Hi Everyone. Just checking in as it has been a busy day. I cleaned the kitchen and did a mountain worth of laundry. How two people can make so much laundry is a mystery to me. Yie, yie, yie.

Thiry, your time with your family sounded like a wonderful "walk down memory lane". How wonderful for you!!

Kelly, Sarasota? Wow! We are in a cold spell but no snow - thank goodness. We did have a spot of snow last week but it was gone by morning as it warmed up through the night.

Barb and Sharon, Christmas decorating? I am totally impressed. I will do good to get my little artificial tree up by the time Christmas gets here. I will get out my Nativity Sets this week. They usually go up first. We have always had real trees until recently when it just seemed "too much" so we downsized to the small artificial. It is still a lovely tree and it works.
I will get a live wreath for the door.

We are off to Columbia Mo tomorrow to see the orthopedist for my semi annual Synvisc 1 shot. I really like this doctor and they are rated 7 nationally so can't beat that locally. I may eventually change to a doctor locally if it gets where we can't make the 2 hour trips. For now, it is OK. It will be a nice day out for us.

I am having problems with edema so doc ordered a diuretic and a potassium supplement. She thinks I may be having some Congestive Heart Failure. I will see her again this week and maybe set up an echo. Ugh... When it rains... It is what it is. I will keep you all posted.

I love you all.

BTW, Send some of that Cranberry wine on over.

Kelly: Yup . . .. Hableman's is popular around here. We have a winery here (yup . . . here in our little town!) For the holidays, they produce a cranberry wine (Cedar Creek Winery) So good. Here's a link

Barb, it is Habelman's (went through duck go), must have thought of something else new to me that came from Kwhatever city. I let publix know how much I liked them and looking forward to Christmas; I'm not the only one who hasrequested they carry it more often.

We've done live trees, even ones to plant afterwards, I could do it because we didn't put it up until very close to Christmas (mostly because of allergies), and I don't start to decorate early on, just the way it's been done and I don't take anything down until 6 Jan (except when we had a live tree). Always have a live wreath or swag though.

Sharon is that Thanksgiving book an older one, it seems like the kids had something like that. So happy you got to spend time with them. I am sure it helps with their being so far from home.

Sunny looks like you both had a giving weekend, good you are giving yourself permission to nap!

Thiry you had a busy and productive weekend! Luv what you all are doing to preserve those memories.

Well, we had a snow spit this morning, will go into the 20s overnight so might be a bit icy in the am. Hopefully the roads dried enough today. This is usually what Thanksgiving weekend looked like in Saratoga, 1969.

I'm tempted to do the self clean cycle tomorrow because it'll be colder during the day, I usually do it before thanksgiving but figured I could get away with it since I wasn't doing a big bird. Heck I use it for long bakes so seldom I think they think I may have accidentally turned it on.

I'm thinking it might be time for sumthin hot cocoa.

Not much around here, enjoy your decorating, I always love hearing what everyone is doing; just not into going overboard.

Hugs and Prayers!

Kelly

Sharon: Is there such a thing as being Ďrelaxed outí! I think I finally caught up on my relaxation!

Today is Christmas tree day here, too. YEAH! YES! Thatís the pattern I found w/real trees, too. Spring and Fall were just gangbusters w/the pollinating of the pines.

I tackled the stove yesterday, and today . . . the OVEN, Mt. Greasemore! UgH Well, it's really not THAT bad, but needs a thorough cleaning.

It's the start of another week - Happy Monday!

Hope Jas' PT goes well today! Hope you both got to relax a little over the weekend, too.

Putting up the Christmas tree - emoticon ! I agree with you, Barb. I think I am the same; in the instances we've had a live tree, and there were several, I would always be stuffy and have sinus problems. Paying further attention to my body, I have determined when my sinuses act up, it's usually when the pines are active pollinating and such - in the spring, and then again in the Fall. As much as I would love to have a live tree, they are nearly cost prohibitive around here. Last time we bought one, and it was many years ago, it cost us $75 for a 6 ft tree. I can't even begin to imagine what they are going for now.

Just finished doing a deep, thorough cleaning of my stove. Took me well over an hour! Next will be the kitchen exhaust fan. Maybe today - maybe not.

I hope the rest of you gals enjoyed a nice weekend with friends and family - if you were able.

Enjoy your afternoon, and I'll see you later for happy hour. TTFN!

Sounds like you all had a good Thanksgiving and weekend. I have been busy as Friday morning I was getting things finished up, litter boxes and bathroom cleaned, cats fed, shower and packing my clothes, DH clothes as he told me before going to bed Thursday night he would let me get his stuff and told me what he wanted, packing the food we were taking and getting the car loaded. We got to my sisters about 3:30 so had a good amount of time to do things Friday evening. She and I ran into town to get our supper from my favorite Mexican restaurant. After supper and cleaning up we started working on a scrap book for grandma. We took the loose cards from the funeral book, pictures, typed funeral service, death certificate and a few other little ty things and put the scrapbook together.

Yesterday my brother and sister went through mom's recipe book, the recipes I copied from moms notebook, the recipes I've gotten from the 50 state card/recipe exchange and some recipes I've found saved because we liked them. Then after a late lunch we started going through books and stuff on the Steinkraus family history that my sister got from moms. We sorted the stuff we kept, some pictures were of people and things we didn't know so tossed them. We made envelopes to put the remaining stuff in until it can be worked into the family history binders.

Today we went through pictures she found on jump drives, deleted the ones she didn't want and printed the rest for her to sort and put in the family history books. After we finished that we went to the cemetery to put flowers on the family graves. When we got back we packed the car and are now on our way home making a stop in David City to put flowers on the graves there.

More later.

Sunny, sounds like a very nice day! How wonderful you did the angel tree and had the dedication for your pastor's son. I'll bet you're tuckered out and need a nap! Sweet dreams!

Barb, thanks for the additional info on the cranberries from Wisconsin. Haven't seen or heard of those bands here, but Northland I have heard of. So I will keep a look-out!

I just posted my throw together breakfast casserole for this morning. It turned out surprisingly well!
Our DGD read us the book we sent them for Thanksgiving titled "Turkey Trouble". Cute book about a turkey who didn't want to end up as the main course on the Thanksgiving table. He dresses up as different farm animals to try to disguise himself. Great colorful illustrations, too!
Just finished FT with our little ones, and I read them a Christmas story. They are going to put up and decorate their Christmas tree, and hopefully, will call again later to show us the finished tree!

That's about it from here. Hope you ladies enjoy the rest of your afternoon and evening.
I hear a cocktail faintly calling my name . . . emoticon

I just put Evan Williams on my list. We get it every year but thinking I should get some early just for me....hehehe

I will be looking for the soup recipe. We had a deep-fried Turkey and Brian (son) did a nice job on it. It was yummy. That and all the trimmings made for a very nice meal. Rich and I went to Springfield yesterday and it was sure a nice trip. We enjoyed seeing and spending time with Joshua and meeting Zoe. She is sure a sweetie.

I did get out and go to Church today but I had to take the Angels in for the Angel Tree and also Rich and I did the dedication for our Pastor's new son. They have not been able to do the dedication due to Covid so we did it this morning. I wore and mask and Rich and I actually stayed downstairs in the sanctuary instead of going up to the balcony. It has been a good day.

Take care - I am off to take a nap. Love you all, Sunny

These weren't Northland. all I remember seeing is the city started with a K. I buy Northland juice often so I am guessing it is the same company.

I've used spirited nog for french toast, even breakfast casserole , I'd rather drink it later.. But I did have cranberry pecan bread (from my fav bakery) french toast with cranberry sauce this morning.

We were talking about beer can poultry. Of course an oil can Fosters will support even a 12-14 pounder, fits in both a regular oven, weber or if you can remove the top rack a grill. Sit it in a regular pan with side handles if doing a bird that big, it is easier and safer. I know an experienced cook that put theirs in a disposable pan, good thing he had heavy gloves it would have been a disaster, sometimes we need to remind ourselves no clean up is not always wise.

I was thinking yesterday that I bet you two are happy you did not put off your trip to Alaska last year. I'm mad at myself for not going to NY for New Years last year guess that's what made me think of it.

It was a mad house at the grocer Wednesday with folks picking up their dinner orders, seemed more popular than ever. I think it is a great idea to give the cook a true day off.

It's a bit chilly right now, going into the 20s tonight a chance of mix sometime early this week. So I hope Jas does get out for awhile today. Not much going on today, still in my flannel jammies, have brushed my teeth and hair.

Hugs and Prayers to our military, first responders and their families.

Sharon: Oh my! Egg Nog is such a good 'bath' for french toast! Delicious.

