lol...

June, your brother's situation sounds like so many I have heard. I know we all struggle from time to time, but it does seem like as you get older, you should learn to manage money a bit better. I don't blame you at all for not bailing him out. I have a good friend who always managed to get herself into similar situations....Same old story every single time. Good person, great friend, but just not well with money.

I think our next 5 K is in May. It is the Jordan Hackett walk, which is in memory of a baby who passed with a heart condition. The proceeds go to help other families in similar situations. It is the one in the town where I went to high school and goes by the dam where my dad worked. It is one of my favorite walks because the scenery is changing constantly.

I'm gonna post more photos tomorrow.

Hope y'all have a great day!!

Hi Team

Your vacation Deb, so fun and amazing, so glad you could get away and enjoy time and new sights with your DH !! I looked up Kason Lester's American Idol youtube audition. I'm glad he got the golden ticket to LA, and am looking forward to seeing what is next for him. He brought strawberries for the judges!! Strawberries in March? I think he said his family has a green house strawberry business. And while I was looking things up, I looked up Lebanon, Tennessee and found out among other things that it hosts the annual Wilson County Fair, considered to be the best county fair in Tennessee. Sounds like a great place to live, close to Nashville, so all the opportunities of small town living and big town events if you want. That's how I feel about where we live, country living, but close enough to Vancouver to go to metropolitan cultural or sports events if we want to.

Today I was going to do major laundry, I asked DH if he was spreading manure as it is very nice out, he said no. THEN, the neighbour did spread manure, so I won't be hanging the laundry outside to dry today.

Dear bro is in his usual tangle of spending money, needing money for emergencies/events that come up, he has no vehicle right now because he got in a fender bender and was declared partly responsible so had to pay the deductible to get his vehicle fixed, he firmly believes it was all the other guy's fault, the insurance company is the law, so he can't pick up his vehicle from the body shop until he pays the deductible ($300) and as usual, he spent all his pension money within a week of receiving it, so now will have to wait until his next pension check which means he will have to pay storage on his vehicle plus towing charge to get his vehicle from the body shop to the vehicle storage lot PLUS he still has to pay the deductible as well. I have repeatedly suggested he save a bit of his pension check every month so he has an 'unexpected events fund'. Lack of planning on his part is not an emergency on my part, he thinks if he conjures up an emergency setting, I will lend or give him money, I think he needs to suffer the inconvenience and cost that are the consequences of his lack of planning, he thinks I am not compassionate, I think, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, these situations are an all-to-regular occurrence, I did in the past bail him out, no more.

This weekend I am doing some housework and gardening (one more apple tree to prune, we still have some snow drifts piles that haven't melted yet, but I think this is the last possible pruning opportunity), and on Sunday I am planning a super Sunday of running, biking, swimming plus Sunday night I am going with dear bro and my sister to watch his daughter's soccer game.

Hi girls! Hope you're all well. Well, we made it to Orange Beach yesterday evening, and we have really enjoyed our first full day here. It is chilly, especially for the beach, but the scenery is beautiful, and we have really enjoyed seeing so many things from trees to sea life to different foods.

I just love the moss draped trees and the huge trees sprawled out in every direction. Almost everything is bright and already bloomed from about mid way in Alabama on down, but there are fields of trees that are totally bare in yards and open land area. I am curious as to what type they are. It is so odd because everything else is so pretty and bright, then you have yards and acres of all these same type trees that don't even seem to be beginning to bloom. We also noticed lots of bushes with bright pink flower blooms that seem to be all over the place. They may be something that are in Tennessee, too, but they aren't used as much as down here.

I have enjoyed an evening walk yesterday...about 45 minutes, then another this morning about 45 minutes and this evening about 40 minutes. Hubby came with me the first day, walked across the small pier, then after a bit, he said, "Honey, I think I'm gonna go back to the room...my feet are killing me." I said, "Ok, but you know you've only been walking three minutes." lol

We saw several blue balloon looking things with stringy things attached. I had no idea what they were until I googled it, then later saw a warning posted that Orange Beach had dangerous marine life onshore. They're Portuguese Man of War, and they say they're pretty painful if stung. I will be wearing shoes.

The most unique food item that is here that I have not seen in my area is a wrapped ice cream ball. I forget what they were called, but they are round, a little larger than a golf ball, with ice cream inside and some type of dough wrapped around it. They came in all different flavors, too.

