Hi Team,

June, thanks for the update. You have had an ambitious schedule and hope you are all enjoying the adventure.

Deb, wishing you great weather and fun times with your 5K today. May you come home to planted banana trees.

We have lots of activities to run back-and-forth to today and then Sunday we can relax a bit. The neighborhood kids were outside playing until dark last night. Life is good!

Our trip is now at day 11 of our 17 day trip, and are still on the road. The day after tomorrow, we go to stay with relatives in one place for the 5 days, and the last 2 days will be traveling home.

Hope you are all having a good weekend!!

So glad your trip is going well, June! Hubby and I can barely go to the next town without a few 'eye rolls' and sarcastic remarks...mainly from me, but who's counting? lol

Monica, fresh spinach? We will have to try planting different veggies one year. I noticed hubby bought some tomato plants the other day. We still haven't planted, but we should be out of the danger of frost by now. That means it's that time of year when we will also be dragging out banana trees. I am betting he will do that while I am on my walk this coming weekend.

Life is good today. I began on housework today, key word-began....I did a few small tasks that seemed to help a bit but still a long way to go. I folded all my blankets since hubby and I both crashed on the couch last night. They never got put up...still setting in a chair in the living room. I ran my dish water but never done the dishes...decided just to put up the ones in the dishwasher, then just run it, but haven't done that either. I found a few boxes of stray items that never made it to the yard sale, then put them in the building and ran a carload of items I put in the car yesterday to the storage unit. So if housekeeping and completing my to do list was graded, I would get a big fat F....lol I'm glad my work ethic is better than my housekeeping skills. emoticon

Not much else happening. Excited as the school year winds down and I'll have more options of things to do, especially on Monday and Tuesday when I have Caleb later.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Deb, glad you had a productive outcome with your sale. I can picture you being just fine on your own walking a 5K and making new friends as you go. Love your spirit!

June, that is a good sign when you have some near-issues where everything works out okay. That is a good point about strengthening your connections between siblings. We find that when we visit our siblings at their homes, there is always so much going on and we barely have any time together. When we can all take the time to go on a trip together, we leave all the distractions from daily home life behind. So happy the trip is going well for you.

Garden update: we repotted tomatoes and basil into larger pots because they were getting big and we know we will probably have them inside for another 3 - 4 weeks. That was fun and it was good day for us to do it because it is cold and windy here. I will be surprised if we reach 50 degrees Fahrenheit today. I tackled one shrub renovation project and left the other for next weekend. I was getting cold working outside in the wind without any sunshine. We had the first picking of spinach for lunch today. Simple pleasures!

Make it a great day!

Hi Team

Glad your sale went well, Deb. You have a good social plan for your race, nothing will disappoint you because you can adjust:)

Lots of potential in your basement for your garden, Monica. The plants are just waiting to put their roots down.

We are on Day 5 of our 17-day vacation. So far so good, we have had a few bumps and worries, but everything so far has been resolved well. One event that we pre- bought tickets to was held the day before due to local circumstances and niece, who bought the tickets, found the notice to the ticket holders in her junk mail the day before so we adjusted our plans and made it to the event. It could have happened that she didn't see it and we arrived a day late and missed the event. The young people, niece and her boyfriend, both 20, are a pleasure to travel with. They are very patient in long lineups, express how much they are enjoying everything, basically patient and enthusiastically grateful. My brother, sister and I, all 60+, are having more connection and conversation because we are always together and this wouldn't be the case at home. So far, so good!!

Hi ladies! I hope you've all enjoyed your weekend. June, how did your trip go with family? Hope things are continuing to run smoothly.

Our forecast was perfect all week for a yard sale, then the night before, they slipped in a slight chance of rain(20%) Well, that's pretty much every day, so we held the sale. We didn't have any really big items like the dressers, desks, and tables we had last time...Our largest item was a large round end table and a podium style item, which I think was used as a single bar stool counter. It looked like a podium, but was heavier and made of a sturdy material...maybe something from an outdoor kitchen...It clouded up and rained literally what felt like 20 drops of rain...lol...Just enough to scare us...We waited it out, it cleared up, then about 45 minutes later, did the same thing. It wasn't enough to hurt anything. We started putting up about 4 and got done about 7 after waiting on several more stragglers. Our total for a few pre-sale items and yesterday totaled $557, I think..mid 500s, which I think was amazing for not having the large items that pumped the total up like last time. So glad it's over with. We have a truck load of glassware, lamps, books and other items that are going to Goodwill later.

