I agree, changing what you eat will help (basically portions).

But I would have to say not eating when you are not hungry and stopping when you are full (satisfied) is main concept in losing weight. At least for me..

Like you, I have the working out down..

Fried Chicken is not the enemy! It's the fact that you sat up there and ate 4 pieces, that's the enemy.

Thanks ladies for all of your responses. I have to report that in 5 days, I've lost 3 pounds and am ecstatic. Now I'm sure it's probably just water weight, but I'll still take it. My body's getting used to eating less although yesterday was a bit of a challenge partly because I think TOM will be here in a week or so. My workouts haven't suffered either; still doing cardio and strength training every other day. I'll keep you up to date on my progress.

Shamekialb that is a good idea but you also want to shock your body with a different workout routine. The body gets accustomed to the same thing after a while that's why they say you should change it every 4-6 weeks. Like lifting weights heavier than what you are doing. If doing one form of cardio change it. I do what you are doing with the food. During the week I eat on my low end and on the weekend I eat on my high end even going over sometimes (but with healthy stuff). My new fitness program month starts July 1st. I will be lifting heavier weights and leaving step aerobics to go to kickboxing. Try changing whatever you are doing because you have to break the plateau. Best of luck to you.

If I can see it, then I can achieve it.

RodHub - You are so right! What used to be in and out @ the grocery store is now extended by 30 to 40 minutes, because I'm reading everything. But that has also helped me to choose differently, and select more natural foods that don't need a label. Plus, I had to get a new pair of glasses to keep in the car, because I think "they" don't want you to read the labels, they're so small! emoticon

Not for me. It is more the workout. I never changed my calorie intake I just made better food choices.

I believe its all in the portion control. I eat mostly whole grains, no junk food and stay within my daily caloric limit and that seems to work for taking the pounds off.

However, I found that doing both aerobic exercise and strength training changed my body the most.

The types of foods is what has made the difference for me. I use to think a calorie is a colorie but If I eat oatmeal and an apple as oppose to toast and jellu the oatmeal and apple will digest better and cause the pounds to come off quicker.

Cutting back helped a little (given how much I work out, it actually wouldn't have been smart to go down to the caloric levels SparkPeople recommended), but WHAT I ate for the same 1800-2000 calories really made the difference. Cutting out sugar was a big, big thing.

I changed the way I ate and what I ate. Only grilled, broiled, poached or raw. Out with the sugar (all forms as much as possible), never liked salt so that wasn't a problem. I try to eat as natural as possible so therefore I spend a great deal of time reading labels in the supermarket. Food is now what I splurge on rather than shoes. Eating healthy food can be expensive so I go to pick you own farms (especially now with blueberries and strawberries), Planted a small garden with lots of herbs. No hard liquor ocassionally a glass of wine.
I also eat 5-6 times a day to keep from getting hungry as that's when I overeat. I never go shopping hungry. Keep nuts (almonds) and water inthe car.

I agree. When I changed the way I ate, the pounds dropped. I mainly ate fruits, veggies, chicken, fish, and turkey. I cut out the 3 whites (flour, sugar, and salt) It may seem extreme, but I did this b/c of me having MS. You can be really creative when preparing meals. I created a different fruit smoothie each day.Yum!! I've strayed a little recently and I can tell the difference. Good Luck.

Not for me. Changing the way I eat has helped me to become successful and to lose the weight faster. Cutting back just only made me hungrier.

Thanks ladies for your response. I ask the question because as far as myself is concerned, I'd say that I have the working out down pat, BUT the eating is what's tripping me up. I'm stepping up things by cutting way back on what I'm putting in my mouth to see if I'm able to progress. I've decided to commit to this for 30 days.

I would say eating less has been the most successful in my weight loss but being able to work out has changed my body shape. So both works best for me.

how many of you would say that cutting back on what you eat has been the major factor in your losing weight?
