I would also like to thank the 'Goodie Giver.' Splash and I are doing fine...........the weather has not been decent for the last few days, so she is missing her walks, but I am getting on the treadmill. Tuesday was our last outdoor walk, wwe did just over 7 miles.

The Iditawalk ended yesterday, she completed the minutes over 2 and a half times, with me at over 5 times. Those were my goals for us this year. In November I set a goal to walk daily, and I am pleased to announce that I now have a 121 day stread, 4 months of walking every day. I do outdoors wioth Splash when I can, other days are the treadmill, and on rare occasions, it is Leslie Sansone. Happy walking and wagging to all!

Just wanted to say thanks to Walkzwdogz for sending me a Sparks Goodie and getting me re-interested in the group. I have been struggling trying to get a healthier life style going and think a good support team would help. I've mostly been on the dog agility group but it is a small and not very active group. It looks like you all really have a great group going here so, if you don't mind, I think I will look to you all for help and inspiration.

Walkzwdogz, you are so right about someone sending us the dog we need. About 10 years ago, I was in your same position. For the first time in my life, I was without a dog or a horse. It took about a year before I thought I might be able to get a dog again but, on my way to look at a puppy, I was chickening out. When I got there, the dog I was supposed to see was not there and I wound up looking at a different one. She melted my heart instantly and we took her home. As it turned out, she was the exact dog I needed. She was difficult to train and so she forced me to learn different methods of training. I took her to an obedience class and it got me into the local dog training club. That local dog training club got me interested in agility and agility has become a passion for me. (Passion--Addition--same thing!) emoticon Now, my 3 Corgi kids are what are finally motivating me to get healthier. My weight is holding them back on the agility field and I realize that it is making me old before my time.

So, excuse the long post but I am looking forward to getting re-involved with the group.

Nancy

It's so cute when they make their own toys! At least it's something harmless & not a sofa cushion or anything. Puppies can think every new item in the world is a toy! Get pictures!

And yeah, somehow someone/something up there sends me the perfect dog for me. I'd lost my previous Basset at 14 & swore I wouldn't get another, wasn't going through it all again, hurt too much--you probably know that scene. I hadn't been dogless since '78 & was frankly desolate. 3 months later, I was looking for an aquarium stand & saw this ad where someone was giving away their Basset 'cause they were getting a new Christmas puppy. emoticon Um...what can I say? Enter Maestro! He truly an answer to prayer.

Say, SHARJOPAUL! Congratulations on all that mileage. You're an inspiration! So glad Dora is feeling better!

Doradog hurt her right front leg Saturday afternoon. Poor girl was limping bad. So we took it very easy on Sunday. She was much better Monday. Maybe threatening her with a trip to the vet made her decide she better get well fast. Today we walked a 1/2 a mile with her hardly limping at the end of it. By the end of the week we should be able to do our long walks again.

Ha! You're right. We're dog people; we CAN do this! Here, bunny, bunny, bunny....!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm feeling a bit silly about putting off the Sparkpage so long. Spark is as close as I've come to social networking. I've been on e-mail dog lists for years, but I don't blog, do Facebook. Twitter...gee, I sound like a Luddite! Well, I'm also on dial-up, so I guess am!

Add to that being kind of shy & getting up the nerve to try it took a while. I thought it would be harder! Funny how things we can sort of dread turn out to be easy & even fun! sigh...
Talk about needing to step outside my comfort zone! emoticon

I can get remarkably anxious about the darnest things. Maybe that's why I'm drawn to very laid back, perma-happy dogs? My Basset is totally unflappable except for vacuum cleaners! He'll never forgive me if I let that bunny get away...

and coffee is not an addiction. It is a necessary nutrient with antioxidants emoticon . Chocolate too!

Well 1) there is NO such thing as too much coffee.

2) As for me, I hit my 6 month Sparkiversary so finally did a Sparkpage (blush!) My dogs are heartily sick of the rain. I got in some walking but at this rate, that Easter Bunny may just win!

Green shoots & compost are making me so ready for Spring. Keep talking flowers, please! I miss a garden. And sunshine! Our surrounding foothills have snow. And this is Oregon. I want to be planting peas at least.