We still have lots of consignment items left that are stored in the building, and I will be taking another load back to the storage unit so we have a little more room.

Next week is our 5 K. Margaret will be out of state in Alabama, so I will miss my walking buddy. We talk each other through the "I really, really, have to pee, and I don't see a port a potty" stages in our walks...lol...Sue may not be there because her daughter in law graduates college that day. It will depend on the time. Alicia forgot to send in her registration form, so she is iffy. Finally another caregiver, Valerie, is supposed to walk with me. I enjoy the company in these walks, but I will also be fine if I walk solo. Some people hate walking alone, but it doesn't bother me as I will strike up small talk conversation with anyone not wearing ear buds. lol

Looking forward to enjoying the day and warmer weather this week...back in the 80s for the most part. I love spring!

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Deb, has the weather cooperated so that you can hold your sale? I know you are eager to move on with those items, one way or the other. My DH is handy. Our neighbor complements him on that quite a bit. She says she always hires out every odd job because her husband just does not have that kind of skill or confidence to want to learn as he goes. Which is okay -- it takes all kinds.

We are having a cold and rainy day. Glad we have no plans for outdoor activities today. I will have to face the facts and get the housework done. Once we move outside to gardening and yard work and playing softball, it is hard to stay motivated with keeping up with the cleaning and cooking.

We love garden tomatoes, too. The fresh snap peas are delicious and a vegetable that the whole family enjoys. This is still the time of year for us where it is not warm enough to plant most things outside. We have a lot of our garden on a table in the basement, sitting under a light. Lot's of anticipation right now.

Make it a great weekend!

Hi girls! Glad your to-do list is dwindling. Your hubby seems a lot like mine in that he is quite handy around the house. He enjoys building things and figuring out how things work.

I enjoyed Sunday morning service with my next door neighbor. She is widowed, and I needed to get Daniel out of the house while hubby played Easter bunny. He(hubby)usually enjoys a Sunrise Service on the square, but they changed it to a Good Friday service, so he missed it. This afternoon after church, I began pulling out boxes for the sale and putting them under the carport. I'm trying to weed out a lot of junk and consolidate boxes with like items. I completed one side. I am planning on working on the other tomorrow and Tuesday. Still have newer items inside and more in the unit. Thankfully, though, it is lighter items with the exception of books and glassware outside. Praying all will go well and the weather will cooperate for the sale on Saturday.

I hope your garden does well. I love snap peas, but I have never tried growing them. I can't wait for the tomatoes.

Not much else happening here.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Happy Easter!

I am working my way through the list. We got a lot accomplished in the garden yesterday. I needed a trellis for our snap peas to climb. DH built that for me. Looking forward to watching them grow.

So glad the rain held off until everyone got a turn to bat. I can see why you have limited weekends for a yard sale this time of year. There are so many events that come with the end of the school year.

Make it a great day!

Hi girls! I hope you get your to do list done, Monica, and all runs smoothly.

We played the entire first game of ball Thursday night, then we had just finished the second team batting one time when it began to rain steadily for the second game. Funny that is how it usually seems to happen right as the last player has batted. Thankful for the small things because that means so much to the players....pretty much a bummer if you've watched everyone else bat, then you're rained out.

It has rained since, and our highs are dropped from low 80s to upper 40s. A dramatic drop, not to mention the dreary, rainy weather...However, it does seem fitting that Good Friday would be gloomy, Saturday -gloomy, as well, then the sunshine returning and a beautiful day on Easter Sunday.

