B4428.....

First of all, I so hope you have a nice time this evening, and can enjoy yourself.

Secondly, I am so fascinated with all the helpful suggestions you have gotten.

Sometimes being on Sparks is like living in my old neighborhood, where if something
happened or someone had trouble people poured out of nowhere to pitch in and
help make things work, or comfort or whatever.

Thanks for such a nice question!!!

Love and prayers, Happy Valentine's Day! And to everyone that was so helpful!

Some Chinese restaurants allow you to order a half order of appetizers. Ask your order taker if you can order 1/2 an order of Crab Rangoon.

Broccoli beef is a pretty good choice. You could always ask for an additional side of broccoli if you like. Some restaurants are starting to serve steamed brown rice, too, instead of fried rice or white rice.

Personally, I like General Tso's with steamed rice... Haven't had it in forever and it sounds soooo good right now!

I like General Tao's but had to give chinese up because of the high sodium content. Just not worth it to me. emoticon emoticon

Yeah, it would all be a pretty bad thing for that condition for sure.

No, I am not a Chinese food eater.....which is probably best because of the sodium,
and I have lymphedema (severe fluid retention). You all were making me hungry for
it though, and it does sound good. :-)

Thanks for sharing!

Oh lord, you haven't lived if you haven't tried them. THey a cream cheese and crab meat blended and wrapped in a fried wonton thing that is to die for... (well, the old me would kill for them anyway, lol).

Okay, you guys, you have me curious - what is a crab rangoon? What makes them
so good?

Personally, I allow myself some exceptions. For me personally, I allow myself to go out for Chinese with my mom once every 2-3 months. I know that there aren't particularly "healthy" options, but I do not over indulge like I would have in the past and I eat more veggies than I used to. I take my leftovers to DH.

Broccoli beef sounds like it should be ok, and then just have 1-2 of the crab rangoons (one of my faves).

I agree with Tami....although I know nothing about Chinese food, you could look up
some things ahead of time so you know what is worse than others. But what you
are doing is for a lifetime, not just a diet so there will be exceptions. Don't over do,
but enjoy, what treasured memories. A very happy valentine's day to both of you~~~

Ah, probably none of that is really going to be a great thing for weight loss, but sometimes you just have to go with it. If it is something you can do just once like that, for a special occasion, not get carried away (eating the whole box of crab Rangoon (yeah wow I'd have a hard time with that)), then there's no real harm in allowing it within reason. Pick the foods you love, eat a small amount, and celebrate those special memories.

I bet there are some on here that would be surprised to hear me say that, but I'm not really as unreasonable as I seem sometimes. I know 'me'. I know that I would not likely be able to eat just ONE crab meat Rangoon... I'd eat a plateful. I know that the heavy sauces of most dishes would make me have a hard time regaining control afterwards. It isn't about the one meal 'per say' for me, it's about losing control afterwards, so I am much tougher on myself.

If you can do it and not lose control, there are some special times worth a little 'cheat'.

I have already had the discussion with my husband that no candy is to be bought!!!! However once upon a time there were two kids trying to make it in the adult world in their first apartment with a twin bed in the living room for a couch. He saved his money and on valentines day they ordered Chinese food and have held that tradition for the last 16 years...the Chinese take out not the having to save money for it. So what is the best option for me? I dont eat chicken or pork...normally I get broccoli beef and we always get crab rangoon which is going to kill me..ill have just one! So favorite dishes?? Suggestions?
