Welcome back Lisa! I LOVE do-overs ... I think I'm on my third (fourth? fifth?) major do-over ... I constantly re-evaluate, re-focus and re-do my "plan".

I read once that you only fail if you quit trying ...

Goodness Gracious, Lisa,

How terrible that your husband actually died in your gym! I am so sorry for your loss. No wonder you are not going back to that place.

I think you are working on a lot of very sound plans to get yourself moving again, and I wish you the best with it.

I think everyone has repeated failures with weight, especially on our team. I know I've done that twice majorly. Once losing 65lbs then gaining 120. Second time I lost 40+ and put back on 20. This is third major challenge in weight loss for me and I've lost those 20 again. You can definitely pick up where you left off and accomplish anything you put your mind to. There are plenty of examples of that here on SparkPeople. Keep at it!

Thanks everyone! I am feeling really good about this. I even packed my lunch today - which for me, is real progress. Also, after talking with my friend yesterday about maybe joining her for one yoga and one water aerobics class, I've decided to join a gym that has 5 classes I will attend each week - 3 water and 2 weight/strength. These are right after work, so there will be no going home and then deciding to bail on it and sit on the couch instead. I'll just go straight there from the office.

I've been looking for a new gym that suits my needs for a while (yet not really looking if that makes sense). My husband actually died in the gym I WAS going to when I actually did work out so, well, I am definitely NOT going to that gym. I'm glad that I've found an alternative one that totally fits my schedule. First class will be tomorrow after work - better shave my legs - though with getting into a bathingsuit in public, a bit of fur should be the least of my worries!

Thanks for the support folks - I really appreciate it!

Lisa

You are definitely not alone in restarting. I do it almost every week!

The good thing is that you haven't given up on yourself.

Good luck!

"Has anyone else experienced such repeated failure?" Is the Pope Catholic? LOL!

You are definitely not alone! You made a good plan (goals) and I think that's one of the keys to sticking to it over a long period of time.

Hi Lisa, I'm another Lisa.

I am actually glad for you that the ranch isn't until May. That gives you time to work your physical capacity up to all of that exercise. I hope they don't work you quite as hard as I have seen on The Biggest Loseer. Some of that is downright sadistic and un-healthy, in my opinion.

I have also started over a LOT of times, and managed to gain back 60 lbs last year, in spite of a LOT of effort to try and stop the gain. My problem was that I wasn't taking care of the basics. Eat a reasonable diet, exercise as much as I can every day, and hang in there on the occasions that the scale doesn't co-operate with my efforts. My biggest problem was that I didn't stick with Sparkpeople and this team. My support system!

Lately, I have been losing an average of 3 lbs a week for a little over 2 months. During that time, I had a plateau that lasted for FOUR weeks! That's a whole month! It happened while I put on a lot of muscle from my workouts. I could feel my body changing, and I had to hang onto that since my graph on my wall of my weight was NOT going down!

There are times like that for everybody, and I am SO glad that you keep starting over when you fall off of the wagon! I know you CAN keep to your program after you see the doctor and feel like it isn't worth it. Your doctor must have a terrible "bedside manner" if he or she always leaves you feeling like that!

Best Wishes,
Lisa

Hi Lisa
emoticon I certainly can relate to your post about starting over. My excuse is every time I go to a doctor I get depressed and that is a perfect reason for me to binge - and I go to a lot of doctors. I have been reading posts on this team and can feel the motivation kicking in. It sounds like this time you are going to make it - emoticon your mind set is there and going to the ranch will certainly jump start your losing weigh. emoticon

Hi all - I'm back. Again. For the 348687656th time. Approximately.

Has anyone else experienced such repeated failure? I must have started (and crashed), well, I don't even KNOW how many times now. I start, I feel good, I read these boards like a crazy woman, soak it all in, and then BOOM. Done. Almost faster than I even started. And then I gain. And I gain. And I gain. Eventually I decide to start over again and then, much to my horror, the number on the scale is actually HIGHER than the last time I started.

Today I am at my heaviest ever I think (well, at least that I know of and have weighed in for).

Happily I have quit my job and am moving back to Canada next year. I am taking time off for ME and to work on getting myself on track to the life that I want (going back to university for a complete career change too). Last night I put my deposit down to attend Fitness Ridge (the Biggest Loser Ranch) for 8 weeks. Yep, 8 weeks. I can't get in until May 8th - they are booked that far in advance! I am hoping to get "reasonable" between now and then and to slim down somewhat and get at least a base level of fitness before I go. They work you out around 7 hours a day so, well, my butt will be KICKED in a huge way - which I need.

So I am taking steps. Again. The ranch is a pretty big financial commitment so I'm hoping that it helps kick me into gear - I want to get the most out of it. My friend was there in August and she said people were losing 25-30 lbs in 4 weeks. Imagine what I can do in 8? Kind of exciting. But I don't want to wait that long to get started. It is time to get that ball rolling now. Baby steps...I need to remember that I don't have to be perfect and that every little bit counts.

Thanks for listening and THIS time I hope to be sticking around for much, much longer.

Lisa
