That material would make some lovely masks.
I did find a fall mask but the only Christmas ones I see are online so far---got to keep looking for that.

. This is a wrap around skirt I've just finished. The person I made it for had purchased the fabric for two skirts. Hers is this one. It also reverses to a robins egg blue. The other was a skirt I made for myself, with solid yellow & teal dragonfly fabrics. Then I hemmed up curtain panels. Next I make a few masks with the butterfly fabric, as she's going to need them for a wedding.
I agree with you, PinkGranny; it is nice to be able to work on something else besides masks all the time.
I saw the pix of snow, online today. Brrr. Pretty to look at, but glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

Nice that you could make all those masks but understand wanting to do something different. Boy, do I hate wearing those darn things but they won't let me just wear my face shield at school, even though there are no children except those kids and I can stay away from them.

I've made so many masks I got a little tired of it. Last night I finished a pin cushion that I embroidered several years ago. It isn't as firm as I like but that is because the lining made it difficult to stuff that to the gills. But...it is done and I tossed the old one. Now to finish a re-design of a Thanksgiving pillow. Getting these works in progress done contributes to purging in my sewing/craft room.

Our special needs kids are coming back---the ones in wheel chairs and needing more care---you would think those parents would want to keep them home in a safe environment---but we are really just a babysitting service for those kids and give the parents a break.
I will work from home the 2 days my student will be in the room---her one-on-one will be with her. She has to put on PPE stuff ---so what happens when all the kids come back---which might be right after Thanksgiving.
I can take the mask off when I am in my room at school but have to wear it when I go out of there---but when the kids come back I will have to wear it full time. I am not looking forward to that either.
Our restaurants can have 75% but still have to maintain the social distancing---so most are stuck at 50%---I see a lot of businesses will be closing by next year the rate it is going.
No Red Hats here still.

It's unfortunate that your face shield isn't considered ok to wear at work. I would think those would be better than a mask.
Our Gov took off the restaurant restrictions; they're able to be at 100% capacity now. As far as I can tell, that makes more ppl nervous than anything else. I've been ok with going out to places that aren't crowded. Local areas are still keeping their same restrictions, which I 'spose are considered more like "suggestions" instead of mandates. We still wear a mask when out in public.
We've had the conversation, here at home, about feeling more comfortable with a mask on during a traditional cold & flu season. Have heard others say the same thing. Maybe that is something that the general public should've been doing all along. Now that we're all used to wearing them, it seems like a good idea.
After sewing 30 masks for son/DILs work, am about to make another wrap around skirt for a friend. She's requested a mask to match, which will be easy peasy. Never in a million years did I think I'd ever be making those & so many.
Hope y'all are keeping well.

I am back at work. Schooling is virtual right now but I still go to the school to work most days. I can stay at home but I am so tired of being at home that I am glad to go.
Still no red hat activities here---miss that. Wondering is we will start back up or not. Restaurants still not up to full capacity in my state. We try to go once a week somewhere to help them out financially.
Wish I could make masks---but no machine and couldn't use it if I had one----they don't like me! Unfortunately, they won't let me wear my face shield at work---I have to wear a mask when out in the public areas but can have it off in my classroom so I stay in there most of the time.
Nice to hear from the 2 of you.

Thought I would stop by for old time's sake. A lot of the members have gone but good to see some activity. We are wearing masks everywhere and I have sewn so many...not sure I want to make more but never say never....

We are all wishing away 2020 and hoping/praying that 2021 will be "normal" again. This pandemic has stressed us all out enough that we don't need any other crisis, not even inclement weather. Anything that feels normal is welcomed. We've seen our son & DIL only twice, in the last 6 months. 1st visit was in a parking lot, exchanging brief hugs. 2nd visit was at a restaurant. At home, we're busy with everyday stuff, including swimming at the community pool (which we sometimes have to ourselves.). Water aerobics class has been crowded, so we don't go.
I actually had someone give me some Mickey fabric. I'm almost afraid to use it. lol. My mask sewing sometimes requires making up something that will work. Yesterday, I made my SIL a modified bandana mask. It has ear elastics, but is like a scarf in the front. Since the patterns for those kind use a crazy amount of fabric, I made up my own....which uses much less.
Exercise. Ugh. Somedays I am organized & do yoga, bicycle riding & swimming. Other days I only swim. I have to space things out so I don't get too sore. Yoga is a new thing, for me. I found a CD that's meant for seniors, so they aren't doing anything that will hurt (that much.) Once I'm used to it, it will be better.
How are you doing?

Nice that you are making masks for others. If I had to wear a mask, I would want some Disney ones---LOL---right now I just wear a face shield when I go out so that I can breathe---and we are doing virtual school until the end of January---so I am not sure if I have a job or not---so aggrevating. I will probably be tutoring my grands and helping them out with the work.
We got lucky with the storm---lots of tornado warnings---none near my home but about half an hour away houses torn from their foundations. Trees uprooted and power losses in other places. Luckily it moved thru quicky.