Daffodils are out & gorgeous though & such a sunny break in all the gray. I got a bit of a walk in yesterday between rain & hail storms. Spring, come soon!

I had a smoothie with kale & spinach in w/the fruit. Tastes better than it looks, but a nice, bright green. The dogs got a taste & would have happily lapped up the whole thing.

I wonder if kale smoothies will counter-balance that weekend pizza???? neh, probably not!

70's huh? Send some of that to Oregon, please! The wind & rain are getting really old fast. I talked to the power company when my internet & everything went down. (I'm on local rural dial-up.) They had 12,000 out of power, with most of 'em back on but 3000 more new ones. Portland was worse.

I'd gone over to friends who still had power to get a shower & watch the news. Naturally, a limb went down & took out theirs too. We got a take-out pizza since cooking was out. That is not going to help the bunny-chasing diet, but it was fun & easy. sigh... I'm proud of me. I kept it to one piece!

I was in serious computer withdrawl! How has everybody been? I'm playing catch-up.

We got in lots of walking with the dogs yesterday and today. The weather was perfect and the ice is melting on the river so Piper got in and swam. So glad we got out of our house a bunch!

I used to love to Volksmarch when we were stationed in Germany years ago. The Volkswalk sounds great!

Good job! It's windy here but finally sunny with (mostly) blue skies. Yesterday & the day before, I actually got back to walking. I seem to be a weather wimp. SO looking forward to Spring. At least I got in 3 miles yesterday.

There's a lovely Volkswalk this weekend at a nearby daffodil festival that I'd hoped to do. I did it years ago when I was younger & much thinner. Hope to get fit enough to do 'em again. Baby steps, I guess.

I hope to get a walk in today too, but I seem glued to the news, feeling helpless. Japan needs our prayers and so much more.

Wellllllll, since you mention Basset prey-drive or the lack there-of....

My Basset actually thinks every person & animal is a friend he hasn't met yet. If he sees a field mouse, he just glances & wags at it, then goes back to sniffing out it's hole. He's not interested in the hunt, just the smells. emoticon He let my 22 year old cat sleep on him for years before she went to the Rainbow Bridge. If he ever caught a bunny, he'd probably just wash those ears!

Yep. I may be doomed too! We can try, right? Maybe lure it closer?

Well, you have company. I'd lost a pound, but Costco has this sourdough bread demo, see, & I succumbed since it's fat-free but the butter I put on it wasn't, and well, the loaf didn't last very long, and...and... emoticon emoticon

At least I'm back exercising more! I did get in some strength training that I often neglect. Maybe if I can't get close to the bunny, I can at least lasso the little blighter?

"Mishaps are like knives that either serve or cut us as we grasp them by the blade or handle." -- James Russell Lowell

In other words, when life hands you lemons, you can either be sour or make limonade!

Splash and I drove into town yesterday to walk on the pavements instead of the roads. For some reason, my pace is always slower when I walk in town, I guess it's all those traffic lights. We still got in over 5 miles, and I actually saw some flowers! blooming! We even passed a pay phone, talk about a blast from the past! She is such a trooper....I do have a sweater and some coats I made her,, and will 'dress' her if it is below freezing......we both love to walk. Is anybody doing the Iditawalk with their dogs? This is my 3rd year, her second.

I love quotes...........I try to find a different one every day and post on my teams.

Dora dog has my sympathy, but I confess to being a weather wimp myself. Mercifully, so is my Basset! My little Cavaliers don't mind the weather; it's exercise they aren't that fond of! I'll tell them about Dora's accomplishments. Maybe we can get inpired!

Speaking of inspired, I am SO enjoying the quotations. Thanks for sharing, Pedal-Pusher!

"You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime." -- Dale Carnegie

I love the last line in this quote.it is so true! I woke up tody to see a fresh coat of snow. I could hear the rain hit the roof as I fell asleep last night, ig must have changed after midnight, but the sun is shining, it won't last long, but more in the forecast for Wednesday.

Arf Arf!
Dora dog is not happy this morning, since the temps dropped last night I was a woose and only walked about 3/4 of a mile this AM. Guess we will take our long walk this afternoon when it is supposed to be near 40.