I know this sounds bad, but I am seriously hoping for a rain out for this coming Thursday....If I don't have a yard sale this coming weekend, it will have to wait quite a while because the following weekend is our 5 K, then after that begins end of school concerts, ceremonies, etc. Thankfully, we don't have all the big heavy items that we had last time, so I think I can have one that will be manageable for one person. Sue, Melissa, and two other Joy Center caregivers will be gone on the Women of Joy Conference for this coming weekend, so I can't have anything too large. It is still a lot of stuff, but mainly consignment shop leftovers that I think should sell...We still have a lot of glassware from the last sale and lots and lots of books. I am trying to find small boxes and box up several matching and a few miscellaneous glassware items and put a price on the whole box to get rid of them. I'm planning on kids books 25c each of 5 for $1 and the larger novels and adult books for 50c each, also with a buy 4, get one free incentive...lol...trying to get creative because these items are the second go around and I'm planning on what doesn't sell of those this time will be taken to a donation bin. I'll save the newer items for the next sale if it's not too much.

Not much else going on here.

Life is good here.

Hope y'all have a great weekend.

Deb

Hi Team,

I hope you got your softball game in, Deb. We are looking forward to games starting next week.

Neat experiences for the young people that have travelled/are traveling to Japan. Adventurous!

I have a long list of things to get done here around the home and garden. Busy is good! Wanted to check in to find out what was new!

Make it a great weekend!

Hi girls! Hope everyone is well and enjoying life.

June, I hope your trip with family goes well. Glad things are well enough for it to be attempted...That is an improvement by itself.

We are getting ready for ball...Yes, it has been several years since I have been 'coaching', but Daniel played for several years before that. It is very enjoyable and fun, but sometimes I pray for rain when it has been a long day...lol...I'm keeping a close eye on the weather as storms are expected to roll in in the next couple hours. I don't expect us to finish both games, but who knows?

June, Jessey and Alicia loved their trip to Japan! They were constantly posting photos and videos. Alicia even said Jessey asked her if they could stay one more day.....She told him it wasn't like a trip to the mountains where they could just modify plans. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime for them. I hope your kids enjoy their trip, as well. What an adventure!

I'm excited that we have tomorrow off from the bus...I was hoping to set out yard sale items to weed out my building and rotate sale items out...Those items that don't sell that were in the last sale would go on to Goodwill or be donated, and the newer items would be saved for the next while still taking in more items. I'm disappointed that our weather is expected to be rain on and off all day tomorrow with a high of 50!!! What a bummer......70s and 80s the rest of the week, but the rain tonight brings in another cold front....not sure which southern 'winter' it is...We have already had a couple cold snaps...maybe dogwood and redbud?? I know cotton britches is the last one...blackberry is in there somewhere.

Do y'all get the cicadas that come around every so often? We are set for those pesky little critters to get here between April and JUne. We have had them where they're not too bad, then we have had them where they are literally everywhere and you can barely walk outside without them buzzing into you. Swarms were everywhere a couple times that I can remember...once when hubby and I were dating or just married, and another time before that.

Well, it's not raining yet, so I better get my shorts on and get ready to play some ball!!

Y'all be good!

Deb

Hi Team

Softball season, love it. Deb, you have been playing with the young people every year for a long time. Monica, so cool your daughter and teammates have great attitudes and a great coach. All coaches appreciate parent helpers. Silvia's friend Tessa invited her to play on a recreational mixed soccer team, before her first game she was not happy, saying Tessa pressured her until she agreed, but after the first game, she was happy and it looks like she will enjoy it.

Deb, that is tough when Daniel is not letting you get your rest.

Deb, how did Alicia and Jessey like Japan? Eric and Molly are going together at the end of April.

We are planning a trip with thriving niece April 24 - May 10. We means thriving niece, her dad, her boyfriend, my sister and I. A party of 5, I think we are going to have a good time all together, although there is potential that no one gets along by the end of the trip, but I don't think that will happen.

Hi girls! Hope everyone is enjoying life! I sure love spring, but the pollen is so thick that it is literally leaving a thick film on the cars. I can sure feel it in my ears and throat being scratchy and clogged, but so thankful the stomach bug that is still circulating in high numbers left us a while back. I'll take clogged and scratchy over sick, lethargic and miserable any day.