I've been busy sewing masks, the latest has been an order from a teacher who needed them to be fitted & comfortable, light colored fabrics and no prints. I'm also making some really small ones for 4 yr old twins. All patterns are found free, online. It's the figuring out which will work for a person, so I made tiny samples & teeny tiny samples. Sometimes ppl bring me their own fabric to use, or I just use my own scraps. I haven't charged for the masks. I have another friend who likes to barter with me. She wants me to make her a reversible wrap around skirt. We were talking about it. Next thing I knew, she was bringing me fabrics for 2 skirts, thread & pattern. She had picked fabric for me, and for her. I told her I'd make mine first, just incase there are any bugs to be worked out. I'm nearly finished with the 1st skirt. I decided I didn't want mine totally reversible, but that I like the extra layers. I just want them to be more flowy & loose. It's a solid yellow, and teal dragonfly print on the front side. I just knew that I wouldn't wear the yellow side (b/c I can see the other print & that would bug me. LOL). Her skirt is a beautiful yellow with butterflies, then a robin eggs blue solid for the other. She has good taste! Sewing is keeping me busy. That's a good thing.
I've been watching the TV discussions about school starting up again. Frustrating to watch. I sympathize with you.

We have been required to wear masks since the whole thing started---don't see where it has helped any---but it makes some people feel better about being out. When I go out in my shield, others ask where it came from. I think older people are finding a lot of issues with things due to the mask wearing---breathing in our own CO2 if not good for us---and even younger people are experiencing headaches and other issues from wearing the darn things.
We were sent a survey to fill out on what we were comfortable about doing for the school year. I am ready to go back and after the fiasco of online teaching at the end of the school year, we need to be in school at least some of the time. Right now on the board is continuing online only, have half the kids one week and other half the next, or students alternate every other day. I think that is an awful choice myself. They are also offering for parents who don't want their kids to come back that they can continue to do online learning if the others come back to school. I hate being in limbo about my job for the next school year.
I went to Walmart by myself yesterday---it was like a mini vacation away from my Dh---LOL---i wandered the whole store just because I could---LOL

We aren't having any Red Hat mtgs here, either. Just when we thought a picnic lunch would be nice (each bringing our own & social distancing), a Covid-positive scared us away for the time being. We're all missing when life used to be "normal."

Keeping a food diary; trying to figure out if my blood pressure is the problem. It's usually normal; but, when my stress levels are up....so is my blood pressure. Have been keeping busy (for the distraction); other times, it just seems good to take the time off from everything. Water aerobics have started back up. We've gone a few times. Pool is perfect this time of year.

Masks just became mandatory in our area, too. Seeing the discussions on the logistics of schools opening up is interesting, to say the least. I can't even imagine how it's all supposed to work.

Nice that you have mask making to occupy your time. Sorry about your dog but better than watching it suffer. Will you get another one? Everyone here wears masks. It is mandatory. I wear a face shield as I cannot stand the mask for too long. I had to wear one at the eye doctor---when I was alone I had it off. Glad you are taking care of yourself---that is important, I need to find a gp for myself but at this time that is kind of difficult.
Miss seeing my Red Hat friends---even though restaurants are open, they only can seat 50% capacity and not doing large groups.

I'm sorry I've not been on SP for a couple/few weeks. Unfortunately, we had to make the awful decision of putting our dog down. She was so loving & leaves a giant hole in our hearts. We still see her around every corner. We miss her so so much.

Distraction is good for me, so I've been keeping busy around the house. While I don't advertise that I'll sew masks, I've been sewing quite a few masks for family and friends. 1/4" elastic wasn't avail, at first, so I was making them with the t-shirt ties. My backordered elastic came in, eventually. We ordered it assuming that mask wearing would be around for awhile. Just this week, I've had requests for masks for a teacher & K students. Thank goodness there are always free patterns to search for. I've made my samples for them to try & we will proceed from there. I'm including a couple pics. My cutting mat has 1" grid on it, so that shows you how tiny the masks are.
we don't go out very often, so wearing a mask is not that bad. It fogs my glasses, but, at least I'm only having to wear it for short periods. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to wear one all day.
When we're out & about, only some ppl are wearing masks.
Sorry this is so long! I have a follow up DR appt; altho she said I could cancel it if it didn't seem necessary. Headaches are keeping at bay, mostly. Blood pressure is normal at home readings. Keeping a food diary & have lowered my coffee to one a day. Am giving myself permission to take care of myself, when my usual would be to just put myself on the back burner.
It's hit & miss with supplies here, as well. Most things are out of stock, online. Hit & miss in the store. I wasn't stockpiling, but, I would buy two of this and two of that. This meant we could limit our grocery trips to every 2 or 3 wks instead of each week.

The tiny fitted mask is shown next to an adults small size. Looks like those tiny ones could fit a baby doll or teddy bear.

