This message came through from Coach Jen yesterday. It may interest a lot of you.

Hi everyone!

Our staff has collected all of our limited mobility and seated exercise workouts into one comprehensive lifestyle center that is now live on the site. You’ll find the Limited Mobility Lifestyle Center listed with all lifestyle centers (note that it’s not yet in the dropdown navigation, but will be added there soon).

le_center_detail.asp?id=19

Hopefully you'll find this info helpful when directing members to resources on the site.

Thanks!

Coach Jen

From Coach Nicole Nichols:

Last week we announced the addition of "SparkPeople Funnies" with a hint that more changes to the site would be coming soon. Today, I am very happy to announce that on Wednesday, Feb. 15, we'll be unveiling some upgrades to SparkPeople's newsletters! These changes affect our daily newsletter, which many of you subscribe to. In an effort to optimize the newsletters we send out and reduce the amount of email members receive, here's a rundown of what's coming:

Newsletters That Will Be Discontinued
Beginning Wednesday, we will discontinue the following daily newsletters.

Food Showdown. Instead of sending it in a daily email, we're giving Food Showdown a new home on dailySpark.com each weekend, and we'll also feature the Food Showdown in The Weekly Spark (subscribe here).

Family Health and Wellness. You can continue to find great family and kids content on dailySpark.com (subscribe to the dailySpark digest here) and in our Healthy Kids and Families Lifestyle Center.

Healthy Reflections (Quote of the Day). But don't worry. While this will no longer be a stand-alone newsletter, the Quote of the Day will be incorporated into our Best of SparkPeople daily newsletter (subscribe here).

Newsletters Getting a Facelift

Best of SparkPeople (daily). We're expanding this newsletter to include a daily feature, a Motivational Quote of the Day, SparkPeople Funnies, and top blog posts from dailySpark.com bloggers and members!

Recipe of the Day. This title has been totally redesigned to feature our best recipes and Chef Meg's cooking videos along with cooking tips and food blogs.

Exercise of the Day. We're redesigned our fitness email to feature exercises and Coach Nicole's workout videos, plus member fitness tips, a daily workout song to get you moving and more!

Remember that you can still earn SparkPoints for reading email newsletters—and the stories within them. It's a great way to keep your goals in mind each day and get more insightful tips for your health journey. To edit your email subscription settings any time, go to your Start page (under the My Trackers tab) and then click on Account/Email Preferences near the top left of the page.

We can't wait to hear what you think about our new, revamped email newsletters that start this Wednesday!

Hi everyone

This is just a friendly reminder to please not pass along "chain" type SparkMails or comments on your SparkPage. There's one going around right now about being a beautiful person and passing it along to 3 other people you know. It's nice in theory, but can easily get out of hand.

I'd ask that you spread the word to prevent things like this from continuing.

Thanks!

Coach Jen

'The SparkPeople Cookbook' is an Amazon Best Seller--Let's Keep Spreading the Spark!
Wednesday, September 21, 2011

WooHoo!
We sent an email this morning announcing "The SparkPeople Cookbook," which will be available Oct. 4. We're absolutely thrilled with the support you've shown. In fact, you've, once again, blown us away, SparkPeople members!

The cookbook is currently #52 on Amazon (out of ALL books!), the #1 book in the low-fat "diet" section and #10 in all diet cookbooks. We want to keep that momentum going and break into the top 100--and even higher--today. If you haven't yet purchased a copy, this is the time to do it!

Here is our SparkPeople affiliate link to buy the cookbook on Amazon:

www.amazon.com/Sparkpeople-Cookbook-Love
-Your-Weight/dp/1401931324/ref=sr_1_2?
s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311778069&sr=1-2&
tag=babyfitcom-20

Did you miss the email that SparkGuy sent this morning to tell you all about the cookbook?
If so, here it is again. Please share that email if you have it, and this blog post, too.

SparkGuy News: 'The SparkPeople Cookbook' Is Almost Here!

WooHoo! What's my reason to shout it today? The SparkPeople Cookbook: Love Your Food, Lose the Weight is almost here! Written by our own healthy cooking expert Chef Meg Galvin with SparkRecipes editor Stepfanie Romine, this cookbook proves that eating for health and weight loss can be delicious and satisfying. You don't have to give up delicious satisfying foods when you're watching your weight. You can eat to lose weight but still absolutely love your food!

