Hi Team

How did your appointment with your dad go, Deb?

It is going to be a sunshiney weekend, I am planning to work in the garden.

Last day of May, starting tomorrow is my month :)

Hi ladies! Glad you've enjoyed some great family time, June! So happy when things are well with family members with no arguing or drama. The cookout sounds like fun...so great to have extended family and friends to enjoy outdoor activities.

Hubby and I 'piddled' yesterday...pretty much all day. I white-washed a few scrap pieces of 4x4 squares of different heights. Hubby is going to use some type of circular cutting drill to round out a hole in the middle of the top to set a votive cup or tea light. I have lots of greenery, ribbon, pine cones, etc to wrap around it for our Christmas in July decorations. I enjoy doing this type of work, but I almost always have to have a guide to give me some ideas, then run with it and add my own touches. I always ask hubby to just show me so I can do it myself, but I think he enjoys working outside and usually ends up just doing it for me. I would like to be more adventurous with the big tools, but don't want to end up maimed or missing limbs. lol

The tiki bar was faded pretty badly, so we drug it out and I painted the base turquoise and the two shelves a coral reef color. I've had some Hawaiian skirting straw in a box that has never been opened, so I will add it back hopefully this evening on top of the old skirting to make it fuller. I won't be using it for this party, but it gets used quite a bit during our yard sales for cookies and drinks.

I am up bright and early to get ready for dad's appointment. I didn't work with Caleb yesterday because I had worked Saturday at the sale. I will pick Caleb up early today in order to get daddy there in plenty of time. It is on my side of Nashville, so I don't have to go through downtown, which is a nightmare. this time of day. It is also close enough that I know a few of the back roads you can take if the interstate is backed up. Daniel also wants to go with me and then with Melissa later, but he is not as patient as Caleb. He wants to go till we get there, then complains from then on to come back home. I haven't made up my mind if he will be joining us. lol

Not much else happening today. Depending on what time daddy is ready to go, Caleb and I will probably reverse our day and do an outing later in the evening. This is one of my two long days with him, but thankful for more to do with more daylight hours now that winter is over.

Y'all be good!

Deb

Hi Team

Deb, you must be glad school is out and summer temperatures have arrived!! Today is a US holiday, we had our May long weekend last weekend. Deb, I hope all will go well for your dad, I just hate it that older people have to suffer and have ill health, it seems they should have a easy peaceful time in their senior years as a reward for all their years of hard work.

Molly had Monday off, so she came to visit us on the farm on Saturday and left Sunday to visit with Marina and my sister's son and wife, my kids' cousin on Sunday and Monday. The cousins have baby Eli, Molly had a fun visit with him. He is 6 months old now and just a teddy bear, he is so cute. Thriving niece and her boyfriend had a soccer tournament, part of a festival at a close by Indian reserve that was celebrating their 50th year of having this festival. Thriving niece and her sisters were in foster care for 3 years there when their mother was struggling with substance abuse and they had a very awesome foster family, so have good memories when they return there. Thriving niece's boyfriend's family invited us for a salmon and venison BBQ, it was soooo good. Life is good, all is well with family and extended family at the moment.

Monica, that is great you are enjoying salad from the garden!! I just seeded mine last week, and I was going to plant root vegetables this year, potatoes, carrots and beets. Carrots and beets are still part of the plan, but I can't find any seed potatoes. I might take your example and transplant some started plants, although in my case I will buy them rather than have started them myself.

Life is good, bring on summer.

Hi girls. I hope you're all well and enjoying life! This has been a restful morning so far. So excited to have a full day off without any schedules or anything that has to be done or anywhere I am expected to be. I slept till hubby left this morning around 7:30. He is off today and is busy pressure washing the driveway. I think I will repaint my tiki bar to spruce it up a bit...getting a bit faded, then I am going to try to white wash some old wood for some rustic look tea light holders...Key word is "TRY." lol And that is maybe.

It is hot again...Highs in the 90s for the next couple days, then a 'cool down' with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. This is my kind of weather, and I am loving it. Our pool is filled, but still trying to balance out the chemicals to get a perfect reading on all the levels. Until then I will just use the hose pipe.

My dad has tests run tomorrow. He had some areas of concern when he went to the doctor with blood count, dizziness, confusion, etc. My mom and I will be taking him for a colonoscopy tomorrow...He is NOT a good patient, and I know mom will have her hands full all day with the special diet and gruesome prep for the test. He also had high blood pressure top number was 202, and he is so stubborn, he refuses to have moma take it in fear of it still being high. I guess the older you get, the more set in your ways you are. What worries me is that my husband says I am just like him. Daddy's' memory is in and out..We are still seeing little signs of dementia and they are becoming more frequent. He has trouble getting his words out with even the simple words. I am hoping some of it can be attributed to his medicine. We are hoping to know more after these tests results are in.

