CBarb have a GREAT graduation trip! I know how many buttons you're busting.

Thiry, don't know if it applies where you work, but something that has worked for me with SOME bosses is to drag them behind the cube door and show them my list of stuff I'm working on when they hand me something new to add. Then I ask them which of these other things they would like me to move DOWN the list of priorities to get the new thing done, since I only have X hours in which to cover it all.

Amazingly, some bosses decide I'm already busy enough. Others make a choice and something gets re-assessed. BUT, of course, there are those few (and yours may be one) that say "do it all anyway". Just sayin', something has to give.

Thinking of you all, praying for service members AND our families.

- Barb

High five to your son, Roguenomad - that is quite an accomplishment. Brag all you want!

Cbarb, Bright red huh, love it.

Rest easy Sharon, oh dark thirty comes mighty early. You'll be fine, we'd all be anxious with all that is going on out there.

Gee Thiry, here's hoping life on the job gets better for you SOON. Hope his wife is only a temp fix until they hire someone who can help. And that's all I'll say about that. We'll keep your Mom in our prayers, sometimes you wonder what our parents are thinking when they keep stuff like that to themselves.

Got a busy day tomorrow and will have to be out in the worst of the heat. All ya'all Do try to stay cool and hydrated.

KELLY Ė yes, I am glad I got to meet Dick Cavetti also. In the 4 years that I have worked at the motel this is the first time I got a chance to meet and get a picture with any of the celebrities that have stayed there for the Comedy Festival or any of the concerts. I am just so glad that he was willing to take the pictures with me and made sure that I was happy with the picture that we took.
C-BARB Ė so glad that you got some good news. The Lord does work in mysterious ways.
SHARON Ė hope you have a safe trip
ANNE Ė lots of prayers that they are able to completely contain the fires
ROGUENOMAD Ė great news about your son passing his tests & graduation

Itís been a really busy week so far as my assistant was out of the office Monday & Tuesday. She was in North Dakota with the boss for a DOT audit for the company in North Dakota. We were expecting a really bad audit but they got through it with only a couple minor problems. She was back in the office today for her last day. Her family bought a grocery store and have required her to manage the store. This leaves me in the office with the bossís wife trying to take her place. The bosses wife just retired as a 1st grade teacher and needless to say she is so very slow and takes notes on the same thing numerous times. She isnít going to be even 1/4th as good as the one I just lost. The boss has already started piling some of the duties on my shoulders. I donít know how I am supposed to get the extra work done as I donít have time to do what I already have to do and now more. The only thing I can hope for is that his wife notices that I am swamped and says something to him about it. Needless to say I am not looking forward to going to work anymore as I am going to have so much more to do.
In addition to that I found out yesterday that my mom is having surgery Friday morning. She wasnít planning to let my sister or myself know but when my sister called her the other day comments were made that made my sister question what was going on so mom ended up telling her about the surgery.
Well need to see what I can get done before I crash from exhaustion.
Take care and have a good week.
Thiry

Hi All. . .Heading out at zero dark thirty to airport tomorrow to fly to Tucson. Begin drive on Friday afternoon. Posted a note as a blog today. Will check in as best I can with my phone. Would love notes, comments, whatever for motivation and support if you'd feel like it. I'm anxious and apprehensive about weather, fires, heat, etc. . . I am thankful that I can help my son do this.

Hope your lives are good while I'm on the road. Thanks ladies, I'll miss you . . .

Hugs,
Sharon

Thought of you over the week-end Anne, blazing hot temps and the fires on top of it. Hope they get them soon, stay safe. Awesome watching those C-130's do their job isn't it and of course those on the ground. Sharon have a great trip, oh I hope they aren't in the path of those fires.