Just as I've heard from so many of you that my book, "The Spark," sits on your bedside table and serves as a tangible reminder of your commitment to a healthy lifestyle, I hope that "The SparkPeople Cookbook" will take a similar place of honor in your kitchen. This is a book you'll return to time and again, whether you need a quick weeknight meal, inspiration for your annual neighborhood potluck, or a cupcake recipe for your son's birthday. (Psst: here's a sneak peek recipe from the cookbook that's a "healthy" kid-friendly cupcake that grownups also love!)
recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.as
p?recipe=1009209

The book is chock-full of hundreds of recipes and meal ideas, dozens more variations, plenty of lists and sidebars with quick tips, substitutions and "Slim It Down" options. Plus practical, easy tips throughout to make healthy cooking quicker and easier, like no-cook breakfasts, a dozen slow-cooker recipes, tips for turning leftovers into meals, five-minute pasta and salad ideas, and so much more. With so many variations, options, ideas, and inspiration, this cookbook will become your constant kitchen companion!

Like the site that inspired it, this cookbook is intended to guide you, step by step and goal by goal, to creating a healthier you. We don't expect you to become a gourmet healthy chef overnight. Instead, we'll give you tips to learn at your own pace and suggest ways to improve your diet by cooking one meal at a time. The SparkPeople Cookbook shows that healthy eating can be simple and fun, and, best of all, delicious!

So why write a cookbook when you can access SparkRecipes.com for free? The SparkPeople Cookbook distills the best of SparkPeople.com and SparkRecipes.com into one book. And, it works perfectly with the online SparkPeople program-the nutrition information from all the recipes is even loaded into the nutrition tracker so that you can easily track what you cook! But it's much more than just delicious recipes! Inside you'll get:

• 150 meal ideas and recipes that take 30 minutes or less to prepare, plus dozens of other, more elaborate meals for days when you have more time to cook

• Makeovers of popular member-submitted recipes

• Quick and tasty "Make It a Meal" feature that suggests easy ways to add sides that will turn every main dish into a well-balanced meal, complete with calorie and nutrition information!

• Success Stories (including follow-ups from The Spark) that show how members cooked their way to weight loss!

• Nutrition and healthy kitchen chapters that give you a quick, easy but comprehensive crash course on how to create nutritionally balanced meals for you and your family

• Results from the SparkPeople "Ditch the Diet" Taste Test, which proves that you don't have to eat boring and tasteless food to lose weight

• Two weeks of meal plans-with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks-all between 1,400-1,600 calories per day

• And much, much more-almost 500 pages with 100 beautiful color photographs!

Try these recipes from the book!

• Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken. There's a reason why this is the No. 1 recipe among SparkPeople members. It's easy to make with infinite variations, and it's full of hunger-busting fiber and protein. Chef Meg's made-over version slashed the salt and added a serving of vegetables in every portion. Only 165 calories and 2.5 g fat per serving! (Try the new recipe tonight!) recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?
recipe=871817

• Three Cheese Macaroni. So rich and creamy (yet easy!) you'll say, "Blue box? What blue box?" 2/3 the fat and half the calories of the original-only 260 calories and 8 grams of fat for a heaping cup! (Get a sneak peek at the recipe here: recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?
recipe=892784)

• Tilapia with Roasted Tomatoes and Lemon. Fish that's easy to cook, impressive enough for company-and only 105 calories and 2 g fat a serving? Yes! And it's ready in just 30 minutes!

• Dark Chocolate Cake. Let's just call this decadent-and-healthier cake our dark little secret. It has half the calories (228), plus twice the protein (8 g) and fiber (4 g) than a typical slice of cake!

Pre-order your copy today (www.sparkpeople.com/cookbook)to get 500 SparkPoints plus FREE bonus recipe cards and kitchen chart pack available only to those who buy the book. Please encourage your family, friends (and SparkFriends) to purchase it, too!

Get your copy-and use it. Keep it on display in your kitchen, so you'll constantly be reminded of the importance of healthy cooking! This is one of the most important ways you can help us Spread the Spark. The site you know and love will continue to be 100% free, but we think this cookbook will help you take your program to a new level. So ditch the diet and lose weight-while eating food you love!