There is also a state park across from the hotel about a mile down the road with lots of walking trails and piers going over to the ocean. Hubby was intrigued by the fishing, and I was curious about the trails. We went to a local grocery store and packed a cooler. I think we will go to the park tomorrow and have a picnic.

A couple other things on our agenda before we go home is to go to Lambert's Cafe, home of the 'throwed rolls.' Hubby also wants to stop at a nursery and pick up a couple red leafed banana trees. We saw them today, but didn't want to leave them in our car for another few days, so we are planning on going through there on the way home and picking them up.

I have always wanted to visit Fairhope, Ala...It is a quaint little town on the bay about 40 minutes from where we are staying. We went today after leaving Foley, and they were having some sort of festival. It reminded me of Seaside, Fl. in the way it had food vendors and stuff everywhere. It was interested to see, but I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see the town in its every day feel. Roads were closed off and parking was too expensive for me to want to pay without knowing how long we would stay. If we had planned a day there, I would liked to have done it, but not just to check it out, having other things to do.

Not much happening right now. I have had my walks today, we have saw lots of interesting thing, and now I have showered and washed my hair, shaved my legs....haha...just kidding...it's not warm enough for that yet. lol We have sat on the balcony and I have drank my decaf, so now I am just winding down.

Life is good!

Deb

What a great idea for race swag. I bet the extra length in the arms will come in handy when it is chilly. You can tuck your hands into the sleeves until you warm up on your walk.

Monica, I can just picture your girls packing their work with them, then y'all picking a place to eat on campus and enjoying the day. That will be a highlight, for sure.

I meant to mention the race shirts. Usually when we do these runs/races, we get a shirt as part of the registration fee. This year, everyone who registered before a certain deadline got these type shirts instead. They were just listed as a quarter zip pullover. We all really like them, although they run big.....lol...When my sleeves were pulled down, the just dangled about a hand length over. .They are definitely not a 'jacket' they're very lightweight, but perfect for spring, fall and early morning, late evening, or just before a rain in the summer. These were a pretty nice change from the tee shirts that Daniel usually ends up taking over. Also, I guess it should have been common sense, but I never noticed the bibs were color coordinated according to the distance you chose. Margaret and I did the 10 K, the others did the 5. Alicia and Jessey also participated.

yay for spring gardens. I haven't even put thought into ours yet. I might consider it after I finish my cleaning. lol

Hi Team,

Once June mentioned the race shirts, I went back and took a closer look. I thought Deb's crew had worn the same color. We need details, Deb!

June, how nice that Eric was able to troubleshoot the issue for you. We use WiFi so much now, that one can become lost without it. We lost our service a few weeks ago after a winter/ice storm. It was out for five days. We were thankful it was the internet service and not our power.

We started seedlings yesterday! Kale, lettuce, chard, broccoli, and eggplant. We will start spinach today. I like to soak the spinach seeds in water for one day before planting. It is supposed to help with germination, since spinach has tough seeds. I have dates marked on the calendar for when each vegetable should be started indoors. No telling which plants will thrive as indoor starts and which will fail. We are going to enjoy the process.

Spring break for us is next week. This week we add a jazz concert and teacher conferences to the schedule. Then a week without any activities or school for the girls. They are each going to come to work with me one day during their break. They bring their own "work" to do and we go out for lunch. There are several places within walking distance of campus.

Make it great day!

Good morning, y'all. Love the highlights! I always say, regardless of what's going on, I like to end on a high note. Even better when it is shared with others, especially those who appreciate the little things and things that aren't always material things.

I have slacked on my cleaning...I still have Daniel's room and another cabinet to go in the kitchen. I decided to work on laundry last night instead. I am proud of how my cabinets and some drawers look now.

Today is supposed to be a warm and pretty day after yesterday's storms. We had a tornado warning for our county, but it was for the other end of it. I dont think it ever touched down.

Well, I am loving the time change. I am a little sleepy this morning, but excited about the extra hour at night. I am planning on walking today. My goals were met this week...I just have to finish posting them.

Y"all be good.

Highlights:

We had a great walk and fellowship yesterday.

I had a good, hard nap afterwards with thunder and heavy rain in the back ground. Daniel was in his room with no complaints.

Life is good.