We went for a late lunch on MOnday and that worked out fine. Most people are wearing masks here---still state mandated here. Of course, in the restaurant you had to wear them in but can't eat with a mask on---LOL
Having you been wearing a mask a lot? I hear a lot of people are experiencing bad headaches---breathing in too much carbon monoxide wearing them. I know I am glad I have face shields to wear---I can't breathe in those darn masks---I am claustrophobic so they are not good for me.
Still holes where toilet paper and paper towels would be here---and meats can be hit or miss.
Hope you hear back from the doctor office. Hope the dog continues to improve.

When we go to a restaurant, we like to go earlier than the usual dinner hour. Monday is one of the best days to go BTW. We've decided that we prefer a restaurant where the workers are wearing masks, as opposed to no one wearing them.

Less than half the ppl had masks on, last time we went to the grocery store. There are still a few bare shelves. It's hit & miss.

I've been having horrible headaches. I'd been thinking it was bad allergies, but, need to make sure. Did not hear back from the DRs office, today; will try again tomorrow.

It was another good day for our dog. She doesn't put ALL her weight on the bad leg, but, puts some weight on it (instead of only tippy toes.). We keep praying for a miracle & that she'll be fine. We pray that the vets diagnosis was actually wrong.

I have missed meeting up with my Red Hats but know some of them need to stay apart due to health issues as most of us are older. I still haven't heard if we are going to do the July thing yet but kind of surprised no one hasn't sent an email on who feels like they could attend.
We did go out to eat on Monday----not crowded when we went but they said they had people waiting on the weekend---so we will just do weekday visits to a restaurant for now.

We are not planning on surgery. Some days are good and some days are not good (in whether she hobbles only on tippy toes or whether she actually uses her foot.) Today has been a good day. We hope & pray for more good days. We hope & pray that the vet was actually wrong about surgery being the only answer. We're most likely going to be changing vets over this.

I would like to see our red hats to do some kind of picnic, also. It would be a way to get together & still able to keep our distance.

Soon my hydrangea will look like your picture. It is just starting to open up and has lots of blooms on it---which is a big surprise and a few years ago it stopped blooming and I was ready to dig it up last year and it had one bloom so I left it--this year it has at least 25 blooms on it. It's a dwarf size plant and doesn't get great big like some hydrangea so it is perfect where it is. My hydrangea up front should probably be moved---I think it gets too much sun as it gets sunburnt leaves on it.
We are finally getting to go to a restaurant here, but only at 50% capacity---so we are waiting until Monday---go about 1 so others can go. Friday was my last work day this school year---although I really haven't worked for 4 months----crazy but glad I got paid---and sure hope we can go back in the Fall---I need one more year before I retire.
I take it you won't do surgery for the dog. It really is so expensive. Glad you will try to see if it improves---and next time demand to go in for a face to face consultation---this is not something to be dealt with over the phone. But at least the vet sees the animal---I really do not believe in this virtual medical visit over a phone crap.
Hoping maybe the Red Hats will get together next month---I think it was planned as a picnic at someone's house for July and the pool party in August this year---I know we can keep a nice distance at the pool party---she has enough space for us----and honestly, I am not too worried about getting together---we are all smart enough not to come if we feel bad.

I agree. We all need to be careful with our social distancing. But, some of this has gone too far. Dog went for her 2 wk check, to see how she's doing & if she's improved. She's only improved slightly, so it's not much. Vet is still only doing curbside service, so only the dog sent inside & not us with her. Phone consult & Vet recommended surgery, said nothing else will help & that dog has made no progress. That's simply not true. We're going to give it a couple more weeks to see if she continues to improve. We're not going to let her suffer, but, we want to also give her a chance to get better.

I'm still sewing face masks; also found a cute scrub cap pattern for DIL & she loves it. She looks really cute in it.

I'm glad your knee is starting to feel better.

Honestly, sometimes I think they are going too far with this whole thing. They should have been able to bring a tablet out with the xray on it to explain it or bring you in to see it.
Dh just had a foot doctor appointment. He has to wait in the car and they came out and took his temp and gave him the paperwork to sign before bringing him in---where he sat for 25 minutes in the room waiting for the doctor. But he had to be seen--how can a doctor trim toenails and callous without being seen in person. At least his feet were a lot better with wearing the new orthodics that he has been wearing.
I did get an appointment---for this Friday---like 11 days after I called. At least the knee is feeling better so I can do something---but if they are better, I need shots in my hips again so it won't be a wasted visit---but I do have to be seen in order to get shots. No way am I ever going to pay for a phone consultation like one doctor did with my Dh in June.
Flowers are opening up, veggies are growing, plants are in the ground.

Our "old" dog injured one of her back legs when she tried jumping on a bed & missed. (Altho, we weren't ready to think that 9 y/o is "old.") Trip to the vet, xrays.....she's slowly showing signs of imrovement. Barely using the sore leg. She really had us worried. If it were more than curbside service, we could've actually seen the xray....

Am hopeful for your getting the DR appt you need.