Your garden sounds like it is coming along quickly, Monica. I hope the weather cooperates and you have lots of homegrown goodies. Tomatoes are the best!!

Well, I guess I need to actually go to Lowes and pick up some paint and get busy.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Great outcome from the sale this weekend, Deb. Now you can enjoy summer with all the sale goods sorted and onto to their next stop. Clever idea to do a $1 bag sale with the clothing.

Exciting that your squash plants are producing and the cucumber is not far behind. I planted seeds for both of those yesterday. We are setting out all the seedling plants. Yesterday I transplanted basil, peppers, eggplant, sweet potatoes. Today we will get the tomatoes set out. The tomatoes are a family project. Each of us has a variety of tomato and particular plants we are taking care of throughout the summer. The girls have cherry tomatoes, I have a yellow pear tomato, and DH has regular tomatoes. Looking forward to lots of tomatoes this year. Next week, the melons will be set in the garden and that will finish it. I enjoy seeing our garden beds fill up. So far, we have been picking lettuce, kale, and chard. Waiting patiently for everything else to produce in July and August.

Make it a great day!

Well, hello ladies!! I am so happy to announce that my building is clear of yard sale items, and everything from the sale yesterday and today at Allison's house is packed up and sorted into donate, re-sale, and trash. Sue and I decided that we are done with yard sales until the fall of the year. lol

Yesterday and today totaled 569.55. Pretty good, I think, considering we didn't have large items. We did have several baby items...swings, strollers, etc, but nothing priced over 10 in that set and then three sets of golf clubs priced at $25. None of the clubs sold, but one was a really nice ladies' set, almost new. Sue put all consignment clothes on a tarp and priced them $1 a bag. People were stuffing those bags like crazy.

Looking forward to a restful day tomorrow morning, then a picnic with my brother and his family in the afternoon. Afterwards, maybe I can continue sorting through my building and finish it. I also am excited to start piecing together my settings for our party, too, but I've got to get a few things put away so I can concentrate on one thing at a time. lol

Life is good here. We have some small squash on our plants now. Our cucumber plants have blooms, but that's all. Excited for the beginning of summer produce in a couple weeks.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Deb

Ha!! Well, I have learned something new today. Thanks, Monica. Here's the deal on the buttercups/daffodils. Yes, every southerner I know calls the flower in my picture 'buttercups.' We always joke that daffodils is just the fancier 'northern' word for it, but they were in our mind, the same thing. Google says differently, but it must all be wrong...lol. All of them .We also have a saying that winter is not over till it snows on the buttercups. They are the first sign of spring, sometimes as early as the third week of February, but almost always by the first of March. That saying was wrong, too, because I don't think it snowed at all here to amount to anything or stick for any amount of time...Of course, the saying doesn't say that it will stick, only that it will snow on them. So, yes, my buttercups are actually daffodils, but I will, out of habit continue to announce that, after a long, cold, winter, the buttercups are in bloom as soon as I see the first few bloom anxiously awaiting spring.

Happy Summer, everyone!

Deb

The yellow flowers I think in June's photo are the same flowers that grow wild in big fields and cover acres in the spring and summer. My official name for them has always been, 'those pretty yellow wildflowers.' lol.....

Hi Team,

We were treated to a lovely chorus concert tonight by the middle school students. It has been raining a lot the past few days. All the fields are starting to pond. We are all ready for dry weather and sunshine.

Interesting about the buttercups. I would call what June has buttercups and what Deb showed daffodils. So all these years, Deb, when you would say the buttercups are out, I had pictured them differently.

Enjoy the last day of school. I hope all runs smoothly and everyone has a happy sendoff into summer.

Make it a great evening!

Hi ladies! I meant to take a picture of my squash today, but scatterbrained as I am, I did not. emoticon It's okay, though....one more day of school, and I will have more time to do whatever and won't be so hurried all the time. Life is good.

The lettuce looks great, Monica! We had some a few years ago. It was beautiful and came up quickly, but the rabbits got to it before we enjoyed too much of it. June, are those flowers in your picture what are called buttercups in your area? Trying to ask a question while still making sense...lol...Not sure if it's working or not. They look quite a bit different from what we call buttercups here. Just wondering because southerners seem to have names for everything that are quite a bit different from other areas. What we call buttercups/daffodils usually bloom in late February or early March. I'll try to post a pic...Just interesting to me. I like learning new things. Very pretty regardless, but yes, lettuce will be great, too.