Way to go, Deb !! You and Margaret rock. I like your race shirts, they look like pullover light jackets or are they long-sleeve shirts? Only you ( or someone who works events ) could find 4 large containers of mustard while cupboard cleaning lol. Your junk drawer description is classic and spot-on, I bet for almost everybody's junk drawer. An emotional sick stomach, full of motion and emotion, that is a pretty interesting way to put it. I missed the American Idol episode on Wednesday night, good to know I can go to YouTube to see it and great news that the local singer moved on to compete in the next round !!

Monica, it is so nice when team mates are a good fit. And nice to have a pause in the activities for the kids.

Spring break is coming up for the grade schools. Eric has a mid-term break March 1-10, so he and Molly were here last weekend and we spent a few nice days together, then they picked up Ollie and went to Seattle for the week. Today they are back with Ollie and Eric is going back to Montreal on Monday.

My highlights for today

#1 Eric and Molly are visiting today and tomorrow

#2 Eric improved our WiFi by replacing the router, yay, no more dropped internet connections. I didn't know routers could wear out, I thought it was my laptop that was getting quirky.

Hi Team,

Great job on your 10K, Deb! Looks like you had a good crew out for it.

Not a lot happening here. We have that rare weekend where we are between sports seasons and there are no music events either. It's been a cold, rainy day. I made a pot of chicken noodle soup for lunch.

Make it a great weekend!

Hey ladies! We all completed our races. Margaret and I finished the 10 K in 1:37. Yes, I know we're not breaking any world records, but our goal is close to a 15 minute mile since we do not jog. I guess with the extra ".2" or whatever the extra portion of a mile is on a 10 K, then that is not too far off. We were not last this time. So glad it was not a 15 K. I could not have imagined walking 3 more miles.

Not much else happening. We were concerned with the weather as they announced lightening would cancel. It did rain, but thankfully the lightening held off till afternoon after we all got home. I took advantage of Daniel being in his room, hubby and Zelda outside....I got nice and warm, listened to the storms and had a great hard nap.

Life is good.

Hi girls! Well, I have recorded and watched every bit of American Idol because the write up said our hometown guy would be on tonight...NO! He was on Sunday night. I had to youtube it. Oh well, I saw a few heartwarming stories on the show who made it to Hollywood. Our guy does move on!

Several kids at Joy Center today came in telling horror stories of 'the virus.' Another brought ginger ale and went to another room and laid down. Wilson County Schools closed again for tomorrow and Friday, but city schools are staying open.

Life is good here...kids on the bus know spring break is coming, and they are showing out. For some reason, they think when Ellie is off the bus to let our lift down, and I walk to the back to unstrap our wheelchair student, that we are blind and deaf to what they're doing. To put it mildly, I am ready for our break. emoticon emoticon

Not much else happening. It is still cold here. That is something else I am glad will hopefully be ending soon! Cold weather! It's supposed to warm up by the weekend, but more storms and rain.

Congrats on completing your material, Monica, and also for having a great helper. It makes all the difference in the world.

My highlights:

I finished cleaning out half of my dining cabinets. These were the worst because the other side mainly has larger items not used much, not many cans, so it shouldn't take as long. We had 4 large containers of mustard, never used! I had one can with a 2017 expiration date! Not sure how that slipped by the last cleaning. Yesterday, I cleaned the kitchen drawers out. They were mainly just full of old mail, cards, receipts, batteries, and serving utensils...nothing bad, but junk. After I finish the dining and laundry, I will tackle Daniel's dresser drawers. Again, a lot of old paperwork in a couple drawers of things we just didn't want to throw away...It is also a catch all for when we clean in a hurry, I'm sure things have been thrown in there with intentions of going through later, and it doesn't happen.

Cute thing today I was sharing with hubby. We have one young lady at Joy Center who is fairly new...(few months.) She is really country and talks really loud. She was one who had been sick and kept telling me that her stomach was still 'so emotional..I mean it's just so emotional...Has been ever since I got sick..I don't know why it's so emotional.' Sue and I tried not to laugh. I bet she repeated that phrase 20 times, each time, caregivers were trying not to get tickled and keep a straight face. I love these kids!

Guess I will go for now. We are all enjoying life and thanking God for our many blessings!

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Nice highlights! I will give it a try.

-I completed the promotional material for a new program I am organizing at the university. This is a highlight because marketing is not my thing. I found a great person to help me. She ran with it without any hesitation. We are a good team.

