I take a day off from counting calories every week and just eat sensibly on that day (usually on sundays) So this week it's just going to be on Thanksgiving instead. I plan to eat what I want within reason and no seconds. I'm also going to get in a good cardio workout in the morning and then take a walk after eating. It's at my inlaws house so I don't have control over the food, but atleast there won't be any leftovers. I'm also not going to beat myself up over that one day if I do fall off the wagon.

I don't consider this a break but I will be counting calories and will eat what I want but I plan on using portion control and a veggie tray to keep it within reason.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

After I found out pecan pie had 500 calories, the other night when I made one for friends coming over to supper, I can say, I am going to do the paper plate thing (Kid sized even), take a photo of the plate, since we are heading out to family's this year, so I can count those calories, and when we do ours, (husband has to work thanksgiving so we do our own on his day off that week) I am trying the healthier versions of our old favorites. Will I be under 1,500 calories? Maybe not, but I can say I wont be over 2,000 that day.

Also, really planning on adding in some extra cardio, and actually playing ball with the kids after dinner, which is something I normally sat and watched. This year, I am IN like Flynn!

I typically pig out on all holidays and special occasions. I'm still trying to learn that it's only food and it's not the last time that I'll ever have it. Since I'm cooking, I have control over the calories and fat of the meals. So I will start with using low fat/fat free foods to make the meal. That will automatically cut calories. Then I also plan to eat in moderation and not hurt myself like I normally do.

Doing what I have to do so that I can do what I want to do!

At first I was thinking I will just let myself pig-out. But then I started to realize this is the kind of thinking that gets me in to trouble, so I already have added up calories, and know exactly what I am going to eat and how much.

I'm going to count my calories just like it was any other day. We are going out to dinner so the temptations will be way less.

Good Question.. seeing this is my first Holiday of being on a healthy life style.. I am going to really try to eat healthy and use portion control, I leanrned this from a speak at a ww meeting, she said take a paper plate, draw on the plate your food.and the size that you are going to eat Turkey, mashpotatos stuffing, really visual. the size. potrion.. remember take your hand and make a fist.. that is a size of a 1/2 cup a deck of cards is a size of 3 oz of meat.. so I think that is how I am going to do Thanksgiving this year.

Anita

I am going to sample what I like but plan to stay in control and not get overstuffed as usual. I will also keep track and even if I go over my allotted calories I will record everthing that I eat!

I'm going to plan and count. I already have a request out to people who are bringing stuff to let me know the recipe so I can track things. I'm going to eat a filling breakfast and go for a walk before going to eat. At the meal, I'm responsible for veggie side dishes so I will fill up on a lot of those and eat sparingly of stuffing and pumpkin pie!

If I go a little over - at least I'll know by how much and I WILL NOT beat myself up for it.

Mmmmmm....looking forward to that meal!

It's going to be a day "off" for me - but in moderation especially with the pumpkin pie.

I'll be taking a "break" but in moderation. No eating until I feel like I've swallowed a baby kangaroo. Lucky for me, my aunt who handles dessert always brings WEIRD desserts (as in, no pumpkin pie), LOL. So there shouldn't be any temptation on that end. I'm on a low-carb diet so my pitfalls will be the mashed potatoes and gravy, yum. Again, moderation. It's just one meal, back on the plan once it's done. emoticon

Not going to take the day off, but not going to be so ridge.

I will eat what I want but be-aware of the size of the portion and no seconds!!

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.

Are you going to count calories on Thanksgiving, or is it going to be a "day off?"

FOr me, I know that the Day Off mentality comes from dieting instead of from a healthy lifestyle point of view, but I can't help it! I take the day off, and eat whatever yummy, unhealthy things that are around.

One good thing, though, is that I never eat till it hurts anymore. That has been a permanent lifestyle change for me. I also like to nibble on a vegetable tray during the day instead of cheese balls and the like.