John is a little more rested, but now gearing up for the Christmas p/u and take out menu. Think that's what we're going to do this Christmas.

Clara is doing well. STILL has bouts of shortness of breath w/exertion, but she says it seems less than it was. That's good news.

Enjoying sunshine. Going to get Jason OUTSIDE for fresh air and some Vit. D. Just what the Dr. ordered. (Or Nurse Ratchet!)

Good Sunday morning, ladies!

Well, we had our first frost last night so it's finally turning seasonal here. I'm sorry, but December should be cold, and snowy, for Christmas! Loved being up in AK last year for it! Perfect Christmas storybook scenery, and weather!

Relaxing with my coffee before I fix brunch a little later. Not sure what I'm fixing, but will most likely be eggs and leftover sausage that didn't go into the stuffing. Maybe a breakfast casserole with some added veggies, and cheese, and herbs. We'll see how ambitious I'm feeling when the time comes. . . LOL! Hey, Kelly, why not use some of that luscious egg nog to make French Toast for breakfast with some cranberry topping?!

Hoping the kids call today. . .

How's Jas and Clara this morning, Barb? Hope they are both feeling much better.

I hope the rest of you gals are enjoying your Sunday morning as well.

Will catch y'all later!

Quick drive-by. . .

Got busy today taking down Fall and Thanksgiving, and getting everything packed up so we can put it in the attic and then begin bringing down Christmas. Not much else going on, and it felt good to relax.

Thanks for divulging the name of your favorite cranberries, Barb. I'll have to make it a point to look for them. Thanks, too, for posting your soup recipe. I'll take a look later.

Kelly, thanks for the info on the nog. I have seen that. I usually buy Hood or Turkey Hill in the grocery store. They are not bad and I doctor them up. I may have to give the Evan Williams a try. Drinking his black label bourbon now in our cranberry sours. I also like the 1783 from that distiller as well. Favorite is Makers, but it's gotten too expensive so we've "downsized".

Did Rana Butternut Squash Ravioli with a Sage Butter Sauce for dinner tonight. Really tasty.

Well, that's about it from here. ladies. Sleep tight, and sweet dreams everyone.
See you tomorrow!

There are many cranberry bogs here in WI. The best cranberries I know of come from Northland. There are a few more brands, too, but that's the one I use.

Grandmas are like that, you never know what they are going to let you get away with but it usually involves sweets.

I noticed that I said potato cubes, should have added bread cubes. Never the less, if it's my only choice again, I will skip it. Think even stove top would have been better. I threw the cranberry bag out because I was sure I'd remember the name...should have known better. The egg nog is Evan Williams, has bourbon, whiskey, run and brandy so an extra shot was not needed even though it is 15% alcohol it has enough without adding anything, thought about a bit more brandy though.

My GG book is paperback, c1969. I have a few of Ina's recipes saved on the food network site, along with Sarah Moulton, Alton, Tyler and Rachael. Hmmm Ihaven't looked there in a long time. Wonder if my password still works?

I will tell you, it was different living there for the 4 months we did. It was an efficiency apartment over a 3 car garage, not really insulated, oil heated with one large grate in the middle of the floor. We found out that martinis or other booze does not keep you warm . They would hold car races on the lake, fun to watch. Also ice fishing which we learned early on to make sure our pup was securely leashed outside. He got out, ran around the ice holes stealing their fish bringing them up to us! John ran around dropping fish everywhere. Yikes, we found out it was a fishing contest. You are right Sharon, it was beautiful up there, lotsa snow.

Sunny today, enjoyed it. Not much else going on around here so everyone enjoy the evening and have a great Sunday.

Hugs and prayers.

Kelly

Hey ladies. . . Time for bed check and lights out. . .

Yes, I remember Fiddle Faddle, too, and only had it a couple of times because it was "expensive". It was good, though. My grandmother always had miniature Resses Peanut Butter cups in her china cabinet, and right there on the center main base within easy reach of "little sneaky hands". . . She would never offer them, but I never "got caught" or spoken to after sneaking a few here and there. Ahhh . . . childhood memories - like your grandma's soup, Barb. Post your recipe, please . . . sounds like it's tried and true!
Glad Clara is planning on catching up on her sleep this weekend, and she'll eat good, too!

Thanks for the toast Kelly. I agree - we had a "get together plan" in the works only to be taken down by this virus! OK, I have to ask, what bottled Egg Nog are you raving about?
Glad to read your dinner turned out good in spite of the diced potatoes. You are so right about those pop-up timers - "Turkey 101 for Dummies". Would a turkey on a beer can fit anywhere?! You'd probably need at least a pint sized can - maybe one of those big Fosters cans! Oh what brand of cranberries hails from Wisconsin? Barb, I may just have to put in my order for a few pounds next year! Kelly, the pinot noir would have been fine, but a merlot, cab, Shiraz, or Syrah would have worked just fine, too. You could still make the cocktail, Kelly. Give it a try - I think you'll like it.

I also was a fan of the Galloping Gourmet! Our son wanted his GG Cooks Italian Cookbook, and it is still on his shelf! My other go tos are all my Ina Garten cookbooks, the original 1970s edition of the Joy of Cooking, and Betty Crocker. How lucky were you, Kelly, to live on the lake in Saratoga Springs??! I'll bet it was phenomenal no matter what the season. It's so picturesque up there in the Adirondacks and the Catskills.

To answer your question, Kelly, "If there is another big uptick in NYC, will they look to the parade prep?" Answer, of course not. They try to lay the blame where they have tried to place it for the last 1450 days. We've said here that as long as an event brings $$$$ in, or suits what they want to do, they have a different set of rules. Hope you put some Four Roses or Makers in that second refill of nog!

Time for lights out - sleep tight, and sweet dreams!

Kelly: Arenít WI cranberries good??? I add very little sugar to mine, either, and thatís why I like them!

It did my heart good to zoom w/the kids! They both sounded good, just tired. Clara is off this weekend, and her plans are sleep, sleep and sleep. Good girl!

I am relieved that Jason has a date set now. I am praying that Covid settles down by then. For sure, the weather will be better. It is difficult driving there in Winter!

Sadly, yes, for the love of $$$$, anything goes. **SIGH**

My Grandma always had Fiddle Faddle and we got some every time we went there. Those were the days! LOL

Cheers Ladies...it is after 3 but raising another toast to us. Thank you for another great year of friendship and all that goes with it. Hopefully next year we can finally put together a road trip. Thiry and I have been lucky enough to personally connect, it would be wonderful for us all to finally do the same. Cheers. Keeping it rather tame at the moment with boozy egg nog, for bottled stuff this takes the prize, seconds are on the horizon.

Dinner last night was good. The breast cooked way faster that it should, just glad I turned the oven off when I did and should have taken it out at that time but was on the phone. Oh, I discovered years ago those pop ups are not to be trusted. Didn't realize this one had one, never seen one other than a whole turkey. I thought afterwards I should have done the turkey sat on a beer can routine, didn't have beer anyway. Next time though.

Barb, I bought a different brand of fresh cranberries...from Wisconsin!!! Talk about big juicy and fresh. Wow. Didn't need as much sugar, only doctored them with some clementine juice, allspice, cinnamon and fresh nutmeg. If I had red zin on hand would have added that, just wasn't sure how it would have tasted with pinot noir. Other sub I ended up with because they were sold out of Pepperidge Farm bagged stuffing mix was a bag of potato cubes. Didn't notice it said soft cubes, threw them in the oven to crisp up but still didn't crisp enough to make a dressing. It worked okay taste wise just too mushy.

Glad you gals are giving yourselves permission to forego dinner kitchen duties. Now work on giving yourselves breaks on what works, my motto became if you don't like it, you fix it next time. (stay home tone) I too go back to the basics of a cookbook I got in the 60s, it lacks the hard cover; looking at the preface, it is the same book all my in laws learned from and based on The Settlement Cookbook. Funny how you can have a lot of cookbooks but there is only one or two that have been used most often. I have a book from the Galloping Gourmet that I used a lot, he had a tv show and it got me through the first winter in Saratoga living in a summer place on the lake in sub 0 weather.

That made me smile Barb to hear that Clara is doing better except for breathing. Both of them will feel much better after your care package gets delivered for sure. Oh and that Jas finally has a date set, sorry it will take that long but under the circumstances it might be good. Continued best wishes for continued great recovery.

Thiry sorry about George's son, oh my that is a long battle. Sent some healing vibes his way.

Sunny it's good that you are doing well

It was sad and frustrating to see no one along the parade. I did notice that the floats were minimal and without the usual number of walk alongs the balloons weren't as big either. I too wondered how they pulled that off even if they were masked. If there is another big uptick in NYC, will they look to the parade prep? We've said here that as long as an event brings $$$$ in, they have a different set of rules.

