I managed to do the turkey bowling challenge this time. I don't know why I felt overwhelmed with the math trying to figure this one out - and I like math!

It has helped having a walking challenge at work to keep me moving for the miles.

I was able to do the nutrition challenge easily this time. Being on vacation, I had two different kinds of fruit for breakfast and salads for lunch and dinner. Too bad I can't afford my own personal chef!

Wanted to also share this quote I got.

"If you fell down yesterday, stand up today."

This quote belongs to Herbert George "H. G." Wells (1866 - 1946).

Today is another day and the opportunity for a new beginning. It is a gift, and that is why it is called "the present." Do not let a bad yesterday, spoil a good today. Toddlers put this lesson into practice every day. We, as adults, can learn from them in this instance. Have you watched a baby learning to walk? The baby falls many times in the process, cries in some cases but never gives up. The toddler is back on his/her feet in a flash and tries again and again. Adults have a great deal to learn from children to stay focused on tasks at hand. Many times in real life, as an adult, we get sidetracked from the overall objective by other things competing for our attention. It takes a great deal of effort and determination to ignore the unimportant and focus on the important things in life. So, stand up today, and start walking/running towards success!

My grandma used to mash potatoes and turnips, or potatoes and rutabaga together... I've never had it, though.

I've heard some suggest 1/2 mash potatos, 1/2 riced cauliflower... wonder how that would be?

also saw someone suggest 1/2 mash potatos, 1/2 mash turnips or parsnips...

I wonder if that cuts the strong flavors of the cauliflower or turnips/parsnips

a sparkfriend suggested a zucchini noodle lasagna... with the tip to be sure to presalt the zucchini noodles to pull out excess water... recipe appears to have good instructions... thinking of trying it... as a zucchini dish... (grins ;) I dont' want to be disappointed it just isn't lasagna...

I agree... when making into a mashed potato like dish it still tastes like cauliflower. I like the flavor and actually prefer it to the potato. Now in the fried rice like dish, the spices overtake the cauliflower taste.

But...it still has the cauliflower flavor. I like cauliflower, however, I wish I could lose the flavor of it for some dishes. Ex: when I'm trying to sub it for mashed potatoes.

Thanks! We've been using cauliflower a lot to sub for potato, and sometimes pasta. Absolutely LOVE loaded caulflower! I haven't actually tried ricing it yet, but I've heard it's great!

What about riced cauliflower? I've used that for pasta, potato, or rice and surprisingly, it is good. I wonder how zucchini would do if rice.... doubt you could get it that small and still hold it's shape. I do zoodles often for a noodle substitute and it's good also. Good luck with your diabetic aunt.

It is a little high in carbs, but my diabetic aunt is Italian, and sometimes she craves pastina (tiny pasta cooked with baby carrots, creamed spinach, or eggs). I'm curious if there is a starch-free substitute! Lol

I've used quinoa as a pasta substitute and it was good. It's got a bit too much carbs for me, but is it better, less processed than pasta.

Jessie and I are on the same wavelength. When I read the recipe, I thought two things... first...riced cauliflower and second... when will my mint be grown enough to harvest. I am thinking next week.

Today to include with dinner I made a quinoa tabbouleh. I cooked up a cup of quinoa let it cool. I added cherry tomatoes, cucumber, green onions, mint, dill, parsley, green onions and feta cheese. Salt, pepper, for seasoning. Juice of one lemon and olive olive for the dressing. Yum!

These are things we all know but thought I would share again as a reminder, info from Mayo Clinic

Bonus 5 habits
These bonus habits can help maximize your weight loss during Lose It!

The Add 5 Habits and Break 5 Habits in Lose It! are must-dos. The 5 Bonus Habits here are optional but recommended. They're all associated with weight loss. The more of them you follow and the more closely you follow them the more successful youre likely to be in your weight-loss efforts.

1. Keep food records write down everything you eat.
Record keeping lets you know exactly what and how much you're eating. It also allows you to identify problem patterns in your eating behavior. People who keep food records are more successful at weight loss.

2. Keep activity records type of activity, duration and intensity.
Track the variety of activities and exercises that make up your day. Keeping a daily activity record for at least two weeks helps you to be accountable and should help you establish a regular exercise routine. Seeing your progress can build confidence and inspire you to set higher goals.

3. Move more walk or exercise for 60 minutes or more every day.
Increase your walking or exercise to 60 minutes or more every day. This doesn't have to be 60 minutes in addition to the 30 minutes or more recommended as part of Add 5 Habits. It's 60 minutes or more total. Of course, the more the better, within reason.

4. Eat "real food" mostly fresh, and healthy frozen or canned food.
Food is processed to make it safe, available and convenient to use, but the processing may add unwanted fat, sugar, calories and salt. "Real food" is loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients. Fast food is often filled with empty calories. Not everything that's processed is bad but it's up to you to make the healthiest choices. "Real food" is often grown more locally and doesn't have as much packaging.

5. Write down your daily goals what motivates you each and every day.
Your overall weight goal can often be met through a series of smaller performance goals that build on one another. Goal setting keeps you motivated and helps you stick with your program.

Didn't get the bingo cards all filled in this week - super busy at work, but I at least did all my tracking and walking. Even so, I was up 0.6lbs. I will just say I had super sodium the day before weigh in. Why don't I think of these things the night before. After we ate, I thought - oh no, this will affect my weigh in.

I need to go and update my miles walked section of the challenge.

Was able with making one modification to the berpes to finish all the tasks on the fitness bingo. Yeah me!

I also wanted to share a favorite exercise, I think balance and core strength is very important especially as you get older., So I do the yoga move a tree pose, I am able to hold it for nearly 1 minute. But anything that helps to make the core stronger is a good one to try.

I was able to get all but 3 tasks done on bingo, but not feeling too bad about it since I've done way more this week than I ever expected :)

Fitness Bingo is almost complete only 5 more tasks left. Nutritional Bingo I need some work on (not sure about that one).

I tried kickboxing and love it, it is even more energizing to music. I aim for at least 70 cardio minutes 5 times per week and reach it most weeks.

My healthy food are pretty normal, I love tuna on whole wheat and no added mayo, sometimes plain greek yogurt if I want to spice it up.

Bingo Cards almost complete!!

I normally do at least 6 hours of Cardio each day.

My favorite forms of exercising are walking my Yorki, riding my stationary bike and working out on my Total Gym.

I love making smoothies and Protein shakes.

Hope everyone has enjoyed the Bingo!! I always love it and this time it seemed even better.

Back home from a very long trip and working away on that Bingo card! Making headway. It's a great way to get me to look up some new exercises. I'm hopping down the bunny trail...does that count too? lol

Almost finished with the Bingos.

I have a goal of 100 cardio minutes this week. Getting back in the groove after a major relapse with MS.
I ate cantaloupe, quinoa, and cabbage...not all at the same time emoticon

I am managing to do this BINGO quite well. I am using my actifry to do up delicious cooked veggies. Aquafit is my favourite exercise. For Cardio minutes I always try for at least 200 minutes per week.

I do add some cinnamon to it since I love it. I make up a batch and freeze for a easy breakfast.
I hope you enjoy.