I agree with Sharon, do the land tour, majestic it is It's okay to have location envy, especially in these times. We did the cruise only, hey I was headed up there alone because hubs only wants to go to Hawaii to get away. When he realized I was serious about going alone he changed his mind. Of course he loved it. The other day I was telling someone about the train and bus tours couldn't believe my ears when he said he'd like to do that - after we go back to Hawaii. Our bucket is, hubbys 50th college reunion in NYC next May (tradition to have the 50th ceremony on campus then party in the city) Alaska, Hawaii, the kids are talking about us all going back to Ireland. The whole family went back in '85. Since he's retired; not job traveling we really miss those miles and "free" tix! I'm laughing about tourist traps, Sunday John had on his fav tshirt from a bar in Juneau. We docked on Sunday in time to catch the NY Giants, headed straight for the nearest establishment to watch the game. To our surprise because it was wet weather we were the only tourists in there, and had a blast with them. They told us about a couple of out of the way businesses. One we still order salmon from.

Long winded for so early in the day, gotta get movin'. Everyone stay hydrated in this heat!
Hugs, Kelly

Hi guys, sorry for being AWOL, super busy with Primaries right now...all ends tomorrow..and starts again big time on Wednesday for November!

CBarb: AWESOME NEWS for you and your son. I'm happy for you.

It has been crazy hot here for June, and our elevation. We have TEN viscous fires going on around the state, with the worse one being in the Springs, just 17 miles from us.
The Air National was finally allowed to get their C-130s in the air today, and within hours had a 5% containment on the fire. There are 600+ fire fighters battling on the ground through canyons full of Pinion pines ablaze...they are doing such a sterling job.

Best wishes to all

CBarb, Alaska is not beautiful, it is MAJESTIC! I was speechless most of the time. Every bend was more scenic than the previous one. We went three years ago Thanksgiving. It was cold and snowy and only about 4 hours of daylight, but I LOVED every minute of it. The lowest temp while we were there was -10 F, and the warmest was 10 above. I hiked about a half a mile through hip deep snow in -5 degree weather to take a picture of MT McKinley, and the Denali range, and I'd do it all over again!!!!! If any of you have not been, you need to put it at the top of your bucket list! Don't cruise. Fly into Anchorage, and use it as a base. You get to see so much more of the countryside and the local culture - not the tourist traps.

Barb, so glad to hear that you heard from your son.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!! I'm off later this week to help my son move and drive cross country. So I'll be out of touch until after the weekend of the 4th. Pray for good weather for us please.

Now, keep in mind this is tongue in cheek, but this little devil emoticon thought wants out: "whyizzit that all these other moms get their kids stationed someplace I'd *want* to visit"... like Alaska, or Hawaii... and mine gets sent to...

As I said, tongue in cheek! I know my son's a reservist, and he only gets sent when something needs doing in his field... and that usually means moms visiting would not be welcome! I also know that's the way he wanted it, so I really have no gripe.

Hope you *do* get up there to see Alaska, CBarb... I hear it is beautiful.

Just wanted to share news. John called this afternoon. I canot believe this.

He found out that his orders are now changed . . . drastically. He is NOT reporting to Ft. Hood in TX then deploying. He is being stationed in Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks Alaska. I just cannot believe it!

Jason & I were shopping @ Walmart for a specific watch he'd requested (G Force by Casio) for his graduation. He was purchasing that and I'd run to get a few other items we needed. Jason called on my cell phone to tell me he'd talked with John on HIS cell phone and he had news. I couldn't imagine . . . I just kept thinking, "Now what?"

When I saw Jason (after running through Walmart like a woman possessed . . . well, I guess I was!) he had a 1/2 smile on his face, so at least I figured it wasn't so bad. That's when he told me about the change. I let out a whoop that scared the poor clerk! Sorry clerk!

Don't know what the future holds (well none of us does!). Just happy for what is now.

Prayers for our soldiers and us.

Having issues with MsMouse hanging up the curser or whatever she's doing, then if I catch Casper messin' with my freggies and h2o count, he'll be sorry. Several days I have put in one amount only to find it decreased later!

I love Dick Cavett, he doesn't look much different. Wish he had found himself another gig way back when. So cool you got to meet him AND get a picture with him!

It was a bazillon degrees and higher humidity here too. How did we ever survive without air conditioning? Guess that's the key word, conditioned-bodies adjusted. Sharon your Lazy, Hazy Days is a hoot, thanks for the memories. I thought of something yesterday but forgot what it was, brain fart. That's when I discovered a problem with MsMouse or whatever it was because it's gone for now.