Time for a refill.

Hugs and prayers going out to all who protect our country and their families.

Oh and I remember fiddle faddle

Sharon: You know, that was my exact thought watching those floats/balloons. They didn't happen on their own. And the parade didn't occur on it's own either. So . . .. what of social distancing. **SIGH** Yup . . . fiddle faddle all right (Have you ever had Fiddle Faddle? Kind of a grown up version of Cracker Jack. My Grandmother ALWAYS had it.)

Well, turkey soup assembled and cooling. Smells so good, but again, my brain is full from the aromas again!

Happy Friday ladies!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinners, and had a nice day. Ours was delicious, too. DH even used the very rarely uttered word, "Perfect"! Needless to say I passed out from the total shock of it all! emoticon
Hope John and Clara enjoy their "made with love".

The weather here is still mild for this time of year, but cooler than yesterday.

Not sure what's on our menu tonight. Leftovers of some sort, for sure; but not turkey. Turkey tomorrow probably. Maybe even take out pizza - who knows?! I am officially off the clock both physically and mentally today!

Glad you go a date for Jasí thyroid procedure, and even better that you don' have to worry about driving in the winter weather! Also really great that it is outpatient too!
Prayers answered! Glad to hear Clara is improving day by day. Still ending her reiki once a day.

Good idea going back to the basics of the the old Betty Crocker recipe book! I still have mine, too. Hardcover binder edition! They don't make 'em like that anymore! And yes I agree that sometimes we just have to experiment till we get it right. But it's hard to beat those comfort classics!

Thiry, hope your dinner went well, and enjoy your time with your family. Safe travels.
Sorry to hear your DHís eldest son had Covid. Hope he feels better soon.

OK. . . Let me get this straight . . . They managed to hold the Macy's parade?! Figures! There was NO way in #*// all the necessary protocols could have been followed throughout the WHOLE process of organization, construction, assembly, helpers, and execution! They've ALWAYS needed THOUSANDS of volunteers every year in the past-including every single employee and their families from Macy's - plus lots more from general public to carry it off! The whole thing just smells really "stinky AND stale fishy"!
So let me get this straight . . . everyone can assemble to organize, prepare, and televise it, but the public is FORBIDDEN and no one can "social distance"outside to watch?! Fiddle-faddle or in plain English - BS!
I did read last night where SC blocked "his excellency's" ban on religious gatherings! Yay - one for the team! emoticon emoticon Just yet one more example of "Do as I say - not as I do!" So many gov't figures throughout the country caught "red-handed" not following their own "edicts and decrees"!

Adding my prayers for our soldiers, families, country, and 1st responders. Cach ya later!

Friday: Thanksgiving dinner turned out deliciously. Jason and I enjoyed it. Will put packages together for John and Clara for the weekend.

The weather was decent. It was dark and dreary in the morning, but the sun came out.

So, it will be leftovers tonight. Just heat up and no cooking. Hurray!

Jasonís thyroid procedure is now scheduled. 16 April. But we have to be up there on the 14th for Covid testing. Then pre-op stuff on the 15th. BUT the good news is, it will be outpatient. I am just ready for ALL this to be over! At least the spring is pretty there.

Thiry: Yes, got most of the T-Day meal done ahead of time. Worked out well. Mom used to do that, so guess I was channeling her.

Yes, hoping that things improve for Clara w/her breathing over time. She did well working this week, so glad of that.

Hmmm . . . some of my Momís recipes and Grandmaís have some directions missing. But I was able to get some help from the old Betty Crocker recipe book I have. Sometimes we just have to experiment till we get it right.

Sorry to hear DHís eldest son had Covid. It really is a force to be reckoned with.

Saw the Macyís parade, too. It was so different w/o seeing the crowds watching!

Safe travels this weekend.

Kelly, Sharon, Sunny, Tika, Marsha: Hope yíall had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers, families, country and 1st responders.

See yíall @ 3 pm.

BARB Ė yes, I will be busy and as you said 3 jobs including housework especially since I get no help from DH on that front. Yes, the shopping trip worked as I have her potting soil and tang, she has my anise seed and red food coloring. It sounds like you had most of your thanksgiving meal prepared ahead of time. Glad you were able to get through to Medicare and get the information you need for the radiofrequency ablation that they will be doing on his thyroid. Good to hear that Clara has been able to return to work. Having had pneumonia so bad back in 2014 I can understand her being short of breath following having had COVID. Iím sure that it will get better for her over time. Iím sure that both John and Clara will enjoy the care packages you drop by for them. Sorry to hear that the weather is causing Jason more pain. I hope the weather clears up for you for a while.

KELLY Ė sorry to hear that you are spending thanksgiving alone. I hope that you did have a nice relaxing day. How nice that Polk county FL is recognizing their k9s.

SHARON Ė oh my, waiting over an hour to pick up your turkey, glad you finally got it. Iíll have to research spatchcocked as I have never heard of it, but it does sound interesting. It sounds like you also had most of your Thanksgiving meal prepared ahead of time. This week has been nice although busy as I decided to bake several of momís recipes that I found when I was working on my recipe project. I had a couple that didnít turn out the way I remember them but they are still edible so that is a plus. Nice that you are taking a meal to your BF, Iím sure she will enjoy it. Good to hear that your meal turned out well and that everyone is satisfied.

SUNNY Ė glad that your COPD isnít bothering you, I guess I misunderstood your post and definitely donít blame you for not taking chances by going out right now especially with the increasing COVID numbers. I totally understand your missing church as I really missed it when we were watching the services on-line. Your pastorís sermons sound really interesting. Iíve never heard of hummingbird cake, but it sounds interesting. Nice that you are taking one of the cakes to your pastor, Iím sure it will be thoroughly enjoyed. Oh, tiramisu cheesecake sounds delicious. I love cheesecake and I also love tiramisu, so the combination sounds heavenly. Glad you were able to rest the other day. I am in total agreement with you about our little group. We definitely have been here for each other through all kinds of things. I am so grateful for all you being my friend.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It sounds like everyone had a nice day.

I have had a busy week with baking some of momís cookies as well as a couple from the recipe exchange. One cookie recipe that I made; the cookies totally fell apart when I tried to ďrollĒ them as instructed in the directions. Another one was supposed to have a stiff batter that would be rolled into little balls. My batter didnít get stiff at all. I was able to squeeze the dough into clumps but when I tried to roll it into a ball it fell apart so I ended up patting the dough on a cookie sheet and baking it that way. I havenít made the icing to put on it yet and havenít tried them at all to see how they turned out. One other recipe I made the cookies are so hard we can barely bite into them. DH said they are good dunking cookies. I made my pumpkin pie and pecan pies yesterday. When I was at the store the other day getting food supplies, I didnít get any whipped cream as I thought I had some in the freezer. Needless to say, when I searched the freezer for the whipped cream, I didnít find any, so I didnít have it to go with my pumpkin pie today.

Other than fixing the turkey and the rest of the meal, I havenít done much of anything else today. I do need to get my turkey off the bones and into the refrigerator. DH called his boys today only getting in touch with 2 of them. His oldest let us know that he was diagnosed with COVID 11/3 and missed work for a few weeks. His kids had to stay home from school for 3 weeks. He said that most of the guys where he works have gotten COVID, so they have been working short-handed. He also has several projects that he has been working on at home that he fell behind on while he was sick.

Last night after finishing my pies, supper and going to Thanksgiving Eve services I was really tired, and my back was hurting me, so I stretched out on the recliner. I fell asleep while I was doing that. When I woke up, the news was on, so I figured it was between 10 & 10:30 so I got busy cleaning up and putting things away from working on my cookies. At one point I saw the clock and notice that it was 2:30 am. Needless to say, when I woke up and saw the news it must have been the replay which runs about 1 am. Needless to say, since I had been cleaning and putting stuff away, I was wide awake, so I finished what I was doing, washed up the dishes then after cleaning out the sink I got the turkey ready to go into the oven. I placed it in the oven about 4:30 am on low heat so I wouldnít have to worry about making sure I was awake to get it in the oven later. About 11:30 I turned up the heat and started preparing the rest of the food for our Thanksgiving meal. It took longer for the timer to pop up, so we ate later than what I had originally planned. We watched the Macyís Thanksgiving Day parade and another show that CBS had on about parades. They looked back at previous years parades. Other than that, we have watched several Hallmark movies.

My turkey is calling me to get the meat off the bones and I am getting tired so I guess I had better get the turkey taken care of so I can get everything put away and see about getting some rest. DH is already in bed as he has to be at work at 4:45 am so I will most likely sleep on the couch, so I donít disturb him trying to head to bed later. If I happen to wake up while he is getting ready for work, I will head into the bedroom to finish sleeping. I also need to get things gathered and into the car so that when he gets off work we can head to my sisters for the weekend and a thanksgiving meal with her and our brother on Saturday.