SparkCheers,
Chris "SparkGuy" Downie

Hi Everyone!

Recently we've had a number of issues with members posting copyrighted information- primarily in their blogs. The original authors have been contacting us, asking that their work be removed, or properly cited, or in some instances they want to be paid for the fact that someone else is using it.

I'm asking that you pass along this reminder to your teams:

If you are going to post something on the boards or in your blog that someone else has written, you need to credit the source. Our policy is that you can post a few sentences and then you need to link to the source so that people can read the rest of it. You should not be posting an entire article, for instance, and if you are going to post something you always need to cite it.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and for spreading the word about this to your teams!!

Coach Jen

This also includes copyrighted art, cartoons, photos, etc, they cannot be used in blogs either. Notice that Google images now gives copyright status warning on a lot of images.

Save the Date: Show Your Spark Book Club Weekend!
Wednesday, December 02, 2009

One of the biggest and most important"Show Your Spark" Weekends is coming this January 22nd- 24th, 2010. This is your chance to show others that you're part of a worldwide movement in fitness, nutrition and healthy living!

As many of you know, one of the biggest reasons that SparkPeople is free is because our members do such an amazing job of Spreading the Spark! This allows us to keep our costs low and keep resources focused on making the site better for you and your friends. That's why we encourage you to tell others about SparkPeople. Show Your Spark Weekend is an easy way to get the word out and find even more SparkFriends to share your journey.

So, why is this one of the most important Show You Spark Weekends – because we are trying to get on the New York Times Bestsellers List and you can help! We are holding a Show Your Spark Book Club Weekend as well as a contest to have Chris "SparkGuy" Downie call into your local book club!

We are currently developing a bonus book site that will hold all the details needed to host your very own book club that weekend, but we wanted to provide a "Save the Date" post so people can begin to plan ahead! More details will be posted soon, but below are details on the contest.

SparkPeople will hold a STS Book Club Weekend January 22nd-24th, 2010

SparkRallies posted for this weekend only will be entered into a drawing to have Chris “SparkGuy” Downie call into their book club meeting or SparkRally

For more Spread the Spark ideas, visit this page. And to Show Your Spark every day of the year, check out our branded products and apparel atSparkPeopleStore.com. We hope that we can count on you to Show Your Spark this January 22nd- 24th, 2010. As always, thank YOU for making SparkPeople such a positive place!

from Coach Nicole

Hi everyone!
We thought you'd be interested in these two new features!

Reset SparkPoints on Articles You've Read

Some of our "super SparkPoints earners" (you know who you are!) have been running out of articles to earn SparkPoints for lately. We hear you! So, in an effort to let our loyal members continue to earn their daily allotment of SparkPoints for reading articles, you can now reset the articles you’ve read more than 6 months ago—so that you can earn Points by rereading them! To reset your article SparkPoints:

Click on the Account/Email Preferences link on your Start page (under the My Tools tab). Scroll down to the section titled "Reset Articles" and click the "Reset Articles" button and voila! You can now read the articles again and get more Points. Resetting your articles will keep the SparkPoints you earn for previously reading articles. You will lose the next to any articles in the Resource Center that have been reset.

PLEASE NOTE that this will only allow you to re-read articles you read more than 6 months ago; articles you have read less than six months ago will not be reset. Also noteworthy, you must be a member of SparkPeople for at least 6 months for the Reset Articles section to show up on your account preferences page.

New Stay On Track Calendar
We've also added a monthly Stay On Track Calendar to the site, which gives you an easy-to-read, monthly view of what's coming up in your program (scheduled workouts and appointments) and what you've tracked (food, workouts, notes and earned SparkPoints) each day. This calendar is interactive and printable, too!. To see your Stay on Track Calendar, go to the Reports section (under the "My Tools" tab). Scroll down to the "Weight and Other Reports" section to find your Stay on Track Calendar.

We hope you enjoy these new SparkPeople features!