I think we are all ready to be out more. It feels nice to be able to be out, but, it also feels kind of weird to be out in public. We're out of practice for that kind of thing. emoticon

Nothing wrong with that. We have a student that loves them and has a lot of flamingo stuff--and I swear she has flamingo legs anyhow---LOL
Good for you in making those masks for others. I bought a face shield and love it----I cannot breathe in those masks. Plus the shield can be cleaned a lot easier than the mask.
We have had a cool May here and it has interfered with my gardening but I think this week I can finally plant my vinca. I definitely feel better when I can be outside more---I am so tired of being in my house.

We've been out and about a few times. It always feels weird to be in a store. I've sewn lots of face masks for friends & family. DIL works in a smaller hospital. I made her some masks to wear over her n95 mask. Was just discussing about sending her more (to take to co-workers. She gets compliments on the flamingo fabric I have. I'm one of those ppl who likes vibrant colors & fun prints. Plus, I'm gaining a reputation as the flamingo lady. emoticon ).

That sounds like so much fun. I wish I knew how to do that and could find a group to do it with. Yes, I agree---it is going to be tough getting together for a while---plus we are all older and they want us to continue social distancing after everyone else can go about----not going to happen with me---Even though I turned 65 on Sunday, I sure don't feel it ---except in my knees---LOL
Our state is just relaxing a bit on Friday---stores can open at 50% capacity and so can Churches---but not restaurants yet. I for one am looking forward to eating outside of my house again!

I was just thinking about how the restaurants that ARE allowed to be opened, are only at 25% capacity. I can't imagine that our red hat luncheons will happen anytime soon. At the very least, we have about 18-20. At the most, there are 35+. Nothing about that is ok by the new guidelines. I have some friends who have a line dancing class in their driveway. There's 4-6 who attend. I've gone a couple times. We're outside and keeping enough distance between. It feels good to do something besides staying at home.

Restaurants here are soon to open for 25% capacity. I fear this will hurt their business, as it will mean some get turned away. Idk. I'm back to sewing more masks for family. I'm glad things will be opening up, but, apprehensive. We're not in one of the hot spots. Of course, none of us want things to get worse, but, we can't stay closed forever. We all want life to get back to normal; whatever normal will be.

I love chewy breads but my dh doesn't--think because he has false teeth---that sounds good. We are trying to do the once or 2x a week take out for us, too.
We did find hamburger at the Acme---definitely more than I like to pay for it, but we definitely have more chicken than hamburger in the freezer. If is ever stops raining, Dh can cook it out on the grill for us.
Been a yucky week with cooler temps and rain every day---I need out of the house weather!

We've decided to order take out once a week. Yesterday was our day & I ordered a turkey & swiss ciabatta deli sandwich. I know cream cheese has it's calories, but....omygoodness, the sandwich had a cranberry cream cheese on it (looked like a homemade concoction) and was wonderful. I think that this can be made with chicken, if you're wanting ways to use chicken.

I usually boil chicken pieces, chopping into small pieces and use in casseroles. My new favorite is to make it into a simple chicken salad for sandwiches, or a topping for a green salad. Cut up chicken, some mayo, squirt of mustard, sprinkle of salt or pepper. You can add chopped up celery, onion, dried cranberries (any or all of these.) Another favorite are thick homemade soups. Again, this is something I eat & DH does not. White chili w/ chicken is a good one. Interesting that you were able to find chicken & no beef, when that is the opposite problem we had a couple weeks ago. Sure will be glad when this is all over with.

Happy Birthday to your grand.

We have been trying to support at least one place a week either by drive thru or pick up. We just went to Sam;s club---plenty of chicken but no hamburger--which we will need soon---so I told dh we will be eating a lot of chicken for now. Now I need to figure out different ways to fix it---but a lot of them are not good for someone who is diabetic---can't use rice, noodles are too much carbs, etc. Any ideas? I usually cook them in the oven with lemon pepper or he grills them. Only once in a great while do I try frying them.
Good for you in making those masks. I am not talented that way and do not have any material to use anyhow. I tried making the bandana no sew one for myself and put it on---Yikes---how does one stand to be in it for more than a few minutes? I have a bit of claustrophobia and can't stand things close up to me like that. Don't compare yourself to your neighbor---you have done well to do that many. We too often compare ourselves unfavorably and that is not good for us.
I made fudge for my gd for her birthday---filled up 4 tins for her---that should keep her for a while---LOL Her birthday is tomorrow so we are going thru the drive thru at Chick-fil-a and getting her lunch and take her a few items I have been able to pick up---mostly things to keep her busy while stuck at home.

How are you all doing? We went out for the first time in weeks. Grocery store wasn't as chaotic, this time. There were some empty shelves, but, not as bad as before. Everything was there that we needed. That's encouraging. Have gotten creative with what I fix for dinner. LOL. Today, we're going to try getting restaurant take out for the first time since this craziness started. I get tired of my own cooking, too. I've sewn 35 face masks, so far. That's nothing, compared to the 300+ that a neighbor has sewn.