Have a great week.
Thiry

Done with dinner, and so satisfied. Everything turned out well. I chose not to brine the turkey, and it was not as moist as I'd hoped. Next time I will take the time to do that. The herb butter did add a nice flavor and richness. The skin browned and crisped up nicely without burning at all. The spatchcocking helped the turkey to reach 160 in just 3 hours! Evenly cooked throughout. Let it rest loosely tented for 30 minutes. I tried a new stuffing recipe this year, and it was so savory and good. Amped up boxed Kitchen Basics Turkey Stock with some additions and simmering. Same with gravy. Very good, and that's alot coming from me as I'm not a gravy person. Going to watch a movie, and then have our Spiced Pear Cheesecake later.

What did you gals think of the cocktail?

Will check in again later! Love youse guys!

Good afternoon Gang!
Quick hello and Thanksgiving wishes for a blessed and beautiful holiday with family. Here, here on what both you and Sunny said here.

I'll check back in around 3 ish for our toast! Just finished assembling my stuffing and it looks wonderful! I am "experimenting with flavor combinations this year. If I fail - it's only the two of us - no company. I'll let you know how it all turns out later.

Got to run to finish prepping the turkey. He's been resting on the counter all morning.
Catch ya later!!!! emoticon

Sunny, all I can say is ditto your thoughts AND the thoughts of Barb and Sharon.

I love all of you and truly appreciate your friendship.

See all y'all at 3 and I may have to just go to the store for some ingredients, I haven't looked at that chiller drink yet.

I'm not going to our son's. As he said, three college kids in tow; who knows. I picked up a free range turkey breast and not going all out with the sides, keeping it pretty basic because I'm becoming a very lazy cook. I have never done the spatchwhatever turkey or chicken but it is delicious. I've cut up whole chickens and that was enough to make me willing to pay someone else to take that back bone out. I know a good pair of kitchen shears is key, and I just threw out my 20+ year old pair that wouldn't cut air. Easy to get hooked on free range, they taste so much better. I remember when honey baked hams first hit the market in the 80s folks standing in line forever so I'm not surprised it happened with the turkey. That guy must have an awesome supplier. YUM

Hugs and Prayers to our military and their families, especially those who are deployed and of course our first responders. Oh, Polk county FL sheriff's office is recognizing their K9s. The other day they did a piece with one dressed as a dispatcher. Fun.

See all of you at 3, it is nice enough to sit out on the front porch. Hmmm maybe while at the store I'll pick up charcoal and fire up the weber for mr. Tom. Kyle has that monster green egg, sure they are cooking theirs on it again.

Love emoticon

Sharon: Mom always made the turkey at least the day before and carved it, so she could get the carcass boiling for soup. So thatís my strategy, too.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve ladies!

To answer questions - no we are not having company for tomorrow. Decided to go ahead and cook a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, I am gong to assemble and deliver some to my BF. She is alone and self quarantining as she has been helping out with her new gs. I am going to surprise her. I know she'll be thrilled.

Did some more prepping earlier, had lunch, and just got the Brussels sprouts ready to roast in the oven. Going to make the gravy base, and add the drippings to it tomorrow.

Need to clear a big enough space in the frig for the turkey to rest uncovered overnight to dry out skin. Will do the stuffing tomorrow- it will just be assembly and baking. Then the sides will just be re-heat to eat while cooking the bird and the stuffing. Found a cheesecake last night, and will top it with my Spiced Pear Chutney. It should be delicious! Then it's basically leftovers for the weekend. I'll officially be off KP!

Sunny, good luck with your prep.

Barb, you seem so organized with even having your turkey roasted and carved!

If you made the Cranberry sauce, I'll remind you of my Spiced Cranberry Sour for a great Thanksgiving and holidays cocktail. That might be on the docket when I finish cooking this afternoon. You could probably do it with Whole Cranberry Sauce, and add a dash of Pumpkin Pie spice, along with a 1/2 oz-1 oz of simple syrup or honey to taste. It's in the Fall's Abuzz thread not quite 1/4 of the way down the page.

Kelly, you are definitely and officially AWOL & MIA now!

Well, got to run to start the stock with the neck and giblets. Enjoy the rest of your evening!

Prayers for our families, military, country, and first responders.

Good forecast for us too on Thursday.

My brother called from Buffalo this morning, talked for over an hour.

Today, just picking up a little and getting some of the dishes prepped for tomorrow.

Do have an awesome day, team!!

I like the idea of putting the herb butter under the skin. I have seen it done before but haven't done it. Thanks to you and Sharon, I will try that soon with my chicken.

How is Jason today?

I am off to get some PJ's on and be a slug bug for the rest of the night.

Are you having company Sharon? Sure sounds good. Our son fixed a Spatchcocked Turkey one year and it was so good. I have never tried it but may soon try a spatchcocked chicken.
I am impressed with your menu. Are you having company. Our DIL is making a TIRAMISU Cheese cake. Sounds great. I love Tiramisu!!

I am pooped but have rested and I am done for the day. I got both cakes done, the prep done for the Cornbread dressing and fixed a pot of Ham and Beans with a side of Cornbread. Seems like I have been in this kitchen all day.

Do have a Wonderful Wednesday. Love you all, Sunny

Sharon: Oh my goodness! There was a line by our local butcher, too. Rainy/snowy today. Glad I already had my turkey! Will try my luck for Christmas.

OHhhh, spatchcocked poultry definitely is so nice for that crispy skin. Lends itself to grilling, too. Yes, it does cut down on cooking time, because there is more surface area exposed.

We are totally twins Ė seasoned under the sking and in the cavity of the turkey, too. Makes for tasty meat.

Going to see your spiced cranberry sauce recipe. LOVE fresh crans.

Very busy on the phone today. Had to call Medicare about Jasonís pending radiofrequency ablation of the thyroid nodules. Verified that, w/proper medical necessity documentation from the surgeon, it would be approved by Medicare. So, glad we sent the e-mail to the interventional radiologist 3 weeks ago. Will follow up in 2 weeks.

Clara just returned to work yesterday. Still having a little shortness of breath, but her oxygen sats are 95%. So, sheís doing well. Glad we got her the O2 monitor. Sheíll need that if she gets cold or flu since her lungs are now susceptible. Sad.

Will drop off a care package over the weekend to John and Clara.

Hugs and good luck in your search for cheesecake.

BTW, no, haven't heard from Kelly.

Happy Tuesday all!

Started the morning chores off with picking up our turkey at the butcher shop. Waited in line for over an hour just to get to the door social distancing and all, and then only 5 people in shop at a time. UGH! Had it spatchcocked so that skin will get nice and crispy, and it will cook in about 90 minutes! Definitely an "experiment" on my part, so we'll see what happens. Read about it online, and decided to give it a try. Have cooked spatchcocked chickens, and it works well - so why not?

Separated the skin from the meat, and rubbed freshly made herbed butter - sage, thyme, and parsley under the skin and also on the cavity. Tomorrow will sprinkle lightly with kosher salt, and put in frig uncovered to dry out skin to aid in crispiness of skin.

Prepped and precooked my butternut squash, and my prepped Brussels sprouts today. Will par-roast sprouts tomorrow, and peel and prep my potatoes. May even do the stuffing tomorrow. I am trying a Herbed Sausage stuffing. Haven't done that before. Have previously done my mom's oyster dressing - couldn't find any oysters in the stores - have made herbed fruit stuffing which the grands, and I liked several times. So a few experiments this year. We'll see what happens. . .
No dessert as of yet. Hoping to find a cheesecake.

By the way, if you are interested in doing the Spiced Cranberry Sauce with Zinfandel (or red wine of your choice) the recipe is on page 5 of the What's Cookin' board near the bottom.

Sunny glad you are doing OK. I've had Hummingbird Cake once and it was tasty. Anyone know how it came to be named as such?

Thiry, hope this week goes well for you.

Barb, you must be busy. Hope Jas had a good day. How's Clara?

Anyone hear from Kelly lately?

Leftover pot roast for dinner tonight - thank goodness! Enjoy the rest of your evening, ladies.

Tuesday: Stuffing made, turkey stuffed, roasted and carved. Bones boiling for broth and gravy. Yum! Smells wonderful. Now have to make the sides, but that wonít take as long.

Have a great Tuesday!

Hugs

Sunny: We're getting the rain/snow mix. UGLY. And tomorrow rain continues. Looks like Thanksgiving will be 50F! WEIRD!

Glad your COPD isn't bothering you too much.

Good Morning Team.