Daddy and I sang at our old church today. It was good seeing everyone again, and we enjoyed our time there. We did have some pretty strong storms with lots of wind and thunder last night and wind and rain today....it has also cooled off quite a bit today after the front settled in, but it's still comfortable outside...cool, but comfortable.
*
Yay for softball! I enjoy 'coaching', but if I didn't have that title, I don't think I would feel so pressured to look like I at least know what I'm doing...lol....At least with my special guys, you can act like your screw-ups on the field are part of it. I bet your do a great job with being the parent helper...lots of the same skills and activities.

Not much happening here. I have attempted a nap several times, but Daniel is wired, hollering asking about 'gurl' tomorrow. I'd be about asleep, and he'd come into the living room, "Hey, momma, look." Then he'd swing open the front door, look all surprised, and holler to the top of his lungs, "GURL!" And ask again, "morrow?" (tomorrow?) I think I am more tired from getting thirty minutes of continually interrupted nap time than not trying at all. Now hubby is curled up on the couch, Daniel is content in his room, and hubby is snoring. Thinking seriously about pouring some ice water or something on him. #notfair emoticon

It's a short week with Good Friday this week. No other plans except for the yard sale. I'm hoping the weather will cooperate this time. It is supposed to rain Wednesday and Thursday and only a slight chance on Friday, but with the way they've been so wrong lately, I'm not ruling anything out.

Hope y'all have a great week!

Enjoy!

Deb

Hi Team,

Spring has arrived! At least the grass is green and we can see signs of the trees and shrubs beginning to flower. I have several more plants to set out in the garden today. These are seedlings that we started indoors at the beginning of March. Softball is going well. I am not a coach this season but I am a parent helper. I am good at setting up cones where needed and being available to run a drill station. The coach is skilled and a great organizer and the girls have super attitudes. It is fun to hang around with this softball crowd.

Deb, our spring weather is the same. So hard to plan ahead on anything. I bet the baby/toddler items will sell well when you get a chance to hold the sale. I know we always went out to find those items at yard sales and those that had those items for sale were always the busier sale locations.

June, I would love to have property with berry bushes and fruit trees. Enjoy your style of gardening!

Make it a great day!

Hey ladies! Way to go on the 5 K, June. That's a great time! I walk fast according to casual walkers, but even that is only a 15 minute mile.

We had ball last night. The weather forecasts lately have not been accurate at all. They usually say the rain is coming on at a certain time or day and it ends up being much later than they say. Originally our rain, storms, and wind was coming Thursday (yesterday) right after noon. They gradually kept moving it up until it didn't come till well after midnight through most of today, so my small yard sale is not happening. I hope it's nice next Friday since I won't have to rush back to my bus. Joy Center also got the leftovers from a consignment shop donated that ended up being two van loads, so probably a little larger than a 'small' sale. Lots of cute little girl clothes...others, as well, but mainly little girl stuff. There are also some baby/toddler items that usually sell well.

Ollie the Collie...I need to come up with a name for Zelda...I'll have to think on that to do her justice.

How's the garden coming along, y'all? We haven't began anything yet. I am hoping for just a few tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and bell peppers. I don't want all my back lot to be garden so we can have movies and bonfires.

Not a lot going on....PLanning on a restful, relaxed weekend with no plans.

Y'all be good!

Monica, yay for your budding garden!! My friend who is a good gardener told me she planted potatoes today and her salad, peas and radishes are already up. As for me, not much happening in the vegetable garden, but I am proud of the fruit trees I pruned and have been watching them blossom and will be watching the fruit grow. Easy gardening haha, If I get more motivated I will do something in the vegetable garden this Saturday. Molly and Ollie do rhyme, and my brother has further added a nickname to Ollie, he calls him Ollie the collie.

Way to go, Deb, you are the fundraising queen!! Zelda Louise does sound like an entertaining and high-energy dog:) 80 degree weather again? Nice. It has been rainy, cold and wet here, about 50 degrees F or 10 degrees C.