SparkPeople is on a New MISSION
World Class Athletes are Joining SparkPeople!
-- By Chris
SparkPeople Sponsors help keep the site free!
SparkPeople is very excited to announce a new partnership with MISSION Skincare™, an Athlete-Engineered skincare company co-founded by top athletes, including Mia Hamm, Serena Williams, Amanda Beard, Sergio Garcia, and Steve Nash. Their products are designed for everyday use by anyone with an active lifestyle. Together, we're on a MISSION to Spark even more people to reach their goals—and offer some great opportunities to all of our SparkPeople members along the way.

I’m very excited about the partnership between SparkPeople and MISSION Skincare! Josh Shaw, the founder of MISSION Skincare, is a longtime SparkPeople member who used SparkPeople to lose 40 pounds after his appearance on NBC's The Apprentice in 2005.

Josh and his team have quickly built MISSION Skincare into a great company with revolutionary and affordable skincare products ranging from sunscreens and lip balms to anti-friction and foot creams. Their athlete partners are very involved in the product development and marketing, and together, they are not only creating breakthrough products, but they are also helping to support their various chariable foundations. MISSION Skincare donates a percentage of its profits to the athletes' foundations.

We hope that many of these athletes will join and support SparkPeople.com! In fact, we are pleased that Mia Hamm and Charlie Engle have joined us as the first two members of the MISSION Skincare SparkTeam, and we look forward to others joining in the coming weeks. You probably already know and respect Mia, and we're sure that you'll be inspired by Charlie's 111-day run (42 miles per day!) across the Sahara Desert to raise money for H20 Africa.

The SparkPeople/MISSION Skincare partnership will benefit new and existing SparkPeople members, too! As a result, SparkPeople members will:
Receive ongoing discounts on MISSION Skincare's revolutionary products
Have the opportunity to interact with some of the world’s top athletes
Be able to enter fun contests and read special features on our healthy lifestyle blog, dailySpark.com
Plus, we'll be able to Spread the Spark to millions more people! You can take advantage of this partnership right now! Here's how.
Visit www.MissionSkincare.com RIGHT NOW to take advantage of a special offer extended to ALL SparkPeople members: 15% OFF your purchase when you use the promotional code Spark15 at checkout. Please use this promotional discount code as often as you'd like!

Join the MISSION Skincare SparkTeam for a chance to “meet” and interact with MISSION Skincare athletes like Mia and Charlie--and more to come in the future! Members of this Team will also be the first to know about special offers and contests, courtesy of MISSION Skincare.
With summer finally here, now is a great time to try MISSION Skincare's sunscreen products to make sure your skin gets the protection it needs from harmful rays. They are paraben-free, loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, manufactured in the USA and animal cruelty-free. Here are some of our favorite products:
Fast-Drying Sunscreen SPF 30+ Spray
Total Protection SPF Face Kit, featuring their Anti-Sting SPF Facestick and Hydrating SPF 20 Lip Protector

MISSION Lip Balmers, which were handed out to attendees of the first-ever SparkPeople Convention. Members raved about them!
“I definitely loved mine. It applied smoothly and kept my lips soft. I have very dry lips and tend to wear lipstick. But when I work out, lipstick isn't practical. MISSION lip balmers are!"

“Love them, especially the pomegranate flavor! I like the fact that there is sunscreen in them and most importantly, they leave my lips feeling smooth and protected.”

“I keep one in my desk at work and use it almost every day. They go on really smooth and don't feel greasy or sticky.”

New Spark IM Update!

Hi Everyone!

A few weeks ago I let you know about the new Instant Messaging feature that was coming. It launched today!

The ability to chat in real-time, like instant messaging allows, has been a longstanding request from our members. We think this feature will help you better connect with other members so you can get more help and support on your healthy lifestyle journey.

You can access our IM service by looking at the lower right corner of your browser when you are logged in to SparkPeople. This feature is provided by a third party company called Meebo. Please note that IM only shows up if you have a SparkPage (because you have to have SparkFriends in order to chat). You can IM only with members who are your mutual friends, meaning you each have added one another as a friend. You can click here to use our Mutual Friend Finder tool.

Each time you log in to SparkPeople, Meebo will automatically log you in as "available" for chat. However, you can sign yourself offline by opening your friends list window, clicking on your username at the top and changing your "available" status to "sign me offline." If you do NOT want IM to always turn on when you sign in to SparkPeople, you can log yourself out permanently by changing your Community preferences for IM here: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/preferen
ce_community.asp

This IM feature is a "beta" or test version, which means we're testing it on the site for now; we're curious to see what our SparkPeople members think of it and how well it works. Finally, please keep in mind that our Community Guidelines also apply to all IM communications.