Thiry, the COPD is not bothering me. In fact, I am doing much better but our Covid #'s increased drastically last week so Rich and I decided that because of the COPD, I would not risk getting out. I did miss Church but watched it on FB which was nice. Our Pastor has been doing messages centered on hymns and this week it was on When I survey the wonderous Cross". He has got a lovely voice so sings the featured song during his message. I have really enjoyed this series of messages.

Guess what we got last night? Snow and Sleet. Ugh 2020 definitely needs to go - now!! The good thing is that it has warmed up to 42 and is now raining. Glad I was in my warm house.

It is cake day at my house , making two Hummingbird Cakes, one for us and I am taking one to Pastor's Family. His wife does not bake and they will have company for Thanksgiving.

Do have a lovely day and I will drop by later.

Hugs to all, Sunny. Know I am thankful for your friendships!!

Thiry: Yes! Jason was feeling quite confined. Donít blame him. It was good therapy for him to get outside.

You definitely will have your hands full working 2 jobs (3 if you count housework!)

Your Ďshoppingí w/your sister reminds me of what I used to do w/Mom when we lived in IL. Funny, but . . . it worked! LOL

Hope you have time to breathe!

BARB Ė Glad that you and Jason got a chance to get outside and get some Vit. D, glad that Jason felt better after his time outside. I havenít heard much on the Nebraska football player but did hear that by Saturday evening he had feeling in all extremities and was able to move but they were keeping him in the hospital overnight for observation. The good Lord was sure with him during that time. Oh, those medical bills they can be very daunting thatís for sure. Going to start thawing my turkey also as well as doing some baking and making my pies. That is quite the story about your mom being billed for test that is only possible done on men. I definitely wouldnít be paying that bill either.

KELLY Ė I hope you are doing well.

SHARON Ė sorry to hear that your message disappeared yesterday. Yes, it has been really busy so hoping to take it easy for the next couple weeks, even though the contract job is scheduled to start next Monday before the tax season begins on 12/14 as it will be extremely busy from then until 4/15/21 working the 2 jobs. You always seem to prepare incredibly good meals so itís not surprising that you would start preparing for that meal today. Nice that you can get a pasture raised turkey from your local butcher.

SUNNY Ė Sorry your COPD is bothering you again. Most likely the best decision to stay home from church under the circumstances. Hope you are feeling better soon. It is sure nice that we can watch the church sermons on-line right now, isnít it? Sorry to hear about your Church friend. Prayers that she gets better very soon.

Yesterday DH and I went to church then stopped at the store on the way home to pick up pork tenderloin meals from the deli as I had been craving one for some time now. We had to wait for them to get the food prepared and put out, so we wondered around the store. We ended up picking up a small pine tree with lights and ornaments to bring home for out Christmas tree this year as we donít have room for a regular tree. It is quite cute, and the lights are very bright. After eating out meal and setting up the Christmas tree I made some popcorn crazy crunch, making 2 batches as DH prefers not to have peanuts so made one batch with pecans and almonds for him and a batch with just peanuts for me. Other than that and cleaning up the dishes I didnít do a lot although I did go through some recipes and made a grocery list to have ready when I ran to the store today. I did talk with my sister for a little while.

This morning I headed to the store about 9 am, calling my sister on the way as I had heard the governor was going to hold a press conference at 10 am this morning. She was getting ready to head to the store to get what she hopes is the last of what she needs for thanksgiving so neither of us got to listen to the conference. Yesterday when we were talking, she asked if she couldnít find potting soil when she went shopping today if I could pick some up for her and take it to her when we go up there Friday. While I was at the store, she called me back saying she couldnít find any potting soil so I told her I would head that way in a little bit and asked how big of bag she wanted. When I got there, I found a larger bag then later a smaller bag. The larger bag, about 3-4 times as much as the smaller bag was only about a dollar more than the smaller bag so I decided to get that instead of the smaller one thinking if she didnít want all of it, I would pay for the rest and bring it back home with me. She called me again and so I took advantage of it and asked her about the potting soil in which she told me to get the larger bag. While we were on the phone, I asked her to look for red food coloring and anise seed as I couldnít find any in my store. She said she had the food coloring but would look for the anise seed. I did purchase anise extract as I thought I would try the recipe with that if I couldnít find the seed. She then asked me to look for some tang for her, so I headed back across the store and found that for her. We have had a laugh about needing to be on the phone with each other so make sure we both had what we needed and swapping it when we get together. After leaving the store I headed to the post office to pick up the mail before heading home. I have my groceries pretty much put away although the baking supplies are on the table so I guess I should get busy and get some things done as I have decided to bake some of the items that mom used to bake at Christmas. Iím not going to make a lot of them as we donít need that much stuff here to much on and there are some of the recipes that I wonít make because of them being made with items that I donít like.

While I was heading to the store this morning, I had a wintery mix hitting my window even though the forecast was to have rain starting about 1 pm. While I was in the store it started snowing and by the time I got everything, had lunch with DH as he came by as I was checking out and made the comment about my buying him lunch, so we went to Subway and got sandwiches and sat and talked. While we were talking, I realized that I forgot to get a birthday card as the wife of a friend of his is turning 90 on 12/16 and due to COVID they are asking for everyone to send her a card, then I was telling him that my sister had purchased a pecan pie for this weekend so I would only make one as he asked for one so he can have some here on Thanksgiving, at which time I remembered I didnít get any pie shells. I quickly ran and got the card and pie shells then rejoined him at Subway to finish lunch. When I left, I had a small layer of heavy wet snow on the car that I needed to clean off before I could head home.

Well, I am going to see about getting busy as I have quite a list of things to get done between now and Thursday. Have a great day.

Have a great week.

Good Monday morning, ladies.

Going to prep my onions, shallots, carrots, celery needed for our T'day recipes today. Also making the Spiced Cranberry Sauce with Zinfandel so it can marinate. I started to do it yesterday only to discover I had forgotten to buy oranges on my previous trip to the grocery store. Went last night at 9:30 for them, and a couple more things, and forgot them a second time! Luckily, I hadn't left the parking lot yet! Sheesh!

We will pick up our turkey tomorrow from a local butcher. They are pasture raised on a farm. Ordered one several years ago for our first Thanksgiving when the kids lived nearby. It was delicious! Not cheap by any means, but we decided to support the local economy, and treat ourselves.

Cooler here this morning, but sunny.

Hope you all have a good start to your week. Will catch ya later!

Monday: Thawing the turkey. Probably roast it tomorrow or Wednesday.

Cold day, but supposed to be up to the 50ís on Thanksgiving!

Hugs and have a motivated Monday.

Sharon: Youíre not the first one whose message vanished. GAH!

Oh for sure, I am really good @ deciphering the medical bills. I remember years ago my Mom kept getting billed for a procedure and didnít pay it. The date didnít coincide w/any Dr. visit sheíd made. She finally mentioned it after a YEAR of this. She showed me the bill and I bust out laughing. Took one look @ the code and knew right away what the problem was. She was billed for a PSA test. She didnít have a clue what that was. Ummm . . . explained that it would be like Dad being billed for a mammogram (well, I guess men CAN have that) or a Pap smear! We laughed till the tears rolled down our cheeks. For sure, she didnít pay it. Called the Drs. office and told them the story. They had a good laugh too.

Quick drive by for lights out . . .

I posted a good sized message around 10:30 this morning, and it's not here!!! What the hey?!!!! That's two in a row!

Glad you had a quiet Sunday, Barb, and nice you got Jas out for some sun therapy. Oh gosh . . . medical bills - YIKES! Sometimes that can be like trying to break a code . . . Maybe your professional background helps with that. Hope you both got some R & R in today, too.

Sunny, sorry to read that your COPD is nagging you again, and probably good you skipped on church. I'm sure He definitely understands. So sorry about your friend. I hope she improves soon.

Kelly, and Thiry, hope you both are doing fine. Thiry you sound busier than a one armed paper hanger! I hope things slow down for you a bit.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend - what's left of it - and here's to the start of another week!

Lights out and sweet dreams!

Quiet day here too! I skipped church. Rich and I talked and decided I should "lay low" for a while due to the COPD. Ugh...

The sermon should be posted now so I will go to the website and watch it. I am grateful for that option.

Blessings for a wonderful Sunday to all of you. So good to hear that Jason got outside. He is used to being "on the go" so know that this has probably been hard on him.

A friend of ours at Church has Covid and she is having problems with her 02. Ugh. Her fever finally broke last night but maintaining the oxygen has been a problem.

Take care and I will see you all tomorrow.

Sunday: Quiet day. Had a pile of medical bills to reconcile, so got those in order.

It was a nice day so got Jason out in the back yard for some sun therapy! He felt so much better after going outside.