Glad Daniel is acting back to normal, with good appetite and activity. Come on, Spring Break!

Hurray for outdoor winter walks. We have had more sunshine lately. Sunshine sure does help with outlook and energy levels.

Make it a great evening!

Hi girls! Great news to report!! My boy is starting to act more like my Daniel again. He still seemed puny early on. He went to a re check at the doctor's office today The doctor that he felt the antibiotic should continue to working for about another week, but if he wasn't showing some improvement, to come back tomorrow. I just read on the prescription that most patients show some improvement by day 5, but it does continue to work. Daniel's appetite has not been good at all for a few days, but today he kept asking for more...More soup, more pudding, more gatorade...everything. He is also in his room playing with his pennies, so I think we are all on the mend.

We had three VIPs out at Joy Center today. They are ones who usually never miss. Not sure what was going on, but I have my guesses. We also had a couple to come in and tell us that they got sick over the weekend with a stomach flu. Caleb came in today with tremors as he gets occasionally, but always gets when he is battling a virus. He also had another issue leading us to believe it was the virus, but thankfully no throwing up. Let's send this mess on out of here and enjoy our Spring Break!!

I like the Highlight of the Day. I post what I call a VIP Spotlight or Highlight along with my gofundme that I just updated...thought it was funny that I got on here and saw the 'highlight' comment immediately after.

Let's see, my highlights were:

1. I woke up with absolutely no reminders of the virus from Hades

2. My boy is acting more himself!

3. One of my kids on the bus put his arm around me and 'kissed' me on my cheek. It was so sweet because he is one that usually comes on the bus mad and usually show no emotion and is non verbal.

Oh, American Idol, again funny you mentioned it along with the name 'Carson' somewhere in your post. His first name is either Cason or Carson. They usually have strawberry stands, but also other produce, as well. Hubby and I were watching it last night, and it seems they are just trying too hard to be funny.(judges, particularly Katy Perry. I liked it when Simon Cowell was on there, although I did feel sorry for some of them after hearing they were not making it to Hollywood.

Yes, coffee shops sure have evolved with the changes...it used to be where 'old people' went, at least according to teenagers...now it is teenagers and young adults that seem to be the majority of the customers...except for Ellie and I on Fridays. lol

Not much happening here. It is so cold, and I have to get gas tonight in my car as I have let my fuel light come on. I haven't even been to my car since Friday after work except to get a green tea I had left in there.

Life is good.

Deb

Hi Team

Hope your week and plans for the week go well, Monica !!

Hope Daniel especially and all of you are feeling better today Deb, and that your trip will go ahead as planned. I will watch out for the American Idol contestant Lester on Wednesday. I may have to tape it as it is Carson's birthday and we are going to his parents' place for dinner.
Coffee shops in the old days didn't have WiFi lol.

Today is sunny and looks warm, but still chilly out. I went walking this morning with my BFF and I think I got a bit of wind burn. My cheeks are rosy :) Sunny is nice. Just a regular day today.

SparkGuy is doing a Highlight of the Day challenge streak.
I like the day highlights idea. It is an exercise in gratitude and it keeps us in touch with life instead of just rushing along and it helps keep us motivated to live a life of quality by having to have something to report.

I am going to post my day's highlights on my spark page and here.

March 3 highlights

All my kids were home, from next door, Vancouver, Seattle and Montreal

I spent quality time with oldest DD in a Vancouver coffee shop, mostly she studied and I Sparked, but we had some conversation time too

I picked out the colour for the t-shirt for the April 7 race (5k and 10k) that I am helping to organize - this year they will be a bright royal blue. Last year they were kelly green

Hi Team,

June, how wonderful to read your post. We have missed you. Glad you had a lovely weekend with your family. I did get most of what I had planned accomplished. Much more than if there were no plan at all. On to the week ahead!

Deb, I do hope that Daniel gets relief from that sinus and throat pain very soon. I understand that you want to take your trip knowing that he is well. Definitely wishing for this all to work out for you guys.

Make it a great week!

Oh, just another useless tidbit of information...lol

A guy from my town is going to be on American Idol March 6. He and his family run several produce stands here in Lebanon. I haven't been watching lately unless it just happens to be on and I see it, but I am going to try to remember to record and/or watch it. Last name is Lester.

Hi girls! June, it is so good to have you back. You were missed.

