Lucina of Sweden is very likely the inspiration for St. Lucy. Her name means light. She embodies kindness, charity, health, and protection. She is a mother goddess, offering guardianship and well-being. She particularly protects against throat infections.

Lucina is often represented as a single candle.

To honor Lucina have a healthy breakfast that includes a warm drink such as coffee or tea, and saffron and ginger cookies. Saffron is for healing, ginger is for success, and the warm beverage is for energy. Then light a candle to chase away the winter blues, go hunting for holiday light displays, keep moonstone and tigers eye in your pocket, or go visit an elder (and share those cookies).

Information is taken from Goddess 365.

For further reading on how Lucina was adopted by the Greeks and Romans check out Journeying to the goddess's blog.