Kelly: It is a waffle kinda day!

Yes, we were out in the back yard catching some Vit. D. Lovely!

You had a relax day! WE all need those!

Barb: Yes, in person PT would be ideal, but @ this point in time w/the Covid #ís it really is not a good choice.

Glad you got your items earlier than anticipated. Always surprising.

Thatís good that you have contract work to see you through. HOPE things get easier for you.

It is daunting for our friends. Just exhausted. Understandably.

Sorry to hear about the Nebraska player being injured. Thatís nice the players were respectful of him. Prayers heís all right.

Glad you got your refund.

BARB Ė nice that you received your printer early that it is hooked up and working. We ordered some things on the weekly black Friday stuff last Wednesday and were anticipating it to arrive Wednesday this week and received it on Monday. I was really surprised when I went to the post office on Monday and the items were here already. Good that Jason is getting his PT even if it is via video although if he were able to have in person PT, I think it would be better but have to do what needs to be done at this point. I know exactly what you mean about not having the freezer space. I may look to see if the turkeys are still at the lower price when I take mine out of the freezer this week and if they are, I might purchase another just to have on hand. Yes, I have been uber busy but hoping that the next few weeks between now and 12/14 when advance tax begins, I can get a break and be able to complete my sorting project as at that time between the contract position and tax advance I will be working many hours each day. There is no way I can pass on the contract position as we need the money right now as my unemployment ran out a month ago, so I havenít had any income for the last 4 weeks. I need that extra income to help get caught up on things. Yes, I had heard that the vaccine is a 2 part and that it will need to be kept frozen which causes many logistical issues such as transporting large quantities to get them where they need to be sent then how they will store them when they receive them. Nice that you were able to have your zoom meeting with your breakfast this morning. I canít imagine what your friends are going through being an EMT and paramedic. Hopefully, you were able to get Jason out for a short walk.

KELLY Ė I hope all is going well for you.

SHARON Ė nice that you have been able to FT with the grands and a good reason to be MIA. Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with the phone. I still need to figure out what I still need for our thanksgiving here as DH will be off as Wally world is closed this thanksgiving. This will be the first thanksgiving DH will have off since we moved to Omaha and he started working for Wally World. Yes, Iím glad I caught the ice buildup as the freezer was still keeping the stuff frozen which really saved me a lot of time as the food was still frozen, so I didnít have to spend the time cooking up what had thawed out. Yes, I will be busy once tax season begins as I will be working full days with the contract job and what hours I cam with the tax job. I still have what the real estate agent told us and holding that to use but we need to have a house lined up before we give them the 14-day notice to fix the tub or we move out as I donít want to do that and not have anywhere to go.

SUNNY Ė yes, I have been busy and hoping to be able to catch my breath and get a couple things completed between now and the beginning of advance tax season. I agree with you on feeling very frustrated with the way things are going and that things seem to be getting worse right now. I hope you were able to get your cleaning done.

I donít know what was going on Thursday evening but really didnít feel well as my heart rate was running high even though all I was doing was sitting on the couch watching TV so I didnít do much that night and actually fell asleep on the couch so ended up sleeping there as when I woke up it was the middle of the night, so I didnít want to disturb DH since he was asleep and needed to get up to be at work by 7 am. Feeling much better yesterday and today so that is good.

It was interesting at the office yesterday while I was there completing the last of my practice problems. After the supervisors (storefront and Walmart) left to do some things at one of the other offices the gals that were there working on their practice problems started talking about some of their frustrations with the Walmart supervisor. Several of them stated that thy just about didnít come back this year because of her. I had to laugh at her on Thursday as she was working on a practice problem and asked me if military and combat pay were the same thing. I was telling DH about this and he said, even I know that they are different. She is also having lots of problems working with the Profiler program especially getting past the product option/payment page. The gal that is in charge of my training said that she doesnít feel that the Walmart supervisor is going to be any help because of the problems she is having with Profiler and she, just learning how to do tax returns, isnít going to have the knowledge she needs to help anyone with their questions.

DH and I were watching the Nebraska football game this afternoon and at the beginning of the 4th quarter one of the Nebraska football players got hurt on one of the plays. As they were checking him out, they ended up strapping him to a backboard and eventually taking him from the field by stretcher. The thing that really impressed me with this whole thing is that while he was on the field and they were looking at him all the other players were on their knee, including the ones on the sidelines, even the ones that would be sitting on the bench. The benches were empty as they were all on the ground on their knees. I was also noticing the look of concern on the faces of all the players and even noticed that one was saying a prayer as the cameras scanned past him. No word on the condition of the player as of the end of the game but praying that he is all right. Needless to say, I was so extremely impressed on the respect being shown to the injured Nebraska player during the whole situation.

Kind of taking it easy today as all I have done so far is to clean the bathroom and litter boxes, fixed out lunch to eat while watching the game, ran a couple loads of clothes and made a post office run to pick up the mail. Not anything planned for this evening unless I suddenly decide to try making some of the recipes I have been looking at. I did finally receive the refund on the washer after calling the office Thursday afternoon and being told that I would need to call back on Friday as the person that was there didnít know anything about it. I called after getting home from completing my practice tax returns and they finally had the money at my door within the next 5-10 minutes. After receiving the money, I took the quilt down to wash it and found that they had increased the price on the machines from $1.50 to $1.75 so I had to make a trip back to the apartment to get another quarter since I had only taken $1.50 with me. I brought the quilt back to the apartment and used our dryer to dry it as I didnít want to spend another $1.75 on that.

Well, I am going to sign off and check on what Christmas movie that has taped that I want to watch tonight. Have a great evening.

Have a great week.

Well, except for bacon and zoom, had waffles for breakfast too. I forgot your zoom friends were first responders.
Hope Jas got out for some fresh air today!

Sharon that is wonderful you got quality ft with the grands! Know that lifted both your spirits. Boo Hiss on the phone though.

Thiry, what can I say except send you some hugs!

Quiet and boring day today, sat outside for some fresh air didn't feel like driving anywhere or even walking. Or going to the pewl.

Everyone, hope it is bright and sunny tomorrow. Sending hugs and prayers to our military and first responders.

Saturday: Waffles this morning. Took a short cut and made Hormel microwaveable bacon. Good! Zoomíd w/friends. Things are pretty tense for them (Emt and paramedic). The hospitals are in critical situations. Full. **SIGH** Prayers.

Hugs and enjoy your Saturday.

Sharon: Oh THERE you are! Nice that the reason for the MIA is FTíing w/the grands.

Good heavens. Sorry that the phone is still an issue. GRRrrr.

Yes, I am relieved in a way that the PT is virtual. I would chance it if the aqua therapy were available, but itís not right now due to Covid (naturally). Pleased he did well, though, with the video session.

HOPING to get Jason out for a quick walk, even if just in the yard, as the sun is out and itís pretty (albeit a little cool).

Kelly, Sunny, Thiry, Tika, Marsha: Have a good Saturday.

Hi Gang,
late drive by for bed check and lights out. I've been the one MIA these last couple of days as our grands have called right after we finish lunch and Ft with us for a couple of hours. I am glad, and so today they didn't call right after lunch so I took advantage of the situation and ran to the grocery store to get the rest of what I needed for our Thanksgiving dinner. They called around dinner time, and we talked for a couple of hours and I read them 3 books. So that's why I've not been by . . . or done blogs this week.
Phone is still an issue - DH called again yesterday - "They're working on it." "Call back again early next week".

Thiry, so sorry to hear about your freezer, but glad you caught it in time to defrost it, and saved the food that was in there.
Sounds like you will be pretty busy once tax season rolls around. I figured you were probably busy with the job hunt, but forgot about the tax prep classes.
Boy you sure have some shady shisters working and running your complex. And still noword on the tub issue . . . unbelievable!! What about what the one real estate gal told you? I hope you got your refund so you can do your laundry elsewhere.

Barb, nice that you got your printer before expected! Good for Jas giving good instructions. Glad he's got a good PT even though the sessions are via video. I hope you got to go out an enjoy the nicer weather when all was said and done.

Kelly sorry it was too cold to have your get-together the other night. I know how much you must look forward to them. I hope you get to do something fun this weekend.

Sunny, I am sorry your thanksgiving plans with your son had to be cancelled. I am in total agreement with you and Barb. It is definitely just how you describe it. I am going to have to go check out that link. So sorry I missed dinner!!! Sounds very comforting.

Well time for lights out. . . I hope we all have a good weekend. Sweet dreams!

Sunny: This time it played out for me. All I can say is, OMG. Besides the use of fetal tissue, there is the issue of EXPECTED high volumes of adverse reactions. Really?? And the FDA will approve this??? Going to dig further into Pfizer and Moderna, as I think theyíre going to be released soon, too. Appalling.