Lecates, I think we're all getting restless. We're not going anywhere unless we have to, and most places are closed anyway. It is nice to have more time to get certain things done. I've been able to finish projects that I've only been able to THINK about. That part is nice. Parts of my life are the exact same, as regards to routines with the dog. Normalcy is good.
I agree with you about the DR fee for a phone call. Not sure how I'd feel about that, either. I hope you got some answers & DH is feeling some better.

Hi Cassie! How are you?

There are a few Red Hat groups in my area, but, they are usually part of a community. (The Red Hat group being just for their community members.) That seems to be the only types we have here. I tried to find a group in our city in MI, but was unable to. So, I'm glad to be part of one here. We don't just go out to eat. We also make donations to local organizations.
While everyone wears the red & purples, no one is being strict about it. I think it's a lot of fun to dress up, personally.

At least you could get it done. Dh got a call from a doctor yesterday saying that his appointment on Monday will be by phone. I am not sure I approve---we might as well just cancel it ---it is the urologist and the meds he gave him are not working, so I think he should be seen or just go off the meds that aren't working and he can go when things calm down. I don't want to pay a $30 fee for a darn phone call. It is something that can wait.
Our governor has limited us to no more than 10--so nothing is going to happen around here for a while. I don't think we will be going back to school on the 30th.

Our lunch gathering would've been today. Had to cancel. Idk about next month, yet. Today was the first time we ventured out in a week. Our dog needed a nail-trim and the vets office is doing curbside service. I called ahead (to make sure of what to do) then I called as soon as we arrived in their parking lot. They came out to get our dog, and brought her back out a few minutes later. We were at the groomers side of the building. I saw a person waiting for their pet outside the veterinarian's door. Hardly any cars in the parking lot. We wouldn't have gone if we didn't need to. She's a big girl. Waiting another month to trim them would've been way too long.

One of my straw red hats is fading. I've been thinking of spray painting it. Thnx for mentioning. I just may try it, after all.

It seems that the local stores (who used to carry a nice selection of red hats) don't carry them, anymore. I've found some red hat clothing at thrift stores. There are the online stores, too.

Hey Ladies,

There used to be Red hats everywhere but now they are really hard to find. A lady in my chapter took a beige straw hat and spray painted it red. It came out really well. I would never have thought of doing it.

Everyone in our group wears red & purple. I really enjoy it; those colors are the first thing I search for whenever I'm thrift store shopping. Thrift store shopping is always fun, anyway.

I agree--and when I retire, it will be nice to have a reason besides Sunday to dress up for.
I am going to the Philadelphia Flower show on Tuesday. I am thinking about making a headband while there and if I do, I think I will stick with Reds and purples so I have something different to wear to Red Hats. I will be at the show for 6 hours so I will have some time to do that while there.

I would not want to go out with that large a group---how do you get to know the other members with that many? And no way could one host them at home unless they have a huge house or it is an outside event. Our numbers flucuate, too, but I think we have less than 20 members ---only been once or twice that that many showed up.

That is just our one group. However, during this time of year it is snowbird season in the south. We have half that many during the off season. It is tricky finding places to fit us all. I often say that a big group can make or break a place. Sometimes a favorite restaurant is wonderful for an average night out (with 2-6 ppl) but awful for a big giant group. One cannot hold that against them, necessarily. Just depends.

That was a good waiter to keep you all straight---hope you all tipped him well. The snafu sounds more like a management issue than it was the waiter's. That sure was a huge group to go out together. Was this all one group or was this a combination of a couple of Red Hat groups? This seems like too big a number to easily find places that can handle a group that size----or at least around here it would be a problem.
We have had 3 new people join us so far this year--which is nice as some of the others seem to be missing in action quite a bit. But some are on cruises or vacations.

Had a group gathering for lunch. The reservation was originally for 45 ppl, and was updated to 35 ppl. When we got there they did not have enough seating for us. There were no place settings set out. They gave us dinner menus instead of lunch menus. Our waiter was excellent, I might add. Don't ask me how come there was only one; but, he kept track of all of us. No mix ups. During the meal, the manager was requested and spoke with our host. We were all given a coupon for a free appetizer. LOL.

I've managed to get another cold. Either that or really bad allergies. Ugh.

Hubby & I went out to eat for Valentines, yesterday, to find that everyone else must've had the same idea. It was ok. Just busy. We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary. Today, we will attend the wedding of good friends. emoticon emoticon

I hosted the Red Hat dinner this month. Had a nice turn out and 2 new people have joined---they seemed like a good fit for the group. I really enjoyed talking with one of them as she arrived early so we had a chance to talk before everyone else got there.
I ended up having to take off yesterday---couldn't bear any weight on my knee---luckily I got into the doctor and he had to drain it----feeling better this morning than it did yesterday afternoon so hopefully I won't need to go back next week for another drain---he said I might have to.

The good (but overwhelming) idea of having a Red Hat sponsored variety show, has changed to a talent show. The variety show would've been ppl acting out funny skits from a few long gone tv favorites. Lots of good ideas, but, not enough brainstorming of ideas, etc. Too much work for 1-2 ppl.