Hugs to all you awesome Moms, careful grabbing that VitaD in this heat!

SHARON Ė that does sound like fun. We may have to do that the next time he leaves for a while. I wouldnít exactly say that he doesnít trust us to run the office; itís that he is constantly working even while on vacation. Everybody has his number and call him even though we tell them that he is on vacation. Some of his contacts have been in response to messages that we have sent to him also.
KELLY Ė love the saying on the t-shirt. I always say that I got cheated on one end when a comment is made about my being short but like this one better. Yes I think I could run the office better if he would let me but he doesnít know how to take time off. Last year when he was on vacation (an Alaskan cruise) he just about went nuts as he didnít have any cell service and it would have cost him $50/day to use the internet on the ship. It was a quite couple weeks on that end but it seemed like all h*ll broke lose here at the office and with the trucks and we were wishing we were able to contact him.
CBARB - Lots of prayers for you and your son. Try to get in touch with some kind of support and of course keep in touch with us here on the team. Just remember that no communication doesnít always mean a problem. Sometimes they just arenít able to get to a place where they can access the internet or phone service. My son that just graduated and was commissioned is only 21 so know where you are at.

I havenít been able to be on the computer much this week as last Saturday while at my daughters soccer tournament the wind was blowing and I got something in my eye (under my contact). I tried several times to get it out (moving the lens and drops). I would think it was out and then a while later it would start bothering me again. Between the games and working I didnít get a chance to take the lenses out until we got home Sunday night. Monday morning I took my lenses to work with me thinking that I would be able to put them in after I got there but no luck. My eye was as red as Santaís suit and sore. I could hardly see out of it and was having trouble focusing on what I was trying to do. My assistant got me a wet paper towel that I would hold over my eye from time to time but it hurt just having my hand over my eye. I stayed at work long enough to get the deposits done as the boss was still gone but had her run them to the bank as I couldnít keep my eye open in the light. When she got back I started trying to get a hold of my husband but after 2 hours gave up and called my sister. She came and took me home. Later my husband and I made a trip to the eye doctor in Columbus (42 miles away) and found out that I had an irritation on my eye from whatever got in it and that it had become infected. The doctor ended up putting 6 different drops in my eye at that appointment, 2 of which were drops to dilate my eye. He said he wanted it dilated to help with the inflammation. I am now putting antibiotic drops and steroid drops in my eye to help clear it up. I returned to the doctor yesterday and he was very pleased with the way it is healing but dilated it again because of there still being some inflammation. I have to continue the antibiotic through Monday and start working down on the steroid drops Saturday and again on Tuesday to end them on Friday of next week. It is a pain trying to work as I canít wear my contacts and with my glasses I still have trouble seeing the computer screen and then have to take them off to read anything any closer. I am getting a sore upper back and neck from leaning forward trying to do my work at the office.

Last weekend was an interesting one at the motel and if anyone has noticed my profile picture that I took at the motel when Dick Cavett checked in last Saturday night. He was such a down to earth man and always joking. He even told me to say that this was a picture of me and my long lost cousin if I posted it on the net. I laughed.

Hope everyone else is having a great week.

Thiry

See my drive by yesterday to tell CBarb deep breaths didn't make it.

Well here it is Summer, already? Almost July already? The Y has opened its new place where hubs does his hyperbaric, the trainers tell me every morning that the puter doesn't believe it is me and that I'm back again... Soon as he finishes with this I will be doing Sharon's suggestion of water walking again. He doesn't want to do this so I have to stay on him to get dressed and get him over there at 7:30so going over at 5a didn't work. Yes, tried different times during the day but there's always something else.

It was so danged hot very early yesterday and the air was so heavy even the skinny folks were complaining. But think I'd take that instead of the tantrums mother nature has.

Hugs to all you, may your heroes stay safe.

Thanks. I just don't know how I'll let him go after his leave ends. That's probably the part I'm dreading the most. But I know I'll find the strength in me if for no other reason, but that's what he needs.

He'll be 20 on August 10th. Definitely wise beyond his years with what he wrote. Breaks my heart.

Oh my dear Barb, my heart is heavy for you and I'm sure there isn't a dry eye from anyone reading what your son wrote. And he's how old? Wisdom and courage I guess doesn't know age.

