Happy New Year group! Since I am in my 70s, it is hard to believe that another decade has passed. Didn't get much sleep due to the neighbors shooting off fireworks into the wee hours of the morning. Our dog is terrified of the noise, so had to comfort him and keep him calm. Nice day today with sunshine -- not as warm, however. Got to spend a day with our granddaughter. We went to Walmart and got some after-Christmas sale items and groceries. She watched some of her Disney programs and a cartoon series via DVD that she and one of her friends likes. Went to my favorite consignment shop close to where she lives and got a few new blouses to go under sweaters (average cost is only about $9 each). Got a few items for my niece and nephew who live near Medford, Oregon -- Lily likes to send her cousins surprise boxes. My sister and the children's mother knit Lily a beautiful cap with some very nice yarn and some fingerless mittens. They are beautiful creations. I have never been able to knit or crochet -- just don't have the patience. Our grandmothers were great knitters. I do appreciate the time and energy it takes to create such nice items. My claim to fame is doing "fairy gardens" -- just combos of tiny plants and tiny figures. They last on a porch for awhile -- they seem to draw the interest of squirrels, however. Yesterday, I walked over to a neighbor's house where three boys live and asked if they wanted my husband's bike. He is too weak and too sick to use it anymore -- it is in fairly good shape and they can use it just to give their dog some exercise. We live on a gravel road -- they live on a paved road. One boy named Kyle took it and said he would use it for exercise. Hope you have new plans and goals for the new year -- will set up our chatting place and list some books that you may like. Cheers!

Mary Alice, I found a great tutorial on one made with tee shirt strips. It was a four part braid. She also demonstrated the double button hole method of attaching strips. So I know what you are talking about. I won't try crocheting one till I can get a decent coaster crocheted with yarn. I love rag rugs and agree that the sheet ones are the most luxurious on the feet.

Lennie, Glad you were able to spend so much time with loved ones.

Buds and I have a four day plan to hike the stairs. It is .83 miles and we went up three flights of stairs then down a hill and up again and then down five flights of stairs. Last we slowly walked uphill to the car again. My legs are jello. However the back and hip felt great.

Had a pedicure today and it was wonderful. Knocked the pain out of both the back and hip. No polish, so she spent extra time massaging my feet. That was an added bonus. She used hot rocks too.

Cathy, the sheets are torn into 1 inch strips, the ends of the strips are held together with what mom and I call a double button hole then they wound into a ball and crocheted. Use a big hook and a simple pattern. Even with a big hook it can be hard on the hands.

Belated Christmas greetings -- Christmas has come and gone. We were at my husband's chemotherapy session for half of the day on Christmas eve. Had breakfast with our 12 year old granddaughter and her parents and other Grandmother. We exchange presents and then go home. My husband didn't feel very well, so we skipped Christmas dinner. Tonight I made him a baked game hen and some sides. Most of our town was closed today, so just grocery shopped and mailed a couple of "thank you" notes. My brother from Hawaii still sends gifts, including a calendar each year. My sister from S. Oregon makes most of her gifts and had knitted our GD a beautiful cap with all her favorite colors. The young niece and nephew painted me a tiny trio of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus on wooden pieces. We talked to our son in Florida and also our son in California. Today was mostly yard clean-up and I finished a Christmas movie that I had started a few days ago. Monday our granddaughter will keep us company while her parents work. We had sunshine and temps into the 70s today -- more rain coming this week-end. Haven't dried out yet from the 3.5 inches we got this week. Nice reading about your celebrations. We will keep our artificial tree up until New Year's Day and all my various displays (snowmen, Santas, creches, cards, and Jim Shore figures). We don't go to parties, so New Year's will come in quietly. Did give our neighbor some cookies for his dog and a sweater for when it gets cold again and some fruit/snacks for him. He didn't do any decorating -- he works as a mechanic and then comes home to work on the re-modeling inside his house. Mostly he goes out to eat somewhere in town. Take care/hug those dogs!

Wow, that is pretty cool. I have tried to make rag rugs, but have never succeeded. I was also braiding and trying to sew them together. Thread no sturdy enough to hold up, but that was in the 70s and 80s before you tube tutorials. I might try again.

I have spent the day cleaning and eyeballing what I want to start taking down. Thanksgiving I start putting out decorations and keep adding till Christmas and then after Christmas I start removing them all. I usually leave the main tree up till New Years and then take it down the next day. The wreath my SIL makes stays till it dries up outside. They last a long time in the damp and cold weather. The thing is, I want to add some more decorations rather than take any down. I haven't found Mom's beaded ornaments yet and I still want to put out my Hawaiian Santas. LOL. I guess I can do whatever I want. Buds won't mind.