The coffee shop outing sounds fun and relaxing....Funny how perspectives change as we get older. If someone had asked me to go to a 'coffee shop' when I was younger, I would have rolled my eyes and laughed..not enough going on...too quiet....now it is one of my favorites, especially since Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are in my town.

Thanks for the condolences....They are much appreciated. Micah fought so hard, but we all knew his time was limited. I am so thankful for our Thanksgiving together on that almost perfect day. I remember cherishing each moment, knowing that it would most likely be our last holiday with him. The only thing that would have made it more perfect was if he was well. Not to be, I guess. God knows best. Farther along, we'll know all about it :)

I wonder what Muslims complain about? lol....the weather is always the main topic here...too hot, too cold, too rainy, too humid, need more rain. etc.

I have second-guessed our trip. I am getting anxious about leaving Daniel...Before I was more anxious about leaving Zelda Louise since I know Daniel will be cared for. Now with Daniel's issues, I am getting antsy. I can get an almost full refund. I mentioned it to Melissa, and I thought she was gonna kill me. Daniel has been crying with his throat today. He slept on and off till almost 2. He seemed better last night after getting sick, saying he was better. I was hoping he would react like I usually do, go to sleep, then wake up refreshed. He goes back to the doctor tomorrow since he is still having issues. I don't know what else to do....He has had antibiotics, which he usually responds to very quickly. This is the Z Pack that is supposed to keep working even after you're finished taking them. He still has one dose left for tomorrow. Praying they find a solution and the exact cause so we can leave with no reservations.

I enjoyed a nice workout...intervals, I guess you could say. I would jog during a song, then do leg and abdomen work during the next. I lasted for about 45 minutes, but I don't think I could had I not done intervals. Told hubby although I feel just fine, my stamina is not quite where it was before.

My spring weather and the pretty flowers and blooms will probably be gone after tomorrow...at least for a couple more weeks. Time to bring the boots and heavy coats back out for another round. The day of my walk is supposed to be highs in the mid 60s with rain. That's okay....I can deal with rain..

Y'all have a blessed work week.

Deb

Hi Team

Deb, hope you are all back to normal tomorrow, it really is a drag when everyone in the house is sick :(. Condolences for Micah, he was brave. Hope your dad and everyone close to him is at peace too. Wow, how spring-like your area is even if the temperatures are a bit cold. This winter we have had the third winter in a row that had an extended period of below-zero weather, about 6 weeks of it since the end of January. Some winters it rains all winter, most winters we have two or three stretches of freezing weather that lasts about a week. Our fields are brown, usually the grass stays green all winter even if it doesn't grow. Oh well, can't do anything about the weather, just have to adjust to what God sends. I read somewhere that Muslims aren't allowed to complain about the weather as that would be criticizing Allah's arrangements.

Monica, 9-10 years old is for sure a sweet age. I wanna be on your team and go bowling, have pizza, and play laser tag!! You coaches are the best :) I find when I make a plan, even if I don't do it all, I do a lot more than if I don't make a plan.

This weekend was wonderful for me, all my kids were home. Today we had brunch together, after Eric and Molly headed home to Seattle. I drove Marina to Vancouver and am hanging out with her at a coffee shop while she does homework and I catch up with my Sparking. She doesn't live that far away, but is very busy with work so I don't see her for months at a time. I must say, they have too many tantalizing goodies here. I bought a coconut powerball, a super bar of oats, dates and hemp seeds, and another bar with pumpkin seeds, cranberries and sesame seeds. Hopefully the bars will make it home and I will eat them Monday and Tuesday.

Life is good, this team is awesome!!

Hi girls! Hope you're all well. I am feeling much better and pretty rested, but poor hubby got sick yesterday...He didn't have all symptoms, but enough to make him miserable. I was unsure if Daniel began it with his symptoms on Thursday at Joy Center, especially when he was diagnosed with sinus infection and said that was probably what was making him sick. However, he felt better Friday and Saturday morning, but by last night, he was up and down going to the restroom and having all symptoms as I did. Poor guy...he's had to deal with severe sinus infection, antibiotics that may be messing with his stomach and a stomach virus. I felt so bad for him last night...we were all on different ends of the couch..hubby was shivering loudly, as a man does, telling us how badly he felt...Daniel kept saying, "Oh(ouch) momma, oh" He kept nudging closer. I know he felt horrible, but he wasn't listening to anything I was telling him...Finally I had had it. I was tired and drained...all I wanted to do was sleep, so I told them they could sit and complain all night long, but I was going to bed...I grabbed all my blankets and went to the bedroom like a pissed off teenager. Now I feel pretty guilty about how childish I acted. lol Hopefully we're all on the mend. emoticon

Glad the basketball celebration went well. Just another sign that spring is on its way when that season comes to an end. Yes, 9 and 10 are great ages...No worries, no job...I thought I had it so bad when I was asked to clean my room. lol They're really too young to have boy troubles, and too young to want a job of their own, just play and have fun. Carefree!