Hope all is well with you in this new year (that is zooming by so fast!)

You really have to pick a theme for those boxes---then it will be easier to fill. Like one could be a pampering one, one a relaxing one with a book, a candle, and some teas or cocoa, a cooking one like one for pasta, another one could be for cookie baking, another one could be a gardening one.
Started by putting away my Christmas clothes, socks, and jewelry yesterday. It was so warm here yesterday that we had the front door open to air out the house---I either have a cold or allergies.
NO plans for tonight----I will probably be asleep at 9 on the couch---LOL

What I put into the socks I gave: nuetral color nail polish & lip gloss, toffee candies & mints, and a purse sized flashlight (it was a pretty green color with bling.)

The sock I received had 2 purse size hand lotions, ballpoint pens, mint candies, and mini note pads.

I'm sure your gift recipients really enjoyed their gifts!

I have another gift idea I'm working on. You know those gift box subscriptions that are frequently advertised? There are themed ones, and there are general ones. The boxes cost approx $50 ea. I really like the idea, but, think that that is too pricey for me. I've decided to put together a box of random items that I've found. For now that means that I've picked up a couple yummy canned items I've seen at restaurant gift shops or craft sales. Altho, I don't want this to only be about food. Once I've done one box, maybe the next time won't take this long. I have no time limit, at the moment...

Happy New Year to you and yours!

I am glad the sock exchange was fun. What did you get in the socks you picked? Or was that the list for what was in yours that you chose? Too bad about not getting the packages out in time but maybe they will appreciate them more after Christmas.
I took your idea and filled a pair of warm slipper socks with travel size stuff for my teacher as they are headed to Florida the day after Christmas. She was very pleased with all those items.
Made 2 kinds of fudge yesterday with my son's gf's help and my son put up the wallboards I had ordered on my laundry room wall---they look great and were very easy to install. Then later we went to Ocean City to do the light tour down there. I started wrapping presents but still have a lot to do today ---hoping not to have too many left at the end of the day today.

Some of the gifts tucked into the socks (for sock exchange) were: a complete pkg of colorful dinner napkins that were rolled up like a taco (I couldn't believe they even fit!!), ballpoint pens, tiny pads of paper, candy, tiny flashlight, lipgloss, nail polish, bag clips, travel size handcream, ...
It was a fun gift exchange. The socks were brought to the party & set aside. The hostess drew our names, one at a time. Each person chose which pair of socks they wanted, as their names were drawn.

I'm not ready for Christmas. I did not get Christmas pkg's sent out on time. emoticon

It is always such a big let down after the big day. I am always glad to have something to do afterwards. This year our Ladies and Men's dinner will be 2 days after Christmas so that gives us something to do.
Yes, the February friends thing is much nicer and easier on the pocketbook, too.
I like that coffee cup idea as well as the sock. But I might take that sock idea as a way to make up a nice gift for friends at school. Get those nice cosy warm socks and fill it with a few goodies to give as gifts would be a fun idea.

Another idea is that what if each person chose a nice insulated cup (doesn't have to be a brand name, but could be. ) Cup could be be filled with goodies the same way as with the socks. I like the Feb idea b/c we are so busy during Dec.

To cut down on the holiday rush, I started a tradition with our kids that we did AFTER Christmas. We had one of those giant gingerbread man cookie cutters & would make the cookies the week after Christmas. I figured it helped with the after-Christmas-let-down. We all spend so much time before the holiday & once it's over...it's too quiet around the house (at least from the kids perspective.) Each kid would decorate their own cookie.

I love the idea---might talk to the one who does our school activities for staff and suggest it---maybe fore next year or do it for Valentine's Day---we do February friend thing then---like Secret Santa---to get to know different staff members---I always find this fun to come up with interesting little gifts for my secret pal.

The sock exchange was an idea I saw online. Each person buys a colorful pair of socks (like holiday socks, or striped socks....) and fills each sock with small stocking stuffers/candies/anything you find that will fit. Once at the party, the socks get exchanged. Every person brings a pair of socks, and everyone goes home with a different pair of socks than they brought.

Funny thing about this idea is that I tried to get our red hatters interested in doing this, but, no one seemed interested. I think it sounds like great fun. One of my friends decided to do the sock exchange at her Christmas party. I'm currently looking for the right pair....

Another idea could be that if one wanted to make it a wool or wool-blend sock exchange, for instance...or any idea that comes to mind.

that sounds like fun---Just regular socks? I would love to take part in something like that.
I have been busy putting up Christmas stuff. We didn't do the crowd shopping but we did go shopping yesterday and I bought a new desk chair. Hoping my son comes by to light my village scenes and put together the new chair.

Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend. We celebrated Thanksgiving early, at our sons' home. It's been a busy busy week, but, we've also had some needed down time.