Well, I may be helping another yard sale this Friday and then trading yard sale work on Saturday for a Monday since hubby will be off, too, and Monday is usually my longest day. I sure hate to see Sue work it by herself, and I know if she was able and not at another commitment, she would have helped me. As much as I was looking forward to a weekend off, I will gladly trade for a Monday. Even though I complain about the sales and how much work they are, I really do enjoy working them and meeting people and watching the money roll in for the kids. It will be sooooo good to empty out that corner in my building so I can put my projects out there. My she shed, except with no air...lol...

It is hot here. Highs are going to be in the 90s all week. We took the cover off our pool today, and although it usually clears up quickly after chemicals are added, it sure does look and smell rough now.

Not much else happening. I figured out each VIP's spending money allotted for our party. I got clasp envelopes and have money in all the boys so far. I am going to have to break down my 20s into 5s to make it so each one has the correct amount. We had quite a few item donations for certain VIPs that have been picked up, and I had to deduct that so each child has $100 total, including donated items. I like to have it so each one still has at least $75 for the parent or caregiver to pick out the rest of the items for their VIP.

I found out we cannot have an ATV type vehicle there for rides in the campground. I am still looking into having a hayride. I know they're allowed, but I am waiting on a return call to see if I have to go through those provided by the park and how much, or if we can have our own. And if I have to use those provided by the park, will they accommodate our special guys and dolls. Lots of questions...still no answers, but all will work out. I will have to call back tomorrow or maybe take a couple of my sweet VIPs there and talk personally to a ranger or someone in charge. They may have a little compassion if they see my special guys and be a little more accommodating.

Ok, enough about me....I hope for no rain, Monica. June, I hope you all enjoyed your trip, and I hope both of you ladies had a wonderful Mother's Day last week.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Hi Team,

June, the buttercups are pretty. Lettuce will be better! Are you able to grow lettuce the entire summer? It is too hot for it in July and August. I can get some going again for September when I am organized and plan ahead. Here is a quick snap of our lettuce patch.

I am getting organized for the week, arranging schedules and meals. This is a fun time of year. We only have a dull evening if it rains.

Make it a great week!

Hi Team

I am still edging out of jet lag, but should be good soon. I will catch up with everyone this week.
Hope you are having a good weekend. Here in Canada, it is Victoria Day weekend, so we get Monday off too. Silvia and friends went camping, so DH and I are doing the farm work. Marina came home for the weekend, she hasn't been home for quite a few months. I am enjoying being home. Home sweet home. I want to plant some garden in the next few days. The beds are quite overgrown with buttercups, they look kind of nice, but away with them and in goes, first of all, lettuce. I love fresh salad through the summer. The house is looking winter-worn, hopefully the house and garden will look better the next time I post a photo.

Hi Team,

Deb, I bet you were loving the heat and sunshine at the yard sale yesterday. What a long day that was. Enjoy the last days of school. Our kids have two and a half weeks left. We have one more concert to enjoy, a dance recital, and several more softball games. The softball games go on for the month of June. It will be quiet around here when the school year is over.

I need to go update the exercise thread. Make it a great week!

Hi girls! I hope you're enjoying your weekend. I decided to go ahead and have another sale yesterday. Y'all know it starts as a normal sized yard sale, then ends up being huge. I set out fifteen tables Friday(just tables) then a few smaller sized ones. I got up Saturday morning at 5 and was finally ready by 8 am. I ended the sale at 4, but stragglers kept me out till quite a bit later, then was finished and items taken back to storage unit, and showered by 7 pm. It was long day because this one was just me except for hubby helping load items in the truck and going to the unit with me. It hit 90 degrees today, and of course, I sat out in it, wetting my hair every hour or so to cool off. Hubby was busy doing outdoor work for our neighbor all day so we are both tired, but relieved the hard day is over and summer is on its way. So glad to have clutter out of here. Now I have to reorganize our garage.

My husband was kind of funny this morning. Zelda sleeps in the spare bedroom with her pet taxi in it. I have all my Christmas in July decorations in there. He went to get Zelda up this morning, and he said, "Deb, I thought you got all this yard sale stuff out of here. You still have a whole room you didn't set out." I told him that was Christmas in July stuff.

I have three days of the bus this week. It feels so good to have a large sale behind me. I think I am done having them here for at least the summer...(famous last words, huh?) I wasn't able to pull everything out of the building since I was by myself yesterday. We have enough to have a huge one again between the building and the unit. I think Sue's daughter is planing on having the next one over her house.