We are all here, strong shoulders, boxes of tissues some cuttin' loose thrown in for fun. I don't think anyone lets go during deployment, first, don't be so hard on yourself.

Tough, tough day. Got a letter from DS.

He will be going to Ft. Hood. He gets 10 days leave after graduation (6 JULY). So, it seems then he really has to leave a little bit earlier as he must get to Ft. Hood on time. So not exactly 10 days @ home.

Apparently the units @ Ft. Hood deploy withing 45 days of arrival to Afghanistan. Oh, I was expecting and anticipating that. So, not shocked, just saddened.

His job: route clearance. He will work side-by-side with EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) teams on IEDs and UEDs (Unidentified Explosive Devices). Apparently 12 hr. shifts.

I am so scared for him. In his letter he says, "I chose this life and I've spent the last 4 mths. training for this. I will not fail, I will not quit and I will never accept defeat. Don't lose slleep over this. You all know I won't go down easy. And if I do go down it won't be without a hell of a fight." Ok, this is where I lose it totally.

I know I'll get through this, I know MANY of you have already or dealing with it right now. So, I know you all know the emotions I'm feeling.

Just wanted to share. **SIGH** Why is this damn letting go process so H-A-R-D!

Love is the root of all things good in life.

Sharon, love your idea of an office pool!
I've said it before, I think he can't stand that Thiry can run the place without him....

1Barb, saw this from a friend had to come by and give it to you (she had it on her t-shirt)

To add some fun Thiry, you should start an office pool for the number of contacts from your boss! Sounds like he has a real trust issue. . .

Ahhhhhh, yesterday was a good day at work. I was busy all day but got a lot done. The boss is on VACATION for a week. We only had 6 calls and 2 text/emails from him yesterday (yes we are keeping track LOL). Of course 3 calls were within about 5 minutes. This was a good day as he can call the office 6 times within about 10-15 minutes of leaving to take deposits or get mail. Hopefully the rest of the week goes as well as yesterday.

Have a great week
Thiry

Hope everyone is having a peaceful Tuesday. It's sunny out, so off to the garden I go.

KELLY - The only reason I thought about the Red Cross right now is because of the fact that I am working with the local chapter to get a support group started here that they are sponsoring since we lost the military supported groups earlier this year.

SHARON - Well if Monday morning was any indication this week isn't going to be any better than the weekend was. The morning started with "hurricane Bernie" as we sometimes call the boss coming in earlier than usual and wanting 4 different things right away as usual. It took me most of the day to take care of the 3 items that I needed to do for him along with the usual invoices, deposits and credit card payments. As he was leaving about 5 he looked at me and said "I hope you have a good work day while I am gone". I looked at him and smiles while I said "I will try". After he closed the door I was ready to jump for joy. I should be able to get a lot more work done now that he is not going to be in the office to cause constant interruptions. Then on top of that this weekend at the motel most likely won't be any better than the last as the "Great American Comedy Festival" is going on and most all the participants stay at the motel I work at. One good thing is that I will most likely get the "free" show as they comedians usually sit behind the fireplace talking and telling jokes half the night. It is like a private showing. In addition to that my daughter has a soccer tournament this weekend with games at 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday and 9 am and 4:30 pm on Sunday. Of course the tournament is a little over an hour drive so I won't be able to go home between the games on Sunday to take a nap after being up working all night Saturday night. I might be able to go to a campground near the river and try to take a nap in the camper that belongs to one of my drivers. I don't know if I will be able to sleep as it is supposed to be really hot this coming weekend.

Take care and have a great week
Thiry

See Thiry this is why you need to come by often, Red Cross was off my radar.

For a change the temp was better than it had been. All of you have a great week may everyone stay safe.

I'll tell you the ad banner at the top is one thing but sephora has it rolling and it's making the eyes flicker, maddening.

MAMA: first of all, I hope that things calm down for you! Good heavens.

Thanks for the tip about the Red Cross. I think I will look into that. I have a card from the day DS went to basics with the Red Cross #, so that's a good start. THANKS!