On Sunday I ran in a 5k race that raises funds for our local hospital hospice unit. It is a small race, about 85 runners in the 5k and 65 runners in the 10k race. I had a good race, my goal was to be under 30 minutes and I finished in 29:09. Molly was here for the weekend, DH and Silvia made a delicious dinner of home-made pasta with carbonara sauce (eggs and bacon and parmesan cheese) and I made a southwest salad of corn, black beans, cucumbers, bell peppers, celery, sweet onions, and Silvia made cookie tshat she insisted go with ice cream for dessert, no resistance from me.For sure over calorie cap, but I am back on track now. Life is good

Hi girls! Just a quick check in...Nothing new except that we have exceeded our goal! We reached it earlier today on our gofundme page, then after I had stopped donations, we had two offline donations totaling $330!! I always let them know up front that our goal has been met, and whatever money is left, if any, it is usually deposited into a field trip fund, but regardless, it goes back toward our special needs community. I'm quite honored that they put that trust in me.

Not much else happening. Another 80 degree day...loved it! But, of course, it will cool down in a couple days to long sleeves again. :( More storms expected Thursday night. I doubt they will get here before our ball games.

I think Caleb and I may set out for a smaller yard sale on Friday to get rid of some more bins in the building that were left. We are continuing to get more items, so I'm hoping to do this for several Fridays over the next few months. I don't know that I want to do another Saturday for a while, but if it's not an overwhelming amount, I MIGHT. Definitely not up for the flea market size ones we usually have.

Y'all be good. I'm getting tired.

Hi girls! Good to see this activity.

June, your guess is as good as mine on the cat in the trash can joke. lol..At least the others were saying things that could have been believable if their presentation was a little more convincing. We do have a small trash can on the bus strapped by the front door, but I'm pretty sure there was never a cat in it. lol....She may have been thinking about a true story from one of the other sp. ed. buses. They had a child several years ago who tried to sneak a cat in a backpack to take it to school. I don't remember how far they had gotten before they heard the meows or what, but that was probably fifteen years ago or more. It was during the time I worked on the bus, and it was one of the best stories ever. Thankfully the cat was okay and the driver, aide, and I still have a good laugh about some of the antics we have experienced on our bus. Never a dull moment.

I have just now realizing Molly and Ollie rhyme, as well. lol...June, if you ever retire from farming, I think you should start a doggie day care business. Seems like a perfect environment for it. The name Zelda Louise has become quite infamous with the Joy Center kids and neighbors. We're always telling things that she has done or the kids who are over here occasionally will tell how she got into this or that and 'Zelda Louise' is now associated with being a little hellion...lol...cute, loveable, but into everything. She runs through the garden spot like a blur and chases everything from butterflies, squirrels, to birds. I'm wondering if Zelda Louise will eventually go down in history as a Jezebel or Benedict Arnold. lol She has quite the personality.

Monica, I hope your plants do well. Exciting spring activities.

My computer 'aw snapped ' me again, so I will try to post before it does it again.

Hi Team,

Way to go on the yard sale, Deb! That was a full day with needing to save the set up work until the day of the sale. Glad that Challenger Ball started. I bet everyone was ready to play.

June, I just noted that Molly and Ollie rhyme. So nice to have her visit. Good reminder to check for ticks, too. Have a great 5K today -- I saw you mentioned that on the exercise thread.

It has been busy here. A good busy. Lots of projects at work, softball is starting, and we are getting outside more to tend to the garden. We moved our spinach and lettuce starts out to the garden. So far they seemed to have survived the transplanting. Now we wait for the plants to mature enough so we can pick the leaves.

Make it a great day!

Monica

Wow, 80 degrees Deb? One of my other Spark friends Slenderella61 lives in Florida and she, just like you, is talking about spring and blossoms, which makes me think it isn't too different from where I live, but you all have 80 degree weather, sounds like summer to me, not spring lol.

The April fools day jokes, I got the "there's a bug in your hair, shoe's untied" "but what does cat in the trash can" mean?

Way to go with your fund raising and organizing events for the Joy Center youth!!