If you have any questions or problems, please post them in our Site/Technical Help Forum .

Thanks!

Coach Jen

New and Improved Design on SparkPages
New and Improved Design on SparkPages
Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Hi, everyone!

We wanted to let you know about a new and improved SparkPage design that we launched today. SparkPages hold so much information that we wanted to make it easier to navigate a person's SparkPage and find exactly what you're looking for. The overall design is the same, but we've cleaned up the look of SparkPages and added some great new functionality, too. Here are some of the highlights of this redesign:

1. Tabs across the top of each Page, which allow you to easily view a member's photos, friend feed, blog posts, and more. For example, if you're looking at someone's photos, you can quickly get to their SparkTeams, too.

2. NEW Photo Pagination. When viewing a photo in someone's gallery, you'll now see links below it that say "Previous Image" and "Next Image" that allow you to scroll through the photos as if viewing them in a slideshow.

3. NEW Comments on Photos. Members can now comment directly on each other's photos. When someone comments on your photo, you will receive an email letting you know.

4. NEW Awards Page. Everyone has a tab at the top of their page called "Awards." This is where you'll find a member's SparkGoodies, SparkStreaks and SparkPoints trophies. We plan to add more options for special icons and awards to this section soon.

5. More SparkFavorites. You'll find favorites under the "More" tab at the top of each Page. Now, your Favorites section includes SparkRecipes you're rated and saved as favorites in addition to your favorite articles, message boards and shared recipes.

6. NEW Alert on Updated Intros. To clean up the page, we've shortened the amount of introductory text that shows, but you can still type as much as you'd like. Visitors can click on the "Read More" link to see your entire introduction. If you have updated your introductory text within the past 30 days, a note will show up there, letting visitors to your page know that they should "Read More" to see what's new.

At first glance, SparkPages look pretty much the same as before, but there are lots of improvements that came with this new design. We realize that our members take great ownership of their SparkPages, and we hope you'll discover that these changes give you even more control and functionality than before. Like any change, it might take some time getting used to, but we hope that you'll love the new design as much as we do!

Spread the Spark Summer Challenge

Thursday, May 14, 2009

SparkPeople is kicking off summer with our Spread the Spark Summer Challenge and it all kicks off with the official "Show Your Spark" Weekend, Friday, June 26, 2009, to Sunday, June 28, 2009. During this weekend, SparkPeople members across the globe will wear their SparkPeople Gear and/or gather at SparkRallies . (Visit your local SparkTeam page to help plan or RSVP to attend a local SparkRally in your area!) Even if you don't attend a Rally, you can still wear your gear wherever you go--and be on the lookout for other SparkPeople members doing the same!

We want everyone wearing SparkPeople gear that weekend to take photos of themselves and their SparkFriends to share with us. By wearing your gear, taking photos, and sharing your pictures with us, you could win fun SparkPeople prizes and even an iPod touch in our Show Your Spark Giveaway. Here's how.

1. Wear your SparkPeople gear the weekend of June 26, 2009. (If you do not have SparkPeople gear, you can purchase it at our SparkPeople Store .)

2. Start or sign up to attend a SparkRally near you. Don't forget to remind other members to wear their SparkPeople gear to the Rally, too.

3. Join the Spread The Spark Summer Challenge SparkTeam. Here, members can post fun and healthy summer activities, share information about SparkRallies, and post their photos all summer long.

4. Take photos of yourself and your friends at SparkRallies and events that weekend!

5. Upload your photos to the Team page so others can see how much fun you had. To upload a photo to the Team page, click on the red "Photos" tab (above the Team message boards) and follow the instructions there. Or add your photo(s) to your SparkPage or SparkPeople blog to share with your friends! Our staff will look at all of your photos and may feature your photos or story in future articles, emails or dailySpark posts!

6. Win prizes in our giveaway! To show our appreciation, and to encourage everyone to participate in the official Show Your Spark Weekend, we'll be giving away SparkPeople prizes and even an iPod touch! We will periodically select winners at random, from all members who join the Team and share their photos. We will post the winners in the Spread the Spark Summer Challenge Team and announce the iPod touch winner on July 10, 2009.