As far as the 'organization', my plans for Saturday were to finish cleaning my dining cabinets out....yes, the same dining cabinets I've been supposed to clean for a month now. Needless to say, I didn't do much yesterday. I washed all my blankets...7 of them, washed the bath rugs in the restroom, disinfected both restrooms, washed some dishes and put others in the dishwasher(too many to all go in the dishwasher..lol) I didn't bother putting the blankets up, just dried them and threw them in a room. It looks like I did more than I actually did. Most of my day was spent on the couch, watching Matlock and Mama's Family.

Well, another cold and dreary day with rain most of the day and cold till mid week. A few years ago, we had snow in March that shut down schools and businesses. Although March is so up and down with the weather, I am comforted in knowing that it is the transition month, and spring is coming...it may not feel like it right now, but it's on its way!

Not much going on now. Daniel went back to bed about 45 minutes ago and seems to be on the mend. Hopefully all will be back to normal by tomorrow and I can get this house clean and organized before our trip.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Deb, thank you for pulling us into March. The photos are wonderful. We are looking at snow covered ground here. Big piles of snow everywhere! That's okay because if March roars in like a lion, it is supposed to go out like a lamb.

Hope you are feeling better today, Deb. I bet you are excited for the upcoming walk and then your trip. I remember when you planned those and had them to look forward to and now they are almost here.

We held our team celebration last night for the girls on the basketball team. We treated them to bowling, pizza, and laser tag. It's great to be 9 and 10 years old. Today I need to get my game on and get organized for the week. I sound like a broken record. But I do find that getting my routine and plans set for the week helps. If we don't follow it, that's fine. I guess the comfort is in the plan.

Make it a great day!

Monica

Hi girls! I hope you're all well. June, so excited to catch up on your life and everything going on. Hopefully its all good news.

As y'all know I am rarely sick. If I do come down with a virus, I usually don't get the full blown effects...I usually just feel kinda achy and puny and am just drained all day. It has probably been 15-20 years that I have had everything that comes along with a virus. Well, that changed last night! Girls, I am serious...I almost had hubby take me to the ER, but I kept telling myself that I react like this each time I get that sick. I felt great all day, but by evening I was really tired. I attributed it to interrupted sleep, so I laid down about 8 pm. I kept having what I thought was acid reflux from eating some spicy popcorn...flavored like takis, which are super hot. It wasn't long before I realized I had the stomach flu, and it was the virus straight from hell. I am not joking!! I finally got to get some sleep about 3 am, then slept solid till about 9 am.

Y'all are going to think I'm crazy, but ever since it has been going around, I have been thinking that I, of course, do not want it, but I am long overdue, so if I were to get it, this Friday night would be perfect..lol..I would get it over with, not have to worry about getting sick during work days or spring break, plus my walk is coming up next Saturday. I feel good now..just tired. We are unsure if Daniel has had it or not because he had a bought at Joy Center. We took him to the doctor, and he has a severe sinus infection. We are not sure if he was sick with the virus, as well, or if it was just from drainage. I couldn't help but think about Micah and others who have battled cancer and other illnesses that keep them feeling bad constantly, for months on end. I can honestly see why Micah and others did not want to continue treatment. I am so very thankful for my health and strong immune system.

Ok, enough about me and my once in a blue moon illness.

I am sending some photos that I took a week or two ago. The buttercups are everywhere now! However, the lows are in the teens, and the highs are only in the 30s for the next few days.

I am excited about our trip in about a week and a half. I'm also excited about our 10 K next Saturday. I have been exercising faithfully, and actually got in a great, long workout yesterday evening. I doubt I will do much today, but hopefully tomorrow will be a new day!

Happy Spring, y'all!

Deb