Not a lot going on here now. I'm planning on doing a little straightening up between the house and the building. I think I will buy some boxes and repack some boxes. The kids during one sale packed them so heavy that the bottom is about to fall out and you can barely lift them. My only other plans are to sit on the couch and watch some old favorites.

Y'all be good.

Deb

This is Frosty...but don't worry, he'll be back again some day! I think I'm gonna change the snow. I see they have powder snow, although I have never used it. I will have to put him against a wall to prop a broom behind him. Not sure about the color tablecloth or if I will just have him on a bench. I also have a pair of rubber boots to sit beneath him. The setting still needs some work, but I'm having fun playing around with them all.

Monica, how insightful of your daughter to get one up on the customers and recognize the pattern. We need her at the hot dog stand.

We don't have any more events planned yet. We tried for one, but they were already full of vendors. Right now hubby is working on the lean to add on for the building, and I am prepping for a yard sale. We decided to wait until I am off for the summer to ask about any more. If events just popped up, we'd be open to them, but we aren't searching for them for another couple weeks. Yes, it is a lot of fun!! Hubby and I both learned a lot and enjoyed meeting new people. I also enjoyed the rush and felt like I was back at my Sonic days of my youth. :)

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Team,

Wishing everyone a Happy Mother's Day tomorrow. Enjoy the visit with your mom, Deb. I know the rest of family has planned to take me to a restaurant for supper tomorrow night. They are keeping the rest of the details a surprise.

That is a lot of yard sale items to process and store. I love how you all pitch in to pull off the yard sales and other fundraisers for the VIPs.

Today was a great day to catch up. I have meals planned and got to the grocery store to stock up for the week. Tonight we are having pork chops and mashed potatoes. A nice homestyle meal after several nights of fixing a quick sandwich or burrito. I do love this time of year with softball games, dance classes, and concerts for band and choir.

We worked the concession stands this week to fill in our volunteer requirements for the softball program. The games we worked were so cold. The association bought a Keurig for making hot chocolate and coffee in the concession stand. That was our top seller. Oldest DD took charge of it. She said it was pretty predictable that if one person came up to the window and ordered a hot drink, that 2 or more would follow. So then she would get a back-up waiting for each cycle to finish for one drink. Everyone understood and they were just happy to have something warm in their hands.

Deb, do you have any more events for your hot dog cart coming up? I bet you have a great time with that and meet all sorts of people.

Make it a great weekend!

Monica

Hi girls! Hope all is well with everyone. I enjoyed sleeping in this Saturday morning, sleeping until a few minutes after 8. Daniel woke up twice having to use the restroom...no IBS, just drank too much before bed, I guess. I'm now enjoying coffee and going to watch Lucky Dog in a bit before binge watching a favorite recorded show, then getting busy around the house.

This is our last full week of school coming up. It never seems real, but I will take it. Our last day will be the following Wednesday, 22. Looking forward to it because I am allowing myself to overthink things with Christmas in July, wondering if we will have time to set it all up before party time. Although I love this venue, one downside is that we can't get in the night before to decorate. Oh well, we've done it before, we'll do it again.

Have you ladies got anything special planned for Mother's Day? I will go visit my mom either today or tomorrow. She always says not to get her anything, but to spend it on the special kids.....She knows I will take a few kids out to eat or out for a Starbucks in her honor, but I will probably take her us all a meal and a little something...candle, rose, blouse...I don't know. As a mom, though, I do see where she's coming from.

Not much going on...we do have more yard sale items that people said they were getting ready for us. On Wednesday, I got a text from a fellow parent asking what I was doing that afternoon. He had boxed up 17 boxes for us after his sale, along with several odds and ends pieces that didn't go in the boxes. That was four loads in my car, taking all but the last load to the storage unit. We are now about 2/3 full at the unit. It is stacked, but at least his boxes were not too heavy and all the same size. It is not to the point where you open the door and stuff starts falling on you full. lol....I've told the other ladies there, that if both other donors come through at the same time and they have a good bit, we will need to have another sale....SOON! One thought I had and another suggested, too, was for two or three us have a sale the same day. We can each send them over to the other sale afterwards. That way it would not be so overwhelming for one sale, and it could be spread and spaced out so you can actually see what all you have. I like for my sales to be nice and neat and laid out appropriately, but when you get so much, it ends up looking cluttered and unorganized. I told my husband I would like to have one next weekend if the weather cooperates so I can get the items out of the building once and for all and begin putting all my Christmas in July items in there. He has a lot of stuff, too, but he is working on a lean-to on the outside so he can get his lawn mowers, tiller and other junk he works on for fun out so I will have more room to get it like I want it.