KELLY Ė the phone situation isnít fixed yet but we think we figured out the problem. Friday I made the comment about having to have the phone on the charger all night at the motel. DD asked if I wanted to use her battery (we have the same phone). She brought me her battery and I gave her mine. Her battery wasnít charged either so I put the phone on the charges. She did the same with my battery. When it came time to get ready for work my battery in her phone was fully charged, her battery in my phone only gained 1 bar. Saturday I went back and told them that even though I havenít received the new battery I already know that the phone is the problem and told them about switching batteries. They have ordered me a new phone again and it should be here by Tuesday. Hopefully that will solve the issues with the phone.

1CRAZYDOG Ė yes frustration does find us. This weekend at the motel added to my frustration (which I really didnít need). I am hoping that after Tuesday things will calm down at the office as the boss is leaving for his trip. He shouldnít be in much for the next 4-6 weeks so I wonít have all the interruptions that he causes. This week he was out of the office more than usual and I got all the bills entered for the Mobile Storage and Secure Storage so I could do the P&L for him to take to the bank before he left. I just about got all the bills entered for the trucking company, enough to do the P&L for last month also. In addition to getting caught up on all the bills I also reconciled all the employee credit cards (all 19) and several of the company cards as well as the 3 bank statements that came in this week. Needless to say I got quite a bit done this last week but still a lot to do yet to finish getting things caught up.
As for your son possibly deploying to Afghanistan, see if you can find an emotional support group to attend. It really helped me when I was attending the one I got started here until it got cancelled. I am now working with the Red Cross to get a group started through them to provide a support group for military families. We are planning our kickoff party in 2 weeks. The Red Cross is a possible place to look for a group for some support if you canít find a group sponsored by the military in your area.

Things were very hectic at the motel this weekend. Last night the owner (who lives on site) called to see if I had been getting noise complaints from the guests because of the sand volleyball. I told her no but having other issues such as the elevator call button not working on the 3rd floor. You could take the elevator up to the 3rd floor but you couldnít get it to come up by using the button. I had a room ask about a rollaway. I checked and we still had one left Ė on the 3rd floor. I took it to the area by the elevator & left it so I could go down the stairs to the second floor and take the elevator back up to the 3rd to get the rollaway. While on 2nd floor I heard the bell at the front desk so ended up down there checking in a few guest rooms. I then got on the elevator to go get the rollaway but didnít realize someone had pushed the button for the 2nd floor so when the doors opened I kind of freaked as there wasnít a rollaway sitting there so I started walking around to the other end to see if it was anywhere only to then realize I was on the 2nd floor. I then turned around to go back to the elevator only to hear the bell at the desk again so turned around and took the steps back down to the front desk to check in a few more guests. I then left and finally got the rollaway from the 3rd floor and delivered it to the room on the 1st floor. I went back to the desk and the phones went wild. I needed to deliver stuff to several rooms and go to one of our hot tub rooms and help get the hot tub running for the guests. I had to remove the front panel and push the reset button on the outlet under the hot tub. I had to do this on Friday night in another hot tub room also. We also had lots of kids running around the motel. On Friday while I was looking for some blankets for a guest I had to call a group of kids down for running and screeching in the hall. Last night I had some using the couch in the lobby for gymnastics. About 1:30 I had a group of people coming back to their rooms from the Sand Bar and practically screaming as they walked down the hall. I opened the gift shop door and had to yell to get them to hear me over their voices and tell them to quiet down as people were trying to sleep in the rooms they were walking by. One guy walked passed all the others and come to me and made a comment about the noisy group. Come to find out this guy was the hired security for the night. I think I did more to control the people than he did. He then got his paycheck from the drawer, walked up to the second floor then came back down, clocked out and left. Luckily I didnít have any more problems with the guests after he left. I was on the go all night last night (I usually have at anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours of down time per night). When I went to the breakfast kitchen (I was late getting there) I found that the breakfast girls that worked Saturday hadnít restocked stuff. I decided to heck with it, I put the stuff out without restocking for them. I figured they could deal with it themselves while trying to keep the food supplied for 230 guests this morning. Needless to say I was sore and exhausted when I left to head home this morning.

Take care and hope everyone has a great week.