Just so you know, my dear, you are NOT the only one who is a little disappointed w/how things are going, a little depressed, and @ times angry, too, with how things are going. NOT getting better Ė getting worse. I cannot imagine being human and NOT having those feelings. IT is frustrating. But, have to keep the faith. Have to stay informed the best we can. I am so glad you posted that link.

Barb, if you wait a minute, the video will appear. The initial message says something about it being taken down but then all of a sudden, it appears. I just checked it and it is still up.

Thiry, you have been one busy girl. Hope you got your $$ back from the office and got your quilt washed. I just get so exhausted reading about all that you are doing and yes, girl, I am totally impressed. You are like the energizer bunny - just keeps going and going. Awesome!!

Kelly, sorry your group can't meet and I know that is a disappointment. I am feeling very disappointed also and I think maybe a little depressed also. I just am so tired of things being the way they are and then I get angry as it seems that they are not getting better and only getting worse. Then, I have to stop and apologize to God and ask for His forgiveness. I do have a lot to be grateful for and I know without a doubt, nothing absolutely nothing happens by accident. He knows how this is all going to turn out and it will all be to His Glory!! Patience Sunny....

I am cleaning today so best get busy. I love you all.

Sunny

Friday: Turned out to be a good day! Beautiful weather!

We got our printer delivered! It wasnít anticipated till next week. All connected now and working! Never did that before, but Jason gave good instructions. PHEW

The PT was changed to a video session! I am glad of that. Water therapy is cancelled till the end of December and will re-evaluate. But he has a really good physical therapist, so I am relieved. Put Jason through his paces!

Here it is . . . FriYaY again! Enjoy

Thiry: Yup. Hurray on the Nick being still gone.

We lucked out that the printer we ordered on-line arrived yesterday! Got it all hooked up and working.

Yes, wish I had more room to buy another turkey, but donít have the freezer space.

Sounds like you have been UBER-busy w/classes and job hunting. Good luck. Sorry the tub and house hunting are still not moving forward.

Definitely sounds like you cannot pass up the contract work opportunity for ore $$$.

Yes, the one vaccine is a 2-part series and needs to be kept frozen. THATíS a huge logistic to work out.

Our hospitals are already in crisis mode. **SIGH**

Kelly, Sharon, Sunny, Tika, Marsha: Hope all is well.

Hugs and prayers for our soldiers, families, country and 1st responders.

See yíall @ 3 pm.

BARB Ė good to hear that Jasonís surgery went well, that you made it home safe and sound and that he is progressing. Good to hear that you have been able to get OT at home for Jason. Prayers that it goes well for him. Good to hear that he is starting to be able to walk without the walker but di understand your wanting to make sure you are around when he does walk without the walker. Good to hear that Clara is feeling better and that Nick is still gone. Prayers that he stays gone. Sorry to hear that your printer died, glad that you were able to get one ordered to replace it. Glad that you were able to get your turkey. I picked ours up last week paying $0.78/pound for it. I wish I had room to purchase more than one at that price but not at this time. When I got home, I had to rearrange the freezer to get it in and found the bottom full if ice again so spent the rest of the evening defrosting that and getting the freezer running again. At least this time I caught it before it started letting the food thaw saving me from having to cook anything that thawed out in the process.

KELLY Ė thank you, yes, all is well is well although I have been extremely busy lately. Oh, how nice that you got the surprise box with the champaign flutes. They sound nice. That sunrise sounds absolutely amazing. Sorry you didnít get to have your gathering this week. I just canít imagine going on a road trip anywhere right now with all that is going on with COVID.

SHARON Ė I have seen Chateau Christmas on Hallmark. Yes, it was a good movie as well as the 12 Dates of Christmas. Sorry to hear that you were having phone problems and prayers that all is finally fixed completely. Yes, we are seeing the sun here. It was in the 70ís yesterday and today although tomorrow will be different as they are forecasting in the mid 50ís. no progress on the tub front or house front but I have been too busy to do much on that right now. As for the job I finally heard something from them and yesterday that the contract job is now scheduled to start on 11/30. I had to fill out a form with information so they can do the background check which will prompt the mailing of the equipment. I did that when I got home from the tax office.

SUNNY Ė great to hear that you are feeling better and are able to navigate the stairs. Sorry to hear about your friend Ruth losing her sister, prayers for the family. Sorry to hear that your thanksgiving plans with your son had to be cancelled. Cases of COVID are going up rapidly in Nebraska right now also. I just wish this were over.

Sorry I have been MIA as it has been really busy between job hunting, advance tax class, doing the modules (6) for advance class along with the assessments for each module, doing the required updating modules for this tax season (10) and now going to the office to do my TPRT tests over the required modules for the season and the 5 practice returns to go along with the class modules. I started problem 4 today at the office so I am going in again tomorrow to complete that one and the last one, hopefully finishing tomorrow. While I was at the office today my supervisor was telling me that the IRS is still 55 million returns behind as of yet from the shutdown last spring which would explain why DH DS and DIL still havenít received their 2018 refund, filed late 2019, their 2019 refund nor the stimulus that was sent out last spring. She did contact me this afternoon letting me know that after I sent copies of their 2018 & 2019 tax returns to them since they couldnít find the copies that I gave them at the time we filed the returns they called the IRS and found that their returns have been completed and they should be getting the refunds before long. While I was at the office yesterday as well as today my supervisor was telling me that they have had a lot of people that took the classes that have backed out of working as they donít want to be in public. Now, I donít know why they wouldnít have realized that they would be in public before they took the class. She also told me that the person that I worked with last year who had told her he would work weekends wonít be working as his wife refuses to let him work (in public) and the other person that was scheduled to help me is one of the ones that have backed out, so I am the only one she has to work that location. She told me that she would give me as close to 40 hours as she could. As of yet, I havenít said anything to her about the contract job as I want to make sure that it is actually going to be going before I say anything, and she finds someone else to work the kiosk (although I donít think she has anyone to do that). Also, right now I donít know what hours I will be working the contract position. I am hoping that I can get up and start work early then I can head to the kiosk between 2-3 in the afternoon to work until close. That would mean that the kiosk wouldnít be opening at 10 or 11 as they have in the past. She probably wonít be too happy about my reduced availability but since the contract position pays $7/hour more than what they are paying me I canít afford to pass it up. Today she found out that the manager at the 33rd & L storefront wonít be available to work during advance starting 12/14 as she is due to have a baby any day now.

Well, it has been over 5 weeks since we were informed that the tub was leaking again and over 3 since the guy was supposed to be here to decide what to do about it. To tell you the truth I am temped to fill the tub just so it leaks into the bathroom below us to get them to do something about it but then waiting to see what happens on the house hunting front so we can use this as a reason to break the lease before February. Then on Monday I took our quilt downstairs to put in the public washer since it is too big for out apartment washer and after putting it in the washer, adding the soap and putting the money in I found that the washer was out of order. I pushed the coin return button but nothing. I took the quilt out of the washer and took it with me to the car as I was on my way out to run a couple errands and hoped to be able to take it back to the apartment to dry when I got back. As I was driving to the post office, I called the office to tell them about the washer and asked about my money. The person asked if I was asking about being refunded and I said yes, it is enough to do a load of clothes. After checking with someone in the office she told me they would put in a work order for the washer and then put the refund in an envelope that would be placed on my door sometime that afternoon. As of tonight, I still havenít received the refund. Late this afternoon I called the office to ask about it and was told I would need to call back in the morning as she didnít know anything about it.

I was watching something on TV and saw a news article that stated that there could be one of the COVIS vaccines out by next Friday. From what they were saying, nursing and first responders would be the first to receive the vaccine then it would go to the senior living centers. Last week my sister was telling me that she heard that the COVID vaccine would need to be kept frozen until shortly before administration. From the local news conference, I heard the other day the cases in our county have been doubling about every week to 10 days. They expect that if this continues the hospitals will be at or over capacity by Christmas.

Last week my sister said that they had about 5 inches of snow where she lives in Norfolk, NE and that she had talked to our brother about 1.5 hours north in Bloomfield and they had 8 inches. She asked how much we had received here, and I told her nothing. We had a little rain but that was it.

Iím going to get ready for bed as I need to head to the office to complete the last 2 practice problems, so I donít have to worry about them next week. Good night.

Have a great week.
Thiry

Pfizer would likely get theirs in ahead because they spent so much campaign dough on the d's, interesting that within days of announcing their 90% it was upped after another company announced their rate. Sad as it is what that one vaccine is made of, that will mean more for us when another is released. Meanwhile, good ole clean hands is a big help.

The spike we've had continues with the 21-30's, I think it is more of hospitalizations. Used to be phone lines were tied up with holiday calls, this year it'll be the internet.