3:16 PM Enhancements to our Reports tab
Enhancements to our Reports tab - including new reports!
Thursday, April 09, 2009

Hi everyone

We're happy to announce the launch of a number of enhancements to our reports. These can all be accessed by going to the My Tools tab and then selecting Reports.

This new page puts all our reports in one place and also features reformatted versions of all our reports. The new formatting includes includes making it easier to set date ranges. For example you used to just be able to say "Show me the past 2 months," you could now say "show November 2008 through January 2009."

The biggest enhancement though is adding new reports, including:

* Two different reports showing calories eaten verses calories burned. One report shows a day at a time, and the other shows progress over time. Please note the disclaimers on these reports noting that calories burned can sometimes be rough estimates.
* Daily calorie breakdown report, showing which foods contributed the most calories
* A chart showing total SparkPoints by month
* Report of members who you referred to join SparkPeople
* Several new ways to view your fitness progress

These enhancements have been requested for some time by our members so we are very happy to make them available! Please leave a comment here if you have any questions.

Announcing a new way to Spread the Spark - Facebook Connect
Wednesday, April 08, 2009

Hi everyone,

I'm really excited to announce that you can connect your SparkPeople account to your Facebook account to share your updates from SparkPeople with your Facebook friends. I think this is a great new way to Spread the Spark and help many more people reach their goals! However, if you don't have (and don't want) a Facebook account, we completely understand. (There are many other ways you can still Spread the Spark.)

As a SparkPeople member with a Facebook account, you can choose to automatically feed certain SparkPeople activities, such as status updates, blog posts, and more, to your Facebook account. You can do this by using Facebook Connect to link your SparkPeople account to your Facebook account.

To be honest, the most valuable way you can Spread the Spark to others with Facebook Connect is by updating your current status on SparkPeople, which will appear prominently on Facebook.

For example, I like making status updates on SparkPeople like, "I just added 50 fitness minutes to SparkPeople!" or "Two SparkPeople members were just featured in USA Today!" Each time I update my status here, it automatically updates on Facebook.com, too (thanks to Facebook Connect). This is a fun way to motivate my friends on Facebook to join me at SparkPeople to get healthy and reach their goals.

Thanks a bunch to anyone who chooses to help Spread the Spark by enabling Facebook Connect. We appreciate your support! I hope that you'll help some people you know by doing so, too. This is one of those things that if enough people decide to do it, it could make a real difference in our mission to Spark millions of People to live healthier lives!

SparkCheers!

1 Billion SparkPoints Earned!
Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Congratulations! As of about 11:30 a.m. EST, we've racked up more than 1 billion SparkPoints!

By tracking food, reading stories, posting on the Message Boards and just being active on the site over the last five years or so, each and every SparkPeople member has worked hard to earn those 1 billion Points.

This milestone is less about the Points than the steps we took to get there. We tracked our food and cardio, forged friendships in Teams, and shared our success on the Message Boards. Not about competition, this milestone proves how powerful we can be if we work together to reach our goals.

To earn those 1 billion Points, we:

Burned more than 5.6 billion calories!

Lost more than 7.2 million pounds!

Drank more than 162 million cups of water. (That's more than 40.500 tons of water!)

We all deserve a pat on the back! What will you do today to earn your SparkPoints?

SparkPeople Application for iPhone and iPod touch
Thursday, March 05, 2009

SparkPeople is proud to announce that we now have a FREE application available that runs on iPhone and iPod touch devices! If you own an iPhone or iPod touch, then you can download SparkPeople's application, the iPhone Food & Fitness Tracker, to stay on track when you're on the go!

For iPhone & iPod touch Owners
Our first application has the basics—our food tracker plus "QuickTrack" for fitness and water consumption—but we will be adding many more features soon. Best of all, the application automatically synchronizes with your SparkPeople.com account. You can download our application from iTunes for your iPhone or iPod touch. To learn more about our application (and get a link to download it for free),

If You Don't Have an iPhone
Even if you don't have an iPhone or iPod touch, we bet you know somebody who does! We'd love for you to help us spread the word to that iPhone and iPod touch users can use their device in conjunction with SparkPeople! And be sure to tell your friends what you like about SparkPeople. Finally, if you have another type of cell phone that can browse the Internet, you can use a mobile version of our site.