This weekend Molly came to visit. Ollie is with us. It is tick season, several of my friends and their dogs picked up ticks, I thought I found one on Ollie on his lower jaw gum, it looked like and was the shape and size of a tick, turns out it was a papilloma, a wart. The vet said it should just drop off on it's own.

Life is good
Have a good weekend, keep moving, drink your water...

Hi girls! Update on totals for yard sale...

Presale $ 195
Today's sale: 713

For a total of... $908

I do have a couple people that have some items put back, so we may have a little more.

Another update for Christmas in July Campaign. We are now at $2810, so we are only 190 from goal!

I have been up since 5, people finally stopped coming around 6pm, and we didn't finish packing, loading, putting away and picking up bits of paper and trash until a few minutes after 8. I am finally winding down. It has been a long day, but well worth it for these guys and dolls.

Y'all be good. I have got to shower. When you raise your arms to stretch and you smell yourself, it is time! emoticon I am at that point! It was supposed to be 80 today. I am just thankful for no rain. We wanted to set up a lot yesterday, but it was overcast all day with sprinkles here and there, so it didn't work, and we had to do the majority today.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi girls! For some reason, I have been having problems with the Spark site booting me off lately. I make posts, then as June says, "Poof" lol

June, I thought about the chocolate egg prank. Too funny. I think I may try the doughnut box filled with veggies one day on hubby. He loves his sweets! I also saw where a woman had saved all her Amazon boxes from the year, then set them all out on the porch before her husband came home from work on April 1. LOL...

I have been busy on yard sale items for the past few days, both loading, unloading, pricing, etc. I'm looking forward to walking in a clean, uncluttered house again, but y'all know how that goes here. We're starting early this year, so maybe I can enjoy the summer without getting ready for another huge sale.

Not much else happening here. It is finally warm, but a chance of rain tomorrow and into Friday. We began Challenger last Thursday and had a really full, ready to play crowd. I could really use the extra time tomorrow night to finish what I can in the house for the sale. Matter of timing on the rain once again.

Y'all be good!

Deb

Thanks for the reminder, June! It is April! I love the spring months with all the bright colors. This is a beautiful spring for us. Most of the colored trees are in bloom now. I'm loving the cherry trees. I think they're the prettiest I've seen in a while. Not sure which trees are the late bloomers, but they're still some that still aren't full.

Based on food expenses, site fee, ice, but not accounting the one time expenses...coolers, new utensils, thermometers, etc...that we can continue to use, I think we cleared between 600 and 700. Of course, we didn't have to pay our help as he and hubby traded out work. That would be another expense...all in all, I think it was a great first event, and I'm very pleased with the amount. It was a lot of hard work. We still have a ways to go before we even begin to make full profit since we need to include the full start up cost with the permits, fees, and of course the cost of the cart. I'm more excited now since I saw how we ran during a super busy day. Makes me think smaller events, although not as profitable, would run smoothly.?? We will see.

Melissa and I are going to try to reserve a venue for Christmas in July tomorrow. We discussed it at Joy Center today with the caregivers to see what would work best. We have decided on Tuesday, July 2 at Cedars of Lebanon. I love having it closer at the church, but with this theme, I think this venue will work better to give the right feel for the "Old Fashioned' theme.

We will be having a yard sale at my house this Saturday. Since we are so close to goal, this sale will go toward our Disney trip in 2022. If I need to have a smaller sale to finalize our party expenses, I still have plenty of time and will get one together if needed. Thankful to have that much support without having to earn a huge sum of money through yard sales. I enjoy them, but the larger ones are exhausting.

My bus kids were too tired this morning to prank me. I think they didn't even realize it. I told Ellie by afternoon, they would figure it out through the other kids. Sure enough the PM route was filled with, "there's a bug in your hair, shoe's untied, cat in the trash can? " and the list could go on. The kids were super loud and hyper today on the bus...Not sure if they had some sort of party or sweets at lunch or if they were just feeding off the others. One of the teachers said that "It was the Monday-est Monday ever!" We knew that was bad. lol

Not much else happening. I'm getting tire and starting to misspell.

Y'all be good!

Deb