Not as cold overnight, bright sunny but windy day again. Didn't have our gathering last night because it was too cold for the patio, besides it probably would have only been 2-3 of us. Three of the gals are on a road trip literally out to the west coast. Here you can order sumthin sumthin with your take out so ordered sangria to go too! Generous pour.

Nothing else, everyone enjoy the rest of Friday eve!

Hugs and lots of prayers all around.

Kelly

Sunny: **SIGH** Well, maybe for the vaccine protection it's best for Seniors, but it sure doesn't do anything for the heart! **SIGH**

I think we will have a wait anyhow for the vaccine, as I am sure 1st responders are going to be the first vaccinated.

Thanks for the link.

Just saw on the news that particular vaccination is the one that is supposed to be the best for seniors. Ugh...

I will wait and continue to wear a mask, wash my hands, and say my prayers!!

It is sad but we will do our best to make the best of it!

Take care and be blessed!

Barb, that is a terrific idea to use the gait belt. Good for Jason to be feeling strong enough to walk without the walker and good for you to encourage him to only do that when you can be by his side. He will be there before you know it!! Awesome and way to go Jason!!

Speaking of Jason, our Son Jason called yesterday to cancel our Holiday Plans due to the increase in covid in their area. I guess cases have doubled in the past 30 days. It is on the rise here too which is sad as I am just so ready to have this all behind us. I have faith and hope that someday we will see the last of it.

As far as the vaccination is concerned, found out yesterday AstraZeneca's vaccination is made with aborted fetal tissue. Ugh... My heart is just so heavy with this news.

Here is the video link if you want to watch it. It is not a long video and may have even been taken down.

Kelly: Thatís what I told Jas, too. JUST go w/o the walker when I am with you. Period. I have a gait belt I use w/him and it works well.

Turkeys are whatís on sale this week. Saw it on sale (Jenni-O) for 0.98 cents/lb. Have my turkey though! Happily.

Love the boogie woogie!

Stay warm! Supposedly got up to 50 today, but sure didnít feel like it with the wind.

Sharon: The printer is @ least 5 yrs. old. Canon. We replaced it with another Canon. I am glad we found one! Have heard horror stories.

Yes, Jas is still using the lidocaine patches. They help a lot. Glad of that for sure. Yup . . . sleeping through the night. I get him tucked in bed after getting Miss Lilly out. Then I get Miss Lilly and myself tucked in. Usually asleep before the head hits the pillow.

HUGS ladies.

Happy Wednesday to all you wonderful women!

Oh Barb! So sorry that your printer died. How old was it? May it rest in peace. Thank goodness you were able to get one!

Very happy to read that Jason is doing well without his walker! Each day getting better! Still using the patches? Restful sleep?

Sun out here today, and in mid 50s. Breezy again today. 50s and sunny for you is great this time of year for you, Barb.

Hope the rest of you gals are having a good day, and week, too.

Well, off to make lunch. Catch ya later!

Sorry ladies, had a lapse in the brain yesterday. Looked in with every intention of coming back to visit, at 10 last night I realized I hadn't, decided to not break my rule of no computer after 8.

That is great that Jas is doing so well, it is too soon for him to abandon that walker be patient. I saw something funny the other day, an in home nurse was greeted with a questionnaire and temp check by the patient...all in good fun. I wish she had shared some of the questions, which I think were part of the fun.

Sharon you spoil so many with your good cooking that I think there'd be a revolt if you did take out. No, it was just Buffalo wings actually this place has big ones. No one around here makes decent Nashville hot wings, the original place is across town and still has a line even for take out. They have a tame version of them which are good, spicy but not so hot.

I just looked at the grocery sales, no thigs on sale this week maybe I'll give it a go next week Sunny. Out of our pool tribe there are only three of us going, two of us in the am the other later, the rest are staying out so I understand your Sis' concerns especially since those pools are so public. I'd probably stay home too if it were public. That is great she is doing exercises at home, every little bit helps and it breaks up the monotony of being home.

I just shake my head when I hear new normal...likely many of those accepting it were the snowflakes of 4 years ago.

Thiry, Tika and Marsha hope all is well!

It got collllld here last night, very low 30's, sunny out now tonight not quite so cold and then we will have a warmer Saturday. Crazy. Other than that, nothing interesting going on here, not even boot scootin' boogeying. Everyone line up and lets just boggey a bit, Jas you may sit down and just move like you are on your feet; get some arm exercises in.

Lots of prayers to our military and first responders and our Country.

Oh forgot to link...and I know boogey is misspelled

Sharon: Yes! Jas walked all day today w/o his walker. KUDOS! Hs is getting stronger. We were sent home w/some PT exercises from the therapist @ Mayo Clinic, so, at least he has those and is not losing strength. This is just an awful time to require services with the virus. **SIGH** But weíre going to make this work.

Happy Tuesday ladies!

Sunny, you are so right that it is a win-win to let someone else do the cooking - always!

I have your Firecracker Chicken on my menu ideas for a future meal, Sunny. I'll have to remember to buy "thigs" next time! You can't to wrong with baked pork chops with butternut squash - they pair so well together. Another match made in heaven!

You don't hear the phrase "boot-scootin' boogie" that often anymore. I love it! What movie was it? I agree with your opinions, Sunny and Barb. So sad about the holiday, too. I refuse to send out the vibe that this is the "new normal"!! I am sending out different vibes, and lots of prayers on high!

Sunny, I can understand your sister's reluctance in going to the pool given what's going on. She says she is doing her exercises so if that is the case, it's good. Yes, the calls have been more frequent which is nice.

Sorry to read that Jas will have to wait till the end of the week to have PT. Good that he has some to do in the meantime. How was today for him? How great he walked without his walker some yesterday. You are right - no absentee solo walking without walker! Any of that repeated today?

Hope the rest of you ladies are having a good week as well.

Prayers for our families, country, military, and 1st responders.

Enjoy the rest of your evening! emoticon

Tuesday: Well, have to wait till the end of the week to have PT for Jason. Tough w/Covid.

Dark, dank, rainy, gray and windy day yesterday. HOPE today is a little better.

Jas walked w/o his walker yesterday. Did well! Told him only do that when I am with him!

HUGS and have a terrific Tuesday.

Sunny: Yes, Iíll take the help where I can get it! Thatís for sure.

LOL! Letís hear it for Ďthigsí!

Good afternoon everyone.

So good to hear Jason is improving day by day! Sometimes, takeout is the best option. Good for you.... I know how to make chicken fried steak too but it is a win-win to let someone else do the cooking.

I cooked firecracker chicken again Sunday Night only with "Thigs" and I liked it a lot better. Had leftovers last night. Tonight it will be baked pork chops with butternut squash.

Things have sure changed. We were watching a movie that had a dance scene in it with lots of boot-scootin' boogie in it. It is so sad that no one can't "dance the night away" these days. Ugh...

I don't like the "new normal" one bit!

Sharon, my sis is resistant to going to the pool and as of last week, the Kroc Center and the Y both have increase covid restrictions. She says she is doing her exercises so if that is the case, it's good. I need to but out and mind my own "beeswax". hehehe Glad you have regular calls with your Son and the grands.

Take care team and have a blessed day. I have some laundry to fold.

Love you all...Sunny

Sharon: Think tonight will be chicken soup from the freezer. Perfect for this cold day! Nice and warming!

It's Monday once again . . .

Barb, glad you had a quiet day yesterday.

Stay on 'em Barb!!! I know you're not letting anything slip by the wayside!

Sunny, and cooler here, too, and that's OK with me. Your comment about Miss Lilly was just too funny! Thanks for the laugh.

I'm motivated to be as positive and as happy as I can be today.

Hope it's a good day for all the rest of you gals today, and that you enjoyed a nice weekend.

Kelly were those Buffalo Wings you got last night, or Nashville Hot Wings? I'm intrigued by the Nashville Hot Chicken, but am sure it's way too spicy.

Prayers for our military, families, country, and 1st responders.

Will check back in later with youse guys. My brain is busy trying to decide what to cook for dinner.

The Masters is over, it was quite the sight to see it without the Spring colors except the encore azaleas were very much in bloom. Didn't dig out any of the shirts or even fix anything special this time. I just went up the road and got wings which I think I did last year.

We had a brief downpour before the sun was up, thought someone had turned the fire hose on otherwise windy still today but nice. And that is about all for today.

Happy to hear that Jas continues to improve and yippee that Clara is doing so well.

Sharon you can't get a call from up the street but Alaska can call, makes sense. Glad he was able to get through!

Sunny, Thiry, Tika and Marsha hope you all had a great day.

Hugs and Prayers to all who protect us!

Kelly