We hope our iPhone and iPod touch users will enjoy using this application, and that our helpful and supportive members will continue to Spread the Spark to tell even more people about SparkPeople—and our free iPhone application, too!

Hello Team Leaders!

We have some new Team features launching next week that I wanted to give you a heads up about.

We're redesigning the main Team page a little, adding a "tabbed" section in the middle of the page. This tab will contain 4 sections: Team Announcements, Team Photos, Team Links and the first page will be the "new" entries from the other sections.

Team Announcements can only be made by Team leaders, but any Team member will be able to upload photos and post helpful links (both inside and outside of SP) for the Team.

This will all make more sense when you can see the new features in action, but I wanted to let you know that it's coming. We hope you enjoy it!

Thanks!

Coach Jen

New Feature: Nutrition Feedback offers Specific Tips to Reach Your Goals!

Hi everyone-

We're excited to tell you about a great new feature on SparkPeople's Nutrition Tracker. It's called Nutrition Feedback. Basically, when you're done tracking your food for the day, you can now see a special Nutrition Feedback page that shows you which nutrition goals you met, went under and went over. If you go over or under on a nutrient, you'll get a tip (which rotates so you'll always get new information over time) to help you get back into your goal range. Currently, the Nutrition Feedback page features tips and information on 15 of the most commonly tracked nutrients, but we hope to add more over time.

Please check out this Tutorial Video, which shows you exactly how to use this brand new feature and get even more out of your Nutrition Tracker.

To see the video, click here: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on_articles.asp?id=1278

We hope you enjoy using your Nutrition Feedback page, and that it will help you learn more about your diet and how to reach your goals.

Celebrate National Wear Red Day
By: Nancy Howard : 2/4/2009 5:05:09 PM : 62 comments

This Friday, February 6, marks the National Wear Red Day, when everyone across the country is asked to wear red in support of raising awareness of the number one killer of American women: heart disease. Held the first Friday in February since 2002, the Wear Red Day campaign has been gaining momentum and helping educate women on cardiovascular disease awareness.

Each year, more than 500,000, or roughly 1 in 4 women, or one woman every minute, will succumb to heart disease. And of that number, more than half will die from heart attacks. While heart disease afflicts six times the number of women diagnosed every year with breast cancer, surveys have shown that women fear breast cancer far more so than heart disease. This is one reason why the National Wear Red Day is paramount if we want to change the path on which we, as women, are headed. Sadly, many times a woman’s first experience with heart disease is often her last as many women tend to ignore the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and/or heart disease until it is too late.

So what can do in order to bring this extremely important issue to the forefront of your own community?

First of all, please visit The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) website for more information on their The Heart Truth campaign. This is one of many organizations sponsoring events not just on Friday, but for the entire month of February, to help better educate not only women, but everyone, as to the importance in raising awareness of this often deadly but very treatable disease.

Consider becoming The Heart Truth coordinator for your company by asking your fellow employees to wear red this Friday. Nothing sends a more impacting and powerful message then to walk in an office with all the employees wearing a common color. And if you can, take time to discuss the importance for all women to talk with their health care providers on the importance regarding their heart health, especially if these women have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, or diabetes.

Consider bringing The Heart Truth Campaign to your women’s groups. Book clubs, garden clubs, and church groups all share a common bond, and when we share the need to keep healthy and the need to follow up with our doctors, we just may save a friend’s life.

Teachers may want to share with their students the risk factors for heart disease by discussing with them the importance of not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, getting in some good exercise every day, and following a healthy, nutritious diet.
Education, by far is one of the most important steps we can take to turn the tide on this disease. By educating one person, and then another, and then another, it is only a matter of time for us to push heart disease out of the number one slot so that we can all see our grandmothers, mothers, daughters, granddaughters, aunts, nieces, friends, and yes, even ourselves, live well into the golden years without the threat of heart disease looming over our heads.

How do you plan on celebrating National Wear Red Day this Friday? Would you consider leading a campaign for your workplace, school, or woman’s groups?