I did not rush out to any stores for marathon shopping. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Am going to be part of a colorful sock exchange party (where we fill the socks with goodies & anything that will fit). The party host has asked me to sew up a stocking to be given out as part of a prize. That'll be my next project.

Here I am and can't sleep.....

Thankfully the teacher next door was able to run off some things for me to use.
We took the kids to the pumpkin patch on Thursday but it was not an ideal day---very cold and very windy. Thankfully I went into our laundry room and got them all sweatshirts to wear under their coats. The only one not dressed appropriately was the teacher---and she was the only one complaining about the cold---geeez---we did take the kids to Sam's club and I bought them all a slice of pizza and a drink---which made them very happy.
We went and paid for the shed for Dh yesterday--they had a cancellation and were able to deliver it the same day---so he has his new toy to play with---LOL

I agree with you about not ordering Italian food. I love to make that at home, but, will not order it at a restaurant unless it's an Alfredo sauce.

I would rather have chicken or a burger over most stuff in a restaurant---and not really crazy to go to an Italian place---I am picky about my sauce, too.
Glad you found some relief from the stress---it is hard to let it go---but necessary.
The teacher called out yesterday---and she is out today and Wed too. And left me very little work for the kids---grrrrrrr----but others are now noticing how much she is out.

I know what you mean about seafood & pricier menu items. I like white fish & the simple fish n chips, or fish tacos. But, I don't care for other types of seafood. I don't even care to order steak. I guess I'm just weird. Would rather have chicken.

I'm glad you were home when all that chaos was going on, too. Your vacation couldn't come at a better time.

I've been extremely stressed about everything, lately. About everything and everybody. It had really gotten me down. I was looking for a meme, of all things, pertaining to it....and happened upon an article about letting go. My first thought was that one can't always let things go when they're involving close relatives or in-your-face situations. It's more about how we let ourselves get sucked into the emotions of it all. To make a long story short, I think I'm feeling a bit better.....that I can let it go. It's for ones own sanity. (This doesn't mean that I won't get sucked into the next crisis. I'll just hope to be able to let it go, sooner.)

Quite the event--glad it turned out well.
We had a nice dinner meeting this week----but way too overpriced for what I got. I guess if I liked seafood and was willing to pay the bigger bucks it would have been better. Next month will be at an even more expensive place but I love their lamb shanks there and I am willing to pay the big bucks for that meal.
Was sick one day this week---glad I stayed home because it was absolute chaos at my school and they had to go on modified lock down for 2 days to try and calm things down---one kid was hurt and sent in the helicopter---but was back in school on Friday---crazy!
My vacation to Disney World starts in 3 weeks----woohoo!

Yesterday, our Red Hats hosted a community breakfast for 88 ppl. It was fun, stressful, chaotic, and again, fun. It stresses me out to be in charge of something, but I love the camaraderie in the kitchen. That part is great. Everyone had a good time. I was the one mixing up the eggs & milk for French toast (with NO recipe....b/c...uh....I don't need a recipe for making it at home...) we guesstimated how much milk & eggs for all that toast, oh my. It went well. Some leftovers, but, not too much. I much prefer not being the one in charge, tho. I'd rather just be amongst the helpers.

Glad the hair color turned out. I love my gray hair---never have dyed it---kids used to ask me why I didn't color my hair when it was more peppery---I said I earned each and every one of them with dealing with them----LOL
Nice that you got to enjoy old favorites from times with your mom. My food memories are from my grandmother---we always ate with her---Mom worked and Mommom cooked for all of us. There is a restaurant in the small town she lived near that is fun by family members of ours and they use a lot of the original Bradford recipes so it feels like eating at Mommom's house again. They even fry chicken the way she did---in a cast iron skillet and to order, not in a deep fryer. So yummy!
Got my Disney book to start finalizing my plans for my trip to Disney in November---just a little over a month away now.

Well, I got 2 haircuts in one day. The first one, then the 2nd one to try & salvage the first one. Diff stylist. Salt & pepper hair with big white blotches. Looks weird with the wrong cut. This morning I dyed it grey. Of all things. When it grows out a lil bit, the white blotches should be covered up. Meanwhile, the grey dye said it wasn't recommended for use on grey hair. I took a chance. Wasn't sure if I was going to be making the whole problem even worse. I'm happy with it.

I went to a soup supper. There were 2 kinds of soup to choose from. I chose the bean & ham soup. It was a favorite my mom used to make. The dessert they served today was peach cobbler. That, too, was another favorite my mom used to make. I felt like my mom was smiling down on me. emoticon

Hope the haircut is repairable---never fun when that happens---but also makes you want to go elsewhere the next time if they won't do something about it.

Hmmmm. Thank you for the feedback about the restaurant help. That makes sense. The first time it happened, we thought they could've used a 2nd waiter for our table. This last restaurant, we could see the wait staff waiting at the kitchen door for the orders to come up. With our large group, they weren't able to get everything prepared as quick. But, you're right, it's not like they can just call in another cook. Both places were not a large restaurant. Both were the type of restaurant with plenty of seating, but I'll bet is never really busy. Both places were the same type, a public restaurant in a gated community. Not set up to handle big groups, necessarily.