Not much going on here. I hope you're all enjoying life.

Have a wonderful Mother's Day, ladies! Enjoy your weekend.

Deb

Hi Team,

We have not set out the plants yet. I still have to wait a few more weeks since most of them want warm days and nights. It's been getting down near freezing most nights. So the basement garden continues!

I always enjoy the updates about the July Christmas party. Your theme of old-fashioned Christmas is coming together with all your "finds".

Make it a great week!

Hi girls!

Monica, sounds like tons of fun with your girls! Have you had time to set your garden out yet? We still have a few plants still setting in the containers under the carport in partial shade. Hopefully we will get around to planting all of them and also dragging the banana trees from under the house to plant. No, hubby didn't get around to that Saturday, although I stayed away a little longer to give him plenty of time to do it without me...lol We have got to hurry because it is starting to get hot during the day, and they will rot if you leave them too long. Not sure if it is the weather that kills them, or just that they only need so much time under the house since it is a pretty moderate temp there.??

We did have a great day for the walk. It sprinkled on the way home a bit, but did not rain on us there. It is a pretty hilly terrain, so we got a bit more of a workout than I do around here or even at the Special Kids Race in another town.

Not a lot going on....I have kept EBay and Amazon drivers busy with Christmas in July packages for decorations. I now have a Radio Flyer wagon that I will put my Raggedy Ann and Andy in, a tricycle, a basket of older Christmas Little Golden books, some vintage kitchen utensils, a percolator(with no cord) and I have ordered a vintage Maxwell House coffee tin. I've got some sterling silver looking pitchers in my curio cabinet that I will set out for creamers and sugar..just for decorations...I also bought a couple(partially hand made) quilts...I could go on...I think too much. lol I know I'm forgetting a lot, but I'm still shopping.. emoticon All the items so far have been personal purchases so I will get my money's worth and reuse them at home....I still have to buy more from Joy Center gofundme money set aside for that. The funny thing is that several years ago, you could have found the vintage items and retro look for next to nothing, but now that the Farm House decor has come back, everything is so expensive.

Ok, June, hope things are still going well. You are nearing the end of this adventure. Hope all has went pleasantly, and y'all have enjoyed your time together as a family.

Not much else planned here today. It's a gorgeous day today...summer like with highs in the upper 80s today. More storms rolling in Wednesday night, then temps will drop back closer to normal.

Well, y'all enjoy! Life is good.

Deb

Hi Team,

Deb, looks like you had a beautiful day for the 5K. Glad you had a walking buddy with you. We all know you would have made a new friend during the walk, if needed!

We had a fun day. Oldest DD and I worked the morning shift at the concession stand for the community park. It was neat to see the grounds busy with four baseball games and four soccer games running. Then I took youngest DD to a birthday party and then to the school carnival fundraiser. I also ran some errands and bought pepper plants and sweet potato plants to set out in the garden. Didn't think I would let a post go by without mentioning the garden, did you?

Make it a great weekend!

June, if you're missing one of your cows, he's in the creek bed in one of these photos! That was a first. lol....That's why I like these walks in the smaller towns.

Hey girls! Can't believe it is May already...the month schools let out, graduations begin and only a couple more mild Tennessee 'winters' or cold snaps to go before it is unofficially summer!!

Our walk went great today. Margaret couldn't go this time as she had a trip to Alabama planned with come church friends. Sue had a conflict with her daughter in law's graduation ceremony(college), and Alicia cancelled last night due to predicted severe storms for today. Valerie and I were the only two from our typical group that did this walk. As of now, they have held off, but should be rolling in any time. The weather forecasters change it by the hour, so originally they were coming earlier. Not sure of our time, but we crossed 50 minutes and some odd seconds after the start. They didn't do individual times and they weren't as accurate since the same time started for everyone regardless of where they were standing in the line. Valerie and I stayed in very back to start. We were somewhere in the middle by finish, so no one picking up cones behind us!! Little blessings. :)

June, I am assuming your trip is still going well, and no one has had a major meltdown or blowup. lol...It can get hard, day in, day out, in small spaces.

Monica, sounds like outdoor life is perking up a bit after a long winter. I love to see the kids play in our neighborhood, reminding us spring is here!!

Our last day of school is May 22! I'm ready, but again, will miss my check. Life is good, though. We can always find another hot dog event.

Y'all be good.

Deb

Sorry...forgot to upload pics from my phone first...will post some walk photos in separate post. It was a beautiful scenic route, along the dam where my dad used to work. Loved the hills and the water!