Cathy, Mom and I both make rag rugs out of old tee shirts. I'm just learning but mom has won awards in both rug making and recycled crafts. I also make rugs out of old bed sheets and other large pieces of material. You don't mind that there is a stain or tear, nope I'm just going to cut it into 1 inch strips. Get tee shirts faster then I can weave them. When Grandma was in the nursing home with Alzheimer's, she knit stipes of left over yarn 10 stiches across. Mom took the strips, braded them and made them into rugs. Grandma won awards in awards in recycling and crafts by the mentality challenged. Grandma was very proud of her rugs, She passed 10 years ago and Mom still uses those rugs.

Love your nature decorations. I have recycled Christmas paper and wrap all my life, but I think I will try fabric wrap next year from fun fabrics found at the thrift store. I like that idea. I might also switch to knitting cotton string for decorating packages.. That should also help the landfills.

Planning to meet with GD at DD tomorrow at 1. That will be nice.

We have holidays when my daughter can. She is a charge nurse for ICU at the hospital the subs in Trauma ICU. This Year Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and her youngest Birthday are all New Years. Helps with the diet and Christmas decorations are what nature provides. The woods are 1/4 cypress, a cross the street the road is lined with cypress, the hedge between our house and our neighbors is dark green with red berries, the frost glistens in the morning sun.

I lost three pounds due to the evening documenting. Had a great party at TOPS. Came home and binged on sugary things. I have stopped now. Thank goodness. Will juice tomorrow to get my sugar balanced again. I also have quite a git of leftover smoked salmon and salad makings. So I should be good to go the next few days. Tomorrow, I have Christmas Eve service at church and need to finish wrapping Buddy's presents. He does love opening them. I need to figure out when I am going to see my daughter. Rather than stay home, I will probably make an effort to see both my kids.

Greetings Team -- Saturday afternoon in our part of the country. Yesterday we got 2 inches of rain and it stayed in the 40s. Today it is sunny, windy, and up to the 60s. I did get my Medicare appointment done and found a new artificial tree to decorate for the front room table. Have also send some gifts to family members via online shopping. Have even put out some Christmas decorations and flags. Dogs have been a big part of my life lately. We got new neighbors who have 5 boys and 4 dogs. Two of the dogs (small ones) get out almost every day and come looking for our dog and then wander and run all over the place, including near the road. So, I have to go get one of the boys to help me get them home. Had noticed a new beautiful white dog down our road in a yard that used to have two huge (overweight dogs) that I hadn't seen for a long time. Also saw a small dog wandering around the field where we take yard debris. I followed it home and it lives with the white dog. The man's wife was dying of lung/brain cancer and the large dogs both had died. She got the small dog from a rescue and purchased the white dog (an Italian breed) from someone who raises them locally so her husband would not be alone. That made me cry -- she died two weeks ago. No one knew them very well because they both were in their 50s and worked full-time. Spent awhile talking to the husband and telling him about our cancer situation. Saw the neighbor who got bit by our across-the-road pit bull mix. She is still angry about that dog. Bella is so kind and gentle, it is difficult to believe that she just attacked the lady without some form of aggression from the person. Can't get involved with all these situations, but I do listen to both sides. Glad that you guys are posting some comments and concentrating on your health and welfare of your pets. I got my exercise chasing dogs today. Cheers and blessings...

It is cold and dark and with the lost weight I am cold all the time. I have invested in sweaters and warm vests because I don't need the fat to keep me warm.

Health Coach recommended I only track the food I eat after 5PM. I really like that. Think I am doing better this week and not feeling resentful of all the tracking.

Buds is still hanging in there. He is not as active, but seems to feel good and act happy.

Because of my health issues, I moved from just south of Houston TX to Horseshoe Bend AR this year. What a difference. Not just the terrain and climate but my health. Best thing I could have done. OK moving from a town right outside of a city of 5 million to a town of 2500 and the largest city in 50 miles has been an adjustment. You don't just run to the store. I now live 50 miles from Mom. She lives in one of those big cities. It has 13,000 people. Heck all of AR has 2 million people. Before you get worried, my Dr is 15 miles away and the Emergency ER with ambulance service to the hospitals 50 miles away and life flight to the 3 big hospitals 350 miles away is only 10 miles from the house. What am I doing for the holiday, well mom is going on a senior trip, so I'll do the chamber things. Heck I work there anyway.

Ho, ho, ho -- off we go into the last month of 2019. I did not do any shopping on "Black Friday", nor did I put up my artificial Christmas tree, or remove all of my autumn-themed yard decorations. Maybe around the 10th of this month I will get "in the mood". Meanwhile, still have leftovers from Thanksgiving, housework that never gets done, yard work that no one else will do, and medical appointments that I need to do and dental cleaning. The year has just zipped by with my husband's care and his decline due to the lung cancer and advanced lung disease from COPD. His sister is off in Costa Rica hiking and exploring with her boyfriend of about 12 years -- they seem not to have any health problems that "slow them down". Wishing you some special moments with special people and joy in the season, whatever the weather. Share what you are doing, suggest some healthy holiday foods, keep the "spirit" alive...