I've currently been stressing over a bad haircut way more than I should have. There are more important things in the world.

That doesn't make a group want to go back to that restaurant when they do that. Did anyone talk to the manager about that? But also wondering if the waitress is not putting the orders in soon enough---but if your group is that large, you also must expect this kind of thing to happen occasionally. They can't bring in an extra cook for just an hour or so plus they don't know what you want in advance to be better prepared. My dh used to manage restaurants so I understand a bit more about how the back runs---but also that the manager needs to be able to pitch in to help but not every place hires someone with those kind of skills either.
Things have been up and down at school---she still hasn't given them any papers to do---they did do some when she was out this week and I was teaching, but not as many as I would have liked to because I didn't have anything to draw from like I had last year.
Going to the school greenhouses today to volunteer.
I am hoping our next Red Hat event will be somewhere I want to go---I didn't go this month because of the location---nothing on the menu I wanted---and I think a lot felt that way as I think they only had 6 that went--usually about 12 of us at least.

I'm glad the day went better. I like it when things work out.

Our last 2 Red Hat lunch locations have been very nice BUT they haven't been very good about bringing our food out at the same-ish time. There were 25 of us. Two rows of tables. They brought food out to half the rows, while the other half didn't get their food until the first group had nearly finished. 2 completely diff restaurants that were not otherwise busy. It seems that if they would add an extra staff member or two...when they know we're coming...? We always give them an advanced reservation. There is plenty of time for planning. I think it's the same old problem everywhere. Just like the big store notoriously known for only having 2 registers open.

Oh dear. I hope things start to get better soon. Change is never easy no matter what anyone says. None of us like it very much.

Me, I think I'm always fighting off the worries and trying not to let it get me down. Keeping busy does help.

The new teacher is more challenging than the kids are---so not prepared and the kids are so bored and so am I ---let's hope it improves.
I am exhausted each day I come home---body needs to adjust.

I hope all is well with DHs wound, and that it's been improving.

Our area ended up doing fine during the hurricane, with no more wind than an afternoon thunderstorm. I've been concerned all day for those who are in the hurricanes path.

The prepping is never fun, but, I would rather be prepared. Maybe we'll get a little better at it.

Hope it doesn't hit your area with more than rain and a little wind. We might get something from it by Thursday/Friday. We have often put stuff in safe places and then nothing happens, but always better to be prepared. STay safe.
Dh was released by wound center on Thursday but it was weeping again yesterday so back into bandages again. The visiting nurse should come tomorrow and she can tell us if we need to call the wound center back---they said to call if it got worse but she did say there might be more drainage. I actually did a decent job on the wrapping yesterday.
Kids start back tomorrow---only the 6th graders tomorrow so we might only have a couple of kids but with our challenged kids, the parents often send them back anyhow.

I'm glad DHs ankle is gradually getting better. We've been prepping for the hurricane. Sorry I haven't been on here much at all. I keep forgetting this is a 3 day weekend. I'm usually fixing the usual foods, at least. Prob would've been getting together with DS & DIL. May not get to see them for a week or so, now. We put all outdoor objects away, including plants. All the prepping is fine. After awhile, one just realizes that it is what it is. One deals. Things have a way of working themselves out. (Taking a deep cleansing breath.) emoticon

Had our gd yesterday and took her to Ocean City after the visiting nurse changed dh's bandage. He is moving so much better and the ankle looks a lot better, too. I did get housework done in the morning in prep for me returning to work tomorrow. Still enjoying nice temps but supposed to warm up tomorrow.
Car being serviced today.
Glad the event went well and that you no longer have that stress in your life.

The big potato n chili dinner is over with. Things went pretty well. It's nice not to be stresing over it, anymore, tho! Having the windows open sounds nice. We went to a big flea market yesterday, which is as hot as going thru the barns at the fairgrounds. Flea markets are better during the spring or fall. Right now I'm just trying to get caught up on the laundry. Seems like there's a lot. Guess I didn't get much else done this week.

Ran errands yesterday---got soaked when I came out of the grocery store---not sure if the chill or what I ate for lunch, but I was sick last night---fixed Dh some dinner and then I hit the couch for the rest of the evening.
Hope that event runs smoothly.
Weather has turned nice---front door is open and the ac is off---Hope I feel well enough to enjoy it.

I'm sorry you're having to go through the extra stresses right now.

I know all about being the dog sitter, as I get appointed that position for our DS at times. I'm sure he really appreciated you taking care of them for him.

Tomorrow is the big day. We've done all our shopping; cooked all the meat ahead of time. Tomorrow we assemble it in all the slow-cookers and do everything else. It's not so much a party, but really a community dinner for 78 pp. (Sorry for my vague description before.) Thus my reason for being anxious. I'm not used to being the one in charge. Cooking isn't a problem. I just don't like being the one in front of others. Ack.
